*UPDATE 2* - Many people have questioned how this test was run, a few thoughts on that... 1. These are OEM prebuilt machines, not custom builds. The RAM speeds are what they are, they cannot be changed in any way. This is what you get with a Dell or Acer machine. 2. This test is meant to show real world use, what to expect when you buy a basic OEM computer and use it as it comes, dropping a $150 basic GPU into it (the GTX 1050 TI). 3. Yes, I'm well aware that a GTX 1080 would remove GPU performance limits and show a larger difference, but so what, no one actually installs that into these types of computers (or they shouldn't), this is the sort of card that actually gets used in them. 4. This test is not meant to show if the CPU generation matters in ALL cases, it is ONLY testing GTA V on these CPUs with the GTX 1050 TI, full stop. Nothing more or less. People have been reading more into it than is there. 5. Yes, the video is long, probably too long, I do love to talk ;) But if you skip to the end, you will miss a lot of detail and background. However, that being said, I won't make them this long again... (probably not anyway)
You would need a new power supply (AT LEAST 450 watts with an 8-pin PCI-E adapter)for the RX 470, even the much weaker graphics cards like the 1050 or RX 460 require a MINIMUM of a 300 Watt power supply.
Hp carlos referred me to watch your videos, most just publish average 5 minutes, love the details & imfo , i bought the msi 1050 ti low profile for my compaq 6200 sff . You guys were rite, card works great with cheap azz psu these pre builts come with. Ty 4 vid.
*UPDATE* - Since filming this, I've installed the EVGA GTX 1060 SC into the $400 Acer Aspire T desktop and I can confirm that it works well using the existing 300 watt power supply and the 2x MOLEX to 1x 6-pin adapter that EVGA provides in the box. I'll be redoing this series using the GTX 1060, since that is also a reasonable card to install in all three computers, to show what difference it makes to step up to the next level. I will have to replace the power supply in the i5-2400 and i5-4440 PCs however, since they come with 240 and 265 watt power supplies. EVGA GTX 1060 3GB SC - $200 - amzn.to/2iTl8Fy EVGA 430 Watt Power supply - $35 - amzn.to/2jHqpnP
*UPDATE 2* - I did try installing the ASUS RX 470 Strix card that I've reviewed into the Acer Aspire T using the same MOLEX adapter, it ran fine until I launched a game, then locked up. I'll try again after I install the 430 watt power supply and see if that fixes it. I'd like to run these same tests using a RX 470, since it really is a great value for the money, but I need to get it working first of course. :)
*UPDATE 3* - For those asking about the $1,500 Kaby Lake build, I'm working on it, but it is running behind, I'm hoping to have it up on Sunday at this point, we shall see how that goes... I had to finish filming the review for the Z270 motherboard comparison last night (which I can't do once the board is installed), and the case reviews... If I miss Sunday, then I might put it off until Tuesday or Wednesday and get the power supply reviews finished, since I need those done to install them all into the pre-builts...
Tech Deals Can you please consider doing a review on discrete graphics for mild gamers? Games that will run under them or for people either holding off on a gpu or saving to buy one after starting a build (at different price points of course). Love your videos btw... ty
What an educational piece to listen and fun to watch, deserves mucho more views... maybe list time stamps for topics you are talking about? i5-4460 at 11:40 RAM importance 12:35 etc. One suggestion more :) Maybe throw some infographics or detailed product photo from time to time i.e. when you talk about 2xmolex to 6-pin PCI-E adaptor so audience can picturize it...even annotations with amazon whatever links to the product
Even if i am not interested in these CPUs i still watch the video because i like your voice and the fact that you give all the details when talking about a subject. Great job and i can't wait for 100k subs! We are almost there ;)
I love this video, helped me purchase & still going strong today my hp elite with i5-2400 cpu *** 16gb ram *** 1050 ti. For a total $334.- price / performance ratio is just incredible. Ty tech deals 💝
Nice video. Although in your comment below you said that the video is intended to show how CPU generation matters in GTA V only, I believe it can also be used to illustrate how things evolved in the CPU side of things, and the difference between newer and older CPUs might as well be shown in another games, especially CPU bound ones. It's really nice to see these kind of videos, since many people still use older, capable CPUs.
