The Lethal Weapon series of movies grows on as you go along... By the time you finish the 4th, I swear you feel like part of the family!!! Gotta watch all four!! :D
100%
@@dougneal7615 there's already a lethal weapon 5,6 and now 7. Danny Devito stars.
You managed to explain what I've been thinking for all these years 😃 Final word in this series was literally "family" hahahaha
@@billhicks6449 true 😆
Going to be a 5th apparently directed by Mel
Fun fact about Lethal Weapon all the main characters in all four movies are the same actors. From Murtaw's wife and kids to the Captain.
That’s way it’s a bit sad to watch the end credits for the 4th one with all those photos and stuff. It feels they really were a family.
@@lexxnewton Please, tell us more spoilers.
@@jscan4442 what spoiler did i tell you? I only said that during the credits you'll see photos from the movie shooting.
No other movie series makes you feel like family than the Lethal Weapon movies. Murtaugh's family feels like my own second family.
Lethal Weapon is from 1987, in 1989 lethal weapon 2 was released.
I’ll always be a Lethal Weapon fan over Die Hard, although Bruce and Mel are both legends still today.
The last boyscout was better than both of them tho... imo
Mel brings 100% to everything he does. Bruce has been phoning it in since 2000. No comparison.
They’re an interesting contrast given their similarities.
I think Die Hard has better highs (1 & 3 might be better than any LW movie with the possible exception of 2), but LW is the more consistent franchise, with all 4 being solid movies (or better), while Die Hard some stinkers mixed in.
I disagree, I prefer Die Hard, but I still love both movies.
@@glenmcdonald375 I highly disagree.
11:56 Actually, if you look back at the scene, Martin really did pull the trigger. But Roger managed to stop the hammer from firing the bullet on his gun. Hence why he cried "Ow" in pain when his hand went to stop Riggs from offing himself.
Not just a test. Roger actually saw how serious Martin was and then he realized that while he was at a whole different level, Roger also decided to pay more attention to that level of attitude he was getting from his partner.
Huh? I haven't seen the movie in a while, but I remember it being pretty obvious. Didn't he get the web of skin between his thumb and forefinger caught under tha hammer?
@@ashscott6068 Yep, that's what happened. Always looked pretty obvious to me, too. If he hadn't done that, Riggs would've just redecorated the ceiling in an interesting new colour called "Hint Of Brain."
Rigs is like a samurai. Doesn't care if he lives or dies. Willing to go out trying to save the daughter. That's the only reason why their plan worked. And that's why the movies called lethal weapon. If Riggs were not suicidal he wouldn't have had the balls to do what they did:)
@AB haha loaded weapon is the parody film with Samuel L Jackson;)
“I’m gettin too old for this sh*t “ I think this is the first movie I heard that line
For gen x kids there is no debate. Lethal weapon and die hard and Hungryman Pilgrim Platters are what us latchkey kids had while our divorced boomer parents were working the holiday shift.
I loooooooove your reactions! Lethal Weapon is such a great franchise! Glover & Gibson are perfect together. Kinda reminds me of Beverly Hills Cop where Eddie Murphy is the crazy, tough, street-wise Detroit cop & the Beverly Hills police he's with are straight shooters. Always such a great story line. You'd love all 4 Lethal Weapons.
Glover, Gibson, and the whole cast. Great chemistry all around.
Roger's 'wife' is a famous singer. Darlene Love. She sang 60s classics like 'He's a Rebel'. You can also see her singing with Elvis Presley in his 1968 'comeback' special when he performs his gospel medley.
Here's a pretty cool behind the scenes fun fact:
You know the gun that Riggs uses is the Beretta M9 right? Not only that, but John McClane also uses that same gun in Die Hard.
Icing on the cake for that fun fact: That's not just the same type of gun. That IS the same gun that was used by both actors for the filming of the two movies.
you mean they used the exact same weapon for both movies? that's incredible! I never knew that, brother
@@nightmaster5593 Yeah, Its literally the exact same "Prop" very famous item.
