    When a singer pours their whole heart and soul into a song, it's magic. Eddie Vedder is one of these singers. Jeremy and Alive are a must hear.

    • @saltedllama2759
      @saltedllama2759 3 года назад

      Maybe when they first wrote and performed it. After hundreds of recordings, edits, rewrites, concerts, etc, that same emotion doesn't exist anymore. Even here. The reason it's like this is because he's a performer. It's a PERFORMANCE. That's what separates the artists who succeed from the ones who don't. Countless people can write and play and sing, but if they can't make it believable and relatable - like an actor - they will never get very far.

    Pearl Jam’s lead singer, Eddie Vedder is so unique. Aside from his great voice, he has a gift; conveying raw and gritty emotion in every song he performs. He is a gem.

    It’s not an illness.
    He’s singing about losing an actual soulmate, and hints at his own culpability in where things went wrong.
    This isn’t a song about mental illness: it’s a song about the agony that the raw loss of a love deeper than anything he’s ever known, and will ever know again, and the toll it will take on him for the rest of his life.

    “Jeremy”, their most acclaimed song, is riveting. But be forewarned: It’s disturbing. When Pearl Jam came out with this, MTV wouldn’t touch it until 3 years later. It’s a true story. All said, I recommend you check it out. You must watch the official video.

"Even Flow" live performance at PINKPOP 1992 will show you a totally different side of the band. "Jeremy" official video (uncensored version) is powerful and can be hard to watch for some due to the subject matter. Good reaction Harri.

    This song is filled with a simple metaphor...took me about 30 years to get it.
    She is the Sun (a star) and he is the Earth. Making someone the center of your universe in that way is not good.
    The Earth requires the Sun for survival. The Sun doesn't need the Earth.
    It's so obvious once you get it. End of the day it's unrequited love.

    Its her clay and canvas that are laid out before him, like her art stuff she left behind when they broke up.. when it used to be her. All thats left are the pictures, all turned black, with sadness in his life... Thats now tatooed in his heart. EXTREMELY POWERFUL performance...

    As someone who has dealt with depression for years I can say that well meaning friends and family have tried to reach out when things were bad for me. While the reasoning side of your brain is always functioning, your ability to really enact change is very difficult. It is like hearing voices when you are under water, you can hear it, but it just doesn't reach you. It really takes going to get help and that really only works if you have a moment of clarity. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

  • @mememe733
    @mememe733 2 года назад

    The first time I have heard depression mentioned by someone reacting to this song.
    Your story about your friend suddenly reminded me of two similar stories from my youth. A guy I knew lost his brother due to suicide after his wife left him. He was an alcoholic and for years she did everything she could to be there for him, but it just wore her down until she couldn’t live like that anymore, no matter how much she loved him.
    It didn’t happen right away, not until she met someone new, then he completely lost it, broke into her home while she was at work and killed himself with a knife in the heart. She came home and found him lying dead in her bed. It completely destroyed her and she didn’t deserve that.
    The other case happened to my friend when she was 19, she had been seeing this guy for a very short time (a matter of weeks) but wanted to break up with him because he was insanely jealous and way too intense, to the point that she felt scared of him. He told her that he would kill himself if she broke up, which understandably freaked her out, but thankfully she did it anyway because this guy was on a whole other level. He actually sent her a letter (it was before cell phones and internet) telling her that he was going to kill himself and that it was her fault that he died. Not only that, he sent a letter to his own mother telling her to call my friend (he included her number) whom she had never met, if she wanted to know why he killed himself and who was to blame. After mailing these letters he then drove to a forest and gassed himself in his car.
    Turns out his crazy was hereditary because his mom proceeded to call my friend repeatedly and blame her for the death of her son. My friend eventually had to change her phone number to a new unlisted one.
    Not an easy situation to handle when you are only 19 years old.
    Yes, these men were clearly suffering from mental health issues and were obviously distraught, but they also had a lot of rage/anger, that they took out on their former partners in a very disturbing way.

    I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and I absolutely love the song. You can enjoy the catharsis of someone expressing your pain so beautifully. Not just appreciate but actually enjoy immersing yourself in the grief that sometimes just needs to come out somehow. I teared up by your story, and afterwards you feel a cathartic relief of having shed that water out of your body because it needed release.
    You shouldn't define yourself by a tragedy in your life - as your friend appears to have ended up doing - but you shouldn't shy away from acknowledging it either. Be able to cry your eyeballs out in the face of it, and feel better for it.
    The root of bitterness is years of built-up frustration never allowed the occasional vent. That's how you grow old and become Scrooge.

    For a softer side to Eddie Vedder's voice ( the lead singer),, please check out his cover of "Trouble" filmed live and more recent. His band Pearl Jam was one of the most passionate of the grunge bands -- equal I would only say to Alice in Chains. They went from tame and dark like this one to wild and out of control back in the day (90s). Thankfully, we still have Eddie Vedder alive and still performing today as well as David Grohl (from Nirvana). We have lost most of the others. Depression and addiction have always been such major issues.... but the grunge movement really took it on, lived it, sang about it, and in the end helped many people letting them know they were not alone, too bad we couldn't help the singers and musicians that passed from it......I am sorry about your friend, Harri, I pray he found his peace.

    @11:24, YES, Eddie Vedder (the singer) wrote this song after his first love whom he'd been with since sophomore year in high school, and then lived with him, shortly after he was called to be the singer of what's now Pearl Jam called him n just basically said (I want to see other people)...he had thought of killing himself but thankfully he is still with us....although the band and Eddie tried very hard to keep this song off of the album 'Ten' because they knew it killed him n took him back there every time he sang it, the record label refused and put it in anyways. And Eddie was already a pretty shy person n stuff so I think that just made matters worse for him but, he's an amazing person still..and still stands up for what's right etc!😥😘
    P.s. That entire album is simply nothing short of amazing though!

    I love how much careful coffee situation you give during your reactions. It's not something that you get from every person in this genre of RUclips video. If I may, I would like to comment on something that you said the end of the video.
    The statement View made was something to the effect of ' we are not here we made sad we are here to enjoy music'. As far as can be shown by any studies, music appears to be something written into the nature of humanity. Something about music is an Express and Central part of The Human Experience. The Human Experience is not always happy. One of the special things that music does two packages up all states of the human mind, sometimes enjoy but sometimes anger or fear or sorrow. When we listen to a song we are listening to a package of emotions that are brought To Us by the performer. Did we listen to a song and it gives us the feeling that were packaged in then we are getting from the music what the musicians intended. Sometimes, music makes us sad or afraid or angry as it was supposed to do and in those cases we are enjoying the music. We may not enjoy the feelings or we may enjoy that the feelings come and pass but experiences with music gives us a greater sense of depth. We enjoy complexity of Being Human. When we are feeling some of the negative emotions of humanity, my song like this can help us realized that other people feel as we have felt. We feel less alone. We feel more human. It is my opinion that we can listen to a song, the song can make us feel sad, and still enjoy the music.
