Jak and Daxter. They in my opinion are one of the coolest characters ever created, Im a massive fan of their games. And it just saddens me to see all these great platformers comeback to life, but Jak and Dax are the only ones left behind, cause hey we need another last of us remake... Naughty dog literally had the chance to start develompent on a new entry in the series. Im just sad that they don't get any love, but I'm happy that the Jak and Daxter series happened!
Personally, I'm a lot less convinced on the success of Jak returning for a variety of reasons. Firstly, Naughty Dog themselves have spoken why Jak was never as popular as its predecessor Crash, or its successors Uncharted and TLOU. They "threw the kitchen sink at Jak" in terms of design. His aesthetic was a mix of Western Animation and Anime that didn't really stand out in either market like Crash did. And starting from Jak 2, the gameplay had open world carjacking from GTA3, gunplay from Ratchet and Clank, hoverboarding based on Tony Hawk etc. A consequence of this approach meant that none of its individual systems were as fleshed out as the games it was emulating. Its open world sandbox wasn't as dynamic or emergent as GTA 3. Its shooting wasn't as deep as Ratchet's. And its hoverboarding sections were quite few and far between. This also diluted the time you spend platforming. So it becomes harder for a fan of GTA, Ratchet or Tony Hawk to really get into the Jak games like they would their other games. Essentially, the Jak games often struggled with their own identity, trying to be any game other than themselves. This made it harder for them to stick in the public conciousness. Secondly, this makes it hard to continue the series in a satisfying way especially all this time later. For one, the best selling game in the Jak series is still Jak 1. It outsold both Jak 2 and 3 combined. If you make a new Jak game, do you model it after Jak 1? If so, you upset the Jak 2 and 3 fans waiting for "their game" or a continuation of Jak. If you model it like Jak 2 and 3 as this collection of disparate gameplay styles trying to be fit together, you'd have to both essentially design the gameplay for 3-4 other games in a satisfying way into a single game. You can't get by anymore with the basics anymore. Like, it's hard to go back to GTA3 with its terrible shooting controls. So a follow up to Jak 2 and 3 would need both great shooting controls, and great open world systems, and great systems for guns, hoverboarding etc. And then you'd have to sell this game. Which is even harder. Most modern Naughty Dog fans and gamers in general would likely be turned off by the lack of focus. And the built in Jak 2 and 3 fanbase isn't exactly massive enough to carry the game. If you scrap everything and opt for a more realistic style to "modernize" the series, well, you upset both the old fans, and have no guarantee new fans would replace them given how wacky Jak still is.
@@FraserSouris They would just need to Make New Vehiclesk( Maybe even a Eco Jet, Eco Glider, Etc in the Dream i saw Jak 4 in Where he was in His Jak x Appearance he was talking to Samos in Forbidden Jungle) For Jak to Use( Ironically The Vehicle Controls Improved in Jak 3 and Jak X) , New Weapons and Maybe New Mechanics and Ironically They can use the Jak X Areas for more Areas to Explore( Kras City , Docks Areas and Also the Areas that were in Jak 1 but Returned in Jak x as well( Forbidden Jungle, Ice Citadel Etc).

PS2 then PS3 era was turbo edgy and that was AMAZING. we can even quote how zelda went from wind waker to twilight princess in like..less than 3 years? and nailed it. jak 2-3 also nailed it, even tho.... that fluorescent green grass from sandover village is printed onto my brain
Thinking about it Jak 1 was kind of the last really good new ip collectathon for a long time of about 15 years the genre kinda died and got revived around 2016-2017 with numerous games like a hat in time and yooka laylee. Also something to note the main trilogy literally grew up as did jak Jak 1: Optimistic colourful hopeful like a child Jak 2: Dark gritty somewhat pessimistic like a dark brooding teen Jak 3: A bit optimistic some colour growing out of the dark phase like an adult.
still remember beating Jak 3 as an 8 year old in 2005. That game was hard as fuck (at least compared to Ratchet and Clank). Never managed to beat Jak 2.
It’s also interesting because they have Jak as one of the few PlayStation profile pictures you can choose in the last decade. Hundreds of thousands of people have Jak profile pictures. They treat it like some sort of distant ancestor instead if giving it the revival and respect it deserves.
BIt’s hard for me to talk about Jak as a whole without getting gushy or using flowery language on all the little ways it’s sticks out as one-of-a-kind in the realm of artistic creation, On top of being a good example & learning experience of intuition & experimentation with game design paying off. It’s a shame this I.p. Has somewhat fell into semi-obscurity, given how allot of games today owe it’s influence. It May or may not be on par with something like System Shock or Half-life, but it’s a big / memorable cornerstone for sure.
I was around like 10 years old when I played it. Mostly Jak 2. Messing around in the city, annoying the crimson guards. Got excited completing missions. Feeling like a loser not being able to pass a city holographic border wall, then thrilled once I unlocked the walls. Dealing with those annoying scorpions in certain missions. You name it.
What if Jak was Never Captured After he Just Arrived in Haven City in the Jak 2 Opening? He and Daxter Arrived in front of the Underground Headquarters
What if Jak reconsidered the offer from the precursors at the end of Jak 3 to explore the universe? He ends up learning more about the Dark Makers, where they came from, and finds out about some evil plan they came up with.

