Even though I used your recipe to make this delicious daikon, and actually impressed many of our Japanese friends, I still come back to watch it every time I want to make it. Just love it. Thank you guys!
Oh my stars! I used this recipe for my family and they all loved it! Even my husband who isn't fond of dashi flavor really loved this dish. Thank you so much!!
One of my favorite things about Japan is how flavorful all of the vegetables and salads are. Can you please make some more recipes for seasoning and preparing veggies? 🥕🍅🍠
Love this! Two of the vegetable side dishes I miss from my time in Japan are burdock root, and sweet potato balls rolled in sesame seeds (they were made with the purple potato type). The burdock root was cut in sections and simmered in a broth, I think. If you could come up with recipes for these you'd make me so happy!
I finally made furofuko daikon! Directions were simple, product was delicious and melted in my mouth! I wish I could show you a picture! Thanks for the recipe! My next one is Imoni. 😋
I rescently found your show and I love Japanese food recipes. This is a good one. I've made this before for a Japanese friend and she loved it. She was surprised. I had never tasted it before and the flavors & texture came out perfect. I followed a cook-book recipe. Instead of the Tablespoon of uncooked rice I used rice rinsing water to cover and do the first boil for the radish. The recipe said it takes some of the sharpness out of the radish. It was wonderful.
@@thedoover6520 7 mins high wait 10-15 mins for natural release pressure then remove. Don't to quick release bc of all the liquid it will come squiirting out. Also if u make extra and soak the daikon radish in the water overnight in the fridge the flavor seeps in more.
Thank you and I still have a question. First he cooks it, then cooks it again with water and seasoning. Do you cook twice in the pressure cooker? I'm thinking I could use pressure for the first, then the saute or even slow cook for the second. Thank you. Due to dietary changes and only having an instapot, I need to learn how to do cook different than I have been.
@@thedoover6520 Actually I was lazy and didn't do it twice since he said the rice purification part doesn't have to be done and I saw a lot of radish related instant pot recipes online that didnt do the 2 step so i did all in one. But if u would like to do 2 step maybe do 4 mins with rice clean out the water and do seasoned water for 3 mins. I'm just not sure if it will get too soft by then since I never tried. Cause 7 mins in pressure cooker already gets the radish pretty soft.
I try this recipe my husband like it. im so happy to see this video cuz I'm trying my best to cook Japanese delicious foods to my husband.thank u so much.more videos like side dishes.😊
TabiEats Thank you so much for making the Furofuki Daikon video! I have a hard time picking one favorite Japanese food, but this is in my top 5 favorites. Some days I think this is my favorite of them all! I just love it. I make it at home, especially in the winter. If I am making rice at the same time, I use the rice rinsing water to cook the daikon. That does the same thing as putting the rice in the water with the daikon. This is such a delicious dish, and it is so good with rice, too! I hope others will try making it. Arigato gozaimasu, Shinichi and Satoshi! :-)
Omg! I have all the ingredients to make the sauce, just going to run and buy the daikon, thanks for this recipe and I really love watching your videos ❤️
🤍Never seen this recipe before, greeting from San Diego Town Mexifornia Thank you for writing the recipe, I’m cooking it right now, if one doesn’t have dashi at home the advice from chef Adam Liaw is to replace with half teaspoon of fish sauce and that works for me too.
Even in America, we've heard of cooking Daikon in rice-washing water! I have tried this a few times, it doesn't seem very exciting when you hear about it, but it's really delicious! Also economical and not fattening. I'm going to try to grow these in the Winter, and will need to have more ideas about how to cook them if it works out. I think this is almost "bachelor cooking", this vegetable might be in your refrigerator... like carrots that last a long time, when everything else is spoiled. I often have soup with daikon, carrots and potatoes in it because that's what there IS, it's what my grandparents ate in Eastern Europe, for different reasons.
Great simple recipe! I think I will do this for a potluck. Daikon is also so ood for you! It has anti-aging properties and protect against heart disease.
