*UPDATE* - I have filmed an updated version of this video, shorter and with 23 benchmarks included ruclips.net/video/3X0hX_U7Pik/видео.html *Please checkout the new video linked here, lots of info on these 2 cards* and the cards above and below it (1050/1070)
my i please ask, Does Rise of the Tomb Raider use more than 3GB RAM? because it was released October 2016, but there's a huge difference in FPS between the 3GB & 6GB when playing it.
I'm looking to get into streaming and content creation will the step down to save 50 bucks worth it for me and will it have an impact on my able to stay smooth and fluid?
UPDATE 2 - While I've been sick, I can't help but mess around with these things... :) I've been trying various GTA V settings out, including my first use of ShadowPlay recording, which I don't like because it affects the performance, but it isn't as bad as I thought it might be... Before I get to the GTX 1060 cards... here is my game computer from home: Intel i5-6500 16GB RAM EVGA GTX 970 FTW H170 1080p - ShadowPlay is taking about 5% of the overall performance, sometimes as little as 3%, but I'm calling it 5% as I've seen that from time to time. 4K - ShadowPlay is taking 10% of the performance and this is fairly steady. 1080p - Very High - FXAA - Recording Off - Avg 91 - Min 66 - Max 132 1080p - Very High - FXAA - Recording On - Avg 86 - Min 57 - Max 120 4K - High - No FXAA - Recording Off - Avg 61 - Min 43 - Max 78 4K - High - No FXAA - Recording On - Avg 55 - Min 38 - Max 71 I've run these multiple times and tested other settings to see how repeatable they are... Now I'm going to stick the 1060 cards in and compare... Not sure when I'll upload the videos, I want to do a voice over and I'm still sick, but there are some results from the 970 FTW card (running at EVGA's shipped FTW speed)
you should try to be more confident, I don't want to sound like an idiot as I know its hard to do but it would increase your quality quite a lot. either way great vid
YES! Check out Newegg.com's BF deals which are going on right now. I've seen 1060s for less than $199!! And here's the question I have for Tech Deals. If there's a $20 difference between the 3GB and 6GB version, would you then go for the 6GB version? I think I would. Because, here's my next question, As I put add-ons onto my Bethesda games, will I have to worry about that 3GB cap? For me, I just quite justify $400 for a graphics card. I've had a hard time justifying $300. So, that leaves me to buy graphics cards that are already 2 years old.
hi, thanks a ton for such a great video which helped a lot for me to make decision to buy even 1060 6gb sc but my problem is that I don't understand this technical stuff at all so I need your little more help.... I have motherboard Gigabyte H81M-S1.... and it says it have 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 2 x PCI Express x1 slots (The PCI Express slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.) ... so will this card work with this?????
I'm thinking of starting a new channel; "Tech Meals". The channel will consist mostly of me preparing spaghetti using water salvaged from faulty GPU water coolers. Do you think this would be a fruitful endeavor?
Dude, I love the way you explain all this. I used to have difficulties understanding some videos before subscribing to you. You just explain it very clearly. I appreciate all your hard work. I think you deserve way more subscribers. Thanks so much again. The RUclips community has become a better place with you.
You coudn't express it better, man. I really love his devotion to smallest details in analysis. His movies are really helpful, I am really happy finding this channell. Well done! Keep a good work! BTW I buy 1060 6GB for 1440p playing. :)
Best tech channel, and yes the PSYCHOLOGICAL worry about buying gear especially technology is real and is (i'd say) 80% causing the regret on buying something a bit cheaper, while 20% MAY be the performance. Very smart of you talking about it. +1sub
UPDATE 3 - I've finished editing some benchmark and performance videos. First time, no voice on them, I'm still sick, but you've all waited long enough, so lots of words on the screen. :) Not to worry, this won't be forever, but for now... it is what I've got. A few hours, they should be up...
Hey, first wanted to say this is a great channel, you're practically spot on with your reviews and analytics. Definite subscribe. That being said, I'd like to ask - were those GTX 1060 3gb/6gb 1440p and 4k GTA5 tests done on a system with 8 or 16 gb's of RAM? If on 16, is there any chance you can repeat them on a 8gb DDR3 system? (the 1440p Ultra test at least). I have a strong suspicion this is where 1060 3gb will show it's difference with 6gb, as game will be already utilizing full 8 gigs of RAM for own needs, not leaving anything spare for textures. Not asking for a whole new video of that, but would be good to know - as NONE of those reviewers who do benchmarks do it on a 8gb ddr3 system, while ALOT of people have that setup, and not 16-32 gb's of DDR4 (myself incl).. Which, in effect, may end up them being fooled about today performance of 1060 3gb vs 6gb verison based on system specs, and these 2 cards are what people with such system specs will be going for. The ones with 16-32gb ddr4 will go for 1070 or 1080 probably. Checking for stuff like textures not loading in time on 1060 3gb vs 6gb despite the similiar FPS (if it'll be the case) would be appreciated too.
This guy is such a blessing to have around when diving head first in the world of computers. I've always been a console gamer, I'm buying my first PC and I could send him flowers. THANKS, sir.
