The reason there were more than one master bedroom was because, back in the day you would have lived in the house with your parents.Sometimes even your grandparents.So you needed lots of bedrooms, especially if you had lots of children as well.That was probably my favorite place you have brought us so far.I just wish someone would fix it up but,it would definitely cost millions of dollars to do so.Can't wait to see what you bring us next and,as always we love you too guys.Be safe.

Back in the day the wealthy had their own bedroom, even married couples. Sharing a bed was for poor people who couldn't afford more space. Also, if it was used as a country retreat, for hunting parties for example, there would have been lots of guests.
It’s amazing that people spend lifetimes building up such wonderful houses, filling them with objects, memories, and love, only to have it all forgotten and abandoned. It’s beautiful and sad. What a fantastic video ♥️
Imagine the original owners still inhabit the place as ghosts, if so they're probably happy the house is still full of their favorite possessions & memories rather than being empty :)
A house or castle, each can be a prison if people cannot grow emotionally in them and lead fulfilled lives. You don't want to be a slave to the restoration of a place like this, if it means sacrificing your life. There's no movement there, everything is in a state of stasis. I grew up in the country and I can tell you nobody with youth and vitality wants to be isolated and waiting for something to happen. There is no point restoring without purpose, and what would be an economic basis for restoring this place? A hotel? Why would anyone stay there? Is it close to attractions? How much would restoration cost? So many unanswered questions. The reality is the world is constantly. moving towards greater urbanisation, and places like this would cost a fortune to restore let alone maintain and heat. Brrr! While it's charming to look at the craft skills of the builders and makers and the quaint things inside, living there would give me the absolute creeps, especially the ghostly entrance with those dead animals spookily staring into the air with those glass eyes. There is probably some kind of protection order on the place as well. Complicated to modernise and find a purpose for it.
That is one of the most amazing abandoned buildings I’ve ever seen. It’s sad to think it’s all just sitting there rotting, falling apart but also something beautiful and more fascinating because of its state of decay. Nothing lasts forever.
The curved device you called a “stamp” (25:40 mark), next to the ink well, is actually an ink blotter. When you get finished writing with the quill & ink, you’d roll the ink blotter over the writing to “blot” up any excessive wet ink that may still be on the paper to make it less messy/to avoid any ink blotches.
In the children's bedroom with the pink beds, on the desk, it's not "some sort of a stamp", it is a blotter. So, after you signed your name or whatever on something, you would blot up the excess ink by rolling that across it. Just thought you might be interested.

What appear to be "abandoned properties" are frequently long & drawn out inheritance disputes, with a court order to prevent all parties from disturbing the property. They can drag on for years on end, allowing "photo journalists" to trespass &/or loot
Lesley- I just love your documentaries. I have degrees in Anthropology, the study of humans, and it’s exactly what you do. On archaeological digs you dig and find artifacts and have to use imagination to see the families and people there and how they would have lived and used everything in their daily lives. You do this as well, I love when you say things like “I can see them here playing games by the fire” or “they would gather here for Christmas dinner then relax together as a family”. That’s what we do, use artifacts to tell their story. Tell the human experience through even mundane objects. And you truly respect the people who lived their and their possessions. I truly love your channel. You tell the human experience through these wonderful forgotten places. You’re an anthropologist at heart! ❤️

You went to the top floor, before you entered the red room with the beautifully carved bed you took a deep breath, my heart jumped out of my chest I was scared and didn't know what to expect. I was so into this video and then you open the window to peer out at the towers and the beautiful scenery there was a little fear there for me I'm afraid of heights. I absolutely love your videos! As a lady who does not get to travel much(to old and to poor), let alone be able to explore the kind of places that you do. As a history buff, it is thrilling to see these historic locations. I think that not all the bedrooms that had two singles beds next to each other are not all children's rooms. Back then Husband's and wife's slept in separate beds that would be in the same room. Also where the dried-up ink well was.....what you called a "stamp" of some type is actually called a "blotter". It was to bot(or soak up) the extra ink on the paper.