Awesome video - Here I am 6 months later & still enjoying this post by tech deals ! I found tech deals around X-mas 2016, - this video made me upgrade my HP elite 8200 sff, I added evga sc 16gb ram / Crucial mx300 ss hd & msi 1050 ti lp. Glad I listened, stuttering & pauses gone when setting @ high with Anisotropic filtering - x16. thanx 4 posting
One of the BEST Tech Deals Video ( Greatest Hits ) As a Owner of HP i5-2400 cpu & MSI 1050 ti low profile & before I upgraded to 16gb RAM....after several hours of gaming I did have to save & restart game. also when cpu reaches 90% or more = all 4 cores - System ram really creeps up on older processors , etc... afterburner helped me realize why Ram was so high after gaming for awhile !
Back in January - I watched & listened many times / replayed this video - Pat myself on the back for upgrading to 16gb RAM - older hardware really needs ALL the help it can get with New Triple A games ~ Just Runs Smoother !! Ty
I love how you use the i5 2400 and GTX 1050ti in game tests.. since that's what I have in my system and i can just look up your videos and know if I can run it well haha

I have used a GTX 1050 SSC in Grand Theft Auto V, it works fine. All you have to worry about is the Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering. The card can most definitely run GTA V, its just the VRAM is limited.
Cool video, keep up the good content! One question though, my pc still running a first gen i5 (i5-760) running at the stock 2.8 GHz. Will this bottleneck something like a gtx 1050 TI or gtx 1060 / rx 470? I'm thinking about upgrading, and I'm not too comfortable overclocking my already super-hot system. Any suggestions?
check out jermgaming, he made a pc to compete with the PS4 called the patato master with An i5-750 and a gtx 760, he has upgraded it now to the patato master pro to compete with the PS4 pro (he just swapped it for a 1060) and there is no bottlenecking whatshowever. mind you the cpu is oc'ed to 4.2ghz tho, but it's on a stock cooler so ye

A lot,I don't know how much exactly because I paid in Pesos(Chilean coin) in pesos its 1.104.000 Million pesos. In dollars it'll be like 1400 dollars I guess.Been thinking of upgrading to i7 6700k
Thanks for your videos, I like them because you show how low-mid tier combinations of hardware work together instead of focusing solely on bleeding edge high end. You the reveal the biggest bang for the buck for gaming on a reasonably balanced system. Very interesting
i've subscribed to your channel some times ago. just wanted to tell you your look and voice and mannerism remind me of the (not so) old teleshopping actors, and that is not a bad thing necessarily :) It's a nice thing to watch a professional doing his job.
Ty tech deals for another long great video, if possible ; Can you compare msi gtx 1050 ti low profile - vs - your evga 1050 ti sc .... think you will be surprised
Great, great video. I like your ideas and way of thinking. Also l enjoy watching/listening your long videos. Generally i play WoW while watching your videos the longer they are, the better. But that's just me tough. :)
If you skip to the end for the number, then the number won't mean anything... You don't have to watch the whole thing, but a number is rather meaningless without some context behind it...
I mean I'd rather have a much quicker video than just hear someone ramble on for 38 minutes. You're a great guy and yes I'm critiquing you for a super old video.
GTA V actually has events in online lobbies where players compete for the most damage caused, haha. Great video! Would you recommended upgrading to a gtx 1070 from 970 when I have an i5 4590 for 1080p 144hz? Thank you
This is a great video. Anyone commenting about using same RAM speeds, powerful GPU, etc. yall need to relax. From watching most of his videos, it seems he is going for real world performance, not just numbers or FPS. I had no idea how to build a computer, but thanks to this guy, I understand way more about how certain parts and components work. Heck, I even followed one of his $250 Gaming pc and it worked! This guy is helping out people who don't know anything or little about pc's. He gives out the small details and end up leading to big ones. So I treat his videos as lectures or a class, not some sort of video to entertain our curiosity. ultimately I'm here to learn. Thanks so much Tech Deals.