@@christianjonesjones wow! that's amazing! I had no idea!
And even more interesting fact is that Willis was supposed to be in Lethal Weapon and Gibson was supposed to be in Die Hard:
IMDb:
Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis were considered for each other's roles in Lethal Weapon (1987) and Die Hard (1988), and both movies were produced by Joel Silver, with music by Michael Kamen. Willis was offered the role of Martin Riggs, but turned it down, and a year later he did Die Hard (1988). Gibson was considered to play John McClane, along with his co-stars from The Expendables 3 (2014), Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but they all turned it down. Coincidently, the script for Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) was briefly considered to be filmed as a Lethal Weapon sequel.
Also, Riggs was supposed to die at the end of the first Lethal Weapon
I heard that it was the Lethal Weapon 2 gun that was the same as Die Hard. The Lethal Weapon 1 gun was a Beretta 92 and the LW2 gun was a 92FS. The trigger guard is different.
Devin, Leathal Weapon was released at the Box office in 1987 - Leathal Weapon 2 released in 1989.
One of THE best films of this kind, phenomenal all around from script, performances, music, story 10/10.
This is the best one of the four films. A bit of trivia: the fight scene between Riggs and Joshua took several days to film. Also, the fight scene incorporated three styles of martial arts-Capoeira, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Jailhouse Rock. Awesome reaction video!
The best Cop Buddy Franchise EVER! React to all!
I literally went to see everyone of these at the theater when they came out.👌👏 Good reaction
I had a crush on the older daughter in all the lethal weapon movies. The Lethal Weapon movies are hilarious.
Lol@AB shit i forgot that movie even existed
I did tons of obsessive martial arts training when I was young, so I always wanted to see the goodguy badass and the badguy badass in action movies settle things mano a mano, so you cannot imagine how happy I was when, instead of hauling Joshua off to jail, Murtaugh and the other cops backed off and let Riggs and Joshua go at it. It's only in the movies, but in the movies, good vs. evil is more satisfying when it's distilled down to the symbolism of trial by combat.
In the novelization, it mentions all the different martial arts styles they both used, including some the narrator doesn't recognize.
Gracie's did choreography for that
I would have to think the definition of what makes a movie a "Christmas movie" is, it has to be about Christmas as an important part of the movie. Die Hard barely meets this criteria because the whole premise of the movie was John McClane flying out to California to be with his wife and kids for Christmas when things go bad. Lethal Weapon doesn't meet that criteria. None of the events in the film happened because it was Christmas (Amanda Hunsacker dying, the shipment of heroin, etc). It just happens to take place during the Christmas season, but the season itself isn't integral to the movie.
I saw this in the theater with a family member who fought (and lost his legs) in Viet Nam, and he found Mel Gibson believable for a troubled vet.
I love all four movies in this franchise, but have never seen the t.v. series yet.
The TV series is quite good. They casted well...
One of my all-time favorite movies. Danny Glover and Mel Gibson are one of the best duos in crime fighting movies.
If Christmas is referenced more than 5 times throughout, its definitely a Christmas flick.
Same with Die Hard.
Good job you two.
It doesn't really matter, but think of it this way; if they swapped out the X-Max decorations, songs, etc. for Fourth of July stuff, would it be a Fourth of July movies?
Don't forget Die Hard 2 is a Christmas movie. Its not Christmas until Lorenzo tears up McLane's parking ticket.
@@mudageki needs aliens to be a real 4th of july movie everyone knows that
It’s a movie about loss and how having a place to belong can bring redemption. That’s what Christmas is about. Family.
@@gunkid6368 Yes, that's it.
I grew up with these movies. Watched them like 300 times, not exaggerating .
Best friendship story & adventure.
Danny Glover's acting debut was in Clint Eastwood's Escape from Alcatraz, but he had a REALLY good year in 1985 when he got a small-ish role in Harrison Ford's Witness, a strong supporting role in Silverado (you guys need to check that one out - it's a solid western-action film and one of the few modern westerns to really live up to the old grandiose films of yesteryear), and Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. He was 39 at the time.