Amazing find! Looks completely untouched. Thats insane! Makes me wonder how many hidden compartments or secret pathways you didn't find. That place truly deserves to be a museum.
How to make video's like this: -Find abandoned place -Contact owner, get permission to enter (Of course don't mention it in the video) -Find some area with lots of trees, so that it seems that you really had a hard time to find/ enter it. -Before you film any room, rearrange furniture and stuff to make it look even cooler. -Act like you got discovered, run away and shake the camera a lot to enhance the panic feel. There you go, now you can make Urban exploration videos too! Lovely castle though! :)

Most abandoned places have graffiti and everything is smashed. I'm kinda confused at how "abandoned" this really is. There's things that are worth more than the structure and that makes no sense.

You could see on the way onto the property all the fields were mowed and the driveway was in use. There’d be full time grounds keepers and 24-7 security, there’s no way all that stuff including a rifle is just “abandoned” as you said.
What a fine castle. Just when I thought the lavender room was the loveliest and it was oh definitely, that bed, the vanity, the chaise lounge and matching chair:) then we were treated to the pink room in its matching accents. The last large bedroom, ivory colored I believe had a beautiful bed and vanity. The stained glass chandelier would look beautiful wherever it was placed. The tiny bathroom? Very mysterious:) so much to look at in wonderment, thank you so much for this elegant glimpse into your historic find.
Dude, I would pay an unbelievable amount of money for some of those taxidermy pieces from that castle. An extinct species of European wolf, shot in the mid 1800’s, and came from a French castle, are you kidding me? That would be the absolute crown jewel of any hunter/naturalist/biologist/historian collection. Unbeatable. Also, I believe that ivory piece from the table with the pictures of women and the music notes is actually a walrus tusk. Awesome.
Loved this one too. It’s so odd how some rooms are so untouched and looks so pristine and others are under decay. I pray they at least restore these beautiful furnishings and artifacts. Wow, nice place. I can't believe the country doesn't put them up for auction and give the new owner a restoration loan with low interest, the country can also sell off any of the antiques to pay off some of the back taxes or something. @@lechat8533 Exactly, as the explorers have said in the past, this happens sometimes due to the fact that family members can't afford the upkeep, the taxes or something so the homes are left to decay.
Someone probably owns it, and it's not abandoned. The fact it's just sitting there means nothing. If this was the US there's a good chance they would leak before leaving the home they broke into. Trespassers get shot.
the truth is, in europe there are so many buildings like this that they have to choose their battles, and normally only restore buildings thay have significant historical value. a building that was just owned by rich people is probably not high on the list. as americans, our country is so new that we look at something like this with awe, but the truth is there’s a assload of old houses dotting the european countrysides

If they are able to dump billions into Ukraine then such projects could be easily managed. But they are all too busy stuffing their own pockets. I believe, that`s the main problem.

When we climbed the stairs and went out through the window to the balcony, this view from the outside and the castle itself is simply magnificent. And the furniture can still be saved. I used to buy antique furniture for myself when funds allowed - and I want to say that all this can still be restored and create a chic museum of the past. It's a pity that no one cares. I wasn’t too keen on all the taxidermy, but I know they used to do that also as a show of wealth. They had a bunch of fawns though. That made me rather sick. And all the books such a waste. I can't believe those female French Country style bedrooms- never saw anything so beautiful! I remember there was one (or 2 in the bathroom you were unable to go into) claw foot bathtubs I want to back and re watch for- my favorite are the ancient bathrooms! Love the lilac bedroom 🥰💖 Of course, libraries are my favourite room...🤷🏼♀️ You promised to show us the family crest, yet it's blurred off ... 😣 In the white & red bedroom desk, is not a roller stamp, but an ink blotter, to dry out the writing before smudging it. I am old enough to have been taught to write 'longhand' in ink 🤦🏼♀️ I think the lady was a medical doctor, those instruments in the bedroom with single 2 beds, in the box on the desk there were an ampoule where an injectable solution were stored, and the huge cylinder was an ancient syringe....used huge needles too

How could you not show all the hidden library compartments?! I LOVED the exposed rock walls!!! Too bad you told us to look at the family crest...and then blurred it out?! The hunting room is truly distasteful. But the woodwork....the furniture....the chandeliers...FABULOUS!!! 20:51 is a field chair....you fold it and carry by the handle and when you get to the place you are going, you jam it in the ground and sit on it. 25:32 is an ink blotter to make sure page was dry before folding and putting in envelope. That purple bedroom is just beautiful!!! The chandelier above the bed looked like it could have been beautiful? 33:03 Those are garment protectors or storage, not dry cleaning. Those photo albums are a treasure!!! OMG that pink "other master bedroom" was STUNNING!!! Perfect music choice!!!