I think your videos, being so long and explicative, are great! Keep the good work! I will update my pc. I already have a GTX 1070 to game on 1440p. What CPU do you recommend? No budget limitations :)
Side note, think ive watched this video 80 times. Love all your posts / even the products i dont need. Very detailed & imformative. Hope U get many sponcers & get paid $$$
Great video, one of my favorite games to test out graphics cards, was wondering how well a 1050 did on GTA V, I still play GTA V on my i7-940oc with a EVGA GTX 1070sc plays pretty awesome for an old i7 hehe
Were you using MSI's 4GT OC card? Because that's what it sounded like from what you were saying in the video. Funny, I just bought that same card like an hour before I saw this.
Very good video. I just want to point out that mins and max on a long run in different game areas can give extreme results. That is why usually a frametime chart or a 99 percentile stat is more telling about the real performance bottlneck. If a minimum happens once in a 30 min run it is one thing, but a whole different matter is if it regularly drops around that value.
Hi there :) Are you going to review the new Pentium G4560? And what do you think of buying a good/expensive motherboard with that processor as a placeholder/stopgap (don't know what is the correct word there) for a better CPU upgrade in the future?
Fact = i7-2600 that was released on 1/11/11 Out Performs the i5-6400 with a Gtx 1050 ti 4gb Gpu at 1080p with Very high settings in Gta V 🎮 and the i5-6400 in this Performance video is a Clean test machine ( makes a difference !! ) but the I-i7-2600 I tested had the Gtx 1050 ti 4gb was OverClocked to make up the difference. The hyperthreading & the speed it runs at is why it out performed the i5-6400, while Gaming the i7-2600 runs at 3.5 ghz when all 4 Cores are needed 🎥
Thank you... I'm not trying to remove all variables, I'm taking 3 basic pre-built machines from 3 different generations and testing them as they actually exist, rather than trying to do theory and getting a result that doesn't apply to the real world.
Hey Tech Deals, Im buying my first gaming pc and im have taken to heart your idea of getting a refurbished pc from the offices, Ive seen a fair amount of your videos, i was wondering if the dell optiplex 7010 would be a good fit to upgrade? it has an I-5 3570, 4 gb ram, 250 hdd, and windows 7. I plan on buying a 8gb of dddr3 ram to toss onto it,my friend has an old gtx-650 i was going to use in the meantime until i could get something better. Would you offer any advice to fix my train of thought or am I more or less set? Also thanks again for the videos, I come to you for the best information and specs for things like this, out of all the pc youtubers i have seen, you break down the information and detail things the best.
what i love about my 6600k and RX 480 system is that i only have 8GB of RAM at 3000 MHz, and the closest i come to using it all is about 7400 MB total usage.
One thing I figured out when I bought the Optiplex 790 was that I can actually activate Windows 10 with the Windows 7 OEM code on the sticker. That's really convenient!
Hey great video I just bought a 1050 ti SC for a pc I built, I am doing another build and I notice here in canada that the RX 480 is only about 30$ more so im wondering which card would be better for 1080p highest settings gaming? thanks man appreciate your time
1/1/2018 👉 Happy New Year 👻 last year around this time ; this video helped me decide which graphics card to purchase for my 2011 home office pc & we miss Tech Deals making long videos while teaching us all we need to learn to make an educated decision !! Thank you 🙏 again - one year later & 1050 ti and added another 8 gb ram = awesome smooth gameplay with NEw triple A games @ high settings / 1080p x 60hz
January 2018 and my HP compaq pro 8200 elite sff pc with i5-2400 cpu / Crucial mx300 ssd / Evga sc 16gb ram / Msi gtx 1050 ti low profile graphics video card - high settings / 1080p x 60hz 👾 “ hairworks off “ thanx again 🇵🇹
On a 8 GB VRAM video card (RX 480) GTA 5 uses 4.5 GB VRAM vs 3.5 GB on the GTX 1050 in your video. I had no issues with only 8 GB system RAM in this scenario. The same with Fallout 4, I can`t give you exact numbers but i had no problems over time in the game.
Tech Deals, I hope you'll see my comment. I've always wanted to find out if it is fine to play demanding games while plugged in on a gaming laptop. I've always thought that it kills the battery and that I should always unplug the power adapter once the charge reaches 100%. Do you have anything to say about that?
