Lynyrd Skynyrd - Comin' Home (fan music video)

- I've decided to make available this fan music video I compiled/edited back in 2017. This is an amazing track by Southern Rock band 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' from the 1978 album 'Skynyrd's First And... Last'. I made this video before I used the shorter (and easier to pronounce) "Mich DC" name, so it has my full name on the watermark in the bottom right corner there.

This is my son's favorite Skynyrd song. He was in college in Florida & the rest of the family was in NJ. I think he was a little home sick. 15-years later he had a major medical issue & he was in a coma for 3-months. I'd play this song & Ain't Much Left to Me" by Blackberry Smoke on my phone and lay it on the pillow by his head. He survived and said he remembers it being played.
Nothing beats these guys, not now, not ever !!
This was my teenage years. Big block Chevelle with an 8 track blasting this music. Life was perfect then and we didn't even realize it.
@Joe with half a pack of matches for a wedge
Man I miss my 3 9 6, and knowing’ an album by the Track Clicks..loved the matchbook comm.
Same here '67 Chevelle 396/375. If I had 1 drive left...
Oh Wow Memories with a BIG Smile

The boys are all together again what a Beautiful day in Heaven
There will never be another band....
Never!!!!!!
Never be another band like this stop sensoring us you bastards
You did it again you basterds
I agree. I am so grateful that I have lived my life growing up with this band.
You got that right!! Sung by Gaines and Ronnie. Damn I wish I could have met them and sang w them.
Goodbye Gary. Thanks for the memories. R.I.P.
One of the greatest bands to ever play
Life was perfect then, we didn't even realize it,... 🎵🎸🤟🏼🇺🇸🦅🕊️
AMEN ! 👍🎸🎤🥁❤️
In my opinion Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines and not to forget Ed King are some of the Greatest Guitarist ever. Such a tragedy, wonder what amazing music they would have made.
Mich DC, I come from the early L. S. era. I have followed them from the beginning and their music is still going strong to this day. I dedicate all of the old timers to the music and the loss of our beloved members who have passed on. We will always be diehard fans to the end.....
Lynyrd Skynyrd was the pinnacle of southern rock at the time no one could top it 🇺🇸
So Sad that these Amazing Southern Boys were taken so soon for sure these boys are rocking in Heaven Sadly Missed
Johnny did an excellent job on vocals for his brother. Got to see them before and long after the plane crash. All time Southern Rockin Band! Love their music! ♥️♥️
The day's when All Americans were Patriotic & Loved America & enjoyed the Freedom we had.. 🎵🎸🤟🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
Good rock music of the seventies, fantastic...
I listened to this in Mississippi when I became homeless after my drunk dad threw me out at the age of 15. I ended up moving into an old slave quarters that had a tin roof, no conduit on the wiring, no running water and no plumbing. I drove a tractor for an old man that needed a farmhand. Child labor laws in that state back then were laughable. I loved every second of it. Freedom.
At 67 yrs old my heart is still broken of what is more than anything what could have been..
My all-time favorite band I graduated in 78
I graduated in 76, I will never stop listening to them
I saw them in Memphis July 4 1976 the GREAT'S BAND EVER to play rock music on any stage!!!!!!!!
Lynyrd Skynyrd was extremely influential to me starting at age 15. I feel like they had a hand in raising me. Where I wouldn't listen to mama, I listened and learned from Skynyrd. Many of their songs meanings formed my values...and that I still hold dear to this day. From First and...Last the songs Comin' Home, Was I Right or Wrong, Lend a Helping Hand I listened closely and learned about life.
God, after four decades I still love Skynyrd!
Great video editing for this song.
The days, when all Americans were Patriotic & loved America, & enjoyed the Freedom we have. 🇺🇸
Yes🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
Skynyrd was a force to be reckoned with. The hard work, dedication, and raw talent made them unique. And with Ronnie’s drive and charisma they were unbeatable. RIP, boys. We’ll see you again one day.