What an excellent channel, you literally took the words out of my mouth. Beautifully elucidated the details of this GPU as well as what would be viable within the next 3 years. Subscribed!
UPDATE - I had hoped to have benchmark videos up already, but I've been sick the past two days... I may end up sticking the cards into a computer at home to do some full screen benchmarks, since I may not be back to the office this week...
If you can help it, good not to allocate more than possible usage though. You allocate more than you have and the game crashes. Was having this issue on my 2 GB card previously.
You are the true hero of the modern computing age. I disable ad-block on all your videos and share your channel to my misinformed friends. I know you'll make it up in subs and get that silver button one day! Don't forget to stay true to ad-free videos when you make it to the top! You're awesome!
Surprised that there's no comment saying there IS one game (which should be known too) that needs 6GB of VRAM for Ultra detail; Shadow of Mordor. Even so, benchmarks shows that it tends to use only up to 4, the 6 may be for 'security'. Other than that, 6GB of VRAM can be a big future proof, so it just MAY be worth getting, although not for another 50, Nvidia is just too damn greedy nowadays.
it shouldn't be a surprised that no one mention about it bcoz, he mention that games currently released in 2016...shadow of mordor is a 2014 game anyway, yeah that game do required a lot of vram for textures etc
I chose the GTX 1060 3gb mainly because it plays all the games I WANT to play. By the time most games require more than 3gb of vram to play on high there will already be a new gpu at the $200 range such as gtx 1160 or rx 580.
yeah, besides in my country the price difference is $70-$80 or more...that's quite huge for many people.....as vram capacity relation with future gaming, like you said, you either buy new GPUs or there can always be compromise in settings
In my country the 6gb is 100 euros more expensive... it's just bs. Since I only play in 1080p I bought the 3gb one, I think I had no choice. If the difference was really only 30 euros or something as some people say I would go straight to the 6gb but that's not the case. I feel kinda worried though about future games since they are asking more and more vram because of the textures. But even if they ask more I think I could still play them by just going down a little bit in the textures quality since that's the main thing that requires more vram in the gpu. Anyways, I don't really know why NVidia had the "amazing" idea to launch this 3gb gpus would it be too much for them to keep the 4gb standard as they had in some previous cards... idk, but I think that this was the correct solution for me I wouldn't certainly pay 100 more euros for more fuckin 3gb to play at 1080p 60hz with just a little boost on the texture resolutions I just think that's dumb and too much money.
Thanks for all the suggestion that you perform in your video, I appreciated a lot your knowledge, referring about the topic of graphic cards. I'm in the time to buy my first one, not for play game but to work properly with After Effects and Premier Pro, quite uncertain about the choosing to do. I will try in your RUclips site if I meet something about. Nice to meet you in the net.
I agree with your explanation but the more vram the more textures, shading etc can be buffered. I think it also helps to be future proofed within reason.
Yuck Foutube Yeah, I'm thinking the 1050ti may capture that sweet spot of being a great budget card for years, like the 750ti was. I mentioned it because it's the perfect card for this channel to discuss.
I've just started in PC gaming with a PC that my friend gave me when he bought a new one. Its about 5 years old, i5 with VTX Radeon HD 7970 x-edition graphics card, 16gb of RAM. The 7970 is having some weird shader issues in GTA V (there's a video on my channel) that I just can't fix. This video has helped me decide that the 3gb EVGA 1060 SC is the card for me. Thank you! I really appreciate how you explain things so clearly without too much jargon. I also really appreciate your lack of jump cuts that seem to plague most RUclips review videos!
I bought the 3gb card on your advice. It struggles to run games from even 2013-2015 at medium quality at 1080p. Ryse: Son of Rome, Batman Arkham Knight are a couple of examples. I have 9600kf and the only bottleneck is the 3gb VRAM.
dual slot means it takes up two of the slots on the back of the case. but i think the dual in their naming in that instance refers to dual fans. it will also still take up 2 slots on the back of the case
Man, u r soo good in making understand ur listeners, and ur practical examples and the way and the tone u talk is so comfortable to listen for that long. Keep posting like this. Blessings
My first serious graphics card was a Radeon 7870, and it had 2GB of VRAM. Everyone at the time said 2GB is plenty. It wasn't even a year later that the 2GB of VRAM started limiting what games I could play and at what settings. The price difference isn't that big now ($200 vs $180), so I'll go with the 6GB for futureproofing reasons.
Just got mine for 300eu after taxes, never getting a low vram card ever again. Last card I had was the 960 2gb and had to lower some settings due to lack of vram, I hated that feeling cause it was seriously holding the card back. The 3gb model here is no improvement either, anyone thats thinking of getting one or the other, dont think, get the 6gb or youll definitely regret it because this card is pretty beast but I can already see that 3gb limit as a problem, most AAA games at ultra will require 4gb minimum, so whats the point in having a card that can withstand ultra easily but gets choked by the lack of vram. These days cards should be standard 6gb minimum, hell I would have gotten an 8gb model of there was.