Two years later, at the age of 41, he was cast as the over-50 year-old Roger Murtaugh in Lethal Weapon, with Mel Gibson, who was 29 at the time, playing Martin Riggs, presumably around Mel's own age. Glover said that the Murtaugh role changed his life for the better, but also typecast him as someone slightly over the hill.
So in an effort to change that perception, he starred in Predator 2, which showed off how physically fit and capable he still was, even at the age of 44. He's become something of a "working actor" since then, taking whatever gigs come his way, but he's still managed to make those roles stand out through the years. Still, he'll likely be remembered for the Lethal Weapon series, the first two of which were largely anchored by his character. The 3rd and 4th films kind of reduced him - in my opinion - to the comic relief/ brunt of the jokes, and while admittedly fun, they lacked the perfectly-balanced knife-edge of seriousness and comedy that made the first two films such unadulterated classics. Nevertheless, all 4 LW films are worth seeing, and the chemistry between these two characters/ actors never gets old.
It's also a shame Mel turned into a drunkard and went off on a racist rant, but whatever his deeper motivations then or since, he HAS attempted to apologize and do better, and I hope there's no bad blood between these two. Apparently not, if Mel's going to be directing LW5, and Danny's agreed to be in it (personally I would LOVE to see them address the issue somehow). But whether that film happens or not, Glover's contribution to the series was fundamental - it literally wouldn't work without him.
And for many Americans when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's - maybe I'm just talking about myself here, idk - this film series was one of the first that showed an African-American family in a "normal" light. The Murtaughs were middle class, educated, compassionate, family-oriented people, not shuck-and-jive stereotypes of the kind you'd find populating the action films of the 70's, and it showed a different kind of lifestyle for "average" African-Americans than the over-used "ghetto/ urban gangsta" image that populated so much of the media of the 80's and 90's.
Whether Danny Glover deserves direct credit or not, it has to be said that the Lethal Weapon films were subversively ground-breaking in that sense, and likely opened the door for the Denzels, Wesley Snipes, Chris Rocks, Chris Tuckers, and today, the Chadwick Bosemans, etc.
But it cracked me up when you guys were like, "Was he ever young?" Yeah, and Witness might be the youngest he ever looked in a major film, but they cast a 41 year-old man to play a 50 year-old man, so by the time he actually was over 50, he'd been doing "old man Dan" for quite a while. Sorry for all the words, but it cracked me up because it IS hard to imagine a young Danny Glover. Anyhoo, thanks for another great reaction/ review!!
Really? I didnt know that. I lived that movie, but to b honest it was only because o loved clint Eastwood in the movie with the chimp. I was only 10 years old when it came out...
@@glenmcdonald375 Orangutan named Clyde in the movies, Any Which Way But Loose & Any Which Way You Can :) "Right turn, Clyde." I loved those movies. My dad's name was Clyde so they were more special to me because I love Clint Eastwood & so did my dad & because we got to hear his name & laugh every time at the way "Clyde" acted in the movies lol :) There were apparently 3 different orangutans used, 1 in the first movie & 2 in the 2nd to play "Clyde".
@@msfeistybabe oh ya. I was thinking the orangutans name was Clive. Ah well, I was close. It was a very long time ago. And yes, those movies were a fond part of my adolescence. Lol
@@glenmcdonald375 Very close :) Yeah my dad introduced me to Clint Eastwood movies & I've loved him as an actor ever since, and love him as an amazing director as well now!! He will definitely be one of those irreplaceable epic stars that I will shed tears over when he's gone. Hate to even think of that day & just try to watch his movies & enjoy every moment I have with them & remember the moments I shared watching these great movies with my dad as well. Harrison Ford is right up there for me for my top male actors & Mel Gibson too. Those 3 are probably my Top 5 of older actors with Sean Connery, all wonderful men (and to me gorgeous as well lol ;) in their 30s or in their 60s!) and Morgan Freeman is there of course!! I don't know of many actors in their 20-30s now that will be able to follow in their footsteps & still be making amazing movies in their 60s & 70s!!