Hey, nice video, but I do agree the video is overly long. It's fine if you have stuff to say, but I think a lot of people would gladly come back to your videos if you simply put some timestamps in the description. :)
That's exactly the kind of video I was looking for, I am maybe going to buy an i5 3470 with standard cooler from a friend with MSI mainboard and 8 GB DDR3 ram for 95 EUR and wanted to know, if a 3 - 4 year old cpu can still be useful. Really nice video, thanks. That's would be the first time I build an system on my own, at first I will insert an GTX 650 which I get as a gift... and later I will put an GTX 1050 Ti or 6GB GTx 1060 in it. I have an 565 Watts power supply from PRO82+, which should be more than enough and served me really well in my old rig.
I respect your honesty very much, To me i only see 7frames difference between 2nd gen and the 4th, 6th gen and the temp is only 5 or 8 unit. Thanks man
You can find a used i5-3570 cpu for about half the price of an i5-6400 and a 3570k for around the same and sometimes lower. I'd highly recommend those over all of the above if building the system yourself. At $80-$130 used they are a lot of bang for your bucks. They can push a 1060 which should be good for 1080p gaming over at least the next 3 years.
I've been considering an upgrade for my computer. My current specs are: Intel Core i5 3330 3.0GHz MSI GTX 750ti Twin Frozr 2GB GDDR5 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM Windows 10 64 bit. I have been wondering whether or not I need to upgrade my CPU in order to get better gaming performance out of it along with the GPU (I've been considering a 3GB GTX 1060). Could you tell me if it is required?
this is really interesting video because I have an old Dell optiplex 990 with a Core i7 2600 that I'm currently using as my server and I was looking at putting a graphics card in it so I can have a good gaming PC in my living room
Been looking to get a 1050ti for myself however I've got an FX4350 atm. I understand I'll get quite a bad bottle neck but I'm happy to take that hit for a few months so I can save money to get a decent i5 and new mobo. Would anyone here consider this a stupid move? Also, currently got a gtx650 so I'm sure you can understand why I'd want to upgrade.
I picked up one of these machines for my sister for xmas this year. And snagged a gtx 1050. And another 4gb RAM to put it at 8gb. In sum, she got an i5-2400 w/ 8gb RAM and a gtx 1050 as an upgrade to her 5y/o Celeron Dual Core @ 2ghz. And I paid about $275. Worth it, poor girl was watching other people play video game. Full playthroughs. A better deal though, I managed to pick up an x58 Dell t3500 w/ 12GB Ram since then for $35bucks. And for another $40 I got a xeon x5687 to put in it. And a gtx 1060 used for $180. So now I have a Xeon x6587 @ 3.9 ghz w/ 12gb Ram, a 3tb HDD, and a gtx 1060 for ~$250.
Interesting how the i5 6400 uses almost 100% CPU. With my 6500, I only use 75% and that's only when a lot of stuff is happening. It can easily go down to 50%.
hi tech deals. can. when u see the specs of core i5 4th gen. u see the grpichs its only required 2gb of gpu.so when gtx1050 tihas 4 gb so it means the other 2 gb of gpu will wasted? please help
I'm running a core2quad Q6600 at 2.6Ghz and am seeing an avg of 59fps, minimum of 31 fps and max of 79fps. I'd say upgrading this old Core2Duo 775 machine with the Q6600 and 8GB of DDR2 800 was well worth it.
I've been looking for a i5-2400 for a while and I've found them fairly cheap (lowest being $70), I feel like for the money of getting a 6400 I could just build a better computer, I may be mistaken but I haven't found one for under $400.
Man you could not have hit the nail more on the head. For some reason Sandy Bridge CPUs are dirt cheap, but if you go up to Haswell CPUs the prices are ridiculous! I picked up a Core i5 2500 to upgrade my current Dell Inspiron 620 that originally came with a Core i3 2120 for only 60 bucks! Talk about dirt cheap!

I wouldn't... 240 watts, RX 470, I'd replace the power supply...
Or GTX 1050 TI

That CPU is 20% closer than the i5-2400, 40% slower than the i5-6400, it may well be time to replace that...
my old rig is still running that exact chip, but easily OC to 3.3ghz on air cooler.
it should not bottleneck a 1050 or 470.
TheMacke earn more money and replace cpu mobo ram gpu, its totally worth it.