There is an issue with naughty dog making jak 4 and that is the genres they make now like uncharted and the last of us. They aren't used to cartoony games any more but I think insomniac would be better at making the next jak game
I had a demo disc with Jak and Daxter on it and it was my favorite on the disc Then I got Jak II and to this day it ranks among my top of all time! Along with 007 Nightfire and Tony Hawk Pro Skater (1/2/THUG2)
Ngl if they would make a spin-off game focusing on the Freedom League's expansion out into newer frontiers in a Tropico inspired way just with also having to fight off their enemies including newer rebel cults that could spring up to resist the FL then I would totally buy it because I've always wanted to build cities and command armies in Jak and Dexter's world. 💜
Naughty dog should’ve gone to insomniac games in the earlier years to help develop a sequel for the jak and daxter series, would’ve been cool to see insom’s take on the series
Trust me, you do NOT want the Naughty Dog of today to make a Jak & Daxter entry. They have no passion or interest in working on projects of that genre. This isn’t even touching upon the politics that are being pushed and how the vast majority of talent left the studio during development of TLoU2. I’d wager that today’s Naughty Dog would make a Jak entry worse than The Lost Frontier, especially if Neil Druckmann leads the project.
We need a God of war 2018 level game to drop for Jak, he deserves it. Honestly I can see a real mature story about PTSD, identity, and loss; in his cartoonish world would be fantastic.
Top of my head here's the plot: Jak accidentally kills Kiara while sleeping together because of dark jak, disappears for ten year (which is hundreds cause time travel) to join the precursors in their war with the dark makers. And shows back up when Daxters is about to be killed as an old enemy returns. BOOM engagement, intrigue, character development.
Well said. I just hope they don't miss the mark, when they inevitably do revisit the series. Or whoever ends up doing it. That steampunk look would've dated the game, badly.. versus, I don't know, incredible ancient precursor architecture?!
The next part of Jaks story is pretty obvious to me, he would be curious about his legacy, how does Jak become Mar the founder of haven city? Does he go back in time again? Fight a certain dark ego duo? slowly building the beginnings of haven city would be a cool thing on the side, kinda like Tarrey town from breath of the wild.
Oh snap and I just thought how you could do it and still have the future haven city, the precursors give Jak a time portal power which would have the player go back and forth in time to find new portals to progress. Gol could invade the future while Maia threatens the past.
There was a bad sequel, ND tried making another one but by some miracled didnt feel like the "realistic" looking stuff they were making concepts of didnt fit the tone and we havent heard from them since. Its been quiet over many years and its been pretty good seeing as how we now have a fanmade PC version of Precursor Legacy and by the sound of it more on the way. Lets hope ND doesnt enter the equation any time soon.

