I don't mind weird names, but do agree that if the mango already has a name, it should keep that name Po Pyu Kalay or PPK, is fine, no need to change it to lemon merengue.

I really like the turpentine... horrible name and a nice, nice taste to me...maybe because i grew up eating it as a kid in Jamaica

Some mangos taste like a cross between carrot and kerosene but are surprisingly not unpleasant to eat.

Agreed with all these names needing upgraded or dropped. For me, the mango variety name besides those already named in the video, is Florigon. No idea why but it sounds like a fertilizer brand to me 🤷‍♂️

I like mangoes names that are named after people. Second I like mangoes with Indian or Asian names.

    Renaming mangoes should be illegal.

You'll love my new variety called "fur ball"... a seedling of East Indian with twice the fiber.😜 I appreciate the explanation of Turpentine, which I would never have considered at all based on its name.

On the other hand, some Indian varieties such as Kesar, Himsagar, Jehangir, Chausa, Banginapalli, Malgova, etc. are pronounced differently in USA than how they are, in India.

I noticed Tete Nene aka Dwarf Hawaiian wasn’t mentioned. This mango is from Puerto Rico, NOT Hawaii.

I think renaming it Lemon Meringue was for marketing purposes. Lemon Meringue sounds more "interesting" and is more familiar here, than Po Pyu Kalay. I wonder if Zill adds Po Pyu Kalay to the name tags along side Lemon Meringue or just Lemon Meringue.

I feel the same way about Fruit Cocktail and for that exact reason I’m not interested in tasting it. As for PPK that’s a good point. In my opinion it’s like having a nickname. In my culture everyone has a nickname most of which have nothing to do with their given name. It’s more of a compliment if you get renamed. Lol. 😂 But I definitely can see the disrespect aspect for PPK too.

I'm from Puerto Rico, and that's where I'm writing from. I feel that what happened with our Teté mango was very unfortunate. There are people trying to correct the mistake of naming it Dwarf Hawaiian. I know the history of the confusion. But everyone keep calling it by its wrong name. That part is unjust.

Zinc sounds like a mango I wouldn't like but I'm sure it's fine.

Sein ta lone is similar in that it was ‘mistakenly’ called guava. Maybe that gets a pass as accidental. I’m not sure that is 100% confirmed or not. In a side note a great tasting would be Sein ta lone vs PPK as both originate from same country and Sein ta lone is ranked much higher.

As far as Po Pyu Kalay, PPK is an acceptable option. Lemon Meringue was unnecessary. But tough job naming mangos when you come up with as many new varieties as Gary Zill.

By many names; Lemon Meringue/Po Pyu Kalay/PPK. Either will work for me (as I also have an opinion on the matter. LOL.