If no remaining family, the contents could be auctioned off with all proceeds going to a worthy cause, no billionaire foundation though..small local charities that would be really thankful for funds or to fund something well needed by the local communities
A place like this needs a full restoration and open to the public to keep places like this alive! It’s just so sad no one can afford to live in places like this anymore!
I'm only 18 minutes in to this video, HOLY MOLY SMOKES COW!! It seems criminal to me that this giant property full of priceless furniture and oddities is being lost to decay and time! I really hope that atleast a few handfuls of those things will be salvaged by someone? Those antique animal mounts are worth a small fortune. Not to mention what's hiding behind the walls in the many hidden places I'm sure one could find.... Thanks for taking us with you!!
I'm surprised that so many documents have been left there unattended. I bet there are a lot of stories that can be surmised by the documents alone. Pretty fascinating that you were able to film inside such an elaborate castle without much interference. I wish more old buildings and castles were as easily documented as this one. (P.S. Someone has saved this place and they intentionally made it this way so people can pay a fee then come and take tours threw the castle or mansion it is a very good money maker . Trust me this isn't abandoned.

I love the old typewriters so much. They’re difficult to find in good shape and even more difficult to try to maintain because it’s hard to find parts and harder to find someone who can work on them. 20:56 Is that a portable seat? You would fold up the top and carry it by what becomes handles, using it like a cane. When you want to sit you unfold it and you can rest on it. Your legs plus the ‘cane’ together becomes a three legged stool. That’s neat, I’ve never seen one before. 24:17 To the left, is that jade? In that opulent lilac bedroom you can see the how at the foot of the bed the pieces are two chairs and an upholstered table/bench seat. The linens on the bed must be absolutely magnificent, I would love to see those up close and look at thread count, lace, crochet and that sort of thing. Beautiful. Glad you didn’t go through the floor at the threshold of the bathroom, yikes! Those historical photo albums are amazing! Like you, I’d have loved to take them home to look at - and return them later. 😊 That beautiful red bedroom where you went outside is breathtaking! In the middle of the headboard of the bed at the top, that place is for a candle back when there were only lamps and candles. That bed was something else. I loved the view from out there, thanks for taking us out up top! What a view, and seeing the top of the roofs from right there at them - nice! I loved this estate. This was interesting, exquisite, marvelous and wonderful to see, thank you so much guys!

This is wonderful to see and extremely sad and thought provoking at the same moment. It leads the mind on so many paths, analyzing todays society and people's behavior compared with those times. Then I start thinking about how this should be a museum and the fact that we just let this rot is depressing. Then the collector in me is like wow there are some amazing pieces in there and I can only imagine the valuables left behind and ancient antiques. Then you start thinking about the architecture of the building itself, and the time and effort going into it. And then there's the hunting room, which leads so many thoughts in its own. =) Great video. Leaves you with a rare emotion afterwards of happy sadness.
I love historical castle and this castle is so beautiful, all the furniture in this place must be top quality because its still standing after all this year of abandoned , the place is very big I would get lost if I live in this place lol , got so many room, everything in this place are historical and very interesting, thank you for sharing

