The 4-track demos are like an alternate reality where Dookie came out on Lookout Records
right, love the "raw" sounds, reminds me of the first 2 albums 👌🏻
I'd like to think a Lookout records version of Dookie would be more punk. I was a little disappointed that a lot of the 4-tracks only has vocals and guitar

Maybe it would be a little more "punk", but the pop-oriented sensibilities of these thin demos and their DIY aesthetics definitely fall in line with what Lookout records were doing.
While the demos sound more raw, theyre honestly more pop than the real dookie

...in the sense that I was 12 and had the song on repeat til I grew so tired of it that I could never really enjoy it again. Now I'm 41, and no matter how much I love a song I have to take a break from it after a few days on rotation.
So a piece of my childhood right here :)
I‘ve got a lot of great memories with Green Day songs, one of them is this song for some reason it reminds me my high school era, Green Day is the reason I learn to play the guitar and learning English too, I hope to see them on live concert. Saludos desde Reynosa, Mexico, viva Mexico!

Billie Joe Armstrong is a top 10 all time songwriter IMHO. These demos highlight how good these songs really are.

this version is nice, but the official version is undoubtedly the best one, it has more feeling into it and the bass is awesome as well
I remember hearing this on WFNX in Boston when it first came out, I was 11. Always my favorite song off Dookie, felt like a cool kid when this was finally released as single

Dookie takes me back to youth. I was like 13/14 playing basketball and this cd, night time playing NBA Live 95 and listening to Dookie. Not gonna act like the biggest GD fan because I haven't liked much of their new stuff in a long time but listened to most of the 90's stuff to the point I'm on the 4th or 5th cd for Dookie, Insomniac and Nimrod from scratching them so much

Definitely written around the Kerplunk era. If Green Day made Dookie as a 3rd album for Lookout!, this is what it would sound like. Honestly, I consider Dookie as Kerplunk part 2 with better audio and production.

@@JG-ts2ud Since I love that song and if anything it's the other way around and since it's only the arpeggio together with the chords rather than the Frusciante-like way that the chords are played, which was what my post was about...I'm perfectly fine with that. : )
