  • This car's story is complicated, but after the previous engine developed oil pressure issues and a slight knock I decided to not cut any corners using unknown short blocks and build my first engine completely top to bottom. This engine is out of a van, high miles but machine shop was impressed with how little wear there was. Cam bearings were falling apart, so I had the block hot tanked, honed, crank polished, cam bearings installed, and built the rest at home. Arp bolts, Felpro gaskets, sealed power rings, and summit racing 1789 cam were used when bolting it back together. (Smaller cam than before, but more user friendly for a mild build.) Specs are 272 duration and .454 lift, with 110 LSA. has a little bit of chop and broad power band which I'm happy with. Used the Holley 670 for break in only and switched to a 750 cfm Quadrajet to match the spread bore intake. Relived when this fired right up. only issues were one defective lifter. Dropped in a new one after narrowing down the culprit, and after several hundred miles its been flawless.

All it needs is 2000 rpm to break in the Flat tapped cam properly for 20 minutes so it doesn’t have clatter between the cam and lifters

I just had an issue where lifter didnt pump up at all. Pulled it out with a magnet and ran a second “break in” just to be safe. All the lifters spun on cam and in the bores properly so it all worked out