13:09 I agree, but there is one thing I do disagree with: 80 percent of their *pc* market is gone, not their full market. We all know the game will sell very quick, *on consoles* I may even get it on my ps4 as I save for my first major purchase, my first desktop.
i know im 3 yrs late, but i truly think i have found my new review guy. this breakdown is just what i need. a tad bit long, but dammit its worth it. keep up the great work!! ill look for the review on the gtx 1660 super and ti.
I have to say keep up the good work. I rarely watch a video from beginning to end but all your videos are sooo full of valuable info I don't skip a second. Damn good work.
So.... My rig needs some help. CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 4.6Ghz GPU: Nvidia GeForece GTX 750Ti Now i already have a PSU with PCI express pins even though i don't use them. I was thinking of getting a GTX 980 or 1060 But in this video he mentions that "if you have an i7 you should be getting a 1070" HELP MEEEEEEEEE.........
go for the 1060 6gb or rx480 8gb. Not because the 3gb sucks, but if you can afford a 980 (which are like 260 bucks atm) you should go for the more _"future proof"_ cards.
That's almost as unbalanced for gaming as most pre-builds and laptops on the market :D You usually want your video card to be more expensive than your CPU. In your case you have very strong CPU therefore the least expensive video card which meets the criteria is GTX 1070 :) Just of curiosity how you made the decision to pair i7 4790 with GTX 750TI?
Wow Sir this opened me up, for the sensible economic analysis not sugar coating on specs, helps the decision making here in 2021..this breaks the wall of deciding between gaps of memory requirement and marketing. Thanks for this.
I know battlefield 1 hasn't been released yet, but I remember seeing some benchmarks at ultra detail using 3.2gb vram. Also, it was in beta, so things might change in the final release.
I have been pounding the keys for three days trying to decide on a video card upgrade. You can imagine the difficulty in absorbing and sorting the information available. That being said, I really appreciate your reviews. Things are understandable to me and the decision points I was on the fence with are now made. I will be coming here first from now on. Thanks!
I love the channel, but I have to disagree on not being able to tell the difference between 54 fps and 60 fps. On my 60 Hz screen I can notice a pretty big difference from anything 55 fps and below versus 60 fps. Maybe it's because I play with vsync on and always try to tailor settings to get a consistent 60 fps. Now 57 fps is close enough to 60 fps that I usually can't tell the difference unless I have a frame counter onscreen, but 54 fps I feel like I can catch most of the time. So many times I feel like I'm getting a frame drop and then I press the button I have setup for showing stats and the frame counter says 55 or 53 or something in that range.
It's normal - the best framerate is constant framerate. I'm ready to argue that 30 fps lock is better than fluctuating between 30 and 60 fps - our brain just can't adapt to the constant changes in fps that quickly. I remember the days when I played GTA San Andreas with frame limiter in the menu which caped to 25 fps (which was preferable because of the huge fluctuations in the framerate in different areas) and it still felt silky smooth because my brain got used to it :)
If I may give a couple of small Suggestions: - Graphs or Charts (even just below or above your head) - Icons in the corners or anywhere ("Important Point", or "Money/Saving Point", or "Tech Info") - some Cuts or Closeups of the Hardware as you talk about it perhaps (just to change up the camera angle/view) But as a Former Computer Service Technician who loves Hardware and Gaming, it was very nice to see so much helpful information from such a knowledgeable person! I wish your Channel much prosperity... Take care!
Here in Canada I bought a gtx 1060 3gb for a grand total of $239.99. It was on sale. 6gb was and STILL is 440-450 grand total I think. I didn't feel like it was worth the $200 price gap.
Wow, I love you man! I was about to buy the 6gb version of gtx 1060, but after watching your video... like... I feel that if I didn't watch this video, I'd waste money, which I can now spend on ram for example. Thank you for making this video :D
not really, as these cards are generally better than the 900 series, but cheaper, so the next thing up would be the 1070 which is quite a about 100ish more
watch dogs 2 at very high or ultra needs more than 3gb of vram. I'm probably going to go with the 6gb card because I have a GTX 960 SE with 2gb of vram and I want to play newer games at higher fps. Good video btw (i know watch dogs 2 was released after this video just pointing out)
Oh yea my evga 1060 6gb will be at my doorstep tomorrow :) I haven't been this excited since I was 10 on christmas morning. BTW thank you for making such informative and well constructed videos on this stuff. I recently got back into computers and built one 5 months ago and I haven't been so interested and passionate about something in years, and your videos have been very helpful. Can't wait to pull that 1050ti out of my rig, it didnt do my ryzen 1600x rig justice. It was a huge bottleneck on it and the rest of the stuff I have in my system (gigabyte aorus ax370 k5 gaming, evga 240mm clc, two crucial ssds, two seagate hdds 1tb and 2tb and a murdered out s340 elite) justice and let me use it to its full potential. It cant get here soon enough lol.
GTA V uses up to 6gb vram, probably more with full maxed settings. I'm sure plenty of other games do too, but most don't tell you how much they are using, you won't notice until your performance starts to suffer.