Doesn't matter how much you overclock the i5-760, it will still bottleneck the 1050 Ti.

Chroma Virus lel how much did you pay? Lmao
A lot,I don't know how much exactly because I paid in Pesos(Chilean coin) in pesos its 1.104.000 Million pesos. In dollars it'll be like 1400 dollars I guess.Been thinking of upgrading to i7 6700k
If you just got your PC there's no use to upgrade to an i7-6700k unless you do video editing or you really need it.
Chroma Virus go with 3000mhz ram .. trust me it is worth it ALOT
Thanks for your videos, I like them because you show how low-mid tier combinations of hardware work together instead of focusing solely on bleeding edge high end. You the reveal the biggest bang for the buck for gaming on a reasonably balanced system. Very interesting
This video was AWESOME! It answered alot of questions that I could find nowhere else. Thx!
Thanks for doing this! Still helpful and relevant over a year later.
Are you going to review the Intel Pentium g4560? I would say probably the best ultra-budget cpu for gaming
Arta true
Arta its a successor to g3258 😄 best intel budget CPU
joey hernandez them cpu sucks it's not a true quad core I wish people would just buy a quad core try rending on a dual core or any real work load
joey hernandez It isn't a successor to the G3258, which was made for enthusiast overclockers. The G4560 cannot be overclocked.
Chris Wright this cpu isnt made for such tasks, why would you do it then
i've subscribed to your channel some times ago. just wanted to tell you your look and voice and mannerism remind me of the (not so) old teleshopping actors, and that is not a bad thing necessarily :) It's a nice thing to watch a professional doing his job.
Nice video! I currently have this setup i5-2400 + gtx 1050 ti + 8GB ram and it still kicks ass!
Ty tech deals for another long great video, if possible ; Can you compare msi gtx 1050 ti low profile - vs - your evga 1050 ti sc .... think you will be surprised
A truly awsome informative video ty bro :) +sub
Great, great video. I like your ideas and way of thinking. Also l enjoy watching/listening your long videos. Generally i play WoW while watching your videos the longer they are, the better. But that's just me tough. :)
35:40
There, i save you 35 mins of your life. Enjoy
If you skip to the end for the number, then the number won't mean anything... You don't have to watch the whole thing, but a number is rather meaningless without some context behind it...
Life saver :D Thanks man!
I mean I'd rather have a much quicker video than just hear someone ramble on for 38 minutes. You're a great guy and yes I'm critiquing you for a super old video.
@@TechDeals is there any difference comparing the i7 with the 1050 ti
Welp this dell computer with i5 2400 sound like a plan. Thanks
Thanks for the informative videos, quality visual presentation and most of all your perfect smile!
i can watch you for anothe 40 minutes come on ghys this dude is awesome and explains as i expected with proofs that is keep this good work
This guide is very helpful to me and I actually enjoyed this video you uploaded an I also love your content!
been lookin for a video comparing these for a while :D
You're so close to 70k subs. Keep up the good work.
I think your videos, being so long and explicative, are great! Keep the good work!
I will update my pc. I already have a GTX 1070 to game on 1440p. What CPU do you recommend? No budget limitations :)
Amazing video as always, looking forward to 1060 tests on these machines.Thank you for the video!!!!
Working on those, had to get the i7-7700K build done first, but they are still coming!
Thanks for this! And I've got an i5 2500 (non K) machine and just swapped out GTX 650 ti for factory OC (PNY) GTX 1050 ti. Big difference.
Great video as always! If you make a 5 minutes video or a 5 hours video they aee always enjoyable. :D
I love this channel =) Looking at things from a pure consumer standpoint of view is super refreshing!
Side note, think ive watched this video 80 times. Love all your posts / even the products i dont need. Very detailed & imformative. Hope U get many sponcers & get paid $$$
This video is the reason i subbed now if this is your daily schedule i will be seeing you soon
This channel is very informative and very useful. + 1 subscriber Sir!
Entertaining and informative, thank you for all you do!
Great video, one of my favorite games to test out graphics cards, was wondering how well a 1050 did on GTA V, I still play GTA V on my i7-940oc with a EVGA GTX 1070sc plays pretty awesome for an old i7 hehe
Really cool video so glad I found it 😊 this really helps alot thank you 🤜🤛
your videos are so well put togther i learn something new everytime
Hey Mr. Deals, great Video as always. I love watching your videos especially when GTA 5 is involved :D Keep up the good work!
