This movie had my friends and I cheering at some points. We had an absolute blast watching this. Get some beers, watch it with a group of friends, you can't go wrong
Just stopped by to like as I haven't seen this yet, and definitely plan to. I've heard it's larger-than-life dumb fun all the way, which sounds pretty good to me right now. (weirdly enough I got the audiobook for 49p on Audible a few weeks back but haven't listened yet because - again, want to watch the movie clean).
I had exactly the same thoughts about the movie. It had a Tarantino, Guy Richie feel to it. And as you said, it never tried to be anything that it wasn’t. I felt like it was much better than it should have been, on paper. I genuinely laughed once, which never happens in a theater. So all in all, it was fun, enjoyable, and I didn’t regret spending the money on a ticket and popcorn.
Amusing fun is a major accomplishment in recent years. If it could have found a way out of the obvious post-Quentin tone it might have been way more popular but I am old enough to appreciate the modern flavor of the old recipe.
Yeah that was pretty much my take. A lot of really unrealistic stuff that would normally annoy me, but it's ok because they're doing it for fun, not to dismantle the patriarchy.
I'm a little late, but I didn't get a notification. I saw this in the theater in August and watched it again the other day. I absolutely loved it - it's not going to win any Oscars, but it's such a fun movie. It's definitely a "turn off your brain and eat popcorn" type movie.
It's a good movie, it's not great, but it's good. Honestly, if I was in a bus or an airplane and I had to burn time watching a movie, I'd rather watch this over most MCU movies
I was so confused as to why Daemon all of a sudden has short hair in HotD and now I know it was to save money on cgi. Thank you for my realization of the day.
I hated The Big Hit, too, so this makes sense. For a moment, I was asking myself if I might have been wrong, but Zack's movie taste differs from mine egregiously.
Just saw Bullet Train yesterday, and really loved it. It was a breath of fresh air. I got strong Quentin Tarantino vibes off it. All the agents are acted very well, Lemon and Tangerine stole the show in my opinion. The action scenes are fast-paced, but there was very few jump cuts, making each scene feel grounded and real. The scene where Tangerine and Ladybug are fighting and just stop when a civilian conductor walks through was just hilarious.
It was a fun movie. Though to be fair, I thought Ladybug was suppose to be played by Johnny Depp, and that Brad Pitt was replacement casting during Depp’s blacklisting period.
I saw it in theaters with a bunch of people, I liked the movie, but I think I ended up being more interested in how, when, and why the audience laughed, or cheered during moments in the movie.
It’s one of those times when the villain is so much cooler and interesting than the protagonists, but done to the point where you wish the movie was about them and groan every time it cuts to the heroes.
It was weird. I hated every character in the movie including Brad Pitts character, but I was still mildly entertained. I think I had too high of expectations going in.
They never stopped making those post-Tarantino movies, the post-Tarantino movies just changed somewhat because they got more Tarantino stuff than two movies to pull from. Bullet Train is practically Kill Bill on a Train...with other Tarantino stuff worked into the mix. It’s not as good as Kill Bill, but it’s definitely pulling a lot from Kill Bill. Even something like the twins in this movie seem to be a play on a dropped thread from Kill Bill about Gogo having a twin sister that tracks the Bride down in California (while driving a ice cream truck) and gets into a big gun fight with her shortly after the opening fight with Vivica A. Fox. At least chronologically speaking it would’ve happened shortly after the Vivica A. Fox fight. I wonder if Karen Fukuhara original had more to do in the movie. If there’s some cut footage with her. Because she’s in the movie. She doesn’t do much. She’s not there as a “hey, look who this is” cameo type role like some other people in the movie. And she’s seemingly killed off, off screen. Michael Shannon as the Russian was some very odd casting. I was kind of surprised the Japanese cast wasn’t loaded up with people (like Tadanobu Asano, Riki Takeuchi, and Kazuki Kitamura) from Takashi Miike films.
Zach you keep using the phrase 'post- Tarantino movies' but there's an even better definition: Guy Ritchie movies! ... aaand I've realized I'm 18 hours behind schedule because RUclips notifications are busted and the comment section is full of people saying the same thing... whatever A Guy Ritchie movie is basically Tarantino...if Tarantino would've stopped evolving after Pulp Fiction and just did the same fuckin' movie over and over again since 1995. 😏 My true shock was to discover this ISN'T a Guy Ritchie movie... it's a COPY of a Guy Ritchie movie. So basically it's a copy of a copy. I agree that at least it was a fun movie...the kind you watch ONCE and then just forget about it. p.s.: the second to last movie star Brad Pitt looks OLD in this. I mean I thought he looked great for his age in 'Once upon time in Hollywood' and 'Ad Astra' and both of those movies are just 3 years old. In this one he looks OLD and the 'young hipster' look just makes it a lot worse. Especially his movements look like of those of an old man. No amount of CG and shaky can can fix that.
NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE BULLET TRAIN! I thought they were called bullet trains because they're shaped like a bullet, a resemblance if you will, not because of the speed. BTW Bullet trains rock.
I ha the sane thought about this movie. Oh no, another Tarantino/Ritchie wannabe. Only watched it last night, and yeah, I did enjoy it more than I thought I would. However, I agree with all of your criticisms. + it's way to long. At 95 mins. it could have been the "perfect" popcorn movie, nonsense and all.
Yup, it's definitely for Western normies. It's a nostalgic photocopy of a photocopy(The Big Hit, etc) which it's self was an imitation of Hong Kong action/crime movies scripted by Westerners with an HK director. Bullet Train is tonal mush. My wife wanted to see Brad Pitt in Japan and was disappointed in the film's "fake Japan". The films violence was overdone to the point it wasn't fun, funny or shocking. Like hot 🌶️ peppers piled on to make something spicy instead of being incorporated into the recipe. Yet, somehow Bullet Train is still bland.
Zack's confirmed not a Diesel.
This movie had my friends and I cheering at some points. We had an absolute blast watching this. Get some beers, watch it with a group of friends, you can't go wrong
Amusing, not a comedy. Great way to describe it. Either I was smiling or shaking my head like "omg come on" the entire time. I enjoyed it.