Nope. But I have a 4gb R9 290x, in the settings menu it tells you how much VRAM it is using. I can max my card out if I turn MSAA 8x, shadows, reflections, etc on the max settings. And it starts to take a performance hit before it uses all of my vram. So based on that, if you want to play max settings 1080p, that is EVERYTHING maxed, without risking frame rates dropping, you will probably want 6gb or more. Given that might not be as much of an issue with those new cards though, the faster cores will probably take some of the load off the vram. But even if that is the case, I would still not be recommending anyone buy a 3gb card and expect to be able to play everything maxed. And GTA V is not the most demanding game out there. It is demanding, but plenty of other games require more, especially if you get into early access where they are less well optimized.
1. MSAA 8x is silly, a total performance destroyer, but fair enough... 2. The VRAM in the settings window is just a guess, not an actual number 3. There is "max settings", then there is "silly settings" :) Hyper in Mirror's Edge Catalyst or Nightmare in Doom are two examples of "silly settings"
Hey, max is max. I mean, yeah I usually will say i'm running it at max, but i'm technically not. You really can't tell the difference aside from the frame rate, but those settings do still exist. But more important I think is, when you are advising someone on a GPU upgrade, you should probably take into account that they will want the best performance possible not only in today's games, but also games that are coming out several years from now. At least that's how I roll. I don't have an R9 290x because I'm a dumbass who decided it would be a good idea to buy a 5 year old GPU that still costs $500+. I have an R9 290x because I bought it 5 years ago, and don't see any point in flushing money down the toilet every year for the newer model.
I know very late comment on this video, but I really enjoyed it. I watch other channels like JayzTwoCents and GamersNexus and your video was much more informative. You really break down the price to performance aspect instead of just going after pure performance regardless of price. In this type of price range the main thing is price to performance I think for pretty much everyone. I really appreciate your video and helping me put my self at ease for getting the 1060 3GB. The other channels I watch all made it seem like a huge mistake, even though I only paid $160 for the 3GB version. I will definitely have to start checking back more regularly!
In India computer components are very expensive... Gtx 1060 6gb goes for 460$... Its so hard to have a budget pc built... A normal 1000$ build in Usa is a 2000$ build in India... So what do i do?
Dear tech deals , how much power does gigabyte GeForce gtx 1060 3gb consumes , The power supply in my desktop is 400 watt , does it require more , Thank you
Thank you, this video is perfect. I just bought the acer tc-780 and seeing all the upgrades you could do for it was the deciding factor. I was also trying to decide between the two graphics cards, thanks.
And some people say the 3GB (for 1080p) sucks lol, they need to watch this video. Also, you all have to know that while game developers/publishers try everything to make the game's system requirements as low as possible to get more customers as TechDeals saying here, the graphics card companies on the other hand of course want to sell more of their roducts as well to make money and to be better than the "enemy" (Nvidia > AMD, AMD > Nvidia). And i am sure that without consoles and all of this business thing and when everyone would be rich to buy the best PC hardware, we would have games with much bigger worlds, more realism, photrealism graphics and the ability in Grand Theft Auto to enter ALL buildings and having more than 100.000 different vehicles, because the technology can, but the companies won't do that. And now they even produce and sell cards with 11GB!!! Who or what the hell needs 11GB VRAM? None, but this is just a marketing tactic to make people believe "11GB VRAM is 1000 times faster and better" and the winner is not the customer, it is the company for getting $$$. Great video, thanks for that! I'm of course getting the 3GB GTX 1060!
Oligampla This is sad but true. Majority of consumers are not geek like us. 9/10 out of people I've met in real life believe in something like GTX 1050ti 4GB is better than GTX 980 4GB just because 10 series> 7 series and RX 480 8GB is twice faster than RX 480 4GB. LOL They just look for the card with latest series and highest amount of VRAM. The graphics card companies know this really well and taking advantage of it.
FYI, 11GB will benefit those who using GPU not for gaming, like for Deep Learning (AI) which is booming right now. currently it's largely using Nvidia cards (which where CUDA only could run on). i'm sure that graphics card company also considering this new market
i was bottlenecked by vram on 2gb 750ti.. so i am always gonna go for the card that has more vram because having some gpu overhead is not that bad as some people make it sound....
Great video, a real eyeopener. I was looking for a best buy offer of the 1060 chipset and you convinced me to buy the 3GB version instead of the 6GB. I actually checked your remarks about the 10% speed loss and it is correct in the benchmarks! But, I play on an 1440p monitor and what I saw was the drop in performance when on the highest level of detail. I will just put the settings a little bit lower or set in on 1080p. I can't sell it to myself to spend 100 euro more for 3 extra GB's memory or spend even 300 euro's more for a 1070 version.