Insomniac ruined Ratchet and Clank. Naughty Dog knows how to take care of his franchises and they know when they should end before their essence is lost.
You know what really sucks Is you know you're growing old when you realize that Jack and Dexter the precursor legacy It's kind of ironically named because it literally is a different game and it is the The legendary legacy precursor it is the precursor for all of the games to come after in the series which would be 2 , 3 and X In of course the PSP side campaign Dexter , AKA the legacy of Jack and Dexter.
I would love another jak game I'm a 90s kid I played all 6 games even though high-impact games did the last game not that bad because they left open for another opening because they discovered outside worlds with the ecosource which also can be available to show more less where the precursors came from but it's sad that it's been over a decade to not see another game in this franchise all them do tie together even though Jack x and Jak and daxter the Lost frontier just turn it into an even bigger and bigger story to build off of I'll let you know that there was more than just one city in the wasteland in this world so hopefully the next chapter can be written
I think a Jak 4 game with a visual style like the Rachet and Clank riff apart (with that cartoonish visuals but detailed as hell) would fit pretty damn well with the franchise. They should take like base exploring the beyonds of the city and the wasteland, like... why is there no other Civilizations? Or something like that idk. Maybe exploring the universe... All i know is that it should be refreshing, but still having parts of the classical maps, I want to explore a new version of the city in Jak 4.
There's multiple and multiple playthroughs, retrospectives, reviews and even a few speed runs on RUclips with hundreds of thousands of views. In no way shape or form is Jak and Daxter forgotten.
Jak & Daxter in 2023 would be the definition of blockbuster though. Open-world action adventure with flying cars, dune buggies and morphing guns!! But I get what you mean. Sadly, Naughty Dog are in fact way past making fun games. Hehe sorry I had to do it 😅✌
I have been waiting for so looooong by now... When the PS4 came out in 2013 I have hoped for a revival and a remake of the franchise... and kept an eye out for many years... I hate that its not getting revived...
If they would remaster Jak&Daxter I would go get a PlayStation just for this game. This is my favorite game of all time, this video brought back so many memories.

I dunno how many hours i drove around in Jack2. Never played any sequels or or whatever after that. Would be fun with either a remake of the first 2 or a new sequel to the series!
I also spent an insane amount of time in Haven City haha! But yeah, I would go crazy for a remake or a straight-up Jak 4. With the rumored movie adaptation on the horizon, maybe the franchise isn't dead after all :)

with the grittier tone shift, i wish it was more gradual, and with the “haha whacky ending go brr” of three yanking that tone right back, it felt jarring. as an adult, i would like more of the light hearted jak 1, but as someone who loves morbid fantasy i would ALSO love more edgy haven city... its a strange feeling wanting both sides... daxter on the psp is my favourite in the franchise, it managed to hit the sweet spot of funny and dark at the same time. ofc it did, the story managed to cement itself and be mature, not mature as in adult but the story itself wasnt young
The sales figures say it all, the tone shift was one of the biggest mistakes in gaming history. Jak 2, Jak 3 and Jak X Racing combined sold less then Jak and Daxter, and was objectively Naughty Dog's biggest mistake until TLOU 2 destroyed the studio's reputation on top of not selling enough to break even leaving them in their current status of having an uncertain future as they keep rereleasing TLOU 1 and 2 to try and recoup the game's development costs.
the first one was felix the cat on the nes then mario world on the snes but my real first gaming gem i played was jak 1 & ratchet & clank 2 i played sly cooper 1,2&3 & kingdom hearts everything until 3ds when i was 27 so 3 years ago the sly cooper trilogy is good

Thanks :) I would go either two ways. My dream game would be to see an older Jak in his quest to become Mar to complete the time loop started in Jak 2. Which would involve the creation of The Heart of Mar (the time travelling artifact he created) and the foundation of Haven City in the past. But since it would most likely be way too hard to explain all the back story in one game, I also wouldn't mind a completely fresh start with Jak & Daxter moving on a new planet, with new lore, etc.
According to the OG devs, they tried to continue the story, but they couldn't. Everytime they faced big obstacle on how to proceed to the next step. So, in order to preserve the legacy and not ruin the game, they stopped trying to continue the story.
The tonal shift with Jak 2 was for the worst, Jak 2, Jak 3 and Jak X Racing combined sold less then Jak and Daxter did, selling so poorly in Japan that Jak 3 would only come to Japan with a digital only release on the PS3 with only a subtitle option. As much as some fans like it the facts show that it was the wrong call with how disastrous it sold compared to the first entry.
I would not be the same man without Jak 2 and 3, so my love for these games will never falter. However, I'm willing to bet that if these games came out in today's gaming landscape, Jak 2 and 3 would crush Precursor Legacy sales wise. So I do believe this is the formula they would follow if they were to make a Jak 4.

