It depends on how you remove gel polish from the natural nails. If you soak off, then we recommend only applying protein bond to the tips of the nails. If you remove with an e-file, you can apply protein bond to the entire nail, two coats if you want.
Hi ☺️! I’ve read everywhere that your product is the best there is. I wanted to know if I could use it before gluing my fake nails (they are transparent and I use a glue that needs to be UV cured. Then I paint over the fake nail) Sorry I hope I’m being clear 😅😅😅 Thank you very much !
Our protein bond doesn’t well with glue. If it’s a gel then it may work fine, but we can’t say for sure as we don’t test our products with other brands.
Protein bond is a non-acid primer so you don't need to use another primer with it. We use swipe before using protein bond. Swipe is our cleanser/dehydrator.

My apologies if I missed this but which of the steps and when do I use it for Gel-X? The two coat method he talked about first prior to nail glue and then cure? Tysm in advance
If you are using nail glue, you do not use protein bond until after the tip is glued on. If you are using gel to apply tips, you use protein bond after cleansing with swipe, before applying the gel.
Hey @youngnailsinc for clarity, the section at 5:13 is for application with normal nail polish (NOT gel) on natural nails, correct? Because at 6:06 in the same section Greg says he is applying a thin coat of base GEL. But I also noticed it was the clear bottle that (as far as I understand) is the nail polish (NOT gel) base coat. Just want to make sure I'm applying correctly, thanks!
Does Protein Bond have a shelf life? I am asking about opened and unopened bottle life because I have 6 bottles ¼oz sizes, some opened and some new unopened. TIA 🙏🏽
Protein Bond has a 12 month shelf life from opening. If the bottles are unopened, they can last longer if stored in a cool, dry, temperature consistent area. If the bottles are opened, they should be used within those 12 months as air can begin to evaporate the solvents within the product and it can begin to thicken the more the product is opened.
Great video! Thanks Greg for the education... question, what's the shelf-life of protein bond? Asking bc I have 4 bottles and don't use it regualrly... so it'll be sitting around for a minute
If you are using the ManiQ Color, it has a tacky surface after curing the color. Do not wipe this off or buff the nail, just go right in to applying your ManiQ Top Coat. Protein Bond would not be necessary between any of your gel polish coats.
Two questions, sorry if I missed it in the video. So no primer needed, correct? This is essentially the primer and base coat in one? And will this work under polygel? I can never get polygel to adhere. 😊
Protein bond is a non-acids primer, you do not need another primer with it. No, it does not take the place of base coat. You still need to apply base. Unfortunately, we can speak on polygel as we don't use it.
Protein bond is a non acid bonder. We use our product Swipe to cleanse/dehydrate the nail. Swipe is an alcohol and acetone based product formulated to cleanse the nail perfectly for product. Here is a video about Swipe & how to use it: ruclips.net/video/lXxr0U-kHkM/видео.html
Hello. If I am using regular gel and I want to apply protein bond, do I need to apply based coat still? Also, can protein bond work as a adhesive primer ? I am new on nail industry and I am lil confused. By the way I love your videos.
You still need a base coat for the natural nails unless the gel you are using says otherwise, like our one-step gel polishes. Protein bond does not take the place of a base coat. It is a non-acid bonder. When using with gel polish on natural nails, it depends on how you remove gel polish. If you soak off, then we recommend only applying protein bond to the tips of the nails. If you are working with resin glues on your wraps, we do not recommend using Protein Bond. If you are applying your wraps with a gel, it is possible Protein Bond may help, but we do not test our products with other brands to be able to say for sure.
I use usually first a prep (dehydration) and then a primer (attachment). So is the protein bond like a primer and swipe like prep? first prep (swipe) then primer (protein bond) ?
Correct, swipe is our cleanser/dehydrator and protein bond is our non-acid primer. You use both of these after pushing back the cuticles and removing shine with a 150 grit sanding band at 3,000-5,000 rpms with light pressure.
I started using protein bond on gel polish I love it because it doesn’t come off anymore but it’s cracking on the tip. How can I stop my gel polish from cracking ?
@@fernandaaguirre9166 Unfortunately, we can't speak on other brands as we don't test them. I would ask in our facebook group and then other people who have used this can help if they have had this problem.