Servants generally slept in attic not basement. Basements were generally for all the services. They would have food storages, cold rooms, etc in the basements.
Clearly the property is owned by someone or an estate/trust whatever. But also obviously the mansion is in limbo-no one with the money or inclination to undertake the repair required to return it to its glory. Entirely possible too that the estate of the last owner still isn’t settled-with a large and complex estate without a proper or uncontested will (if that might be the case) then it could conceivably take decades to sort out. All the time this historical property and all the treasures within fall ever more into ruin-very sad.
The lilac color bedroom was color of my bedroom when I was a teen back in the early 70's Love the color and that ceiling light. If this castle was restored, it would make a fabulous bed and breakfast.
So much left unseen! There were doors to the towers in that 2nd master bedroom. Please open more doors and explore more! I bet there were secret rooms. I would have liked to see behind the fake books.
This guy frustrates me to no end, he walks right by doors, cabinets, those big metal cases, only opens one of the bookcase secret compartments, didn't notice a nice sized buddah I'm assuming was real jade... Lol. These vids are cool though but I would dig a lot deeper.

For everybody who don't understand: in 1980s, French Socialist government came to power and enforced taxes on property owners, which left Noble French Families without any financial incentive to keep these wonderful places. You pay taxes if you give the place to someone else, so obviously the only option is to abandon the place. I would have loved to inherit such place, but see the financial burden.
Absolutely fascinating to see such intact history. Reminds me somewhat of the game Amnesia: The dark descent... It's very nice to see your gentleness towards the artefacts end interiors of the castle, as well as hiding its location and family name. That way it may still stand some years into the future, at least we can hope.
I'd like to know what that property is worth, given that, whomever is holding it, would be willing to sell it. I think that if a several people (if necessary) got together to purchase it, it could be restored and made into an incredible tourist attraction. This can't be left to it's own devices any longer... Seriously. I'd happily spend the rest of my life working to restore it.
I dont live in europe but in america something like this will be owned by a holding company or the like sitting on the property has value. This house with multiple acreage could still be worth a million or more dollars
The problem is, this is France, there are hundreds of places like this all over the country, all competing for tourists. I doubt it would actually bring in enough money to pay for maintenance costs. I remember just recently hearing about another mansion like this is France, if anything more beautiful than this one, that was demolished for lack of a buyer.
@@Aethgeir prob cuz there are a ton of these estates located in the middle of nowhere since the nobility wanted to isolate themselves from dirty peasants. If people wanted to see something from the period like this, they'd prefer a proper palace in a clustered historical site, than a castle in the middle of nowhere.

The reason there were more than one master bedroom was because, back in the day you would have lived in the house with your parents.Sometimes even your grandparents.So you needed lots of bedrooms, especially if you had lots of children as well.That was probably my favorite place you have brought us so far.I just wish someone would fix it up but,it would definitely cost millions of dollars to do so.Can't wait to see what you bring us next and,as always we love you too guys.Be safe.

THE WEALTHY HAD SEPARATE BEDROOMS FOR HUSBANDS AND WIVES , USUALLY SIDE by side , close proximity for sensible reasons.
They also had many bedrooms because they often entertained guests, often for weeks.
Back in the day the wealthy had their own bedroom, even married couples. Sharing a bed was for poor people who couldn't afford more space. Also, if it was used as a country retreat, for hunting parties for example, there would have been lots of guests.
This gem of a home needs to be protected at all costs. Absolutely stunning.

Imagine the original owners still inhabit the place as ghosts, if so they're probably happy the house is still full of their favorite possessions & memories rather than being empty :)
A house or castle, each can be a prison if people cannot grow emotionally in them and lead fulfilled lives. You don't want to be a slave to the restoration of a place like this, if it means sacrificing your life. There's no movement there, everything is in a state of stasis. I grew up in the country and I can tell you nobody with youth and vitality wants to be isolated and waiting for something to happen.
There is no point restoring without purpose, and what would be an economic basis for restoring this place? A hotel? Why would anyone stay there? Is it close to attractions? How much would restoration cost?
So many unanswered questions. The reality is the world is constantly. moving towards greater urbanisation, and places like this would cost a fortune to restore let alone maintain and heat. Brrr!
While it's charming to look at the craft skills of the builders and makers and the quaint things inside, living there would give me the absolute creeps, especially the ghostly entrance with those dead animals spookily staring into the air with those glass eyes.
There is probably some kind of protection order on the place as well. Complicated to modernise and find a purpose for it.
That is one of the most amazing abandoned buildings I’ve ever seen. It’s sad to think it’s all just sitting there rotting, falling apart but also something beautiful and more fascinating because of its state of decay. Nothing lasts forever.
The curved device you called a “stamp” (25:40 mark), next to the ink well, is actually an ink blotter. When you get finished writing with the quill & ink, you’d roll the ink blotter over the writing to “blot” up any excessive wet ink that may still be on the paper to make it less messy/to avoid any ink blotches.

