Understanding Wall Hung Toilets

- Common in Europe for many years, wall hung toilets are not a standard bathroom specification in North America. Two common misunderstandings about the wall hung toilet is that difficult to install or service and that they are very expensive. Neither of these is true. There are several manufacturers of wall hung toilets, they are ideally suited to small space bathrooms and if detailed properly, can contribute to a very streamlined look. Wall hung toilets have a tall and narrow tank component that is installed between the studs before the drywall stage of construction. Proper structural blocking is critical to give the wall hung toilet the required stability. The toilet bowl is then installed after tile work is complete and access to the tank for any service is through the flush panel, which is mounted on the wall behind the bowl. In terms of cost, they can range up to $1,300 but after a quick internet check we found several Duravit models on sale for under $300, making them a viable alternative to a standard toilet.

The people on here worrying about leaks and maintenance are cracking me up! 1) The flush plate IS the access panel. Popping the flush plate off the wall to access all the working parts is just as easy as taking the lid off of a standard toilet tank. 2) I guess all your water supply pipes are installed in front of your walls, right? After all, you don't want to risk any leaks! Come on people, it's plumbing, not witchcraft.
thank you for helping me understand wall hung toilets
Not certain I heard the high cost "misconception" dispelled. I did not hear any discussion of cost.
i saw one at 9500$
I'm wondering, if there's a bedroom on the other side of the wall, would these be noisier?
Pretty sure ya'll said nothing about the cost of these toilets, The least I've seen these assemblies for online is $700. Was there a better option as far as price?
Hi, I am in the process of installing a wall hung toilet. I like to know if it's best to tile around the toilet pan to prevent breakage of tile underneath or is it safe to tile underneath(attachment area) prior to fixing toilet pan on the frame...? Any advice would be appreciated.
idreesbk was wondering this myself any advice?
you can tile over it, just make sure you double stud where you'll hang the toilet and use a foam protector plate between the tiling and the toilet, they usually come with the toilet.
My concern with wall mounted toilet is that how easy it is for maintenance and service vs regular toilet. Do I have to break the wall down to fix or change something each maintenance? Anyone?
Your flush plate becomes the access panel - it's removable and then service is done through that 'hatch'
zero room for error on a wall hung toilet. Leaks cannot be detected so you need some type of waterproofing/ water escape in the bottom of the wall in the event a leak does occur. Just installed one to the tune of 2500.00. It will be the only one I install in my home.
Same goes for anything. Lots of pluming going trough the walls you're not aware of.
how about heavy person sit on it?
that is the billion-dollar question xD
@@karlasaliba4677 Abacus (in the UK at least) have a better support system for the pan with two super strong bolts protruding that takes the weight of the pan and upto 400kg, now thats pretty heavy. I wouldn't touch the one they are talking about as it means the pan is held to the wall by the ceramic which isn't a good idea.
I have one...there problematic. .leaking a lot and a nuisance to service
how about replacing the wall with some kind of accessible door? just asking for ideas too.
+Raja Ram Mummadavarapu I suppose.

How to maintain concealed cistern
You don't understand how to do the service, there's access panel can be token out and do the replacement service very easy. And the flush was good and also you can put the bidet seat, the cost is not an issue, once you're doing the modeling, it will cost a lot for the tile and the labor not the toilets.
Sure they look nicer but hell to work on or repair
These guys are dead wrong. Wall hung toilets are much more difficult to install and are much more expensive than a regular one. They are nice though, so I just installed one.
How much did yours total out to be?
That is the misconception what they mention in the first minute of the video

The space that's exposed below ... sure you can clean it ... but why add yet another space to clean in the first place? With traditional toilets the footprint is covered so there's nothing to clean. This is like intentionally removing built-in storages from under the bed ... just to open up a space to clean.
I wouldn't know because I never clean the back lol But point taken.
I think it's easier to clean these. Just a quick swipe below, no struggles to get behind it
easy installation my ass