Lethal Weapon was released in 1987. Die Hard in 1988. Lethal Weapon 2 in 1989.
Now it's imperative that you two watch the remainder of the franchise! I'm praying on it!
Watched this and Part 2 in the theaters. Both, total humdingers. Money well spent. :))
Movies of my childhood. Still great today. Great reaction, glad y’all liked it.
One of the greatest movie series EVER!!
Highly recommend all 4 movies.
This is my absolute favorite Christmas action movie. Especially the directors cut.
Dont forget die hard, cobra and rambo first blood part one all take place during the xmas season. Lol.
Also, I come in peace, la confidential, invasion USA, 1941, gremlins, Batman returns, jingle all the way, rare exports, behind enemy lines, and Cronos
Yep, they're not the traditional yellow bow Christmas movies because they cover the other side of the holidays. The loneliness, sadness, depression, and how crime doesn't stop even during what's supposed to be the happiest season of togetherness of the year. Hmm... maybe we should consider them more Winter/Solstice movies than Christmas movies since they cover the darker, dangerous stories. Kind of a dark mirror thing
Interesting fact: This film shares something with another franchise started by the film’s director Richard Donner (RIP); and it’s the Superman franchise.
Both Superman: The Movie (1978) and Lethal Weapon (1987) were well received by fans and critics alike. Both did great business for Warner Bros. Studios. Both spawned three other movies. Each film tried to bring more humor to each successive sequel. But over time only the first film of each franchise is regarded as the best of the series. And that’s attributed to how good Donner was as a director.
RIP Richard Donner.
Fun fact: the drug dealer in the red shirt that holds Martin Riggs hostage at the Christmas tree lot is actually the father of Anthony Kiedis, singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
"That house under construction." Dude that House is always going to be under construction 😅
it's nice that you found someone for yourself
Yoooo I was just about to go sleep and after your last Christmas movie DIE HARD and now LETHAL WEAPON ima watch your reaction SIR
Whenever i think of Lethal Weapon, Jingle Bell Rock always pops in my head as the movie opens with that song. So i will say (YES) i see this as a Christmas movie even though it doesn't feel like it
Sad part is suicide around the holidays is what makes it feel more Christmassy. Always an uptick when people are alone and everyone else is together.
This time of year when Jingle Bell Rock comes on the radio, I say "Hey, it's the theme to Lethal Weapon!"
It's always felt like a Christmas movie to me. Maybe because Murtaugh's family plays a large part in this. And there's a lot of genuine warmth and chemistry between the main characters.
My brother and I have watched this every Christmas since 1987. Yes we watched many others but for a couple of brothers, this was cake.
The way I consider what makes a Christmas movie is, if you take the theme of Christmas away, does the movie change or stay the same? If the movie stays the same, it's not a Christmas movie. If you took that theme away from this movie, nothing changes, and everything that happened still would've happened regardless of the time of year
And again a great movie reaction from both of you ! Incredibly great to watch you both do it! More of it please !!!🥳👌😎
"A man was shot in the heart holding Egg Nogg"
-officially Christmas movie lol
Really really hoping you continue with the series. Its the buddy cop franchise that all other buddy cop movies will be judged against. Its honestly one of the few series that actually do get better with each installment!
Her daughter definitely has her looks.
You’re witnessing the start of the iconic duo that is Riggs&Murtock’s Brotherhood. Amazing series of films. Ya gotta watch all of them now. I will happy watch along with you. Enjoy and Happy Holidays from the 🇬🇧🎄
Great reaction and love your channel broham. I think this came out in the spring of 1987 if my old memory still works. I remember seeing as a 16 year old and Murtaugh/Danny Glover reminded me of my grandad.
"Didn't he ever look young?" No, I'm pretty sure Danny Glover came out of his mama middle-aged. He was only 41 when he made this, but he was playing a character decade older, and he looked it.