I remember playing JakX, the story was weak and dull, tons of farming but the game was fun enough for 12yearolds. Didn't know they made Daxter so Imma go ahead and try that
@@MichaelFromTheAttic Daxter was made by a studio called Ready at Dawn (their first game too). However naughty dog let them borrow some existing assets. The game does a good job feeling like it belongs. Jak X is a great time. If you can survive the learning curve, it may be one of the best racing/combat games out there. The story ain’t bad for a racing game either - the cast gets good interactions and kree gets a posthumous send if (of “sorts”.)
It wasn't forgotten, they were done with Jak and moved on just like they did with Crash. They shouldn't make a sequel to Jak because most of the people who worked on it 20 years ago aren't a part ofnaughty dog anymore, it would be completely different. They should make a new IP since they've been doing nothing but Uncharted and TLoU for 3 console generations.
Should there every be a 4th game, here are the things I want done so it can fix the franchise and make it golden again. 1. Kill off the green hair girl and have Jack end up with the sexy goth punk princess. She is better than her. 2. Make the Precursors become one of the main villains since they are pretty much idiots, only a threat due to their technology which they could have stolen from another advanced race, and remind me of the lazy Roman nobles that brought Rome to its doom. 3. Have the Dark Makers remain as eldritch abominations, but show them in a morally grey way which gives Jak a choice between destroying them and all dark eco, which the precursors themselves want, or spare them and make a balance to both energies. 4. Turn Dexter’s girlfriend back into an elf human again. The way they turned her into a furry animal like dexter was cringe and it ruined the romance between her and Dexter. Aren’t interspecies relationships much more interesting?! 5. Maybe put in space exploration as a teaser in a future game and have Jak explore the world in the 4th game. Also, reveal what happened to the old village island in the first game and bring back the 1st villains, they definitely have potential and this could lead to the reveal of a conspiracy where the precursors ruined Jak’s life and kidnapped his mother since she had a more in tune ability to eco and they wanted it for themselves so they made Jak the “chosen one” to do all the dirty work and fix all the problems they caused. So, what do you guys think?

I am a huge fan of jak and daxter. Yes I was disappointed with the lost frontier, the combat was off, among other things, it lack the polish the original 3 had, however jak x combat racing is one of my favorite combat based race games, it and 3 are the two I played the most. The only issue I see now with making a new game is, how they proceed. Mar from the past is jak, but now mention of daxter was made, did he stay in the world of jak 3 with Tess, while jak went far back into the past? There is enough lore scattered that easily hints at the possibility of a continuation.... But what could they throw at him? My thought is if they made another game, it would probably involve jak helping the precursors banish the original dark precursors in the past, while he became mar told of in the future who built the catacombs and such..... But who knows.
Maybe a reboot would be the best option, since Naughtydog seem to have a problem with "what they want to do." Maybe with a reboot they can fix the plot holes in their writing for Jak & Dax and, at the same time, "do what they want to do" in terms of the game's design.
I'd hardly call this franchise a "forgotten" gem considering you can still pick up these games on the PS4/PS5 store digitally and it's one of Playstation's most recognisable franchises even to people who don't even play Playstation.
Oh yeah it's definitely not forgotten by gamers :) what I mean when I say forgotten is that it's been left in the dust by the industry and by Naughty Dog, compared to pretty much every single other Playstation mascots. Crash, Spyro, Kratos and now Sly (apparently) are still doing good.
i'll tell you what, Jak shaped my life so much that I started working out to be ripped like Jak, I started Parkour/Freerunning in 2005, I went on to teach it across the world and to this day, whenever I jump off something I land the way Jak does.
Jak and Daxter ws the the first video game I ever owned.. I got a Ps2 and Jak n daxter shortly after it was released for Christmas in 5th grade.. greatest game series in my mind..
Jak and Daxter created an universe that inspires me until today. The dystopic scenarios, the Dark Makers, Metal Heads, the mines, deserts and mountains.... It's way beyond it's time.
As much as I want new Jak and Daxter game, I'd rather it be developed as far away from current day Naughty Dog as possible. Insomniac would do great job with J&D IP as they've showed with last Ratchet and Clank.

new to jak and daxter already in love with the lore, world and music and how jak moves it's so satisfying. I feel like the jak and daxter fandom has been ressurected since the first game was ported to pc.
It felt so refreshing to see the most significant video game franchise of my childhood getting such a caring face lift. As a kid I played all of these games, and I never stopped. To this day, over 20 years later, they remain my favorites and I still replay them about once a year, sometimes more frequently. You said it perfectly, it feels like the series is being resurrected as we speak. But by fans this time rather than developers.

