We all know this! I went back to my not so professional set up with two usb-cables connected via a hub, because the newer longer cable I bought always made trouble with tethering. It took a while (on shoot with a client) to find that out, which was very unprofessional. Not all those tips work on location but it might be a good idea to have 1-2 more cables with you :) Thank you Rachel for getting all the possibilities in one video, I didn't know there were so many! 😅

Always a good idea to have more than one cable handy indeed - good life lesson there. Glad you found out what your issue was!

Fab tips! 👌🏼 I recently had to update my tethering software to allow a new expensive cable to work, I very nearly sent it back. Worked a treat! 😅

So pleased to hear that. It can be such a hassle to work out what is causing the issue with tethering. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for your video, unfortunately i have tried all the above, my camera , laptop & cable are new, I also replaced the new cable just in case , still capture one doesn't recognize my camera ,but Imaging Edge does which is weird !
i tried via wifi connection , it shows my camera is busy :/ , do you have any idea how to solve that

Lots of great tips so hoping you can help me with this one. I have a Canon R6. I don’t have the Tether brand cords but my computer shop set me up with the right cords. Tethering works perfectly. I want to trigger my camera with a remote wifi trigger. That works and my strobes will also fire UNTIL I add my tether, then nothing works. I’m hunting around for an older remote trigger which will plug into my camera and will try that. It seems odd that everything will work until I add the tether to the mix.

That is really odd (and frustrating!). It's good that you've identified what is the issue, so it's unlikely the cable. I wonder if there is a firmware update that may help (long shot but always worth a try). What remote trigger are you using? That's probably the next thing to try - which sounds like you're working on that.

I've got an extra tip! I coudn't get my Nikon D810 connected with my Apple M1 MBP. No Mather what I did. Tips in this video didn't help. Than I suspected the power from the MBP USB-c ports to be to low, a common issue with USB3 divices connected via USB-c. I connected the camera via my Dell U2723QE monitor which has a docking solution built in (I'm not sponsored). Et voila! it worked. The power the comes from the monitor is sufiant!

Thank you! Was tethering with everything working, then it randomly stopped working because my R5 got stuck in charging mode. Took my memory card out and it works perfectly. Put memory card back in, back to being stuck in charging mode. Odd!

Did some more reading and looks like the issue is when using a CF Express card, tethering does not work properly. People said that tethering when using an SD card works fine.

That is odd! I am sorry to hear this is happening for you. If you are ok with tethering to an external source, like a harddrive or your computer, you may not need the card to be in the camera to tether (I shoot Nikon and you actively have to remove the card prior to tethering).

For me, there was a simple solution. Make sure camera is turned off. Then connect tether cable to camera and computer. Turn the camera on. Then launch NX Tether. In other words, I noticed that if NX Tether is already on when I turn my camera on, that NX Tether doesn't detect my camera. I followed the steps in this Nikon video since I have a Nikon: ruclips.net/video/PnXL15OKc64/видео.html

Of course! I usually do try to link gear, but alas, I forgot to this time. The one I use is a Tether Tools Tether Block: amzn.to/3UQNzH1
I'll update the video caption - thanks!