The audience is watching the best concert!! Ever!!!
It’s criminal this wasn’t on any of their official 5 albums
You all out there know this band will always be the best no one out there can even come close they were so tight a real bad ass band
Amen brother since 1974 anyone that says any different and doesn't immediately duck well they find out!! God bless the Lynyrd Skynyrd band and may God please bless the USA once again
One of the saddest days of my life when they crashed.... greatest band of all time without exception!!!!
World sure was alot easier back then!! Miss it!!
I have a 22 and 20 year old sons. I have told them many stories about our lives back then and they both said they wished they could have experienced it just once. We were the lucky ones.
Of All the Lynyrd Skynyrd videos and tributes out there, IN my opinion, This is One of the Greatest!
God they were a Awesome band !
The Greatest American Rock n Roll band of All time !!
They truly were.
Thank you. 🙏
Facts.... best band ever..
Amen!!! ❤🙏🇺🇸👍
Amazing 2 months ago and people still commenting on this. Shows how good they were and are still remembered.
Miss you, Gary Rossington. May you reunite with band members already in heaven.
🌴I'm sure glad I got to see them 6 times before the crash.🥃😎👌💔🌴
You are the luckiest person in the world 🌎
Yep. Me too. Saw them at RFK in DC on Memorial Day 1976 with Aerosmith, Nugent and Nazareth. We are lucky, man.
@@TheRaywachter Where were LS in the lineup? guessing up north Aerosmith went on last. Nazareth opened assuming also.
@@gottadomor7438 Nazereth, Nug, LS then Aerosmith.
I partied with Lynard Skinner bands and the other guys, at the red barn. There was someone there always practicing and getting high...it was always a great time , I'm from Jacksonville FL, we were all good old friends, that's how I will always remember them ,good ol boys!!
Wow, you were one of the lucky ones.
@tomsmith6181 yes indeed! I loved them and their music....they were very
Heartbreaking to see Ronnie with his little baby in the end. RIP Ronnie
" I don't know why the thought came to me but why I'm here I really can't see" great lyrics.
My favorite song.
Their most underrated and underappreciated song, which I absolutely love. It may not be a power anthem such as Sweet Home or Freebird, but it's the one song that that means the most to me. OUTSTANDING video footage!
Nice. Yes I am with you here. Three steps was short & sweet only 2 verses. I loved it as much as the power anthems u mention. It just hooked me in by the story it told. Very clever. Like how sweet home was recorded by Skynard. Neil Young never got over it. Very cool 😎. JJ Cales the breeze. Very clever. Like a great cocktail 🍸 Lynard Skynard had perfect ingredients for producing music unrivalled by knowone. Free Byrd is supported by the greatest guitar solo's ever played. More going on than meets the eye. Gone but never forgotten is testimony to how brilliant the music they produced truly was...
Lynyrd Skynyrd best of Southern Rock. I was in High school when the devastating news came that their plane had crashed. I was known to be a major - major fan back then we actually had telephones and the calls were coming in. We hooked the day of school and honored them in our way Rivera Beach!!! BTW it happened to be the one day my Mom was off work - came home to her saying she knew I had skipped school. I was ready to take the punishment for I told her My favorite band and its Members died in the crash... I truly was crushed. To me they are a part of my youth saw them two years ago and my love for their music true artists will live forever. Thank you for giving us music and your legendary spirit. Love you forever..., Elissa
I was fresh out of High school, Boca Raton HS ,I was working cutting fields , lunch time I called my Mom from the pay phone and she told me, I was devastated, she knew what huge fan I was , Had just seen them @ Hollywood Sportatorium 5 days prior to the crash, I will never forgot that concert, God bless our Skynyrd brothers and sisters ❤️🙏
@@cocktails7483, Pompano Beach here, I was a little too young to have seen the original line-up at the Sportatorium
( "Distortatorium" LOL) but, I did see them there in '87 with little brother Johnny in front.