QUESTIONS: If I am doing a tip and dip could I use the bonder on top of the plastic tip as well as the natural nail before the dip application? Usually a bonder only goes on the natural nail section. Also, would you recommend using bonder on the entire natural nail before gluing on a plastic tip? Would that help keep tips on longer especially when applying to shorter nails? Thanks!
You do not use protein bond before gluing the tip on as it does mix well with the glue. Also, if you are applying the dip with the 4 step resin method you also do not use protein bond.
Protein Bond can be used under the gel polish application, but to avoid chipping, we recommend using two coats of Ultimate Finish or Stain Resistant (if working over an enhancement) to seal the chrome. Make sure to seal the sides and free edge as well.
Sooo let me get this straight if I’m doing a gel manicure 1 coat of protein bond on the whole natural nail and then bond the edge? Also when you say bond over a finished nail do you mean after I’ve put maybe two coats of gel polish then bond again? Then top coat? @youngnails someone please help me out ❤❤❤
If you are soaking off a gel manicure then you would only apply protein bond on the tips of the nails. If you remove with an e-file you apply protein bond over the entire nail. After finish filing an enhancement, we cleanse with swipe and add a coat of protein bond to help prevent chipping/peeling of the gel polish color or gel top coat. You do not apply protein bond between gel color and top coat.
When going a gel manicure.. can i prep the nail, add protein bond, apply base coat, then another coat of protein bond over the cured base coat before putting my gel colour on??? Would this help the gel colour to hold onto the base more????? Or do i only need the protein bond under the base
PB is for gel, acrylic enhancements there is question if it is for use with Dip liquids/slick pour as this seems to require rubbing alcohol as prep/prime only? I got an email once from Jess stating no PB it isn't for slick pour as a primer
Protein Bond works great for any of our acrylic, hard gel or soft gel enhancements. We do not recommend using it before applying any resin glues, such as gluing on a tip (but you can use it after the tip is on, before applying the acrylic/gel) or when using the Slick Pour with the resin system.
No, you remove the shine from the natural nails with a 150 sanding band at very light pressure at 3,000-5,000rpms, cleanse with swipe, apply protein bond and then apply your product.
Hi! So let me get this clear. Just say I’m going to do a gel manicure. You said in your video the you don’t put protein bond on the whole nails except the tip of the nails. Is that correct? So if you don’t put protein bond the whole nails the gel polish would adhere to the natural nails?
As long as you are prepping correctly yes. Protein bond does such a good job of adhering product that if you soak off and applied protein bond over the whole nail it will be harder to soak off.
Can someone tell me if you can use dehydrator, protien bond then their nail glue to help press on nails last longer? Or the protien bond then the young nails nail glue?
We would use swipe on our natural nails to cleanse them after prepping the surface and then if you are applying the press ons with glue you would not use protein bond. The 2 do not mix well. ruclips.net/video/20cj9EZaTEk/видео.html
Two questions please because I’ve seen so many people use it differently. Let’s say I want to do a gel manicure, I would add it on the entire nail before adding base coat? And if I’m doing an acrylic set I would add it after gluing the tips on the natural nail??
When doing a gel manicure, apply Protein Bond to the whole nail before base coat if you file your product off to change the color. This way, the base coat will be completely bonded to the nail and you only have to file the color off, not the base coat, which will help avoid damage to the nail. If you soak off your gel manicures, only apply Protein Bond at the free edge before base coat to give it the bond it needs but will be easier to soak off. For tip and overlay, prep the nail, cleans with Swipe, glue on the tip (shorten, shape and blend) and then apply Protein Bond.
Does this work with dip powder ? Also I’m a little confused. So you can do protein bond - gel base coat - gel polish OR protein bond - gel polish OR both ways ?
If you are applying dip with the 4 step resin method then you cannot use protein bond. You use protein bond as the last step in your prep before applying the product. If you are using hard gel or acrylic, you can also use it after finish filing before gel color to help prevent chipping/peeling.
Question say your putting on plastic tips.... Prep the nail med arbor band ruff up the nail then do you use swipe protein bond then glue the tip on or do you apply tip then protein bond before gel or acrylic application
I have thin nails with ridges, I tried doing my own gel extensions at home but they pop right off! I follow every single step sadly, it happens every time I've tried. Will the bonder help?
Yes you can. Just make sure to file the surface of your Slick Pour application with a 150 grit file to smooth/shape, dust off and apply a coat of Protein Bond. Then you can go right to your gel polish color, no base coat needed.