Absolutely loved this video, however, it has been almost one whole year since this upload, do you still believe that the 3 GB variant is all someone will need? or Do you think the 6 GB is the better buy? I want to know especially because I am working on a VR Build and want to know if those 3 extra gigabytes are worth it. Thanks! :D
I had 1 GB 7850. It ran all the steam game without any problem. But when I played NFS payback. I knew I was doomed. The game played fine on low setting during the story mode. But the multi player is unplayable. So bought 1060 6gb for future proofing my system. Gonna upgrade my processor and Mobo soon if I see any bottleneck :)
3GB isn't future proof. Tripple A games like 'Star Citizen' wich is still in developement uses about 3.5GB for example. I got the 6GB version becuase I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.
There are many games that uses more than 3gb vram on ultra 1080p in 2016 lol.. Almost every new games use more than that.. Doom, battlefield 1,Forza horizon 3, gta 5, gears of War 5, mirror's edge catalyst etc etc.. And in 2017 we might see every single (graphics intensive) games use more than 3gb vram lol (Talking about maxed out settings)
I think in a lot of games the engine is designed to use as much VRAM as possible. Take Gears 4 for instance, it will happily use over 5 gigs of VRAM at 4k, but a Fury X will run fine with a bit under 4 GB being used, without a visual downgrade. The same thing can be seen in RoTR, where it will use basically all the memory you have, but the cards with smaller memory sizes don't suffer at all. This is because modern games are designed to use the memory smartly, using as much as possible. Think of it as an i7 vs i5, most games will use 8 threads happily nowadays, but that doesn't necessarily mean you will have a CPU bottleneck on your hands, you will most likely be hitting a GPU limit, unless you have a top of the line card, in which case you wouldn't really have a dilemma as to which version of a mid-range card you want to pick. Similarly, I doubt you will have many situations in which the 3GB of the 1060 will be a bottleneck maintaining 1080p60, unless you are running a higher resolution or frame rate, in which case a larger memory would obviously be beneficial. TLDR; games will use as much VRAM as possible, but that doesn't mean that memory will be a bottleneck if it is less than the maximum amount the game can utilize.
The tone and expressions you use to explain your videos are like you are talking to a bunch of idiots. And you are absolutely right! keep the videos coming
Ha! I like the part about the difference is mostly psychological. My other rig has a 1050 and I spent several months regretting not getting the 1050TI even though that would make little to no actual difference. Hence my recent purchase of the 6 GB version of this card lol. Great video.
do not listen to anyone who tells you to get the 3gb version, this guy has clearly no gaming experience and no idea what he is talking about. Get the 6gb version, nothing less and you shall thank me later. Just sold my 1060 3gb to get a 1070 (lost 50 bucks in the process but, meh whatever at least i can max out most games without worrying about vram)
*UPDATE* - I have filmed an updated version of this video, shorter and with 23 benchmarks included
ruclips.net/video/3X0hX_U7Pik/видео.html
*Please checkout the new video linked here, lots of info on these 2 cards* and the cards above and below it (1050/1070)
Tech Deals thanks, this vid was very helpful!
Is the asus rog strix gtx 1060 dc2o6g any good?
Will watch next thanks.
my i please ask, Does Rise of the Tomb Raider use more than 3GB RAM? because it was released October 2016, but there's a huge difference in FPS between the 3GB & 6GB when playing it.
I'm looking to get into streaming and content creation will the step down to save 50 bucks worth it for me and will it have an impact on my able to stay smooth and fluid?
this Dudes teeth brighter than my future
ah fuck you dude now i cant stop looking at this teeth LOL
brokenhalo2001 i know how you feel lul
LOL!!!
They are dentures
Dota 2 FACTZ LOL
This is how you explain so that even 5 years old could understand! good job
Why are you EVERYWHERE?
shit, I wish the 6gb card was still $260
SKULL0FD3ATH same
why the fuck does it cost so much more now?
redanarchy baby etherium mining
you can order it off of EVGA's base price point though on their website, just wont be able to use newegg
i saw 2 on tweakers for $300 but thats still kinda pricey since the 3gb is only $200
UPDATE 2 - While I've been sick, I can't help but mess around with these things... :)
I've been trying various GTA V settings out, including my first use of ShadowPlay recording, which I don't like because it affects the performance, but it isn't as bad as I thought it might be...
Before I get to the GTX 1060 cards... here is my game computer from home:
Intel i5-6500
16GB RAM
EVGA GTX 970 FTW
H170
1080p - ShadowPlay is taking about 5% of the overall performance, sometimes as little as 3%, but I'm calling it 5% as I've seen that from time to time.
4K - ShadowPlay is taking 10% of the performance and this is fairly steady.
1080p - Very High - FXAA - Recording Off - Avg 91 - Min 66 - Max 132
1080p - Very High - FXAA - Recording On - Avg 86 - Min 57 - Max 120
4K - High - No FXAA - Recording Off - Avg 61 - Min 43 - Max 78
4K - High - No FXAA - Recording On - Avg 55 - Min 38 - Max 71
I've run these multiple times and tested other settings to see how repeatable they are... Now I'm going to stick the 1060 cards in and compare... Not sure when I'll upload the videos, I want to do a voice over and I'm still sick, but there are some results from the 970 FTW card (running at EVGA's shipped FTW speed)
you should try to be more confident, I don't want to sound like an idiot as I know its hard to do but it would increase your quality quite a lot. either way great vid
fkin hope so. i got 16 gm ram since 5 years ago
For $20 the 6GB version is worth it all day long. The difference was $50 when they launched...
hi,
thanks a ton for such a great video which helped a lot for me to make decision to buy even 1060 6gb sc but my problem is that I don't understand this technical stuff at all so I need your little more help.... I have motherboard Gigabyte H81M-S1.... and it says it have 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16
2 x PCI Express x1 slots
(The PCI Express slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.) ... so will this card work with this?????