His mom said Ronnie was the meanest, but all that practice practice practice made them the best southern rock n roll band ever
Gary's mom was mean? What did she do that was mean?
Piano, from heaven.
Wish I was back in those times man ! 64 now but I sure do I remember this tune it brings me back to sunny days!
Here we are, some 45 years later, and it still hurts me deeply when I think of that day,the crash, that went down within a couple miles of my sisters home in Mississippi. When I went to visit her,at the ripe old age of 8 years old,she took me to the crash sight, and she knew the old man who owned the land where they died.. He didn't say a word but nodded at her as she drove through his gate and then back into the woods and showed me the wreckage.. I always wondered why no one removed the planes wreckage back then,or why there wasn't an armed guard,or something to denote their passing... it kinda hurts me to this day when I think about it,or hear this particular song that they performed that day just prior to take off...
In my galaxy 500 back then listening to Skynyrd and still in my F-150 and will never fade away. The best southern country rock n roll of all time.
Be at home, GARY... I will always ''need you'' and the skynyrd music you helped to make this life bearable, and to be a simple man, thanks if you can read what I say :(...
They had some of the best guitar players in the industry ✌️
Hey dougyoak9079 you've erred . They were the best guitar players in the world..& Ronnie Van Zance backed them up with the sensational raw singing talent I don't think I've seen since his demise. He brought untapped energy delivered with his cool, impeccable timing & composure which made it look easy. Amazing legacy Lynard Skynard left for us to marvel at is sadly missed by all those who loved them for their success. 😛 & artistic brilliance !!!
Rip Garry, Lynyrd Skynyrd is back together and heaven is having one hell of a concert now.
One of the best damn songs ever written and sung. Everybody's got their own music, but man if you don't tap your feet, close your eyes and rock your head up and down to this song? We'll, I don't know, man, I can't help you.
This is and always will be a bad-ass song from a time I was privileged to grow up in.
Fantastic song all round, writing, singing and playing...take me back to the 70's today's crap .... RIP boy's!!
Only the ORIGINAL SKYNYRD WILL DO TODAY!!!❤️
Exactly, there is only ONE Lynyrd Skynyrd!!
Hat's off to RVZ's band
@@stingylizard they're carrying on a tradition and it's big shoes to fill they do their best they can't do it and Johnny magic really does put on a great show
Skynyrd is one of the best bands to ever grace any stage !! May the ones who died in the plane crash Rest in Peace forever !! Such a shame they were lost !!
Ronnie is home now
When van Zant passed the soul of the band was gone Ty for posting great job
I must disagree. Gary was a huge part of the heart and soul of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Everybody seems to forget he is one of the Original Founding Members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. He and Ronnie were best friends. Gary Rossington was a deeply important part of Skynyrd and he put all he had into the band. He was an exquisitely talented guitar player and he spoke to us with his guitar. He wasn't flashy or flamboyant but he was one of the best. Gary Rossington was just as important to Skynyrd as the other three founding members. And now he is gone. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
R.I.P. Gary Rossington. You will never be forgotten!! 😔✌️♥️✝️🙏💟🎸🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲. Love you forever, man. 💕💕💕💕😥🕊️
My best of music,,
RIP Gary Rossington...
So sad today. Last man standing from the original band has flown,. All together again, now jamming in free bird heaven, RIP.
Artimus Pyle (not very well liked by the other band members for years now) is still alive, but not sure if he was an 'original/original' band member? R.I.P. Gary Rossington. 😞
Artimus replaced bob burns , bob was original drummer
@@LS1LT1 No Artemus was not a founding member. They started the band in 1964. They didn't call themselves LS at first but of course eventually they did.
@@LS1LT1nah he wasn't. He came in after orifinal drummer Bob Burns left the band.
RIP Gary....love you brother
Damn, that Billy Powell could lay down some serious keyboard!
I understand he was classically trained.
@@filster1934 - He often sounds like he was. 🙂
“ I paid my dues and I changed my style, seen hard times all over now.”
