  • I put this video together to accompany my instrumental piece "Yellow Sky", it's definitely not the gloomy streets of South Tyneside where I live but a little brighter and sunnier from elsewhere in the world. I've given a brief description below as to how the song materialised.
It was Monday 16th October I'd come back home after going shopping at the local Asda store yuk!!! I hate shopping, I settled into my chair with my guitar in hand and thought now is the time to start putting together something in Open "C" Tuning as I was inspired to write this song whilst watching a lesson by Don Ross on open tunings a couple of weeks before. It was a strange old day over here in the UK, we were getting the tail end of hurricane Ophelia and apparently, it had sucked up sand from the Sahara desert and it was swirling around in the sky.
When I looked up at the sky it was a strange grey with a dark yellowy tinge the likes as I'd never seen before, so i began to noodle around with ideas on the guitar until I had the finished piece, which I put together over six days, an hour or so each night after work, it just seemed very apt to call it "Yellow Sky".
I wrote and played the piece on my Yamaha APX III Acoustic, I plugged it straight into my Focusrite 6i6 and recorded it through Ableton Live 9, I added a bit of reverb and delay for a bit of ambiance. I hope that it is an enjoyable piece for anyone who would like to listen to it.
    Many thanks.