Naughty dog literally had the chance to start develompent on a new entry in the series. Im just sad that they don't get any love, but I'm happy that the Jak and Daxter series happened!
I wish we Had a Jak And Daxter Remake( The Closest is the PC Jak and Daxter 4k Version).
Personally, I'm a lot less convinced on the success of Jak returning for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, Naughty Dog themselves have spoken why Jak was never as popular as its predecessor Crash, or its successors Uncharted and TLOU. They "threw the kitchen sink at Jak" in terms of design. His aesthetic was a mix of Western Animation and Anime that didn't really stand out in either market like Crash did. And starting from Jak 2, the gameplay had open world carjacking from GTA3, gunplay from Ratchet and Clank, hoverboarding based on Tony Hawk etc. A consequence of this approach meant that none of its individual systems were as fleshed out as the games it was emulating. Its open world sandbox wasn't as dynamic or emergent as GTA 3. Its shooting wasn't as deep as Ratchet's. And its hoverboarding sections were quite few and far between. This also diluted the time you spend platforming. So it becomes harder for a fan of GTA, Ratchet or Tony Hawk to really get into the Jak games like they would their other games. Essentially, the Jak games often struggled with their own identity, trying to be any game other than themselves. This made it harder for them to stick in the public conciousness.
Secondly, this makes it hard to continue the series in a satisfying way especially all this time later.
For one, the best selling game in the Jak series is still Jak 1. It outsold both Jak 2 and 3 combined. If you make a new Jak game, do you model it after Jak 1? If so, you upset the Jak 2 and 3 fans waiting for "their game" or a continuation of Jak. If you model it like Jak 2 and 3 as this collection of disparate gameplay styles trying to be fit together, you'd have to both essentially design the gameplay for 3-4 other games in a satisfying way into a single game. You can't get by anymore with the basics anymore. Like, it's hard to go back to GTA3 with its terrible shooting controls. So a follow up to Jak 2 and 3 would need both great shooting controls, and great open world systems, and great systems for guns, hoverboarding etc. And then you'd have to sell this game. Which is even harder. Most modern Naughty Dog fans and gamers in general would likely be turned off by the lack of focus. And the built in Jak 2 and 3 fanbase isn't exactly massive enough to carry the game.
If you scrap everything and opt for a more realistic style to "modernize" the series, well, you upset both the old fans, and have no guarantee new fans would replace them given how wacky Jak still is.
@@FraserSouris They would just need to Make New Vehiclesk( Maybe even a Eco Jet, Eco Glider, Etc in the Dream i saw Jak 4 in Where he was in His Jak x Appearance he was talking to Samos in Forbidden Jungle) For Jak to Use( Ironically The Vehicle Controls Improved in Jak 3 and Jak X) , New Weapons and Maybe New Mechanics and Ironically They can use the Jak X Areas for more Areas to Explore( Kras City , Docks Areas and Also the Areas that were in Jak 1 but Returned in Jak x as well( Forbidden Jungle, Ice Citadel Etc).

Hopefully with this recent running Native on PC project enough people start to generate hype about it and it gets Naughty Dog thinking
Jak and Daxter is my favorite series as well, the trilogy and extra games were great, but a comeback would suffice.
The amount of hype I got when I saw Naughty Dog take to the stage at summer of gaming only to have them show off last of us again...

PS2 then PS3 era was turbo edgy and that was AMAZING. we can even quote how zelda went from wind waker to twilight princess in like..less than 3 years? and nailed it. jak 2-3 also nailed it, even tho.... that fluorescent green grass from sandover village is printed onto my brain
Thinking about it Jak 1 was kind of the last really good new ip collectathon for a long time of about 15 years the genre kinda died and got revived around 2016-2017 with numerous games like a hat in time and yooka laylee.
Also something to note the main trilogy literally grew up as did jak
Jak 1: Optimistic colourful hopeful like a child
Jak 2: Dark gritty somewhat pessimistic like a dark brooding teen
Jak 3: A bit optimistic some colour growing out of the dark phase like an adult.

still remember beating Jak 3 as an 8 year old in 2005. That game was hard as fuck (at least compared to Ratchet and Clank). Never managed to beat Jak 2.