In the children's bedroom with the pink beds, on the desk, it's not "some sort of a stamp", it is a blotter. So, after you signed your name or whatever on something, you would blot up the excess ink by rolling that across it. Just thought you might be interested.

What appear to be "abandoned properties" are frequently long & drawn out inheritance disputes, with a court order to prevent all parties from disturbing the property. They can drag on for years on end, allowing "photo journalists" to trespass &/or loot
Lesley- I just love your documentaries. I have degrees in Anthropology, the study of humans, and it’s exactly what you do. On archaeological digs you dig and find artifacts and have to use imagination to see the families and people there and how they would have lived and used everything in their daily lives. You do this as well, I love when you say things like “I can see them here playing games by the fire” or “they would gather here for Christmas dinner then relax together as a family”. That’s what we do, use artifacts to tell their story. Tell the human experience through even mundane objects. And you truly respect the people who lived their and their possessions. I truly love your channel. You tell the human experience through these wonderful forgotten places. You’re an anthropologist at heart! ❤️

You went to the top floor, before you entered the red room with the beautifully carved bed you took a deep breath, my heart jumped out of my chest I was scared and didn't know what to expect. I was so into this video and then you open the window to peer out at the towers and the beautiful scenery there was a little fear there for me I'm afraid of heights. I absolutely love your videos! As a lady who does not get to travel much(to old and to poor), let alone be able to explore the kind of places that you do. As a history buff, it is thrilling to see these historic locations.
I think that not all the bedrooms that had two singles beds next to each other are not all children's rooms. Back then Husband's and wife's slept in separate beds that would be in the same room. Also where the dried-up ink well was.....what you called a "stamp" of some type is actually called a "blotter". It was to bot(or soak up) the extra ink on the paper.

How to make video's like this:
-Find abandoned place
-Contact owner, get permission to enter (Of course don't mention it in the video)
-Find some area with lots of trees, so that it seems that you really had a hard time to find/ enter it.
-Before you film any room, rearrange furniture and stuff to make it look even cooler.
-Act like you got discovered, run away and shake the camera a lot to enhance the panic feel.
There you go, now you can make Urban exploration videos too!

Most abandoned places have graffiti and everything is smashed.

@@andrewkaminskas7721 I’m guessing they got permission and possibly even payed the owners a fee to enter. You could see on the way onto the property all the fields were mowed and the driveway was in use.
There’d be full time grounds keepers and 24-7 security, there’s no way all that stuff including a rifle is just “abandoned” as you said.
What a fine castle. Just when I thought the lavender room was the loveliest and it was oh definitely, that bed, the vanity, the chaise lounge and matching chair:) then we were treated to the pink room in its matching accents. The last large bedroom, ivory colored I believe had a beautiful bed and vanity. The stained glass chandelier would look beautiful wherever it was placed. The tiny bathroom? Very mysterious:) so much to look at in wonderment, thank you so much for this elegant glimpse into your historic find.

