Thank you for a wonderful tour of this magnificent place... I loved learning about the history and having beautiful music 🎶 as well. I just found you on utube yesterday!!! Well done!!! A California Gramma ♥️
I’ve studied in France and travelled there several other times, but never managed to get down to Carcassonne. What a neat treat this was! Thanks very much!
When I first saw the castle I thought wow it looked like a fairy tale castle, then you explained conical roofs were placed there in the 19th century because that's what they imagined them to look like at that time. Makes perfect sense.
Yeah the romantic era. You gotta love it (they finally were interested in the middle ages) but they also did some weird stuff (tearing down abbeys as garden deco, restoring castles to 'how they should have looked like instead'). But Carcassonne is one of our absolute favorite destinations ever. We went two days in a row on our holiday there 😂
Absolutely terrific. Both the city and the castle itself are beautiful although my first thought on seeing the castle was that those conical roofs looked a bit "off".
The roofs are indeed an "invention" of the 19th century by the architect Viollet le Duc. It's a romantic representation of what a castle should look like. If you haven't seen our video from Pierrefonds, be sure to check that out too. Also restored by le Duc!
Yes, the entire site is quite phenomenal! Walking through the narrow streets really makes you feel like you've travelled back in time. Glad we share the love for Carcassonne 😁
Lucky you! It's an incredible site. Take the time to enjoy the beautiful restaurationwork of Viollet-le-Duc. It really is the closest you can get to feeling like you're actually in the middle ages 😁

Super episode. Great history.
Thank you so much 👍😁
This place is so huge and the view is amazing. I like that the city is still there and it's not only the castle that remains.

Well there's a reason why it's not. The monarchs weren't good to their people so they deposed him...

So this is what living in the middle ages would look like, huh?
It is a very romanticised version of what it would look like. Also there weren't as many cars.
@wesley we should try to dub and lip sync this in plat hollands :D