Protein bond is a non-acid primer. We cleanse the nail with swipe after removing shine and then apply 2 coats of protein bond. No other primer is necessary.
I struggle so much with not getting lifting with my Builder Gel. I tried the YN bond but still struggling with the lifting... maybe I should try ruffing up the nail. I never tried that.
Hello, Quick question. for hard gel, I use synergy build pink. Do I need gel base after protein bond? Or do I go right into Hard gel right after protein bond?
Unfortunately we can’t speak on other products as we don’t test them together. You can always give it a try and see how it works or ask in our Facebook group to see others experiences.
Hi. i try to use protein bond for acrylic.customer. also i used to use primer. when can i use primer for acrylic nail? Or only use 2 times protein bond and acrylic powder? without primer?
If you are using the traditional resin/glue with Slick Pour, we don't recommend using the Protein Bond. If you are using Slick Pour powders with Conversion Gel or acrylic monomer then yes, Protein Bond should be used.
I wear press on nails and sometimes I want to add a uv gel top coat if it’s a French style but I can’t file first to rough it up cause it will ruin the French but if I just put it on it will start to peel! If I used protein bond first would it help to keep it from peeling?
You can rough up the entire nail before applying the french and then once you have painted the french you can apply the top coat. You would remove shine from the press on with a 150 grit file, cleanse with swipe, a coat of protein bond, then your french and top coat.
So it won’t work without roughing up the nail first? I use the press ons that already have the French on them so if I went over that with a file it would take it off and I also use nails with other design on the that would also file off so I’m trying to figure out a way to add a top coat without having to file but also won’t peel off. Is this even possible? Lol
We can’t speak on how our products work with other brands and we do not test them. We recommend one coat of protein bond for most people and 2 for heavy lifters.
Protein bond is a non acid primer.. it doesn’t chemically etch the nail like a traditional primer does. Protein stays sticky.. sticks to the natural nail and then sticks the product. Here is a video on Protein Bond & how to use it: ruclips.net/video/GY8KvVKJlQE/видео.html
No you do not cure it. Just like in the video, by the time you are finished applying it to all 10 nails you are good to add a second coat and then after all 10 again are set to apply your product.
Protein bond must stay this size because the chemistry changes when made in a larger size and we would never want to compromise the integrity of the product. The product evaporates every time you open it so over time it thickens. If we do a bigger bottle (which we used to have), it becomes too thick to use at some point and a lot would go to waste.❤️

I started using protein bond on gel polish I love it because it doesn’t come off anymore but it’s cracking on the tip. How can I stop my gel polish from cracking ?
What top coat are you using?
@@youngnailsinc Mia secret finish gel ultra shine
@@fernandaaguirre9166 Unfortunately, we can't speak on other brands as we don't test them. I would ask in our facebook group and then other people who have used this can help if they have had this problem.
@@youngnailsinc I understand. Is their a top coat you recommend me to use?
@@fernandaaguirre9166 If you are using gel polish on the natural nails then we would use our ManiQ Top Coat.
What about if you are putting tips on before an enhancement? Should you put protein bond on before gluing the tip or after?
After glueing the tip. Here is a great video for you: ruclips.net/video/aMbRah86HMA/видео.htmlsi=8tD6cVqrxrqbJumH
I LOVE PROTEIN BOND! Definitely my favorite product to use. It’s a MUST!!!!!! TFS
❤️
Can Protein Bond keep the gel top coat on chrome from chipping. I always have problem of chrome chipping.
@@youngnailsinc thank you for the reply in the same day. I rock with y'all!!!
When going a gel manicure.. can i prep the nail, add protein bond, apply base coat, then another coat of protein bond over the cured base coat before putting my gel colour on??? Would this help the gel colour to hold onto the base more????? Or do i only need the protein bond under the base
You only put protein bond under your base coat.
Do I have to still use dehydrator with the protein bond
Yes, we always use swipe before protein bond. Its our dehydrator/ cleanser.
So we have to removed the shine of the protein bond before adding snitching to the nail?

@@youngnailsinc ok thank you so much for getting back to me!
Question:
Can I apply this and then use silk wrap and then rubber gel for protection and extra extra strength?
Unfortunately, as silk wrap and rubber base are not products we manufacture, we can't speak on how they work with our products.
Do you put protein bond on before gel color and again on top of the gel color before topcoat?
