      @@rossmanngroup I downloaded the software from FDroid before I read your reply. Does that have the capability of taking payment? I can uninstall and download the APK if needed. I like your business model. I run a tiny little side business (just me) that barely pays the yearly Internet bills and maybe a computer and it relies exclusively on open source, Linux, and low cost software. I hope one day that everyone can switch to an open-source and lower (more realistic) costing workflow. Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, and all the other subscription services that charge $1000/year for something that was open source 15 years ago is dead to me.

    I'm typing this comment right now with the FUTO keyboard. I'm using the large model on a mid-range Motorola phone and it's working perfectly. No joke, this is legitimately better than Google's voice dictation, and I love the fact that I have to manually stop it so it doesn't stop early on me or sit there and keep listening when I want it to stop.
    The Google Voice dictation also has a bug where sometimes when I try to stop in the middle of dictating, it will just keep repeating what I said last on a loop. So this is literally better than Google's. And even with the large model, the wait time is lower and the punctuation is perfect.

    • @JackWse
      @JackWse 3 месяца назад +4

      It actually makes a lot of sense, there's not a lot of things that are supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.. like I was dropping that out real fast on Google's, The biggest problem is when you have a word that logically would be in place but ends up coming out as another word or back to backs... Like when you have two words that the pronunciation at the end and the beginning have the same sound or flow or letter..
      And this is where personal training is such a boon, as, to make the system work properly and be able to do on the fly custom word pronunciations that aren't in a dictionary, It has to try to get everything syllable by syllable. What's frustrating beyond reproach, is that not only does the Google dictionary when using the browser to type something in to type something in immediately end up being able to figure out what you were talking about nine times out of 10 if you can't spell something... But I mean most spell check and grammar correction was able to do this back in like early days of word.. like I have no idea what the hell is wrong with the prediction algorithm but as good as it is at listening to a syllable by syllable thing which is probably where all it's training efforts have gone into, the actual logic there is almost nonsensical..
      And like most things in in the modern age, The simple fine tune and customization from your own personal wishes wants and methodologies... Well this bridge is the gap, as it always has, and with large language models out there I mean you'd think the capability of this has gotten beyond even better than we were doing back when Microsoft started incorporating the dictation stuff from I think dragon?
      But we don't exist in that space, everything wants to be hyper targeted, but it wants to make sure that you compress into a box.. you don't get to personalize your software, we're going to make software that's personal, and then make sure that you have to meet at halfway because there's no other option for you so deal with it.. and become easier to integrate with, especially as we would like to either extort or solicit further financial and/or other potential monetary extraction from your interaction.. which should not be a choice.
      Honestly I think it's the same mentality that has video game developers that are cry babies when people want to turn off things like chromatic aberration, something that's been the bane of every camera operator for the last period well since photography was invented.. or run it at a custom aspect ratio, or just do basic things that are custom instead of doing exactly the thing that you're supposed to do and be happy with it... And software is is the whole point of software is it's tool or an interactive medium in a lot of cases.. and because of computer technology lol we can do things like large-scale macro and even micro personalizations without having to build out specifically for each individual..
      Or.. we can approach it like a crazy person, and if we do that, do it maliciously in hostile compliance to prove the point that without your guiding hand over every aspect.. You're wasting everyone's time by wishing for these things that no one should care for.. and people don't anymore sadly.. people don't even expect to be able to do this anymore..
      The hypernormalization is so utterly pervasive in modern culture it's it's actually irritated it's like actually in raging.. things that should not bother me that someone doesn't care about should not bother me.. But because of that, eventually not only does advanced functionality get left by the wayside but the idea of actually wanting something more than what you're given from a hyperconsolidated product stack that has long sense moved on from actual functionality as it's primary goal and is just trying to figure out a way to make that work with some sort of extractive value.
      And this can get even worse as people get less technically competent, the kind of advanced, not really advanced but the kind of manual controls and things like an editor software that are very important to have, now becomes a thing where the idea of that ends up being considered a negative, and while most people can be comfortable with the things doing everything for you, for those needing more fidelity or just wishing for it really when it should be a thing.. now becomes a dying trend.
      And at this point everything is so consolidated and so utterly focusing on something completely different than the actual service providing, or just the mentality of providing that service has completely gone into a weird space.
      All the thousands of hours are recordings that it takes, and often it just gets worse.. sometimes it gets better, usually after it got worse.. and then Samsung just went into share Insanity like... I feel like the Samsung speech to text API got locked up in Bobby's puzzle basement or something with Raven software and had things done, and just can't make thoughts anymore... It was a lot better 5 years ago.. But it would always get worse after a couple of weeks lol.
      And this is the thing, like this isn't new software, it just relied heavily on personal training and in the dictation.. and pretty much everybody that's used speech to text over the last few years, noticed a a massive drop in the quality between the 2015 to just up to the last few years.. like I would say Google maybe got better about a year ago, and took away The comma bug that I won't even say out loud for fear of bringing it back into existence.. which has me relying on ellipses and ironically it decided to take one of the periods away lol and now I have to try to go back to using regular commas and periods... Which is weird because speech pattern wants the ellipses..
      But people can't read too good no more, so you throw curveball at them and then it's just like.. I mean shit just this amount of text is probably going to pop somebody's brain juice, and they don't even have to read it lol.