It’s also interesting because they have Jak as one of the few PlayStation profile pictures you can choose in the last decade. Hundreds of thousands of people have Jak profile pictures. They treat it like some sort of distant ancestor instead if giving it the revival and respect it deserves.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is the videogame equivalent of comfort food
BIt’s hard for me to talk about Jak as a whole without getting gushy or using flowery language on all the little ways it’s sticks out as one-of-a-kind in the realm of artistic creation,
On top of being a good example & learning experience of intuition & experimentation with game design paying off.
It’s a shame this I.p. Has somewhat fell into semi-obscurity, given how allot of games today owe it’s influence. It May or may not be on par with something like System Shock or Half-life, but it’s a big / memorable cornerstone for sure.
I was around like 10 years old when I played it. Mostly Jak 2. Messing around in the city, annoying the crimson guards. Got excited completing missions. Feeling like a loser not being able to pass a city holographic border wall, then thrilled once I unlocked the walls. Dealing with those annoying scorpions in certain missions. You name it.
Maybe a Jak offspring? Or how Jak was before the time travel or if that never happened? So many possibilities!
What if Jak was Never Captured After he Just Arrived in Haven City in the Jak 2 Opening? He and Daxter Arrived in front of the Underground Headquarters
What if Jak reconsidered the offer from the precursors at the end of Jak 3 to explore the universe? He ends up learning more about the Dark Makers, where they came from, and finds out about some evil plan they came up with.

Did you know there's a "Kingdom Hearts" fanfic focused on Roxas, in which one of the worlds he visits is this one ? It's called "The Twilight Will".
I always loved the models on the Jak 3 Cover, they should do that but make environments photorealistic, it would feel perfect in my eyes.

We want Jak 4!!!🗣🗣 I think insomniac games should take over the franchise if naughty dog won’t do it. They used the composer “Mark Mothersbaugh” from the original Jak and Daxter, in the new ratchet and clank game.

There is an issue with naughty dog making jak 4 and that is the genres they make now like uncharted and the last of us.
They aren't used to cartoony games any more but I think insomniac would be better at making the next jak game
Stylization in games has been getting a comeback of sorts in recent years so there is a possibility that Naughty Dog would come back to that again
I had a demo disc with Jak and Daxter on it and it was my favorite on the disc
Then I got Jak II and to this day it ranks among my top of all time!

Trust me, you do NOT want the Naughty Dog of today to make a Jak & Daxter entry. They have no passion or interest in working on projects of that genre. This isn’t even touching upon the politics that are being pushed and how the vast majority of talent left the studio during development of TLoU2.
I’d wager that today’s Naughty Dog would make a Jak entry worse than The Lost Frontier, especially if Neil Druckmann leads the project.

Honestly I can see a real mature story about PTSD, identity, and loss; in his cartoonish world would be fantastic.
Top of my head here's the plot:
Jak accidentally kills Kiara while sleeping together because of dark jak, disappears for ten year (which is hundreds cause time travel) to join the precursors in their war with the dark makers. And shows back up when Daxters is about to be killed as an old enemy returns.
BOOM engagement, intrigue, character development.

The next part of Jaks story is pretty obvious to me, he would be curious about his legacy, how does Jak become Mar the founder of haven city? Does he go back in time again? Fight a certain dark ego duo?
slowly building the beginnings of haven city would be a cool thing on the side, kinda like Tarrey town from breath of the wild.
Oh snap and I just thought how you could do it and still have the future haven city, the precursors give Jak a time portal power which would have the player go back and forth in time to find new portals to progress.
Gol could invade the future while Maia threatens the past.

There was a bad sequel, ND tried making another one but by some miracled didnt feel like the "realistic" looking stuff they were making concepts of didnt fit the tone and we havent heard from them since. Its been quiet over many years and its been pretty good seeing as how we now have a fanmade PC version of Precursor Legacy and by the sound of it more on the way. Lets hope ND doesnt enter the equation any time soon.

You know what really sucks Is you know you're growing old when you realize that Jack and Dexter the precursor legacy It's kind of ironically named because it literally is a different game and it is the The legendary legacy precursor it is the precursor for all of the games to come after in the series which would be 2 , 3 and X In of course the PSP side campaign Dexter , AKA the legacy of Jack and Dexter.
I would love another jak game I'm a 90s kid I played all 6 games even though high-impact games did the last game not that bad because they left open for another opening because they discovered outside worlds with the ecosource which also can be available to show more less where the precursors came from but it's sad that it's been over a decade to not see another game in this franchise all them do tie together even though Jack x and Jak and daxter the Lost frontier just turn it into an even bigger and bigger story to build off of I'll let you know that there was more than just one city in the wasteland in this world so hopefully the next chapter can be written

I think a Jak 4 game with a visual style like the Rachet and Clank riff apart (with that cartoonish visuals but detailed as hell) would fit pretty damn well with the franchise. They should take like base exploring the beyonds of the city and the wasteland, like... why is there no other Civilizations? Or something like that idk. Maybe exploring the universe... All i know is that it should be refreshing, but still having parts of the classical maps, I want to explore a new version of the city in Jak 4.