As a kid I loved Skynyrd cause that's who they were but today I realized exactly how frgn AWESOME THEY WERE! IT WAS SIMPLY PERFECT!!
Me being a Southern boy let me tell you this is some of the best music I have ever heard. I love this song. Some of the best Skynyrd has never been popularized. Rest in peace Ronnie Van zant ❤️🔥
My favorite Skynyrd tune. (Tied with Whisky Rock-A-Roller). Beautiful song.
Been a lot of my young life.
When I get "Called Home" this will be played at My funeral.. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Fabulous video. Very well done. Saw them in concert about 20 times . End of an Era.....
I missed them by birth.
(1969)
But never in spirit. What a great band. You just can’t say enough about them. Not band worked harder. Sweated more, practiced more. Than lynard skynard.
Goodness this song is magic ❤
I remember cranking this song up in high school in northern Michigan in a 1968 ss 396 chevelle back in the 80's.
Loved those 68 BBC Chevelle STILL got mine!!!
This song has bean an ear worm for the last 3 months. Not upset. Amazing.
Kids listen to this song Ronnie was a master at writing songs with a great message 🎸🎸
Sitting on front porch listening to Skynyrd!
Never ever gets old ❤
Great Days in America 🇺🇸
Hello from Virginia my friend's 🇺🇸
Staunton brother, VA forever!!
Awesome song.
I've seen them three times in concert. It was 92,99 & 2006 When 3 Doors Down opened up for them. Every time that I've seen them it's been in Aberdeen,MD. The last time that I saw them I had won tickets off of a radio station in Baltimore, WIYY 98 Rock. I couldn't find not one person that would go with me that night so I said the hell with every single last one of them. It was an amazing night it was storming just before the start of the concert and everyone thought it was going to be cancelled but it wasn't. When Lynyrd Skynyrd Band came out on stage you could still see like heat lightning across the sky the entire time it was amazing. If they ever come back this way I'm going to take my son he'll be 18 in a little over a month and I want him to experience it for himself I think that he would enjoy it as much as I do. Let's keep Lynyrd Skynyrd alive forever and ever.
So you got to see the linerd skinard cover band?
Cause the real lynyrd skynyrd band died in 77 with Ronnie, steve and Cassie. I seen them one time after the crash but just wasnt the same band.
@@harrybalz525 Look people have their opinions about everything okay. So I understand that. But other than listening to the old Lynyrd Skynyrd Band on albums is the only time I've ever heard them or when they've been played on the radio. So I can't really judge that. I have the album with fire in the background behind the band which I have locked away and will never be opened or messed with as long as I'm alive. So I've listened to the lineup they have now. An the first time that I heard them I had my cousin was with me at the concert and it was too me was one of the best ones that I've ever been to. I say that because I lost my cousin to cancer a little more than a month after that concert.
Darell Gullion Don’t let the haters get to you some people just don’t get it.
@@lastchild6153 Thank You so much. I do appreciate it. When my cousin died a little while after that concert it surely took a piece of my heart with her.
@@dennisgoin8462 As for me Being a true Fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd I’ve been a fan since the first time I heard them on the Radio around 1973 and then collected All their albums after that. I was Lucky enough to have caught the Last 2 shows they did in Florida Oct 16th in St. Petersburg and Oct. 18th 1977 in Lakeland and unfortunately we all know what happened just 2 days later. I will always Feel a special connection to Lynyrd Skynyrd for that reason . As for the other version of Lynyrd Skynyrd I was Lucky Enough to have seen them in concert also when Billy and Leon and ED King were still Alive and in the Band in 1994. Every Time Ronnie,s Brother step,s up to the mic and Gary Rossington straps on his Guitar in front of a Live crowd they carry the Spirits of Ronnie,Steve,Cassie,Allen,Leon,Billy,Ed,Bob and All the others in Their Hearts with them. That’s not a cover Band my Friend That is the True Spirt of Lynyrd Skynyrd Tuesday,s Gone With The Wind . But If You Listen Close You Can Still Hear Them Play One More Time Again.