I'm thinking of starting a new channel; "Tech Meals".
The channel will consist mostly of me preparing spaghetti using water salvaged from faulty GPU water coolers.
Do you think this would be a fruitful endeavor?
lmao go ahead
Sure
And you could cook eggs on top of an AMD CPU
Can i do tech bleach which would be about me washing crap with bleach?
Good idea-
Bleach? What are you doing here? Lol
Awesome, the 3GB version now costs 460$ and 500$ for the 6GB one. Mining is such a blessing
Shdow 89 on new egg is $349 for the 6 gb version RIGHT NOW , i just got one before it goes out of stock
I just bought a 1060 G1 gaming 6GB card for 194$
Foxmakemodels don't buy second hand video cards.
Hans Smith yes buy secondhand lol
Hans Smith don’t fall for that brand new card bullshit, and performance degradation bullshit, it’s not true.
Dude, I love the way you explain all this. I used to have difficulties understanding some videos before subscribing to you. You just explain it very clearly. I appreciate all your hard work. I think you deserve way more subscribers. Thanks so much again. The RUclips community has become a better place with you.
He really excels at clarity. A joy to listen to!
NyxDragon it's also his gestures, it makes the explanation more interesting somehow!
You coudn't express it better, man. I really love his devotion to smallest details in analysis. His movies are really helpful, I am really happy finding this channell. Well done! Keep a good work! BTW I buy 1060 6GB for 1440p playing. :)
NyxDragon news reporter weather man material😂 but no, he is very good at explaining I understand so much more clearly now :)
Best tech channel, and yes the PSYCHOLOGICAL worry about buying gear especially technology is real and is (i'd say) 80% causing the regret on buying something a bit cheaper, while 20% MAY be the performance. Very smart of you talking about it. +1sub
I think he just overclock my brain 😂
UPDATE 3 - I've finished editing some benchmark and performance videos.
First time, no voice on them, I'm still sick, but you've all waited long enough, so lots of words on the screen. :) Not to worry, this won't be forever, but for now... it is what I've got.
A few hours, they should be up...
Tech Deals get well, bro
Tech Deals I really appreciate your videos. Its really help me out. Thank you.
How about Zotac 1060 3Gb Mini GPU? Where i live, its lot more cheaper than EVGA. Should i go with Zotac?
get well soon buddy!

School was a pain in the pass, this aint.

UPDATE - I had hoped to have benchmark videos up already, but I've been sick the past two days... I may end up sticking the cards into a computer at home to do some full screen benchmarks, since I may not be back to the office this week...
Get well man!
No problem at all man, get well soon!
gta 1080p on ultra is using 4gb of vram of my 1060 6gb
Lipe Lel No, its not using 4gb, its allocating it, VRam and RAM usage depends on how much is available, my 4gb card uses 3gb of VRam on GTA
Thanks for the kind words! :)
Surprised that there's no comment saying there IS one game (which should be known too) that needs 6GB of VRAM for Ultra detail;
Shadow of Mordor.
Even so, benchmarks shows that it tends to use only up to 4, the 6 may be for 'security'.
Other than that, 6GB of VRAM can be a big future proof, so it just MAY be worth getting, although not for another 50, Nvidia is just too damn greedy nowadays.
215Days Late reply but I actually got stuttering on ultra texture with my 4gb RX 480 until I set it to high (recommended at least 3gb of vram)
215Days Rainbow six siege offer ultra setting for 3,4 gb
215Days Dont forget AC, those games use 3-4gb on high to ultra.
Ghost Recon Wildlands on Ultra just straight up eats VRAM. lol
it shouldn't be a surprised that no one mention about it bcoz, he mention that games currently released in 2016...shadow of mordor is a 2014 game
anyway, yeah that game do required a lot of vram for textures etc
hello and welcome to Tech deals !! Best intro :)
I chose the GTX 1060 3gb mainly because it plays all the games I WANT to play. By the time most games require more than 3gb of vram to play on high there will already be a new gpu at the $200 range such as gtx 1160 or rx 580.
i mean in all honesty, buying a 6gb will probably only save you like half a year before you feel the need to upgrade, if that (compared to 3gb)
yeah, besides in my country the price difference is $70-$80 or more...that's quite huge for many people.....as vram capacity relation with future gaming, like you said, you either buy new GPUs or there can always be compromise in settings
depends on prices in each country, 3gb cost me 289 coins
and 6 gb 310 coins.
The I'd go for the 6gb 310 coins.
