He always plays the base chord progression that goes with the vocals, while the guitar riffs something different in the same key. I appreciate that about him
HomerJ. Fong I haven't been able to play the guitar for awhile since I joined the Army. I plan on getting my guitars shipped to me so I can start back playing.
@SgtZaqq Actually, for those seperate notes he stops playing the palm-muted note and plays it cleanly. It sounds like he keeps playing the note because it's a fairly fast and steady rhythm, when he actually isn't palm-muting for that moment.
No probs Joe, glad you enjoyed, and that sounds like a hell of an experience! If you're interested theres a whole bunch of original rust in peace master tracks all over youtube.
I just recently got into Megadeth, and this is by far my favorite song to play Bass to, THANK YOU, the volume is never loud enough....I wonder if my windows can take much more before shattering xD, anyway thanks Bro
I read it before and wasn't convinced, but on the 2nd listen.... That's some tight playing! I have to cover this with my band... I normally play with fingers but i might have to learn to use a pick just for this one!
Hey man thanks a lot for this! , I grew up listening to these guys , hell I even work lights for then one time long ago with the 4 original guys. if you have any more of the older stuff that would be awesome! Your new friend sincerely! Joe Scott
I think Dave wrote the bassline for this, not Ellefson. Still I'm sure he added a lot of color to it for example at the end of the long choruses and solo. The chorus is one of my favorite bass lines of metal
ya know i was trying to play and sing this song to just a drum track earlier and i couldnt figure out why my singing didnt sound right.... missing bass is why.
Do you know where I can download the master tracks for CTE? I've got them for peace sells and rust in peace and it helps sooo much learning everything note for note.
I ask myself how could david´s bass sound like that? It´s fucking really awesome¡¡¡¡ Can someone tell me, or do i need to buy the david ellefson´s bass signature?
He uses EMG pickups and eq, so yes, that is a big part of it. He also uses D'Addario Pro Steels, before that, it was D'Addario Prisms, and before that, Rotosound (which I think were used here, and also the Rust in Peace album). Also, along with a pick, obviously, it sounds like that clank you get from really low action.
Lucian Graves during this he had his Jackson PJ style concert basses. He didn’t have soap bars until 2010 when he rejoined megadeth. The pickups he used on his 80’s and 90’s Jackson’s were the stock P and J pickups.
I Like so much that Ellefson on this track is playing different parts from the guitar, he is usally playing similar bass line as the guitar , but on this song was more creative with the bass line and did hes own bass line different from the guitar. AWESOME JOB!
This rules! I always thought megadeth's recording sound sucked ass, but this track is the whip diggity! Dave's bass playing/sound is awesome! Way underrated bass player! Too bad all of these guys are better than Metallica and have to play second fiddle to them.....at least megadeth is rich : )
Ellefson is far beyond most metal bassists, even (dare I say it) Cliff Burton. Just putting lots of distortion on your bass doesn't make you good. On the other hand, Cliff wrote better stuff. And no, Im not saying I like Megadeth more than Metallica (or vice-versa).
Is this real? Because the bass sounds alright but the Drums sound mushy and weak and that can't be right because the original record has the most crisp, clean, and brutal sound ever.

Burton is nothing special. Just fast fingers and lots of distortion. So is Lars and Kirk. It’s about songwriting with Metallica they are great at it and this is why I listen to them 25 times more than Megadeth. Pantera is way better at musicianship collectively than many rock bands.
Metallica are much richer than Megadeth. Because the members of Megadeth blew a lot of their money on drugs in the earlier years. Wasn't until about 1992 that they started making money. Metallica just kept on earning and still are.

The title of the video should be: ''why bass is essential in metal''
Are you listening, Lars?
Or why drums is essential in metal.
🤘🏼
@@FirstLast-fc7dt well drums or at least some kind of percussion is essential in almost every genre
Killer bass line.
Way to go Ellefson.
this is his favorite song/bassline too 😅
He always plays the base chord progression that goes with the vocals, while the guitar riffs something different in the same key. I appreciate that about him
@Nairam Diam Sometimes Dave writes hem not always.
THAT TONE!!!!!
That chord progression from 2:22 to 2:36 is epic. That's what make the solo so melodic in my opinion
Ravenwing Marty said it was too simplistic, he could do much better 🤷🏻♂️
I just learned the guitar riffs for this song and this is a good track to play along with.
How's the guitar going for you so far? Still at it?
HomerJ. Fong I haven't been able to play the guitar for awhile since I joined the Army. I plan on getting my guitars shipped to me so I can start back playing.
Teddy Fuse agreed. But it would be easier to start the track of they added metronome at the beginning.
so did you start playing again? if yes how is it going.
That Jackson tone
Nick Menza and Dave Ellefson best Thrash Metal kitchen!!

Drum + Bass = All I need to rock!
Now here is a rare old-school metal band that knows how to use a bass player!
I taught myself to play the bass for this song through this track, thank you very much!!!
Have you been playing bass lately?
He has the best metal bass tone going bar none.

@weirdalyankosin you're welcome champ, and good work!
It almost sounds like there's an over dub with the Bass during the verses.
Hes palm muting it, it's really weird to do at first but you get the hang of it.
Ah
Pretty sure it is overdubbed.
No look up videos, ellifson explains how to play it

@cracking1993 hey, i dont think the master tracks for trust are released, would be cool if they were!

surprisingly no