Awesome Movie and Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍👍 Winter Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
thanks devin and crew, love your channel and love the older movies selections,, this is awesome , they dont movies like this anymore ,.,,, pure gold
You will love the sequels! 😁 P.s. This one came in '87, the second in '89 😊
Fun fact mel Gibson was considered for john McLane in die hard and batman in 1989
I like Michael Keaton, but I can 100% see Mel playing that Batman and crushing it and taking a more darker path and changing the history of what Batman is today. Mel Gibson is just that type of actor to take it to a whole new level...... man, i really want to see that
And wolverine
Great reaction, like others have said you’ve got to react to the other lethal weapon movies, they are absolutely classic.
Great reaction again!
As far as Christmas Movies i would have to say 'Scroodged'. Great adaptation of A Christmas Carol and just an allout wonderful movie
Love you're review you two, Lethal Weapon is of my favorites...fun fact: the actress playing as Murtaw's wife is singer Darlene Love....she sang the Christmas "Marshmallow World", Winter Wonderland, and Christmas (Baby please come home)"...its old school songs....back in the 1960"s
Lol...I've never even thought about a debate on what is a Christmas movie. It probably isn't in the stack of movies my mom watches every year but I'd say it was a Christmas movie in mine. Great duo for a movie and reaction
Another great one. Its good to see more duos. Hard to imagine Mel running all through town with those titanium balls weighing him down.
I'll happily refer to Die Hard as a Christmas movie, but Lethal Weapon feels more like a movie that just happens to take place near Christmas. Why? I dunno. During Die Hard ya never really forget that it's Christmas. During Lethal Weapon... ya kinda do for a good deal of the movie. And it doesn't really play much of a role in the story. The events in Die Hard only happen _because_ it's Christmas. The events in Lethal Weapon could've happened in June, and the only difference would've been the lack of Christmas music and decore.
I love these movies! I was wondering who that beautiful lady was!!! WTG Devin, you did good! Mel is the Lethal Weapon, got to love it! A small bit of trivia for you, the guy the (blond) playing the bad dude is Gary Busey, not long after this movie was made he had a motorcycle accident and hit his head on the pavement. He suffered brain damage and really never acted again! Now you have to watch all the Lethal Weapons there are three more! Devin, you really need to react to Braveheart!
Great reaction ❤️watch the next one…..it’s even better.
I really loved you guys reaction, y'all really looked like y'all enjoyed it
I hope you'll watch the other 3
Glad to see your gal with you again, best reactions on RUclips,
Lethal Weapon came out in 1987. Lethal Weapon 2 came out in 1989. There was a MAD Magazine spoof called Lethal Wreckin'! Richard Donner filmed an alternate "happy ending" to Lethal Weapon 2 where Rigg's girlfriend survives and they happily shop for Thanksgiving Dinner.
Oh nice, the other great Christmas movie! You're really starting off December with a bang
This is the best buddy movie i think and it`s a christmas movie for sure^^ 😁😁😁
It`s a lot of fun to watch this. Greetings bro^^
Its debatable which is better: die hard or lethal weapon, but i'd say none of the die hard sequels are all that great while all of the lethal weapon sequels are great 👍
I always liked the humanity in this movie and the whole movie itself-- thanks a lot for this awesome commentary!!!! :)
I just realized the significance of the smoke grenade. Martin used the smoke as a wind indicator so he knew where to offset his crosshairs
Your boss is always welcome. Lol. Everyone loves her. If you want your next perfect Christmas movie for people who don't like Christmas movies, watch Bad Santa. Your Mrs should definitely be in on that one.
Good reaction. You two got good chemistry. Like I said in the Die Hard comment... gotta watch two movies every Christmas: Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. 😁🎅🎄
Love these movies! So glad you're checking them out!
Team Work! Told u! Even the camara thinks that you two have somethin'somethin' chemistry going. Warmth, man + the christmas feeling
The misadventures of Riggs and Martaugh. Lol. I am getting too old for this sh@t.
🤣🤣🤣 He was ready to retire
@@deving9793 Yeah he was but his retirement ended being put off by like 4 movies. Lol.
