I took my grandson to see Chet in 1999. I asked Chet what advice he would give this young guitar player. He said “Do something else for a living and play guitar for fun “. He’s now a doctor and plays for fun. Thanks Chet for your words of wisdom for my grandson.

Just look how jubilant and happy Tommy is. This is what we should all strive for. Not a hint of pretension or ego, just joy and respect of the moment. This is why he captivates me, even more so than his guitar playing, he's a good soul. You don't see to many reach his age and keep that spirit.

My father introduced me to Chet's music early in my life. He was a jazz guitarist and began playing at age 4. He left me long ago but instilled in me the importance of respecting one's elders. I pay homage to Chet's work ethic . Very few are aware that Chet battled cancer for the last 25 years of his life. Don't know of a single instance of him cancelling an appearance. Also notable is Chet's efforts to introduce Tommy Emmanuel to his fans. We honor Chet and those he honored.

At 5:27 Lenny Breau gets mentioned...
The idea that Atkins, Breau, and Emmanuel are in the same place at the same time, even if it only happened once, stuns me.
I am also stunned by their ability to make "Jingle Bells" sound hip, and because of that, when they follow with "Waltzing Matilda," I had to listen to it a couple of times before I realized that they hadn't put a really cool bridge to "Jolly Old St. Nicholas."
    (Addendum, a year later:)
It dawns on me that the only multi-generational/"swimming through the same gene pool" relationship that I can think of, similar to this one, is the one between...
    Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams.

Unbelievable! When I was 25 my neighbor loaned me her nylon string. I accidentally hit it on a chair and put a dent in it. My GF at the time said she new a bloke in the mornington peninsula. I was totally dubious. We went there and in his workshop were posters of Clapton and Emmanuel, signed "Thanks". Its amazing the world of guitars. Two of my heroes here. I never knew they played together!

Indeed. I still can't get over how happy legends are when they made THE legend. i.e If you watch the Mark Knopfekr I'll See You In My Dreams with Chet he's just as smitten as Tommy is in this!