Dude, I would pay an unbelievable amount of money for some of those taxidermy pieces from that castle. An extinct species of European wolf, shot in the mid 1800’s, and came from a French castle, are you kidding me? That would be the absolute crown jewel of any hunter/naturalist/biologist/historian collection. Unbeatable.
Also, I believe that ivory piece from the table with the pictures of women and the music notes is actually a walrus tusk. Awesome.
Loved this one too. It’s so odd how some rooms are so untouched and looks so pristine and others are under decay. I pray they at least restore these beautiful furnishings and artifacts. Wow, nice place. I can't believe the country doesn't put them up for auction and give the new owner a restoration loan with low interest, the country can also sell off any of the antiques to pay off some of the back taxes or something. @@lechat8533 Exactly, as the explorers have said in the past, this happens sometimes due to the fact that family members can't afford the upkeep, the taxes or something so the homes are left to decay.
Someone probably owns it, and it's not abandoned. The fact it's just sitting there means nothing. If this was the US there's a good chance they would leak before leaving the home they broke into. Trespassers get shot.
the truth is, in europe there are so many buildings like this that they have to choose their battles, and normally only restore buildings thay have significant historical value. a building that was just owned by rich people is probably not high on the list. as americans, our country is so new that we look at something like this with awe, but the truth is there’s a assload of old houses dotting the european countrysides

Yes, that`s true. But nevertheless, it`s all a question of preference. The governments could help if they wanted to. If they are able to dump billions into Ukraine then such projects could be easily managed. But they are all too busy stuffing their own pockets. I believe, that`s the main problem.

When we climbed the stairs and went out through the window to the balcony, this view from the outside and the castle itself is simply magnificent. And the furniture can still be saved. I used to buy antique furniture for myself when funds allowed - and I want to say that all this can still be restored and create a chic museum of the past. It's a pity that no one cares. In the white & red bedroom desk, is not a roller stamp, but an ink blotter, to dry out the writing before smudging it. I am old enough to have been taught to write 'longhand' in ink 🤦🏼♀️
I think the lady was a medical doctor, those instruments in the bedroom with single 2 beds, in the box on the desk there were an ampoule where an injectable solution were stored, and the huge cylinder was an ancient syringe....used huge needles too

Right? That plaster work… there aren’t craftsman that even do stuff like that anymore. If you see this in new places it’s all prefabricated. What a shame it’s crumbling from neglect!
How could you not show all the hidden library compartments?! I LOVED the exposed rock walls!!! Too bad you told us to look at the family crest...and then blurred it out?! The hunting room is truly distasteful. But the woodwork....the furniture....the chandeliers...FABULOUS!!! 20:51 is a field chair....you fold it and carry by the handle and when you get to the place you are going, you jam it in the ground and sit on it. 25:32 is an ink blotter to make sure page was dry before folding and putting in envelope. That purple bedroom is just beautiful!!! The chandelier above the bed looked like it could have been beautiful? 33:03 Those are garment protectors or storage, not dry cleaning. Those photo albums are a treasure!!! OMG that pink "other master bedroom" was STUNNING!!! Perfect music choice!!!

If no remaining family, the contents could be auctioned off with all proceeds going to a worthy cause, no billionaire foundation though..small local charities that would be really thankful for funds or to fund something well needed by the local communities

I'm only 18 minutes in to this video, HOLY MOLY SMOKES COW!! It seems criminal to me that this giant property full of priceless furniture and oddities is being lost to decay and time! I really hope that atleast a few handfuls of those things will be salvaged by someone? Those antique animal mounts are worth a small fortune. I'm surprised that so many documents have been left there unattended. I bet there are a lot of stories that can be surmised by the documents alone. Pretty fascinating that you were able to film inside such an elaborate castle without much interference. I wish more old buildings and castles were as easily documented as this one. (P.S. Someone has saved this place and they intentionally made it this way so people can pay a fee then come and take tours threw the castle or mansion it is a very good money maker . Trust me this isn't abandoned.
I really love this castle, glad you were able to filmed everything, those two bedroom were wow but sadly it look like it will never restored it’s beauty.

I love the old typewriters so much. They’re difficult to find in good shape and even more difficult to try to maintain because it’s hard to find parts and harder to find someone who can work on them.
20:56 Is that a portable seat? You would fold up the top and carry it by what becomes handles, using it like a cane. When you want to sit you unfold it and you can rest on it. Your legs plus the ‘cane’ together becomes a three legged stool. That’s neat, I’ve never seen one before.

