Messed up order story: Good grief! By trying to save a handful of dollars, the boss literally lost thousands because he decided to have a couple of basically untrained guys do OP's job as they didn't make the same hourly rate.

I was the TV guru at WalMart # 1142 in Indiana and I knew my stuff We sold more electronics than the neighboring LARGER WalMarts, and we were recognized for that accomplishment. Among other things, I was the one setting up new display TVs. I would cut pieces out of the shipping box that had the Bar codes and TV make and model number. That would go into a ziplock bag along with any accessories, remote control and owners manual, then into a box in the "security" room. The displays would be up and playing for six months to a year. When the displays were sold, the customer would get the bag, and the enclosed bar codes would make it easy to scan and sell. At a fat discount.. I've been gone now for over 12 years now. None of that stuff is now organized. Lots of luck getting an owners manual or remote for your new USED TV.

Some of our earliest vehicles required a stick. Mules and horses don't like being whipped with a stick.

      Heh.
That stick shift explanation is kind of funny to most of us living in Europe, as a lot of us here still learn to drive using one, and in my age group (born in the 60s) most of us have used manuals most of our lives. First time I ever drove an automatic was when I worked in Canada for a few months in the late 1980s. Now when I have used both I still prefer stick, I just find those cars more fun to drive. And you can, with a lot of them, even accelerate faster if you know what you are doing.

I USED to be ready to fly as soon as the light turned green.
I've seen too many people running red lights to feel comfortable doing that anymore.
Now I wait a sec to double check cross traffic before I drive after my light turns green.

Something I learned early on in my last employer that I retired from, when told I made a mistake at my job my response was "I did" and apologized immediately which threw the boss off as he was expecting an argument. It was great when the boss was ready to rip into me as after the "I'm sorry " just stopped him on his tracks.

Okay. Short road rage/petty revenge story. I was coming west on I-😅70 in Dayton, Ohio several years back. Road construction. Great. It was night, so dark. Traffic came to a stop. We crept along, going 2 mph for 30 minutes or so. Every time I stopped because the car in front of me stopped, (every 15 seconds) the guy behind me either honked his horn or flashed his lights at me. What was I supposed to do, hit the car in front of me? Finally traffic cleared out and highway speeds resumed. This jackwagon kept behind me about 8 feet off my back bumper. Nothing I did would shake him. So I decided to reverse psych him further. I slowed down 5 mph. He stayed. Another 5 mph. Still stayed. When I finally reached 40 mph he finally roared around me, horn blaring and middle finger salute flying. Five minutes later I passed the car that had roared around me pulled over by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Don't know what he did to get their attention, but not my problem. Seriously, what was I supposed to do? Hit the car in front of me?

Shifting into neutral at a light takes pressure off of the throw out bearing and prolonged the life of this part of your clutch. It spins at engine speed the whole time your foot is on the clutch. The thrust bearing on the crankshaft also has pressure on it with your foot on the clutch. Bottom line is don’t sit 2ith your foot on the clutch of you don’t have to.

In my home town~woman was driving a pleasant vehicle. Two teens carjacked her ride & they drove off but didn’t get very far. The car had a stick shift. The teens had no idea how to drive that sort a car like that. They drove a short distance & then the would be carjackers bailed & then they ran away.

If the guy in the stick shift story was in that big of a hurry, shouldn't he have left his residence earlier? Or, why was he in so big of a hurry that he needed to go the minute the light turned green? He probably never checks for red light runners before zooming off at the green lught. One day that oversight will bite him in the butt.
The pharmacy has no control over insurance being accented, rejected, or not going through. The first two belong to the insurance company. The third could be for a variety of reasons. Maybe there's equipment failure somewhere. Maybe the communication lines have been damaged somewhere. And maybe the number given by the customer is incorrect. Best thing to do in this instance is to call the insurance company to find out why it didn't go.
$400,000 to repair roofs? Were the roofs being completely replaced down to the rafters, because that' the only way the price for repairs could come close to the quoted amount. If repairs only mean replacing shingles and flanges, there's no way that is going to cost $400,000.

It's really hard on the throw-out bearing to hold the clutch in at a light. Better to drop it in to neutral, then first when the light changes.

oh the manual versus stick. it takes me back. I was an au-pair in the states and was lent out to family for a few days as they needed to fly out to a family funeral. they had the only manual I have ever driven. luckily the son (pre teen) could tell me how it worked. it is different to say the least. just as different as having the steering wheel in the wrong side. driving on the wrong side is not a problem but everything inside is on the wrong side.

While Manual (stick) Transmissions tend to be more responsive and fuel efficient that Automatics, I personally prefer Automatics for a few reasons...the main one being trying to start moving while on a hill...WAAAAAAAAAY to easy to stall the engine if you lift off the clutch too fast but just as easy to roll backwards into the cars behind you if you lift off the clutch too slow...
    I much prefer Automatics thanks...

Where I live, there’s a very big hill that use to have the main road coming up from the river (before the drawbridge was replaced) next to it. On the FB Group abt the past in my city, I’ve seen countless posts from people who dreaded driving up the hill in a manual transmission knowing there was a traffic light @ the top.

Last story: $400k for roofs for a 100 unit condo association is a pretty good price. A building roof is generally good for 40 years, so if the condo buildings were built in the early 1980s or before, the roofs are due for replacement. It sounds that Karen, oops, I mean OP, is just whining.

Ok, OP from first story is an unreliable narrator. He started off by lying. It does take longer to go from stopped in a stick shift (I can drive both). I hate when I'm behind one at a stop light because they take that extra half second to get moving. They also do a tiny roll backwards as it gets put into gear.

    • @YourLocalRaccoon
      @YourLocalRaccoon 3 месяца назад

I used to drive a manual pickup, 86 Dodge d100, beautiful but the owner never took care of it. Anyway, at a light going uphill I could get moving without rolling back at all, and generally at the same exact pace or faster than the guy in the other lane beside me. Claiming a stick is slower off the line is hilarious, not only because it depends on the driver, but also because stick shift is still the go-to for drag racing and you'd think that people would use the fastest takeoff transmission they can when literally every fraction of a second matters. Stop posting nonsense, Karen.
