The moment you realise that the opponent is serious about doing damage to you, put yourself in a position where your vital points are offline, meaning that they are not easy targets for your opponent.
Examine your opponent's vital points. Vital points are places around your body that are not naturally protected by muscle, making them the best places to aim for. Vital points run through your center line- which runs from top to bottom of your body. Get yourself in a low stance, one that is not easily shifted by your opponent. This gives you a good, solid base to launch effective attacks from. Attack whatever you can logically get at. If it means that your opponent isn't going to recover in order to keep yourself safe, then by all means do it. Remember the axiom "the best defense is a good offense." If you have made every attempt to avoid the confrontation, you can reasonably assume that any sudden movement on the part of your opponent is the start of an attack. The moment he initiates his attack, attack him. In all likelihood, he has initiated with the thought that he will simply drop you. So when you beat him to the punch (literally), he will be caught by surprise, and give you an opening to catch him with a follow through. Dynamically respond to what your opponent does. Say your opponent throws a right punch at your face and you block/dodge it, think about what is easy to get at, in this case, assuming you blocked with your left hand, his/her stomach, solar plexus, throat, groin and eyes will all be open to you. All you need is one scoring shot and he/she's going down. Manipulate your opponent's body weight. If your opponent is punching you, that would usually mean that he/she is lunging forward. Grab their arm with one hand and pull them into your attacking free hand. Your surroundings contain surfaces much harder than anything on your body. If you are able to smash your opponent against a wall, tree, rail, or the ground, and you must do so to end the fight, then there's another option. Try to remember, though, that self-defense only goes so far.

I respect what Paul does and as a teacher. I do think he should stop saying things like "once you've headbutted someone they are out of commission for good" and "the headbutt is possibly the most lethal thing you can do to somebody" This is two of the dumbest comments I've ever heard related to fighting.
And before any fanboy/nut hugger chimes in. I was a cop, correctional officer and security at two different clubs. I've have given and been on the receiving end of many headbutts over the years and the worst thing I've ever seen is a broken nose (that did NOT stop the fight)
Ppl need to stop exaggerating the effectiveness of techniques. I have been training Gracie Jiu-jitsu for 22 years and Muay Thai for 30 and have learned to never assume a certain technique is going to end a fight. Broken noses, cracked skulls, broken arms, gun shots, stabs. I've seen people fight through all of these.

I second this opinion. Having studied Pentjack silat In my younger years and being in the bar scene I was in many knucklehead fights and was on the receiving end of these headbuts once. It was out of nowhere and was their first strike but did not take me out and I was able to recover fast and respond accordingly. I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket with this strike...

We would need a time machine, go back to 1990 and say " Hey Paul that follow-up hold-Head-butt is not a KO".
However, done correctly it does slam a collision in trifecta as Paul describes. A knee to the groin, an elbow strike, followed with a held collision head-butt. All three slammed in combination could allow escape or head stomp, etc.

Though I truly appreciate this video, I must agree with what you are saying. Now, if he were to say "temporarily disable a person," or "slow them down," I could go for that. But to say "end the fight" is assuming a lot. You always have to leave room for that margin of error.

@@ColdSoldierX83 real fighting & competition fighting is totally different.
Just because there is no video evidence of fights or bragging about it don't mean they never fought or can't fight.
Bruce Lee was well known for fighting in the streets way before he went to the US.
That was why his parents sent him to the US in the first place.
Close friends & family have seen him fight & defend himself on movie sets when bullies often challenged him.
& challenge him on the streets.
In those days there was no such thing as cctv or mobile phones so pretty hard to prove he actually fought we only have word of mouth from those who knew him the best.
There was no octagon no mma tournaments in the 60s & 70s
Only karate tournaments in which you had to be a registered karate expert to fight in them.
& since Bruce Lee didn't do karate or believe in belts etc.
It's pretty hard to prove how good he was in a fight.
However if people all over the world mostly from america wanted to train with Bruce then surely these people some of which already were accomplished martial artists including Chuck Norris. Bob Wall & Danny Innosanto to name but a few.
If his rep wasn't good or couldn't fight or wasn't who he claimed to be then why would some of the most famous martial artist of that time bother to train with him & stay with him until his death.
Because Bruce was good he was fast powerfull & would prove it to anyone who doubted him.

I think the best Defense is a PREPLANNED Offense! Wherever i go im continually observing what I can Use as a weapon long before there are any signs of an attack! Example: if at a bar you dot bottles of booze and pool balls and chairs or stools. On a city street there is Auto Traffic you can throw or trip an attacker into it, into a store front window...anyway being Pre prepared is key

With the headbutt, you should always practice after the headbutt part two which is spinning to their back under their arm, picking them up and dumping them. If you are a wrestler you can easily suplex from there (as you know). Most fights won't end on a headbutt. I am a bar owner of more than two decades, I know I have the video. A headbutt, spin to the back, hips under hips, pick up, dump, take hooks. Best advice is avoid barfights.

The point that a lot of people miss is jkd was tailored to what worked for Bruce and it was constantly evolving! Go ask Dan, if you don't believe me. What Paul is doing works for him and exactly how bruce intended it to be. I don't care if your a cop security guard or even a bar maid for that matter, or how much you've seen! What works for you dosent work for Paul, what works for Paul obviously dosent work for you. No need to complain about it. You don't have the speed. Velocity or power that Paul has and I guarantee that! This is why it works for him and not you. And why you don't see others being successful at what he is doing! This guy is devastating fast, that's why it works for him! No need to criticize for that. You're way is not my way and my way is not your way and that is exactly what Bruce taught. Paul is a genuine man phenomenal martial artist. And a great friend of mine , I talk to him often I love the guy and deeply respect him! . what I can truthfully say is if we were all at a bar together. Hanging out and Paul walked in wanting to fight. I would be the first dude running for the door. While the rest of you idiots where debating how effective he is ! You would be learned the wrong way! In about 10 seconds he would be at next bar down the street having a beer with me! You guys do not know him! Everyone is tough until they meet the wrong person, I for one know the right person. See you soon buddy!!!

Head butting someone is not nearly as easy as you say it is, and especially not at that close range. But more importantly, head butting in a fight will hurt you just as much as it will hurt them. Sure you might break their nose, and maybe that will end the fight, but it’s not worth the physical trauma you will experience in the long term. The elbows and knees are great as long as you train to be able to properly place them in the heat of the moment, but you gotta lose the head but. It’s just not worth using.

Get the f_ck out of here with your oppressive ideologies. Go to the Middle East and join the rest of Islam in abusing women, raping children and murdering innocents. Islam is a lie and the Qur’an deserves to be torched with the radicals that weaponized the religion. F_ck Islam.

Not contradicting his training he is great. I did notice thst wouldn't he be open for a gnarly uppercut? Iv seen it before. From the clinch , their hands are tied up which leaves there chin wide open for a small amount of time. Who knows with getting your eyes gauged lol but for a normal person they are left wide open. They could Raise both arms then break the grip by horizontally separating.

That is why you are moving and pulling the neck so they can't line up anything. If you stand there doing HKE an uppercut is likely. The pushing pulling is taken from Dumog. Dumog is like Philipino Grecko Roman wrestling. It keeps the feet moving and destroys base.