Yeah but we have no guarantee they're going to be good or cheap or even work with your Psu by them
In my country the 6gb is 100 euros more expensive... it's just bs.
5 October 2023
My 1060 6gb and i5-8400 still holding up since june 2018
its so cool your details and so simple to understand thanks
Thanks for all the suggestion that you perform in your video, I appreciated a lot your knowledge, referring about the topic of graphic cards. I'm in the time to buy my first one, not for play game but to work properly with After Effects and Premier Pro, quite uncertain about the choosing to do. I will try in your RUclips site if I meet something about. Nice to meet you in the net.
I agree with your explanation but the more vram the more textures, shading etc can be buffered. I think it also helps to be future proofed within reason.
In retrospect, the 6GB card turned out to be the better choice. Live and learn. :)
@@TechDeals I wouldnt have thought things wouldve changed so much in the years coming either

Same.
I think the same thing every video oh his I watch.
I can't wait to hear your review of the 1050 Ti when it comes out!!!
Did you recently buy a 1070? I doubt it will.
Yuck Foutube Yeah, I'm thinking the 1050ti may capture that sweet spot of being a great budget card for years, like the 750ti was. I mentioned it because it's the perfect card for this channel to discuss.

Tfw watch 3 years old video because I am stressed and this guy's voice and explications about pc parts calms me down.
I ended up with the 3gig version because of this mofo , and I regret it sooo much, it's a terrible card in 2020

Is there a difference between superclocked evga models and overclocked asus models or are they just different terms for the same thing?
Different terms for the same thing, they all run about the same speed... buy the one you like...
What about the asus gtx 1060 dual? On specs it says the slot width is dual slot, does that mean i need to pci express slots?
dual slot means it takes up two of the slots on the back of the case. but i think the dual in their naming in that instance refers to dual fans. it will also still take up 2 slots on the back of the case
That is mindblowing... No games at 1080p on Ultra uses more than 3GB VRAM? I'm playing all of my games at ultra then! (Recently bought a 1060 3GB)
how's that going for you?
That doesn't mean that the gpu is able to play them at reasonable frame rates, but just that the 3gb won't be less playable than the 6gb.
I just bought one too! I haven't constructed my computer yet, so let me know how that's running :D
Its running well! Witcher 3 at 57 fps average, but I'm guessing thats because it couldn't hit 60 cuz of my i3 6100. Worth my money tho xD
Zaril Boo That's awesome news. Glad you got your money's worth, this helped a ton as well! 57 fps at which settings?

Lesson I learned from this video : always spend the extra money and get the GPU with more VRAM, ever.
What about the 3060 vs 3060TI?

One of the best review channels I've ever seen. Not just for computer hardware, but across other industries as well. Nice job!
My first serious graphics card was a Radeon 7870, and it had 2GB of VRAM. Everyone at the time said 2GB is plenty. It wasn't even a year later that the 2GB of VRAM started limiting what games I could play and at what settings. The price difference isn't that big now ($200 vs $180), so I'll go with the 6GB for futureproofing reasons.
wtf only dolars here where i live have 50-70 euros and have 300euro and more
In The Netherlands, the price of the cheapest OC 3GB 1060 is about 210 euro's. The 6GB version is about 300 euro's.
s0012823. I just buy evga oc 1060 6gb 307 euro by mistake from their site .they had it 380euro 😛
MythicalSnake I am from Greece all 1060 6gb costs 340-400 euro and 1060 3gb 240 -300 .I was lucky
Tech Deals makes a good point, however he forgets that 80% doesn't necessarily care about ultra settings all of the time
i know im 3 yrs late, but i truly think i have found my new review guy. this breakdown is just what i need. a tad bit long, but dammit its worth it. keep up the great work!! ill look for the review on the gtx 1660 super and ti.
Hey TechDeals if you haven't done it yet, can you do a 470 4GB vs 1060 3GB?

Onion Rings bud 480 is slower then 1060 so 470 has no chance!

So.... My rig needs some help.
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 4.6Ghz
GPU: Nvidia GeForece GTX 750Ti
Now i already have a PSU with PCI express pins even though i don't use them. I was thinking of getting a GTX 980 or 1060
But in this video he mentions that "if you have an i7 you should be getting a 1070"
HELP MEEEEEEEEE.........
go for the 1060 6gb or rx480 8gb. Not because the 3gb sucks, but if you can afford a 980 (which are like 260 bucks atm) you should go for the more _"future proof"_ cards.
That's almost as unbalanced for gaming as most pre-builds and laptops on the market :D
You usually want your video card to be more expensive than your CPU. In your case you have very strong CPU therefore the least expensive video card which meets the criteria is GTX 1070 :)
Just of curiosity how you made the decision to pair i7 4790 with GTX 750TI?
You got a prebuilt didn't you?

I am the same way.
however, if you are comparing the 6gb vs 3gb at a 60fps cap or vsync then chances are you will still hit that cap.