Delicious looking dish for sure!! Great knife skills brother!! What a great suggestion sister Erin Uber--thank you!! I love love daikon prepared this way! I especially love adding this broth to my tororo. 😋
Mindy's Mom Thank you - this is one of my absolute favorites! I love eating this with rice. :-) It's so delicious. I'm glad you like it, too! I hope people will watch this video and try making it. It takes a little while to cook it, but it is not difficult. The result is worth it! It is very yummy! :-)
I saw a daikon at my grocery store and I had never seen one, I grabbed it without knowing anything about it. It came out sooo wonderful with your recipe, I made it as a little side for some salmon. So tasty! Thank yooouuu!
This video recipe made get in the car and drive down to the H-Mart and found the perfect (round, long and all the width even) daikon. I'll be cooking early tomorrow morning!
Five months later...Lol I finally tried your recipe but forgot it included mirin and it was still delicious, loved it. I will definitely make daikon part of my diet and try not to forget all the ingredients the next time. The dashi flavor was very good, thanks again for sharing and thanks again Erin Uber ☺
Hey you guys, thank you for posting this. It looks so good and very easy to make. I love daikon, and would enjoy this. My sister is a vegetarian, so I think I'll make this for her. Cheers! :)
I might have to actively look for daikon in my grocery store now. I've seen them stock it before, but now that you guys shared this recipe, I'm willing to give it a go!
I’m so happy watching your youtube chanel makes my japanese cooking more easier. by the way, where i can buy the instant dashi stock? i check your amazon account but nothing there. love you guys xoxo
Trying to explore cooking japanese food. Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful. I am excited to harvest my radish and will try these. My only worry is that my garden radishes are not these big. Will it still work?
Tabieats, your daikon reminds me of the time you were eating oden in the market. How about making kimchi Japanese style? To me, they taste better than the Korean one cause it's not too salty and not too spicy hot.
I would love to know other tasty ways to use daikon. I have a great big daikon and the only thing I know to do with it is this. It's a lovely side dish though! :)
Looks Delicious! I Imagine that in a stew it would be amazing. Take care and please say a prayer for my fellow Islanders(Puerto Rico) as well as for my family. Unfortunately we are in Hurricane Maria's path! XOXOX
This is Cat from Brooklyn NY! 🐱 I wanted someone to explain why when people subscribe they're not bothering to give them a thumbs-up! I know there are haters out there! I don't care about the thumbs-down! So come on guys let's get their thumbs up number into the thousands, hundred thousands, millions❣ Etc. Ect. Etc. Ect. !🐱
C "someone" DID explain it to you (myself) but you deleted your comment so mine would be as well 😂. But anyhow let my try again... It doesn't matter if every single fan/subscriber thumbs up (or DOWN) their videos. They will receive the money from ad revenue, view count as well as thumbs up AND down. Neither thumbs up or down matters because it just shows that someone (or even a bot) has visited their video. And therefore is credited in the youtube algorithm making it easier for potential new fans/subscribers to find their channel. So if this long drawn out explanation doesn't sink in for you now, then all hope is lost😢
BluefoxxyNautral84 This is Cat from Brooklyn NY! 🐱 Sorry I guess what I was trying to say was that the ratio whatever it was 1% to 10%, I don't remember, was pretty much the same for every channel or basically a lot of people watching the videos and subscribing but a few people actually giving it a thumbs up. And the end result that I wanted was simply for more people to give them a thumbs-up. So once again, how about a thumbs up for these wonderful RUclipsrs! THANKS for all your wonderful videos! Thank you for your info BluefoxxyNatural84 and sorry it was an accident that the comment was deleted! You can thank my cat for that! She likes to call people too! No catnip for her today! Diane S I was about to google if daikon has any nutrition but I was scrolling through the comments then I came to yours. Thank you!!! ❤️
I tried this recipe using a pressure cooker to lessen the time and its soooo easy and good. I make it all the time now.

How long did you simmer it for the second time?
Until the radish changes color to the light brown. Will be about 1 hour
