C Mixolydian Jam | BACKING TRACK

  • Backing track in the key of C Mixolydian. The jam is similar to the jam section in the Jerry Garcia Band song "Lonesome And A Long Way From Home." (Hint: My Bona Fide Lick #1 video is a great lick to play over this backing track).
    The entire track alternates between one bar of C and one bar of Bb. I've added a fretboard diagram outlining C Mixolydian over the entire fretboard. Once you have the Mixolydian mode down, try targeting chord tones, using arpeggios, adding in both the major and minor pentatonic scales for added flavor. Most of all, have fun!!

    Let me know if you want more backing tracks like this - jams that allow you to practice different modes or playing over certain chord progressions.

      Oh yes, please! These make nice complements to the songs they derive from, it’s great to use these for more focused lead ideas 😁🙏🏼 Thanks so much for making them!

    The secret here is you can play c minor pentatonic blues. Combined with c mixolydian. Mixolydian is what ac/dc mostly used. And this combination of scales is why I love this track more than most single scale tracks.

    Mixolydian is the mode on the 5th note of the Major scale, so an easy way to think about this is if you want to play in C Mixolydian, go down a perfect 5th to F, and play F major (or if you are in C Major, slide your fingers down 7 frets or up 5 frets to find it). You can play F Major pentatonic, but it sounds best if you add in the other Major scale tones.

      Triad pairs, diatonic arpeggios, intervalic ideas, major and minor pentatonic and blues scales; the list goes on. Really, your imagination is the limit.

      Of course - which I'm also creating a backing track for. The idea of course is to be comfortable all over the fretboard in every key!

    You asked about anyone wanting more multi scale mountain jam high or straight headed pull all ya got type of rhythms as such.... can I have sum more please? I love the surprising turn of events it takes me besides the ears listening that have there assumptions...and how they're a bit perplexed of what I'm doing n what key I'm in. I'd show n tell, but they use the excuse that I'm left handed n can't follow...like, ahh...I've done that from the start. Including chord charts n the oddness of following sheet music n tabs headin' the wrong way on me, haha....They're from the days of "it's uncool to read music". By ear they say. I have to use me ears too. Silly memorizers. Yeah more. Country or folks or if blues/rock works with mixolydian. I use maj n min in some so.... self taught w/ help from mags n some older dudes that let me sort it out. Thanx for a place to vent alittle too. A couple points that I think some will relate to. I'm 50 n learning more lately than the last 15 years it seems. RUclips beats tuning up to the cassette or tabletops pitch back when. Thanx again. I shut up. Love n light to all ya! Now vibrate some strings.

    isn't this in A?? Key is more of A to me than C

    • @WeepingWillowGuitarLessons
      @WeepingWillowGuitarLessons  2 года назад

      Why do you feel it's in A? Try playing an A major scale over it - it sounds awful.
      It's C mixolydian (all the notes come from the parent scale of F major).

      I think A# Major/Ionian is an appropriate fit. Try arpeggiating that.
