Hi Dewald. I recently came across a unique and extremely high-quality travel tripod...the FLM "CP26 Travel Tripod". It has super-strong 10x Carbon Fiber legs (26 lb load capacity!) with well-made twist locks, and a ball head that has several unique features that I've not seen in my 35 years of photography using tripods...For example, the "Pan" function permits butter-smooth normal panning, but in addition, adds a 15-degree ratchet function that is fantastic for us landscape/panorama photographers! There is also a "Tilt" knob that locks the ball head so that only one vertical/up/down plane is available. And finally, there is a "lock" function that locks the ball head from panning/turning, so that it can easily be unscrewed and/or mounted solidly. The kit comes with very well-made screw-on metal spikes, and folds up to a compact 15.75" for travel. Quite ingenious and precision design overall, and highly recommended for travel!! Bottom line: This FLM tripod simply exudes Quality. FLM-Canada supplies the US. Thank you, and Happy Shooting!

Thank you so much! Yeah the South African country side is amazing and it varies hugely from region to region. If ever this side, give me a shout

Finally someone who sees the same problem in regards of the missing spirit level on the base itself. Panoramas need it so much... My Manfrotto 075B has it but man... this is not made for walking ;)

I've got the sirui t1205x travel tripod which I love. It's not perfect but as close as i've found. it weighs only 800 grams yet can hold a 5d with 70-200mm 2.8 without problem. a seriously excellent backpack tripod. I've also bought a sirui ball head to replace the one on my bigger vanguard tripod because I wanted arca swiss type plates on everything. I'm surprised you had problems with he sirui ball head. Did you adjust the friction control? It makes a big difference.
    Great review though.

Shane Doyle Thanks man! Yes it is a great system, there is no doubt in that and the ball head works fine, I personally just prefer the 3 way system I am used to. I did play with the friction control but for some reason I just never fell in love with it. Maybe its just out of habit, I will just have to go back and play with it again.

Did you work out that the little silver adjuster on the tension knob lets you set where the least amount of drag you want to make camera movements is without it getting over floppy.
The ability to unscrew the lower portion of the centre column off is one of my favorite features as well for getting the camera down as low as possible.

Decent review. But it'd be even better if you shot some b-roll afterwards of some of the functionality you talked about and intercut it between, rather than putting shaky footage at the end. It would've made for a more informative video.

Charlie Cooper Thanks for the recommendation, That is something I have in mind for future reviews, its just difficult shooting and everything by myself, but it is in the pipeline for sure. Thanks for the watch. And if there is any other recommendations, please let me know, I would love to make it better for everyone.

Dewald Kirsten Yeah, it's pretty diffiuclt to remember everything you've said when you're doing it yourself. I find the best thing to do is outline everything you want to say into bullet points. For this review you started with the construction/usability of it and it wasn't until you talked about the studs that you really needed any CU of the tripod. Then the spirit level part, baseplate, etc. Basically, seems like it's just the CU inserts of stuff we can't see from that far away. Might be a hassle to review the footage afterwards, but it'd definitely help. That way one quick review, marking down what you mentioned that might need a CU, then you can film it all out there before leaving.

Dude! how huge is that?! not great for travel. But love the markings on legs, as I have done myself on my pods.

+Phil Indeblanc it will fit inside a duffle bag or large suite case, or strap it onto a backpack, atleast you know your tripod will be solid when its needed

with having a 70-200IS L, a 24-70L a 12mm, 150-600M Sigma Sport, and a 5Dm3 with 1 flash, a charger, batteries, and sensor clean and lens clean kit, plus a monopod(for the 600), I can sure appreciate a smaller tripod that can hold maybe 8-10# and be happy. This thing is just to big for hiking or field work.
