I was privilaged to see Edwin sing this song live at the Leamington Spa Centre twice.Best vocalist male I have heard ,but more than that was his radiant stage presence and friendliness to the audiance. When he wasnt singing he was smiling.God bless you Edwin
ryanfrombrum.. couldn't agree more! I met Edwin on a number of occassions, he sat and had a drink with us, pulled me up on stage to dance.. I will never ever forget him, what a legend and an amazing man!
So underrated. Met him once at a "Party in the Park" gig and he signed my plastercast - I saw him again about three months later at Asda Supermarket in Tamworth (near where he lived) and he said "i see your arms got better then mate" What a legend - R.I.P Edwin ! You are missed !!!
Great song. I was lucky enough to see Edwin in concert a few years ago. He had more energy and enthusiasm than any of today's artists. Fantastic performer.
Finaly I find this song. At last. I have searched for it during some years now. Didn't remember the name of the song. Just remember that it was in 79. Fabulous. A classic.
Just realised he probably did this video totally off the cuff for Top Of The Pops. It's fucking excellent and actually reminds me of how much work people in radio put into live shows to keep you lit during the day! Love it as I used to work in radio and it was the best job I ever had.
I was in a happy mood, so I sought out this song; hadn't heard it since 1979 but never forgot it! I can imagine that even if you are not in a happy mood, this might just put you there :)
Man, I love this song! What a freakin' amazing feel good song! Great energy too! Still sounds amazing 31 years later. It makes me wonder why my local radio station music director, at the time, would turn down a song like this. RIP Edwin.
I remember my friend Anthony riding up with a brand new 10 speed bike that had a radio on it in the summmer of 1979...this song was on...I loved it ever since...Disco is and was the best music ever !!
Glad to see you again, I haven't seen you since I don't know when (don't know when), we are the Aris-to-crat of Bands and we are the Best Band (Best Band) Best Band in the laaand! Thanks for the tune, Edwin.
love this song, brings back such memories. wish he did more Disco. it was such a happy music, forget the problems, dance, look good and enjoy. No such music ever since. We need disco and the gifts it brings now more than ever. a bit of escape for reality. Just sing, dance and look good if even for a few moments, it's healing.
Love the "scope" featured in the video, Iv'e worked for 3 radio stations over the years, and none of them ever had a "scope" in the studio. The rest of the kit looks authentic though!
Thanks to Daft Punk's brilliant Random Access Memories album your wish and my wish for more disco and for a new disco revival came true! Edwin Starr's disco masterpiece '' Contact'' and catchy '' H.a.p.p.y. Radio'' today considered dance classics.Disco is happiness, joy and dance.
This song is also the intro to my favorite radio station's Morning Show in Erie, PA..you should check 'em out they're awesome!!..WEHP 92.7 aka Happi927 HD
