In case anyone cares, the Dutch, German, and French version are all by the same singer. A Dutch singer/actor/writer, who invented the character for a children's musical and played a big part in writing the show, which was then animated in Japan. The original version is the Dutch version, as it was already part of the musical.

To be exactly the singer is Herman van Veen. Also the ending credits is also from him. As a Dutch a grew up with Alfred Judocus Kwak. As we called it. The title song is called "Spetter Pieter Pater", the credit song is called "Ik ben vandaag zo vrolijk".

Well, we know the original as being a Dutch version. For lingual purposes, that's probably the case. However, the cartoon series as a whole was a collabeoration between Dutch and German producers and Japanese animation and sound designers. If you search for this on the internet, you'll probably find more about this. My source for this is Wikipedia.
I would even doubt that the Dutch version was the only original version. I wouldn't be surprised if the German version was part of the deal as well. Herman van Veen, who sung this, also voice acted in both versions. So, it's likely that they were released within the same 'package'.

    • @dutchdykefinger
      @dutchdykefinger 4 года назад +5

as a dutch guy i used to watch a shti ton of english/american cartoons with just the subtitles,
this cartoon was an exception to the rule
although we had a lot of belgian caroons and some dubbed french cartoons too, like tintin and the such,
but they were deeply rooted in actual comic books, belgian/french/dutch culture has always been strong in cartoon books before they became tv shows,
we already had dutch transl, ations of the comic books long before TV was even relevant to the series
i could correct wrong english->dutch translation at 7 years old,
used to score well on both dutch and english , but since english was foreign, they would't be as tough on it, and i'd score straight 9s and 10s
always had a bit of a knack for linguistics, and my mom is dyslectic, so i remember correcting her Dtuch letters from the age of 7-8 too.
dubbing actually seems to be a detriment more than a benefit
young children can pick up language really easy, and it seems wasteful to me to squander that opportunity.
but that's just my 2 cents., and i have it easy since dutch and english are so closely related under the surface.

The Icelandic dub kind of amazes me. Iceland was still in big financial issues after the Iceland-Russian trade went to the trash, so most dubbed cartoons were done by the same 3-4 actors, but still the dub of this show wasnt that bad. They actually tried.

    • @A_A828
      @A_A828 2 года назад +3

Yeah, started crying while watching this actually. I watched this as a young kid in the Netherlands. Herman van Veen (the original vocalist of the Dutch version and writer of the character) was capable of already making me sad my childhood would come to an end sooner or later while I was still in the middle of it... I knew back then already that I had it good and that life would never be as nice as that again.
The early-mid 90s were a paradise for a child growing up in a loving family in a small Dutch town. Not a care in the world, besides the harrowing realization that the careless bliss had to end at some point. At least I was and still am grateful for the lovely childhood I was granted in the lottery of life. Now I'm getting older I just hope to pass on some of that bliss to my own children.
This song (and Herman van Veen's other works, too, for that matter) truly has a magical melancholic quality - it somehow made me realize all this even as a 5 year old, as if I had already lived my whole life. Kind of eerie but beautiful at the same time.

@@Bellesekai The series was first aired in Japan, but the soundtrack is much older. The original intro is “Spetter, Pieter, Pater” from 1978 (composed by Herman van Veen, Harry Sacksioni and Erik van der Wurff) and the outro is “Zo vrolijk” from 1986, however the outro uses the remix version of the song (“extra lange nieuwe re-mix”).
All the other songs and melodies from the soundtrack came from older productions like “Die seltsamen Abenteuer des Herman van Veen” from 1977 (Opzij/Weg da) or “21 van een kwartje” from 1975.

With my German ears I would state the following:
Arabic -> just as specifically as I expected it to be
Danish -> sounds even more weird than Dutch
Dutch -> very good, but sounds like some drunken man from the coast, as always :p
English -> didn't expected it to be so lame and dispassionate
Finnish -> never a good idea to let a kindergarten bunch sing something
French -> not bad at all, but the language doesn't seem to fit the rhyme scheme well
German -> I grew up to this, so it would be unfair to vote it. But Dutch accent ist always funny :D
Greek -> well sung, but a bit turned up
Hebrew -> like I've said, never a good idea to led children sing such songs
Hungarian -> ROFL!!! Is this even a language from earth? :D
Icelandic -> sounds typically Scandinavian to me
Japanese -> well made, but who decided an Anime-Loli-Seiyu should sing this???
Norwegian -> also very in tune with the Dutch original
Serbian -> WTF is this?! Does he just do 'balkan-rapping' over the song?? :P
Spanish -> im really astonished that it fits almost like the original!
Swedish -> Hahaha, this strange language is really related to German at all?
Polish -> Nahhh, i really won't conjure up old clichés now.........
Italian -> I could have bet they made a completely new song - catchy, but doesn't fit the dark setting
Korea -> Northern Korea, I guess?!

@@shadowfuse Correct, Herman van Veen hit a duck and a day later spotted a mother duck with ducklings in his backyard. This inspired him to create a musical, which eventually spawned the series. In the Dutch and German versions he's singing the opening and ending.