never be replaced the Ole skyryd boys.had many yrs of more great music to come.till ttragedy struck
I graduated in 70 and kind of grew up with these fellas. You cannot replace talent like they had together. Those were the days folks. 🐊
I was 16 in western Sydney Australia 1980 playing this at school. None of my friends had any idea who they were. First time hearing them had me captivated. Never stopped listening. Have a digital play list where 1click & I've got Lynyrd Skynyrd blaring in the man cave. My girlfriends out & lifes alright 👍. Happy days..
I play this song when I'm fishing on the lake in my boat and drinking a cold beer
You and need to go fishing together, if the fish aren't bitting have another beer😂
I had two older siblings who got me hooked on Skynyrd back in the 70's as a 13 yr old. Best band ever, and I have most of their vinyl albums still. I'd give anything to have seen them in concert before the plane crash. 😭😭
Real music stands the test of time⚡👍 anyone else get cold chills and tears!!??!!????!!!!
I sure do. Lynyrd Skynyrd forever!!!! ✌️♥️🇺🇲
I had a 70 chevelle 454. I love lynyrd skynyrd as much as that awesome muscle
They were something else, like nobody else.
Best American band, and I'm from Michigan
Uncle Ted was supposed to play with them at Madison Square Garden, November 1977, I think. Ted talked about it on podcast.
Wow that was awesome Mich! I'm an old fan,saw them many times in the 70's!!! That was and still is my band!!! To be fair; I just saw them in August 2021 and they were so good! Every one stood up for most of the concert!!!
Saw them in ATL in 2016 n most everyone stood the whole time as well. Forgot that
Do you ever put in a bad performance!! Another quality rendition. One of my favorite artists on here................
The footage of this is when they opened for the rolling stones blew the stones Way at that show ✌️
Before the crash that literally changed southern rock 😢
I love this stuff....hate todays shite
The song was recorded obviously before the crash. Billy added his piano to the mix after the crash. Probably my favorite "unknown" Skynyrd song.
I believe this was one of the Muscle Shoals songs from their early days. It's a beauty!
Half ways decent poor white/black boys pawns in an evil game of hatred and division. It's all the white man's fault for the crime of being born. New York City mainstream propaganda news and Washington D.C. be damned.
@1:05 me before the walking cane and support hoses. I was🔥🔥back then.
I keep playing this song over and over, because of the joy I feel when hearing one of my all time favorite songs. I love reading all of these amazing people who lived in a time of bon fires, camping under the full moon, smoking amazing weed that you did not have to worry about dying after smoking it.....unless it was the good stuff from my boys LOL!!! Blessings to you all!!!
I just moved back to my home town with my wife and son. I got a good job working for the railroad.
So the other day my wife and i both buy brand new dirt bikes.
Yesterday AM it was absolutely gorgeous out and warm. I got on my bike put my headphones in and had this song playing. Most free feeling ive ever had in my life. I road all day!
IMO, one of Ronnie’s best, along with I Never Dreamed. His writing was phenomenal.
Couldn't agree more. One of the finest lyricists to ever live.
Imho, RVZ's "secret" to songwriting excellence was ... just writing truthful lyrics (stories) to his guitarists' remarkable melodies.
He was a down home southerner w/ working class roots.
Together was 2 + 2 = 5 for sure.
Signed,
A "yankee" who fell in love w/ Skynyrd first time I heard Pronounced. (early summer 1976.)

Thank you! The song itself I got from the album 'Skynyrd's First And... Last' which is an amazing album full of previously unreleased material which was released after the plane crash tragedy. The footage in here I got from some live shows (in England and the US) where Skynyrd played other songs but I tried to match some clips of it up with the 'Comin' Home' song, also some stock footage of the leaves on the trees, the streets at night for example, some footage of Jacksonville, etc... and then some Skynyrd tour footage and photographs I found on the internet. =)
