    I have no experience and am learning little by little online to play my husband's guitar. I want to play it at his grave in the Veteran's Cemetery. Rest in Paradise, Stephen.

    Hey, I’ve played for 65 years and I am still trying to figure it out! Dang, finding your channel is literally a God-send. Being challenged by Dyslexia, visualizing a song, fretting, strumming, etc. is how I roll. You speak to my soul.
    I miss the days of the garage bands, battles of the bands , frat parties, beach scenes and jamming, playing warm-up with some of best. This, to me, is my new musical fuel.
    If you could teach me how to sing, I’d be ready to hit the proverbial road..lol!

    The cover was better than the teaching! It’s crazy I’m in Scotland, I was t familiar with this song until I watched a video with the song writer and how Garth came to accept the song after the top artists at the time declined it. Wow cheers

    Thank you! I saw Tony Arata, the songwriter of this song, sing and play it at Little Nashville, in Marion, IL last night. What a treat. I’m just learning to play, and my husband said, play “The Dance”! Thanks for teaching it to me!

    everyone should play the Bm. Even if it sounds bad at first. Eventually it'll sound great. Just practice, practice and more practice..

    • @partymartyeasyguitartunes1711
      @partymartyeasyguitartunes1711  7 лет назад +2

      I strongly agree

    • @LonskiBig
      @LonskiBig 6 лет назад +1

      ..I disagree partially.....use Em instead while you're getting the Bm down....it's not that much different and if it's the difference between playing the song in front of people and NOT PLAYING...I say use it....It's taking me forever to quickly change to a Bm chord in songs.....The strings partially get muted for a split- second which interrupts the song as I barre it.......Em is not that much different......it's NOT from lack of practice, I've spent MONTHS on this...

    • @howsyourdangler
      @howsyourdangler 6 лет назад

      If you can play a 4-finger F chord then just use this shape and shift it down a whole string and up a whole fret. So instead of X33211 play XX4432

    • @LonskiBig
      @LonskiBig 6 лет назад

      ....thanks for the tip but it's a matter of "speed" ....When you're doing a song, you need to change those chords "fast"....It depends on the song of course.....I use it in "I Let Her Lie" by Daryle Singletary because the pace of the song gives you that split- second to put it down.....

    Marty thanks! I use to play all the time but had put my guitars in the closet for awhile, life was just too busy. Anyways i got one of them out tonight and came across your channel here and started playing along. Forgot how good it felt just to play the guitar and sing. Anyways thanks i'm going to be using your stuff here and brushing up on my pickin' and grinnin' if its decent I'll post something. Thanks, Joe Star

      Hey Joe, That is great that you are playing again. The worst thing you can do is lock a guitar in the closet. Buy a guitar stand for 12 bucks at your local music store and then put it next to your comfortable chair. I guarantee you will play more. If you can see it, you will want to play it. Good luck with it and welcome back!! You won't regret it!!

      @partymartyeasyguitartunes1711  6 лет назад +1

      This one is a little tough as I just kind of use my feel for it. I just lightly brush the strings that are being pressed in the chord. I'm afraid, this technique only comes with practice, just use a simple up down strum and as you get comfortable with the chords, try and make the strum your own a little. I know this probably is not the answer you are looking for but I like my students to try and find the strum on their own. Hope this helps. hey, I am trying to reach 100k subscribers so tell your friends about me, it would be greatly appreciated, thanx for tuning in, good luck to you and take care

  • @bornblonde9gb
    @bornblonde9gb 8 лет назад

    Thanks for this helpful video. I'm a beginner, i find it incredibly difficult to change chords without a gap in the song. Do you ever get to where it just does not hurt the fingers anymore, as when i am attempting to play, all i can think about is the pain...lol Great voice also, love this song!!!!

    • @jperce1
      @jperce1 8 лет назад +1

      Funny, Keep on playing it gets better trust me. Put it down for awhile and then pick it back up. You may want to check your action it may be to high or get some light strings.

    • @EJDeen
      @EJDeen 8 лет назад +1

      It does hurt in the beginning. Make sure you don't strain your wrist, but keep building those callouses on your burning fingertips, and it will get easier and better. If you feel wrist strain, take a break. And like jperce1 said, make sure you check your string action. If it's too high, it makes it harder to fret. Also, make sure you have the right guitar for your body size and hand size.

    • @bornblonde9gb
      @bornblonde9gb 8 лет назад

      Thank u for the advice, my guitar is cheap which might be part of the problem IDK, it is getting a bit better, maybe, just can't imagine being able to change chords with no gap in chords!!!

    • @jperce1
      @jperce1 8 лет назад

      A cheap guitar may make a difference. Take it to a guitar store and have them check your action (how far the strings are from your fret board) if its high have them lower it. Get light gauge strings. This is your guitar make it feel good for you and keep on pickin. I was just like you, everybody was it's normal.

    Hi Marty,is there a way I can get round the Bm,I'm not at that stage yet,I can get most if the song but BM and F are still killing me

      Move your Bm up to an Em... Then, G to C, C to F, and D to G. Still got an F but you can play an Fmaj7 (I think that's what it is... Just an F without the barre)... You can also do the Bm the same way as the Fmaj7 with only playing the bottom 4 strings with small bar on B and e strings.

      Just seen the video and was about to ask the same question - so thanks, I can't get BM either even without the barre version, cheers Stu

      Stewart T.
      Just use the first 3 strings barre up at the seven fret for Bm and fmaj7

      till you get the Bm play a B7 it don't sound to bad just mute the B and the high E string it'll work till you the the Bm

    ...no man......use Em.....it's too damn hard in the beginning to use Bm w/o destroying the congruency of the song....use Em and in the mean time....PRACTICE on the Bm..........but really....the difference is not that great...In a smoky club, noisy....people talking to each other....drunk...it's not going to matter......