If I may give a couple of small Suggestions:
- Graphs or Charts (even just below or above your head)
- Icons in the corners or anywhere ("Important Point", or "Money/Saving Point", or "Tech Info")
- some Cuts or Closeups of the Hardware as you talk about it perhaps (just to change up the camera angle/view)
But as a Former Computer Service Technician who loves Hardware and Gaming, it was very nice to see so much helpful information from such a knowledgeable person!
I wish your Channel much prosperity... Take care!

Here's a question. Is there a better jump you can make for 50 dollars.
probably not
not really, as these cards are generally better than the 900 series, but cheaper, so the next thing up would be the 1070 which is quite a about 100ish more
You actually nailed it
yes , buy lube
50 dollars will get you 256GB of extra SSD storage.
watch dogs 2 at very high or ultra needs more than 3gb of vram. I'm probably going to go with the 6gb card because I have a GTX 960 SE with 2gb of vram and I want to play newer games at higher fps. Good video btw (i know watch dogs 2 was released after this video just pointing out)

It cant get here soon enough lol.
7:30 Lucky if you bought a 1060 6GB and now you're in 2019. Many games now uses more than 3GB of VRAM
GTA V uses up to 6gb vram, probably more with full maxed settings. I'm sure plenty of other games do too, but most don't tell you how much they are using, you won't notice until your performance starts to suffer.
Have you looked at the GTA V videos I posted on 3GB vs 6GB?
It really doesn't...
2. The VRAM in the settings window is just a guess, not an actual number
I have an R9 290x because I bought it 5 years ago, and don't see any point in flushing money down the toilet every year for the newer model.
seriously? MSAA?

Making mistakes is human, owning them and making corrections is commendable behaviour though.
Oligampla loom
See the benchmark about the 3GB vs the 6GB version in DOOM.
i was bottlenecked by vram on 2gb 750ti.. so i am always gonna go for the card that has more vram because having some gpu overhead is not that bad as some people make it sound....
Thanks! :D
+InSaiyanArtz Neither, for VR I would get a GTX 1080
Thanks for the advice, and the fast response!
I think GTA V uses more than 3 GB VRAM on 1080p Ultra Details :P
Forza horizon 3 uses more than 4gb XD
Reccomended on steam. Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD 7870 2GB
gears of war 4 uses like 5.06 GB of vram
on my pc GTA V uses 3.8G of VRAM on ultra 1080
this card is for people on a budget
Subbed! I so agree with you.. as a tech loving person.. i want to maximize every tech i have either expensive or not.
Guys, I've looked and thus far, there's only 1 or 2 games out there that use more than 3 GBs of VRAM.
What I need to know is, How will the 3gb hold up for vr gaming? And will it hold up for vr gaming for the next 3 years?
Oculus Rift selling like hot cakes... Please tell me when is it going to fail...
Headlands Garden Supply Mutkala he is talking about 1080p gaming
It has the recommended specs for vr gaming with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. I think it handles low at least.
Cant believe i've never seen this channel before. I like this guys style. Subscribed
The 1060 6gb in laptops makes the laptop a lot more expensive than the 1060 3gb variant.
You are doing gods work and I thank you for that
ridiculously detailed descriptions. Great job !!!! Love it !!!
I watched this video like 20 times even tho i already bought a gtx 1060.. its just so good!
The way he explains stuff!!
Thanks a lot for all these infos!
And in 2017 we might see every single (graphics intensive) games use more than 3gb vram lol
(Talking about maxed out settings)
agreed
show me
I think in a lot of games the engine is designed to use as much VRAM as possible.
+Rohit Beerapalli 3 gb vram is ok for 1080 p.
Which is literally what i just said.
Such clarity! You have made videos which i exactly wanted !
Much thanks.
9:05
That made it simple😂
Thanks lol
that s why I like this channel more cause it says the true words of gamers
Subscribed! Love the detailed explanations and the no nonsense approach. Thanks for all your hard work!
i have one question in mind, why do you always use a black shirt ?
Rey as he said in the video. He is on the budget most of the time, so that's why. He doesn't have money to buy a new shirt
dwl
Maybe he's got tattoos
He has a white background so the contrast in videos look better and professional.
His teeth get brighter as his clothing gets darker
Buy a 480. Probably not better, but AMD doesn't lie about its cards' name.
cicalinarrot it's name? what so it can play games at 480 p in the future?
nice theory, I'm getting a 7970.
Great card for dx12 I LOVE AMD even though I own a 1060 480 is a great card for its price
Dude! I love your take on the reviewing process! Thumbs up!
This video is helpful
I'll go for the deal and bought the 3gb card.. medium/high settings is good enough for me.
Valentino A I'm stuck with 3gb, on my laptop :(
i have found my new favorite channel. Keep it up Man!
great video but I bought the MSI gtx 1070
nice
SJ shoulda saved your money, yo. 1080TI coming, gotta resell and get that in a few months
not worth it price to performance
T. Scott those last two lines were so beautiful
SJ how much did u get that one for
The tone and expressions you use to explain your videos are like you are talking to a bunch of idiots. And you are absolutely right! keep the videos coming
+potatomonkey snufflebums 😀
Harrison Jones you sir need help
you realize this was posted in 2016 right?