Just on the enhancement before the gel color.
@@youngnailsinc what is an enhancement?

What are your steps fro prepping the natural nails?
Yesss you guys do. I have it and I loveee it. You guys have the best nail products hands down.
Can I used PB on top of dipping powder? I like doing gel design on top of dipping powder, but over time it usually chips.
Yes you can. Just make sure to file the surface of your Slick Pour application with a 150 grit file to smooth/shape, dust off and apply a coat of Protein Bond. Then you can go right to your gel polish color, no base coat needed.
Hi , does this provide good adhesion for press on nails?
If you are using glue to adhere your press ons you would not use this. Protein bond and glue do not mix well.
Thank you, can you recommend any good nail glue I've tried so many over the years and in the last two years many of them no longer work.
I have tried many nail glues, Bondini, Nyk1, Beauty secrets ,Kiss and a few more that I can't remember.
All of our products are available on our website, youngnails.com
Just got mine. Holy cow it's tiny. Excited to try!
It's good to refresh my knowledge! I was taught if you want even better adhesion to cure it for 30 secs. Is this true or am I wasting my time?
Protein bond does not need to be cured or left to dry. It’s suppose to be tacky. Once you have applied to all 10 nails you are ready to apply product.
Great information ❤️
❤️
I have the swipe, can I purchase just the pump?
You can reach out to our customer service team at info@youngnails.com.
What's that for? I hear people say use dehydrator primer and the5 base coat. 😮 Thanks for video

Hello,
Quick question. for hard gel, I use synergy build pink. Do I need gel base after protein bond? Or do I go right into Hard gel right after protein bond?
You need to use the hard gel base.

Protein bond is a total game changer !
can you use protein bond prior to a builder gel application which is not a hard gel.
Unfortunately we can’t speak on other products as we don’t test them together. You can always give it a try and see how it works or ask in our Facebook group to see others experiences.
@@youngnailsinc I just reached out to YN Facebook group hopefully I will hear a reply back.🤞
Hi. i try to use protein bond for acrylic.customer. also i used to use primer.
when can i use primer for acrylic nail? Or only use 2 times protein bond and acrylic powder? without primer?
You don't need to use a primer with protein bond. Protein bond will take the place of your primer.
@@youngnailsinc ok. Thank you so much.
Is this compatible with dip powder liquids
Lol
Should I apply two coats of protein bond before gel x?
We can’t speak on how our products work with other brands and we do not test them.
We recommend one coat of protein bond for most people and 2 for heavy lifters.
Does it bond together with glueing the nail on ? I think that’s where I am making my mistake?
Protein bond is a non acid primer.. it doesn’t chemically etch the nail like a traditional primer does. Protein stays sticky.. sticks to the natural nail and then sticks the product.
Here is a video on Protein Bond & how to use it: ruclips.net/video/GY8KvVKJlQE/видео.html
Do you put under the UV light afterwards?
No, protein bond is ready by the time you have finished applying to all 10 nails. Then you can apply your second coat and then your product.
can it help with soft gel tips too?
Unfortunately, we can’t speak on other brands as we don’t test their products.
Do you use a dehydrator before or after the protein bond?
Swipe is our cleanser/dehydrator and you use it before protein bond
So this can n used on regular polish as well?
Yes you can and it works great! You still want to use your base coat though.
Hi sorry for daft question but do i cure this and how long Thanks
No you do not cure it. Just like in the video, by the time you are finished applying it to all 10 nails you are good to add a second coat and then after all 10 again are set to apply your product.
So you dint need to UV cure it?
No, it is not a product that you cure. Once you are finished applying to all 10 nails you are good to apply your second coat and then your product.
I just love you guys, I have learned a lot.
I am in Jamaica ST James Montego bay
Love this product just wish it came in a larger container
Protein bond must stay this size because the chemistry changes when made in a larger size and we would never want to compromise the integrity of the product.
The product evaporates every time you open it so over time it thickens. If we do a bigger bottle (which we used to have), it becomes too thick to use at some point and a lot would go to waste.❤️
do i use need to use primer after the protein bond?
Nom protein bond is a non-acid primer. You don't need to use another one with it.
Can this be used without gel polishes? Will regular nail polish last as long?
Yes you can and it works great! You still want to use your base coat though.
Can u use this under builder gel?
Yes, we use this under our hard gel during prep before applying our base gel.