In that opulent lilac bedroom you can see the how at the foot of the bed the pieces are two chairs and an upholstered table/bench seat. The linens on the bed must be absolutely magnificent, I would love to see those up close and look at thread count, lace, crochet and that sort of thing. Beautiful. Glad you didn’t go through the floor at the threshold of the bathroom, yikes!
Those historical photo albums are amazing! Like you, I’d have loved to take them home to look at - and return them later. 😊
That beautiful red bedroom where you went outside is breathtaking! In the middle of the headboard of the bed at the top, that place is for a candle back when there were only lamps and candles. That bed was something else. I loved the view from out there, thanks for taking us out up top! What a view, and seeing the top of the roofs from right there at them - nice!

Love you find places totally off the beaten path. Really could be forgotten and lost in time.
This is wonderful to see and extremely sad and thought provoking at the same moment. It leads the mind on so many paths, analyzing todays society and people's behavior compared with those times. Then I start thinking about how this should be a museum and the fact that we just let this rot is depressing. Then the collector in me is like wow there are some amazing pieces in there and I can only imagine the valuables left behind and ancient antiques. Then you start thinking about the architecture of the building itself, and the time and effort going into it. And then there's the hunting room, which leads so many thoughts in its own. =) Great video. Leaves you with a rare emotion afterwards of happy sadness.

I love historical castle and this castle is so beautiful, all the furniture in this place must be top quality because its still standing after all this year of abandoned , the place is very big I would get lost if I live in this place lol , got so many room, everything in this place are historical and very interesting, thank you for sharing

Servants generally slept in attic not basement. Basements were generally for all the services. They would have food storages, cold rooms, etc in the basements.
If it was truly abandoned, why are all the surrounding grounds well kept (mowed/cut down, not overgrowing)?
How bout the white steel garage doors at both ends of the trophy room?

Clearly the property is owned by someone or an estate/trust whatever. But also obviously the mansion is in limbo-no one with the money or inclination to undertake the repair required to return it to its glory. Entirely possible too that the estate of the last owner still isn’t settled-with a large and complex estate without a proper or uncontested will (if that might be the case) then it could conceivably take decades to sort out. All the time this historical property and all the treasures within fall ever more into ruin-very sad.

The lilac color bedroom was color of my bedroom when I was a teen back in the early 70's Love the color and that ceiling light. If this castle was restored, it would make a fabulous bed and breakfast.
So much left unseen! There were doors to the towers in that 2nd master bedroom. Please open more doors and explore more! I bet there were secret rooms. I would have liked to see behind the fake books.
This guy frustrates me to no end, he walks right by doors, cabinets, those big metal cases, only opens one of the bookcase secret compartments, didn't notice a nice sized buddah I'm assuming was real jade... Lol. These vids are cool though but I would dig a lot deeper.

For everybody who don't understand: in 1980s, French Socialist government came to power and enforced taxes on property owners, which left Noble French Families without any financial incentive to keep these wonderful places. You pay taxes if you give the place to someone else, so obviously the only option is to abandon the place. I would have loved to inherit such place, but see the financial burden.
Haha and you guys like to talk about USSR. At least they let the people in USSR in 1980 to privatize all their homes.

It's very nice to see your gentleness towards the artefacts end interiors of the castle, as well as hiding its location and family name. That way it may still stand some years into the future, at least we can hope.

I'd like to know what that property is worth, given that, whomever is holding it, would be willing to sell it. I think that if a several people (if necessary) got together to purchase it, it could be restored and made into an incredible tourist attraction.
This can't be left to it's own devices any longer... Seriously. I'd happily spend the rest of my life working to restore it.
I dont live in europe but in america something like this will be owned by a holding company or the like sitting on the property has value. This house with multiple acreage could still be worth a million or more dollars
The problem is, this is France, there are hundreds of places like this all over the country, all competing for tourists. I doubt it would actually bring in enough money to pay for maintenance costs. I remember just recently hearing about another mansion like this is France, if anything more beautiful than this one, that was demolished for lack of a buyer.
@@Aethgeir prob cuz there are a ton of these estates located in the middle of nowhere since the nobility wanted to isolate themselves from dirty peasants. If people wanted to see something from the period like this, they'd prefer a proper palace in a clustered historical site, than a castle in the middle of nowhere.
