- Mulligatawny Soup dates back to the days of the British in India. Mulligatawny is basically a curry-flavoured soup that often contains a bit of chicken. The name Mulligatawny comes from two Tamil words meaning 'pepper water'. Mulligatawny Soup is a true fusion of British and Indian cuisines, invented centuries before the concept of fusion became popular.

I've always wondered how to make this soup....thank you Keefy!! hope Mrs Keef Cooks feels better soon xx
I learn so much here! TYVM , hoping Mrs Keekcooks feels better after this savory soup .
That looked amazing so much effort you put into that Keef wow you are a chef 👨🍳
Love this recipe out of the 8 recipes I just viewed - to me this is the closest to what I’ve tasted in the 80’s. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I first tasted mulligatawny soup in a cafe where it was the soup of the day. I instantly loved it, great recipe Keef 😀🥣
The old school soup which you don’t see very much in restaurants. I used to love this soup....glad you brought it back keef....I appreciate you making yr own stock also putting in the love to make it....fantastic 👍🏻👍🏻
Wonderful as I love soup even in the height of summer and my mum did too.👍😘😍
I have always wanted to make Mulligatawny soup. It looks really delicious. Thanks for the great instructional video, Keef.
Great recipe Keef. I always wondered what to do with the left over juices from a chicken. I normally throw it away. NOW I know. Thanks for another great video.
Get well soon Mrs Keef. I reckon the doctor would order you to take a bowl of that soup!
that stock!!!!! didnt matter what you did to the soup when you started with a superior stock.
Mrs Keef Cooks need some soup to make her feel better. 😉
Great job enjoyed it thoroughly , I’ve got to make it
Great looking soup Mr keef . That in a flask on a cold day would keep you nice and warm. Hope Mrs keef cooks get better soon.
Yum! I think I'll make that this week. Hope Mrs KC's feeling better soon.
What a great looking soup. I hope Mrs. Keef feels better soon. Cheers!
Wonderful video and recipe. Best to the Mrs!
Looks great! Here in the States, Mulligatawny Soup (in the places I've had it) is more like an Indian flavored minestrone. I'll have to give your version a try.
There are soups especially in southern India like rasam but people eat it with rice and from rasam itself they invented mulligatany soup by adding meat
Brilliant gives me some ideas and keeps me busy :)
Good job sir, have some thumbing love 👍😍
Hey Keef you did really well with this meal.....i enjoyed this video
I recall an Indian restaurant menu that explained mulligatawny as something like,"Created for the English. Good for me...good for you." :-)
One of my favourite soups, Keef!! Used to have Heinz Mulligatawny soup as a kid in the 70s, I think that used beef. Cheers, Ged
I agree I've perfected the original Heinz 70s version of that soup and everyone loves it .
Got to have a good stock the key to all dishes
Just tried asdas own for the first time and it was delicious. Never heard of it before and can't believe i missed your recipe. Can't wait to try it
My pleasure 😊
Mulligatawny soup is one of my go-to's, but I have never made it just eaten the tinned. I think it is incorrectly described on the tine as a beef curry soup, but don't hold me to that. Glad you did it with chicken. thoughts to Mrs Keef, missed her.
I actually looked at the ingredients on a can of Heinz Mulligatawny - nothing at all like this and it was mostly tomato-based.
i'll be trying this for supper.
Garlic and ginger paste is easy to make e.g. 150g of each, add water (or oil) blitz et voila, tastes great. Leave the ginger skin on, no need to press the garlics
get well soon mrs keef
love tamarind ! will look to amazon for ginger-garlic paste. we have a winner ! but maybe i'll change up the bread...
Keef you remind me so much of myself in the kitchen that you now have a new subby, don't know the missus but hope she's on the mend.
Ah, you need to looks at some more recent videos: Mrs Keef Cooks has been doing a taste test at the end of every video for about the last 2 years.
@@Keefcooks. Like I said I'm a first timer and will definitely be playing catch-up for the next few months, all power to your spatula my friend.
Cracking dish mate, it's coming into winter here, perfect timing. I hope the handbrake gets better soon. ATB Moose.
Handbrake - lol, not heard that one before!
I always think I don't like soup until I have a bowl of it in front of me. Then I always enjoy it. This soup looks delicious. How 'bout a taste for me over here Keef?
Thanks for the recipe and the vid. Best regards from USA West Coast.
That looked fantastic, can’t wait to make my it too. English naan LMAO!
Sneakers8b - agree, that was hilarious 😆
You want bread? Three dollars! No soup for you !
I think I will just buy a very nice stock but maybe one day I will make my own.
Chicken stock flavoured Ice Cream. YUMMY. You could rename it Mulligagallones after the famous Gallones Ice Cream from my home town which ironically is Northampton’s legendary premium ice cream since 1895 ;) Maybe patent it lol. Hey, Could you give me a shout out next time please as I always watch your videos. Have notifications enabled so I NEVER miss out.
Thought it was Richard Branson, for a minute...lol

I will never forget this soup thanks to Seinfeld and the Soup Nazi
Ah, I never watched Seinfeld.
What a fabulous idea for using up my chicken carcasses. Keef, it's another winner 🏆
Rick
Skip the chutney, and use a green apple instead with the chopped vegetables. The tamarind overpowers all the other flavors.
Keef...you look like Fred Delius!
The composer? That's a first - can't see it really.
@@Keefcooks Sorry...I'm an idiot. Try Sir Thomas Beecham.
Its a chicken massacre! Not that i'd be able to do any better - I'd be using a small axe or heavy meat clever!!! :D
Hi there, this is actually scottish/indian
Evidence?
@@Keefcooks hi, it's just something I know. I'm from a Scottish military background. I'm sure that there will be evidence somewhere, however, I believe the scots that were in India invented it and brought it back to England.
Lol, I don't think it's that important - until Scotland leaves the Union, its Brit. 🏴 🤔
Hi Keef
I'm Dringa vlogs
I'm completely blind, autistic and have a chronic heart condition.
I found your video because I was looking for a vid about the spotted dick pudding.
You see, because of my autism, I have what are called special interests, which is like a hobby on steroids, a topic I like to research the crap out of.
One of my new ones is the British bread pudding called "spotted dick."
I can tell you where the name comes from.
The spotted part comes from the dried fruit inside the bread, which give it a spotted appearance.
The "dick" was an old word for "pudding."
Originally, the word was "puddink," which was shortened to "dink," which was shortened to "dick."
I've never had it before, but it's on my birthday list, which is three months from now.
I'm not from the UK, but I was interested in the specific pudding I specified earlier.
My youtube channel is Dringa vlogs

Damn fine soup my man! Bloody well not cricket though how Roosevelt and Churchill ended our wonderful Empire. There would be none of this damn backbiting and turmoil if we still had the Raj, kept them in their place you see, let them know who is the boss. Discipline, that's the key, bloody good thrashing with a bamboo pole when they step out of line, just like looking after children. Damn good thrashing never did anyone any harm what!
Best go easy with that Tamarind eh, loosens the bowels terribly, nothing worse than blowing out a guff over a G & T only to realise you have followed through, Damn inconvenience when you let one fly from the chutney closet.
Richard Graham - Sir Douglas Bader couldn’t have said it better, bless his soul....