Naughty Dog is way past these times, it would be a miracle if they would not do another blockbuster game as their next one.
Jak & Daxter in 2023 would be the definition of blockbuster though. Open-world action adventure with flying cars, dune buggies and morphing guns!!

I have been waiting for so looooong by now... When the PS4 came out in 2013 I have hoped for a revival and a remake of the franchise... and kept an eye out for many years... I hate that its not getting revived...

I also spent an insane amount of time in Haven City haha! But yeah, I would go crazy for a remake or a straight-up Jak 4. With the rumored movie adaptation on the horizon, maybe the franchise isn't dead after all :)

@@thelegendoflink9140 I think so! The new PS plus, that might be a good place to play. Obviously, the best way to play these games now is clearly the HD PS3 collection, but the PS4 version is decent (despite some flaws)
with the grittier tone shift, i wish it was more gradual, and with the “haha whacky ending go brr” of three yanking that tone right back, it felt jarring. as an adult, i would like more of the light hearted jak 1, but as someone who loves morbid fantasy i would ALSO love more edgy haven city... its a strange feeling wanting both sides...
daxter on the psp is my favourite in the franchise, it managed to hit the sweet spot of funny and dark at the same time. ofc it did, the story managed to cement itself and be mature, not mature as in adult but the story itself wasnt young
The sales figures say it all, the tone shift was one of the biggest mistakes in gaming history. Jak 2, Jak 3 and Jak X Racing combined sold less then Jak and Daxter, and was objectively Naughty Dog's biggest mistake until TLOU 2 destroyed the studio's reputation on top of not selling enough to break even leaving them in their current status of having an uncertain future as they keep rereleasing TLOU 1 and 2 to try and recoup the game's development costs.
the first one was felix the cat on the nes then mario world on the snes but my real first gaming gem i played was jak 1 & ratchet & clank 2 i played sly cooper 1,2&3 & kingdom hearts everything until 3ds when i was 27 so 3 years ago the sly cooper trilogy is good
So I’d like to clarify that sucker punch shut down the rumors and said they are not working on sly right now but it seems like their story is that they would love to keep the option open. (I am not doing a proper quote but it’s out there look it up yourself please as it would be nice to see a new game but it would suck to keep hopes for something that isn’t happening right now)

Thanks :) I would go either two ways. My dream game would be to see an older Jak in his quest to become Mar to complete the time loop started in Jak 2. Which would involve the creation of The Heart of Mar (the time travelling artifact he created) and the foundation of Haven City in the past.
But since it would most likely be way too hard to explain all the back story in one game, I also wouldn't mind a completely fresh start with Jak & Daxter moving on a new planet, with new lore, etc.
According to the OG devs, they tried to continue the story, but they couldn't. Everytime they faced big obstacle on how to proceed to the next step. So, in order to preserve the legacy and not ruin the game, they stopped trying to continue the story.
The tonal shift with Jak 2 was for the worst, Jak 2, Jak 3 and Jak X Racing combined sold less then Jak and Daxter did, selling so poorly in Japan that Jak 3 would only come to Japan with a digital only release on the PS3 with only a subtitle option. As much as some fans like it the facts show that it was the wrong call with how disastrous it sold compared to the first entry.
I would not be the same man without Jak 2 and 3, so my love for these games will never falter. However, I'm willing to bet that if these games came out in today's gaming landscape, Jak 2 and 3 would crush Precursor Legacy sales wise. So I do believe this is the formula they would follow if they were to make a Jak 4.

I remember playing JakX, the story was weak and dull, tons of farming but the game was fun enough for 12yearolds. Didn't know they made Daxter so Imma go ahead and try that

However naughty dog let them borrow some existing assets. The game does a good job feeling like it belongs.
Jak X is a great time.
If you can survive the learning curve, it may be one of the best racing/combat games out there. The story ain’t bad for a racing game either - the cast gets good interactions and kree gets a posthumous send if (of “sorts”.)