Oh gosh no. This was not only this year, this was only 4 months ago, so well after the 're-re-opening.'
One thing this movie was is fun
A basic story told well isn't a bad thing
I liked this movie quite a bit when i saw it in theaters and it held up when i saw it again on netflix this weekend.
Amusing fun is a major accomplishment in recent years. If it could have found a way out of the obvious post-Quentin tone it might have been way more popular but I am old enough to appreciate the modern flavor of the old recipe.
Still wish Tangerine would have made it.
Yeah that was pretty much my take. A lot of really unrealistic stuff that would normally annoy me, but it's ok because they're doing it for fun, not to dismantle the patriarchy.
I saw this in the theater. A very enjoyable experience.
Came out this August a year after Shang Chi and 8 months after Spider-Man. Definitely not the first movie post lockdowns.
I watched it in theaters and had a lot of fun watching it too.
Can’t wait for the “What’s Wrong With…” for Transfusion. Looks to be right up your alley.
I'm a little late, but I didn't get a notification. I saw this in the theater in August and watched it again the other day. I absolutely loved it - it's not going to win any Oscars, but it's such a fun movie. It's definitely a "turn off your brain and eat popcorn" type movie.
I was half-tempted to watch this at Alamo but never got around to it in the 5 minutes it was in the theater.
It was great on National Cinema Day. If only I didn’t have to ask where my drink was?
I woild have loved it if it was trimmed down to an hour and a half.
This movie reminded me a lot of Smokin' Aces
It's a good movie, it's not great, but it's good. Honestly, if I was in a bus or an airplane and I had to burn time watching a movie, I'd rather watch this over most MCU movies

I thought this movie was great
When you were talking about faux Taratino moves from 1995 to... I literally said 2002 right before you did. I watched so many of those.
I hated The Big Hit, too, so this makes sense. For a moment, I was asking myself if I might have been wrong, but Zack's movie taste differs from mine egregiously.
Enjoyed it in the theater but had an audio streaming/lag issue at the end. I may watch it again on Netflix but I'll definitely pickup on BR.
I loved this movie! So awesome!

Channing Tatum... Oh mama... Wraff wraff wraff *animated oldschool wolf noises
It reminded me of Smokin Aces
Great movie.

I found it more like Smokin' Aces.

A well done flick
I'm a super weeb, and I've never heard of Maria Beetle (the novel). I think it's fine to adapt it to something more relatable
The big hit 👌🏻
We had a date night and watched this. Super fun. Yes, this is our idea of a date movie.
Edit: no massive glaring agenda was refreshing
On a different note, for your Christmas viewing pleasure or introspection try out, “Joyeux Noel.”

Felt like smoking aces. Bunch of killers doing what they love best
I really liked it but still felt something was missing from the movie. I can't figure out what that was though.
Zach you keep using the phrase 'post- Tarantino movies' but there's an even better definition: Guy Ritchie movies!
... aaand I've realized I'm 18 hours behind schedule because RUclips notifications are busted and the comment section is full of people saying the same thing... whatever
A Guy Ritchie movie is basically Tarantino...if Tarantino would've stopped evolving after Pulp Fiction and just did the same fuckin' movie over and over again since 1995. 😏 My true shock was to discover this ISN'T a Guy Ritchie movie... it's a COPY of a Guy Ritchie movie. So basically it's a copy of a copy. I agree that at least it was a fun movie...the kind you watch ONCE and then just forget about it.

A little too silly, not enough Zazie Beetz (she needed a better part).
I thought the dialogue was tedious and I hated all the exposition. I gave up this movie by the 20 minute mark.
Yup, it's definitely for Western normies.