Good stuff dude keep the 1050 ti videos coming!
I have a Q8300 and a gtx 750 ti. A video about quad CPUs would be interesting to know if it's even worth it to get a new gpu.
Jari Kivinen u need a new cpu and motherboard
Thanq tech deals
u saved my money
XD
you're a life saver
Hi there :) Are you going to review the new Pentium G4560? And what do you think of buying a good/expensive motherboard with that processor as a placeholder/stopgap (don't know what is the correct word there) for a better CPU upgrade in the future?
Yes, when it comes out...
Just realized it is not available in the US yet. Thank you, looking forward to your review, keep up the good work :)
Tech Deals, congratulations on surpassing 80,000 subscribers on RUclips!
Damn I love your videos, man!
Theres so many different variables going on here. Although i can appreciate it ! Nice job!
I see you addressed my question more or less in the video. But an other tips will help.
Nice video dude. Also please do same test with i7 generation processors. :)
what i love about my 6600k and RX 480 system is that i only have 8GB of RAM at 3000 MHz, and the closest i come to using it all is about 7400 MB total usage.
Waiting on zen before upgrading, i5 2400 has served me pretty well. Cheers for the vid
One thing I figured out when I bought the Optiplex 790 was that I can actually activate Windows 10 with the Windows 7 OEM code on the sticker. That's really convenient!
I have a question! What is better? A i5 2400 or a i3 2120
Keep it up, man!!
excellent video man, also you are so funny 😂!
Hey great video I just bought a 1050 ti SC for a pc I built, I am doing another build and I notice here in canada that the RX 480 is only about 30$ more so im wondering which card would be better for 1080p highest settings gaming? thanks man appreciate your time
you did a super good job on everything in this video
Thank you!
Still using i5 2400 on 2022
How is it and do you still have it, I might buy it?
@@amirgrabovica I still have it
Amazing video. Thanks. Can't wait to see next one with 1060 as I'm debating between at gtx 1050ti and gtx 1060 (3gb/6gb) for my I7-2600k.
If you can take it, the GTX 1060 is the better deal, 75% more performance for $50 more...

I have i5 2400 & GTX 1050i & 8gb ram 😮...
But why my GpU usage is 1% ??😵
CPU USAGE - 100% TEMPERATURE 99°c
I have an i5-2400 and barely get 50fps on 1080p low (gt 1030)
Tech Deals, I hope you'll see my comment. I've always wanted to find out if it is fine to play demanding games while plugged in on a gaming laptop. I've always thought that it kills the battery and that I should always unplug the power adapter once the charge reaches 100%. Do you have anything to say about that?
Hey, nice video, but I do agree the video is overly long. It's fine if you have stuff to say, but I think a lot of people would gladly come back to your videos if you simply put some timestamps in the description. :)
I didn't mean for it to be this long, it just happens... I'm wordy! :)
Is there a bottleneck between i5 2400 and gtx 1050 ti
Thanks man
For the first 2 minutes I had to rewind as I missed you talking as I was more keen in grenades being thrown ;)
It's a miracle. a channel that's actually usefull :)
Thank you :)
My current specs are:
Intel Core i5 3330 3.0GHz
MSI GTX 750ti Twin Frozr 2GB GDDR5
8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
Windows 10 64 bit.
Also, currently got a gtx650 so I'm sure you can understand why I'd want to upgrade.
amazing video man !!!
I'd love see core 2 quad 6950 against the latest i5s and my i7 4790k be great to see how much performance difference
even i3 6100 will destroy old LGA775 quads, they perfoms just like some budget 4 core AMD FX4xxx or athlon x4
The Dell Otiplex 790 with the i7-2600 is $130 on ebay. Could you do a comparison video between the i5-2400 and the i7-2600?
the i5 6400 -gtx 1060 6gb combo is actually pretty neat. 16gb ram helps too.
I would be interested to see how a qx9650 stacks up compared to an i5 quad core as well. Great video btw.
i d love to see how bad (or good) is a core2quad with this gpu