It wasn't forgotten, they were done with Jak and moved on just like they did with Crash. They shouldn't make a sequel to Jak because most of the people who worked on it 20 years ago aren't a part ofnaughty dog anymore, it would be completely different. They should make a new IP since they've been doing nothing but Uncharted and TLoU for 3 console generations.
Should there every be a 4th game, here are the things I want done so it can fix the franchise and make it golden again.
1. Kill off the green hair girl and have Jack end up with the sexy goth punk princess. She is better than her.
2. Make the Precursors become one of the main villains since they are pretty much idiots, only a threat due to their technology which they could have stolen from another advanced race, and remind me of the lazy Roman nobles that brought Rome to its doom.
3. Have the Dark Makers remain as eldritch abominations, but show them in a morally grey way which gives Jak a choice between destroying them and all dark eco, which the precursors themselves want, or spare them and make a balance to both energies.
4. Turn Dexter’s girlfriend back into an elf human again. The way they turned her into a furry animal like dexter was cringe and it ruined the romance between her and Dexter. Aren’t interspecies relationships much more interesting?!
5. Maybe put in space exploration as a teaser in a future game and have Jak explore the world in the 4th game. Also, reveal what happened to the old village island in the first game and bring back the 1st villains, they definitely have potential and this could lead to the reveal of a conspiracy where the precursors ruined Jak’s life and kidnapped his mother since she had a more in tune ability to eco and they wanted it for themselves so they made Jak the “chosen one” to do all the dirty work and fix all the problems they caused.
So, what do you guys think?

There Is A Rumor That The Jak And Daxter Movie Is Coming Out With Straight Up Jak 4 That Will Be Awesome And Plus I Have My Very Own RUclips Channel That Has A Lot Of Videos Based On Jak And Daxter Check Them Out.

They’d need to maintain its original “look” imo to be good, just have a more elaborate world, more story that spans multiple realities
But I’d rather them keep the cartoonish-ness of it.

I am a huge fan of jak and daxter.
Yes I was disappointed with the lost frontier, the combat was off, among other things, it lack the polish the original 3 had, however jak x combat racing is one of my favorite combat based race games, it and 3 are the two I played the most.
The only issue I see now with making a new game is, how they proceed.
Mar from the past is jak, but now mention of daxter was made, did he stay in the world of jak 3 with Tess, while jak went far back into the past?
There is enough lore scattered that easily hints at the possibility of a continuation.... But what could they throw at him?
My thought is if they made another game, it would probably involve jak helping the precursors banish the original dark precursors in the past, while he became mar told of in the future who built the catacombs and such..... But who knows.
Maybe a reboot would be the best option, since Naughtydog seem to have a problem with "what they want to do."
Maybe with a reboot they can fix the plot holes in their writing for Jak & Dax and, at the same time, "do what they want to do" in terms of the game's design.

They couldn't make Jak 4 because they'd nerf Daxter's speech like crazy to make all the sensitive people happy.

I'd hardly call this franchise a "forgotten" gem considering you can still pick up these games on the PS4/PS5 store digitally and it's one of Playstation's most recognisable franchises even to people who don't even play Playstation.
Oh yeah it's definitely not forgotten by gamers :) what I mean when I say forgotten is that it's been left in the dust by the industry and by Naughty Dog, compared to pretty much every single other Playstation mascots. Crash, Spyro, Kratos and now Sly (apparently) are still doing good.
i'll tell you what, Jak shaped my life so much that I started working out to be ripped like Jak, I started Parkour/Freerunning in 2005, I went on to teach it across the world and to this day, whenever I jump off something I land the way Jak does.

Jak and Daxter ws the the first video game I ever owned.. I got a Ps2 and Jak n daxter shortly after it was released for Christmas in 5th grade.. greatest game series in my mind..

Jak and Daxter created an universe that inspires me until today. The dystopic scenarios, the Dark Makers, Metal Heads, the mines, deserts and mountains.... It's way beyond it's time.
As much as I want new Jak and Daxter game, I'd rather it be developed as far away from current day Naughty Dog as possible. Insomniac would do great job with J&D IP as they've showed with last Ratchet and Clank.

@@victim2077 Im sensing a pattern here that when ever a Western game company creates a cartoon character, it's usually because of hardware limitations. When technology evolves the Western company abandons the cartoon character in favor of a more realistic adventure series. This has happened to Banjo Kazooie and now Jak.
new to jak and daxter already in love with the lore, world and music and how jak moves it's so satisfying. I feel like the jak and daxter fandom has been ressurected since the first game was ported to pc.

It felt so refreshing to see the most significant video game franchise of my childhood getting such a caring face lift. As a kid I played all of these games, and I never stopped. To this day, over 20 years later, they remain my favorites and I still replay them about once a year, sometimes more frequently. You said it perfectly, it feels like the series is being resurrected as we speak. But by fans this time rather than developers.
