For years I have been "following" this young man, who has already become a serious pianist. 5 Beethoven's Consert is very complicated. And Michael coped witg it. BRAVO!
Yes, understatement - or lack of histrionics - is a great role model for ANY musician. I guess it's astonishing for someone 13 years old to have gained such a sound sense of this, but then I was never a child virtuoso.
What a wonderful brilliant performance from this young man and also not forgetting the orchestra...... He is destined to reach great heights in the future... I look forward to hearing a lot more from Michael...Bravo..
I wonder if Beethoven could have imagined the Emperor being played two hundred years later by another young prodigy. Realizing that Michael's fingers are making the exact same movements on the keyboard that Beethoven's made when he first preformed it is eerie. By the same reasoning, if someone could similarly imitate the identical hand movements of, say, Leonardo Da vinci, they could repaint the Mona Lisa perfectly.
I have not had a favorite pianist since van Clyburn. Thank heavens I do believe I found him. I will follow this young man to the end of my days. If he ever plays in Seattle I Most definitely want to see him. The Emperor is an extremely hard piece to play and he has mastered it. He has a gift from heaven. I am so moved hearing him play. I think that God should be praised with music if he has such talent. Singing praises of how Jesus sets people free. Unless he is not a Christian though. Have you obeyed the Gospel by repenting and being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost as Acts 2 38 says.
The gift from God is the piece itself....and the genius was Beethoven. I never consider performers to be anything but talented....genius is an overused word in the classical music world.

I'm impressed. Soloist, 27 strings (12 violins, 8 violas, 4 cellos and 3 contra bass), the usual pairs of woodwind, 2 horns, 2 trumpets and timp. Well balanced sound. Though, tempos are just a little slugglish at times, but it works, specially in the second movement. This young man is very fluent and relaxed and plays with ease. The transition from the 2nd to the 3rd movement is wonderful. And then the fire works begin! Brilliant performance. When he matures, he will be a monster of a player.
Inspiring to see this boy/young man with so much composure & talent sitting unfazed before a full orchestra & public & giving his best. No Rubenstein yet, but give him time. Beautiful viewing !
I agree. I was lucky enough to hear Rubenstein, Horowitz, and Watt all play the Emperor at different time in my life. It is, in my opinion, the greatest concerto written for the piano. Others offer more technical difficulty (Rachmaninoff's 3rd, for example) but the Emperor offers the ability to draw on the deepest emotional drives of humanity. Andreas has the potential to be as good if not better. His technique is astounding. He is just too young to have experienced some of the range of emotions fully, and synthesized them into his playing. I plan to see him at every opportunity if he makes it to the US West Coast.

vesteel Before saying anything about prodigies, hold your breath. Not all of them are alike - go find Adrian Romoff , on UTube, you'll be smitten at his overall geniality. At 12, he is a sophomore at the University, majoring in physics, math, chemistry and such, he speaks fluent English, Russian, French (answering serious questions at conferences). He plays sports, plays chess with top grosmeisters, he does all on the top level. And - he plays piano, gives from time to time solo concerts with the orchestra at Carnegie and other halls! And does all this deep things with maturity, humbleness and great attitude of respect. His omnipresent (in the background) and beloved mother - a Russian woman, single mother, raising him in the US, wrote a book about raising a genius. Get yourself a pleasure, and also read his corresponding with all who writes to him, replies to videos. You'll find him a great person, as well!
He is the great, great , great grandson of Franz Liszt! He really must have inherited the talent of his great, great, great Grandfather. Amazing good performance.
