Its not the drummer who is off beat or up-beat. The normal beat is played by the drummer and its thom yorke who is doing syncopation with the piano. But since Thom starts first everyone thinks is the drummer who is off-beat. Listen to the ride of the drummer, its doing the counting for a normal beat.
It's a swing beat, it's not that hard, it's in 4/4, Thom is the one doing the syncopation, the song is supposed to give the illusion of a 3/4 time signature but it actually isn't
Despite being a keyboard/piano player dude, I've always found the drums to be the most magical part of this song which has a magical flow to it as a whole.. I just love it when the percussion randomly pops in midway thru the song with that jazzy little tune/melody to them!

it is MOSTLY agreed that it is 4/4 but the syncopation and rhythmic pattern definitely makes it sounds otherwise.. i got what you were saying.. agwamc is just a rude person. ignore them...
When the chords start at 0:52 and the public shouts its truly an amazing moment. You just know that all those people listened to this song and were touched by it. They probably cried over it. But they are all gathered in the same place, to celebrate the emotion of a single piece of music. It must be therapeutic at some level. It's as if they finally made peace with the song

I love the reaction from the audience when they realize it's "Pyramid Song." The thrill they are experiencing is evident in their voices. I am so happy I finally got to see them on this tour.

No es depresivo ....bandas cómo estás evolucionaron a algo más íntimo, energetico, música para la conciencia ....personas más atadas a lo mundano simplemente lo encuentran "depresivo" ya que no saben como analizar está musica

No pudiste haberlo dicho mejor, Cristina. Me cansa que la gente emplee etiquetas tan superficiales como "depresivo" para describir la música de unos gigantes como Radiohead. Es mucho más profundo y espiritual lo que transmiten a través de su arte :)

La verdad el adjetivo "depresivo" es lógico que viene de gente que no es fan o que no conoce lo suficiente la música de la banda. Creo que también pesa que la banda sea descrita como "grupo de rock" en los medios, siendo que desde el 2000 en adelante a Radiohead solo se le puede definir como banda musical y acaso alternativa, y un estilo que para el "rockero" mas común no le es atractivo. Radiohead ha evolucionado mucho con los años, y tienen algunas canciones tristes y depresivas (letra y música) como Creep, Fake Plastic Trees o No Surprises, con miradas melancólicas de diferentes cosas, algo de lo que no están exentas muchas bandas por cierto. Pero en terminos generales, no es una banda de canciones tristes ni depresivas; el Radiohead post 90 no es ni alegre ni triste, es más bien profundo, analítico, intelectual. Las canciones más "emotivas" según mi opinión están en "The Bends" de hecho, con sentimientos mucho mas viscerales y simples. Y "Pyramid Song" por ejemplo bajo ningún punto de vista es depresiva ni triste.
A todo esto, tuve la suerte de estar ahí... Pude ver de cerca a Jonny tomar esa guitarra con el arco, y ahí supe qué iba a escuchar esta obra maestra.
La letra de “Pyramid Song” describe la transición entre el mundo de los vivos y el de los muertos...
“…y todas se confundían convirtiéndose en río y fluyendo como río hacia la meta, ansiosas, dolientes, anhelantes, y la voz del río resonaba llena de nostalgia, de dolor ardiente, de deseos insaciables. El río se dirigía hacia su meta, Siddharta lo veía fluir, ese río compuesto por él y los suyos y todos los hombres que había visto en su vida; toda esa agua y todas esas olas se deslizaban vertiginosamente, sufriendo, hacia sus metas, muchas metas: cataratas, lagos, rápidos, el mar; y todas las metas eran alcanzadas, y a cada una seguía otra nueva, y el agua se transformaba en vapor y subía hacia el cielo, se convertía en lluvia y se precipitaba desde el cielo, transmutándose en fuente, arroyo, río que volvía a reanudar su curso y a fluir. Pero la voz anhelante ya había cambiado. Pero “Siddharta” no es la única influencia literaria presente en “Pyramid Song” y Thom Yorke ha citado (además de un sueño que supuso el punto de partida para la letra) otras influencias de carácter escatológico como “El Libro de los Muertos” egipcio (según el cual los muertos suben a la Vía Láctea montados en unas pequeñas barcas de remos), el “Libro Tibetano de los Muertos” o “La Divina Comedia” de Dante (con su viaje a través del infierno, purgatorio y paraíso)
Al oído, un músico inmediatamente nota que la sucesión de acordes no es normal. Lo primero que se piensa es que se trata de una métrica inusual; sin embargo la canción está en 4/4. El baterista Phil Selway declara que en realidad no hay compás en el tema, no existe medida rítmica. La incapacidad del oído de "entender" qué es lo que está sucediendo con los acordes detrás de la límpida melodía vocal genera esa sensación de "estar perdido en el mar".
Sus compases siguen el ritmo 3/3/4/3/3, que pese a ser un 4/4 recuerdan al número de lados que cada cara de una figura plana debería tener para conformar una pirámide.
Se dice que Thom Yorke se inspiró en una canción de Charles Mingus, llamada "Freedom"
Las influencias cultas del grupo británico no pueden negarse; así, en Pyramid Song, Jonny Greenwood escribió la partitura para cuerdas utilizando el recurso de los glisandos de armónicos que Stravinsky hizo famoso en "El Pájaro de Fuego".
"La canción me tomó literalmente cinco minutos para escribirla, pero vino de muchos lugares raros. Es algo que nunca pensé que podría plasmar en una canción y líricamente. Pero me las arreglé, y fue bastante difícil. Stephen Hawking habla de la teoría de que el tiempo es otra fuerza, una cuarta dimensión, de la idea de que el tiempo es completamente cíclico, siempre hace esto [hace girar el dedo]. Es un factor, como la gravedad. Es algo que también encontré en el budismo. De eso se trata 'Pyramid Song', del hecho de que todo va en círculos".

Loved when these guys won America’s Rock n Roll Hall of fame. OnlY the drummer and rythem guitar player showed lol Yorke and Greenwood couldn’t be bothered. Butt the 2 that did show were so cool and extremely grateful
