Pull choke half way out--pull twice--push choke back in-- and try starting again--Should start quickly.

I think this generation of mercs is the worst. Especially the smaller engines.

I have pretty much the same engine and it is hard t I pull the pull cord wore out both of my shoulders, only got it to start once, any tips?
@@disparage1 you should try to take apart the starting mechanism and check if there's nothing stuck, and if it doesn't start you could try to clean the carb.

Yes, this is the thunderbolt blueband series. We like them to but they are quit hard to fix. What is your experience woth mercury?

Oh that does not sound good. Sometimes mercury does have a failure where the stop button is not connected very well. It could give some electrical schocks which can cause kidney failure. Did you recover?
@@outboardguys7426No mercury is a liquid metal at room temperature which is toxic. I believe you can also make highly sensitive flashpowder with it.

hmm I think its from 1981, but I'm not sure tho
I have the exact motor. Was having same issue as you taking several pulls to start. Cleaned carb and changed diaphragm gaskets on fuel intake. Also replaced black plastic tube on inside of carb that the jet seats into since it was cracked and now starts on second pull.
