What a great tour! I have never heard of Carcassonne and I can say that from your video it has been added to my bucket list. One of your best videos yet, please keep up the medieval content!
A lot of people haven't heard of Carcassonne but this fairytale-like city is full of amazing sites to explore. Definitely add it to your bucket list. Thanks for watching.
I'm glad I can show some of the cool places around the world, and don't worry one day you'll be able to get to some of them- and in the meantime stay tuned.
Thankyou for the vlog, really interesting. Carcassonne is my nearest town. I live just outside Mirepoix, which was built as a whole in the 13th century and is also a must go to cathar town in the region.
Yes it is one of my most favorite destinations in the world, I am, however, a bit of a medieval head though. Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions at all.
Carcassonne is about 50km from my village,I feel it has been over renovated approaching Disney esc. there are very little original features apart from a Roman tower.
JP, (1) Are there trail/road around the wall, to walk around the wall. (2) Are there public bus go from the new town to the wall. (3) For the OLD people, is it easy to climb and walk around on the top of the wall ? Thanks You, I never know Carcassone until watch you video, good job.
Thank you for your thoughtful questions, @2226robin. I'm glad the video introduced you to Carcassonne. Here's some information to assist with your inquiries: Walking Around the Wall: The medieval city of Carcassonne, known as La Cité, is encircled by approximately 3 kilometers of double-layered ramparts. Visitors can stroll along these walls, offering a unique perspective of the city's fortifications. However, the pathways can be uneven and involve steps, which might be challenging for some. Transportation from New Town to La Cité: Carcassonne's public transport system, operated by RTCA, provides several bus lines connecting the new town (La Bastide) to the medieval city. Specifically, Lines 2, 3, and 4 serve this route:Line 2: Stops at Général Leclerc - Cité Médiévale, approximately 500 meters from the Narbonne Gate, the main entrance to La Cité.Line 3: Stops at Cité Médiévale, about 150 meters from the Narbonne Gate.Line 4: Also serves the medieval city area. These buses operate from Monday to Saturday, 6:30 am to 9:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased on board for around €1.20. Grand Carcassonne Older Visitors: Navigating the ramparts involves uneven surfaces, steps, and some steep areas, which could be strenuous for older individuals or those with mobility concerns. However, much of the medieval city itself is accessible, with cobbled streets and various attractions at ground level. It's advisable to wear comfortable footwear and take breaks as needed. I hope this information helps in planning your visit to Carcassonne. If you have further questions or need more details, feel free to ask. What an amazing city to live near. It is an amazing medieval city teeming with history and beauty. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven’t already for more tours around France and the world.
hey will you be visiting carcassonne anytime soon? i was recently there and bought a bracelet but lost it yesterday. Sadly i cant find the shop on google maps and don’t remember the name so maybe you can keep an eye out for jewelry stores the next time you visit 😊
I remember going to an exhibit at a gallery of Dante cartoons and other medieval paintings with a Canadian colleague, and she was stunned when I told her what the paintings were saying. When I told her, people couldn't read, if they saw a picture, they had to marry it with what they heard the priest say in church - so the picture tells the story. After she got that point, she was reading the pictures properly and never had so much fun in a gallery before, but would definitely have fun afterwards! History should be fun! Beautiful place Almost makes me wish to renew my passport. Almost...
Yes it's difficult to imagine life in a world with a largely illiterate population or going to mass in latin, but you're right the pictures tell the story and make for a completely different experience. I'm glad you've enjoyed the video and thanks for watching.
Pro tip: If you're on a budget in France and don't want to pay for a fenced parking spot, set your GPS to point of interests: cemeteries, or administrations. The City of Carcassonne has both within walking distances, and by law French authorities have to make those free parking zones.
during the day it is often very hot and there are many tourists. if you do not have children or animals, I recommend visiting the castle in the evening. there are fewer tourists. The lighting emphasizes the medieval atmosphere. restaurants are open. very nice and comfortable. I also recommend visiting Carcassonne in the fall, for the above reasons.
"Thanks for the tip, Renzonio! That’s a great idea-'Cité de More' being featured in Call of Duty is sure to draw attention. Have you explored Carcassonne yourself, or are you a big fan of the game? I’d love to know what you think about the connection between gaming and real-world places like this!"
Your Title is completely wrong! Carcassonne was almost completely rebuilt in the 1920’s. You need to visit Cordes-sur-Ciel further north. Continuously occupied since the 13th century!
I've been to Cordes sur Ciel and Carcassonne. I must agree that Cordes is a more autenthic city than Carcassonne. Both are beautiful, but France has so many very nice medeavel cities. I can also recommend Rocamador, also in Southern France.
During my visit years ago, I was told that the pointed wooden roofs on the towers were not original. That they were added when the buildings were restored in the 1920’s to give a more romantic/fanciful look to the castle.
We live about 25 minutes away and we still never tire of visiting.

I live 45 minutes away from Carcassone, visited it countless times and I still love going there. Too bad the restaurants are kind of a scam now :(

Je vous recommande le Comte Roger ou la Table d'Alaïs, deux adresses qui valent qu'on s'y arrêtent si un jour vous repassez par là !

Add ''citedelle de more'' to your description /title you might get allot of extra views as Call of Duty is going to use this place as a zombie map :D

Try not to visit the Cité during summer holidays, coz the it is very crowded.
Yes I recommend visiting on the shoulder seasons. This was filmed in mid June. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching.
Medieval charm?
Right... 😹

Thanks for the info and some of the city is restored to maintain its former charm, but the bones are always strong and medieval.
En castellano por favor
Sorry but Carcasonne is not preserved but rebuilt by a 19th century architect. It is his vision we see now, not the 6th century build.
Actually there are many original parts still there!!
The best remade medieval city on Earth, you mean...
Not preserved. Rebuilt
Carcus zone lol! Ew Egypt! Ew