The ability to use any ML model for predictive text, autocorrect and voice input is incredibly powerful and liberating. Makes me feel like this is my device. Next target is Grammarly. LIKE WE ALL SHOULD BE. It may put off some people if he actually let loose his anger but I say it's NECESSARY. I like this. Because it turns this premise of current "software as a service" on its head:
    "You have to use/do this and even if you paid for it, I will also collect your data and will do anything I want with that."
    Instinct tells you to oppose this and to either try to get it anyhow or not at all.
    But now here the idea is like:
    "You can screw us and say you already paid for it even if you didn't. But you can also be honest."
    Considering it seemingly is a good software, open source and under active development...
    The same reason to pirate stuff because big companies want to screw with me now convinces me that if anything is worth paying for - it is this. Although anyone who want to ignore it will find a way, I would feel a bit bad abusing this option. Because this software and Louis' presentation of it is honest of its limitations, NOT trying to do things behind my back and against my will / best interest, as well as a certain sympathy for Louis and his work and as I said it works quite well in contrast to other software that also requires you to jump through hoops.

    That looks excellent, and the FUTO organisation looks great, too. On a side note, for people who want local voice to text on Linux, Speech Note works very well, especially if you select one of the largest LLMs. I didn't try supercalifragilistic expedaliacious on it, but on my first test it got "eleventh-century hagiographer," which is pretty impressive. Installation doesn't pass the Stepmom test, but I'm not technical and I figured it out, so should be easily in range for Linux users viewing this channel.

    Sorry about previously asking for clarification on the Immich thing, I didn't expect an angry comment back lol. The "indefinite free trial on the honor system" exactly explains what I was trying to understand. That being said, I'd really like to see this voice recognition project eventually expand into a FOSS voice assistant to replace Alexa, Siri and Google Home. I use Google Home devices to control my smart home, and the lack of a voice assistant ecosystem is the main thing keeping me from fully committing to Home Assistant. The tricky thing is figuring out the hardware to do that, too. I saw someone suggest a "USB Poly Speakerphone" on Reddit, but there doesn't seem to be much conversation overall on fulfilling this need with FOSS solutions.

    Hey Louis, I have been using FUTO's voice to text on top of the keyboard in Pre-Alpha for a while now and I love it! Advantages I really like about it are things like the speed of it being processed locally without the latency of going to a high traffic server, and how I can customize my own dictionary and not have to put up with the random and very oddly specific one use word suggestions by other users that an algorithm thinks is important for some reason.

      Yeah, me too. The one thing I haven't gotten used to is that it automatically does punctuation instead of me saying the word. And also, I have to wait for him done talking for me to see what I'm typing, whereas G-board is doing it in real time. But those are pretty minor things and a lot of it is just getting used to the new muscle memory slash learning curve.

    • @michaelcorcoran8768
      @michaelcorcoran8768 3 месяца назад

      @@JM.TheComposerYes, for years I've been trying to get G board to stop turning the word cause into the word cuz. What's particularly cool about this app is that it automatically turns "caus' or cuz into because
      I'm so tired of g-board thinking I prefer to look like a fifth grader.
      But I do still occasionally switch back to G board if I'm doing something that's very time sensitive for work because there's still just enough hiccups with my learning curve that I'm not totally ready to go cold turkey off of G board.

    • @ZealofSparta
      @ZealofSparta 3 месяца назад

      @@michaelcorcoran8768 You are right, the punctuation took me some time to get used to as well but overall it has been a time saver during Pre-Alpha since I can go back and do a quick cut. The biggest drawback I have had so with it is if I pause mid sentence to change course on what I wanted to say. When I do that it would start a whole new sentence with capitalization and punctuation, but again a small trade for a big gain in overall speed now that I am actually using voice-to-text.

    You are imparting valuable information and advice. The problem is not you. Rather, the problem is that so many heads of large businesses are tyrants.
    So for the people that are complaining that Louis is shining a light on those tyrants, my question is: How many tyrants need to piss on you before you welcome the pissing?
    If Louis shines a light on these miscreants, every day, the issue is not with Louis. The issue is the cancer in the business world that has spread as far as it has.
    We should be thanking Louis, and people like him, for standing up to one tyrant after another.
    He is risking law suits, and he is risking being shadow banned, or completely banned. He is putting his neck out there, and some of you actually complain about the valuable service that he is providing.
    Louis, there are always suck-ups to the tyrants. They are a tiny, tiny, yet vocal part of your viewership. Do not yield an inch to them. Their way is the way of surrender and defeat. They are losers. They are the reason that tyrants get away with so much.

    Finally, a keyboard that works, has the number row, and has the microphone icon ready by default. I downloaded this before I finished watching the video and must say, very impressive, so much better than the many others I've tried, and I didn't have to create an account or jump thru hoops; it just works perfectly! Thank you!

    Replaced Gboard right away, and I am impressed how it guided me to download dictionary for other languages that it doesn't support yet.
    Once again amazing work! Keep up!

    Futo voice is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Google voice to text. I've been using it for a while with swiftkey with no issues.
    Thanks Louis. Keep up the good work!!

      They actually reduced the length of that saying by 33% because the word "don't" was deemed to be far too negative.

      Lol.
      from the GOOG pre-IPO days, always just meant don't try to be MSFT or AAPL. That mindset gave you Gmail, Chrome, Android, HTML5 and "search don't sort" "mobile first design" etc product differentiation

    This keyboard is excellent! I was a bit skeptical to try it, but the voice to text works incredibly well and it has the added bonus of not logging every text I've ever sent! Great work!

      1) If you already paid for FUTO voice, we count that as payment for FUTO keyboard, so feel free to download FUTO keyboard from keyboard.futo.org & click _"I already paid"_ guilt free!
      2) Payment is best done inside the application if you sideload the APK via the download from keyboard.futo.org - less google in your transaction is never a bad thing.