Ha yay I'm glad I commented lol I love the entire franchise. I love the mug but now you need to get him one that says she's the boss lol. It's so funny, because this is the first movie I saw Gary Busey in, now I play this game on playstation called killing floor 2, he's the voice on the Christmas map lol, he even has his own character it's really funny.
Die Hard and Gremlins are 2 of the best Christmas movies ever made. I love Lethal Weapon but I never associate it with Christmas.
Oh yeah Gremlins. I think that'll be the most Christmas one so far.
Great reactions to a great movie Lethal weapon is a classic.
Great reaction! Now you need to see and react to the next three. I'll be waiting..
Now that Devin has the 1st Lethal Weapon under his belt, we've gotta get him to watch 'The Other Guys'.
The guy at the tree lot in the red flannel is Anthony Kiedas’ from The Red Hot Chili Peppers dad.
Loved your reaction! I'd like to give a shout out to the amazing Ms. Darlene Love who played Danny Glover's wife. Darlene is a phenomenal singer who had hits of her own such as, in keeping with the Christmas theme, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Due to horribly unfair music practices, she was often used as an uncredited vocalist/studio singer/backup singer but she worked with a TON of musicians on a lot of songs. Look up Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), chances are you'll recognize it if you hear it.
A very happy and healthy holiday season to you both! May God continue to bless you both now and throughout the new year. Cheers!
Lethal weapon: how much sax do you want?
Lethal weapon: all of it
Great commentary from you guys. I really enjoy this franchise alot. I look forward to watching the rest with ya'll. Stay safe out there.
How have you gone this long without ever watching this whole series of amazing movies
This is a good movie. Glad to see your wife back glad to always see her on here
You guys are good decent peeps
Lethal Weapon is a great movie because it has it all - action, comedy, buddy movie, romance, good characters, good dialog, good story and a Christmas movie to boot.
Lethal Weapon 2 ... you will love it!!
Ever since I started shooting I have been chasing that smiley face. 20 years later ... still can't do it at that distance.
Great reaction to this classic! 👍 Here are some suggestions for this holiday season: The Adventures of Tin Tin (2010), Catch Me If You Can (2002), Iron Man 3 (2013), and Munich (2005).
This movie IS proper christmas movie, not all christmas movies do not need to be happy smiling joy (though you have all of that and in Lethal Weapons and in Die Hard movies) only it is not always stuffed up in your face. Die Hard and Lethal Weapon movies are some of best examples of that....
Just wait till you get to meet Leo Getz
Devin G and mate, here's to you and your family having a Merry Christmas. Another good review !🎄
This was a great reaction! Had a great time! Thanks to you both! Merry Christmas!
Great reaction as always! You are going to love Lethal Weapon 2. It's one of the greatest sequels of all time. And you should follow up Part 3 with Loaded Weapon (1993) with Emilio Estevez & Samuel L. Jackson. It's so entertaining!
The way bullet proof vests work is: It still hurts like Hell until you pull the bullet out and show it to the audience.
Danny Glover 💗. I love him so much, I haven't watched this movie in a long time. It was fun watching both of y'all react to it. 😁😁
Die Hard is better but not by much. This chemistry is insanely good between Glover and Gibson.
Awesome reaction by you two. Merry Christmas!
Very respectable score sir. If I ever meet someone who doesn't like lethal weapon movies. Its someone I wouldn't fully Trust. :) great job like always sir
Great reaction! You two seem perfect for each other too, super cute.
11:04 Mel Gibsons character said I can get him down. He never specified how. So he did exactly what he said he'd do.
Awesome reaction video as usual! I grew up on Lethal Weapon, and as many people have said, the series grows on you as you watch the sequels. I'm on the side of liking Lethal Weapon more than Die Hard, but I love them both. Lovin' the duo reactions Devin, keep up the great content! I can't remember if you've done a reaction video for this, but "Gremlins" is a definite Christmas movie.
If even arguably loosely, this movie did have many of the themes of the spirit of Christmas, so I would wager it certainly belongs somewhere in the realm of a Christmas movie.
