- Part 1 of Ultimate Adventure 2017. Ever hear of a day when it’s literally too hot for airplanes to fly? That was the top news story across the country the day Ultimate Adventure 2017 began in Phoenix, Arizona. And epic heat wave or not, the event must go on. After all, Ultimate Adventure is always an extreme test of both man and machine. With the thermometer hovering around 127 degrees the group pulled out with trial leader Trent McGee leading the way and Editor Christian Hazel putting the very first miles on the newly finished Cummins-powered UACJ-6D Ultimate Adventure Jeep. With the Table Mesa trail in its crosshairs the group got out of the city as fast as it could, locked the hubs, aired down the tires, and go to ‘wheeling. The terrain features razor sharp rocks and sketchy ledge climbs which the served as a perfect introduction to what the rest of the week would hold. Before the day would end we’d have plenty of near-vertical waterfall climbs, big-throttle attacks, trail repairs, welding, body damage, and some fun pranks. And as always, Day One was just a warm-up for more challenges to come. Unlike UA2016, the heat didn’t claim any victims and nobody wound up in a hospital emergency room. These guys are so mellow. They don’t even look like they are having that much fun. I know they are having a blast but it almost seems like they are bored.
I’m gonna go re watch a couple of my old UA dvds from when it was a wheeling video with a couple of commercials and not the other way around. I know bills have to be paid but some of this stuff on motor trend is a bit much. Hopefully the rest of the week can be more action less talk now that the driver intros are all done.

If you actually watched the build before now, Verne wanted the axles it had underneath of it, so they worked out a plan where he could keep the chassis, in exchange for building the jeep

I'm convinced that Motor Trend is selling itself out more and more each episode. The switch to On Demand was reasonable, but the blatant advertisements and endorsements are painful to get through.

I have to agree. If I'm paying for the subscription generally you'd think they could limit the sponsor whoring. I cancelled my subscription a little while back. Too few new episodes a month and a lot of sponsor whoring

Y'all should have ran the trails in Florence Junction on day one, then Table Mesa on day two. You missed out on some amazing scenery and hardcore rock crawling by not hitting Florence.

As a dedicated fan of UA I'm gonna watch no matter what but I have to say, so far I am not impressed with this year. It all just seems staged and read from a script. I'm gonna watch the rest but. if this is how UA is gonna turn out to be from now I and several other viewers are not gonna be too happy.

Lower terminator is a nasty trail i put body damage all along the passenger side of my jeep.in there's upper terminator in it's even more nuts then lower.i love seeing u guys doing this in my neck of the woods.

Didnt read through the comments really, but the XJ guy should have seriously put some hood vents on that thing. I mean come on:
1. Its an XJ, you can look at it and it will overheat
2. I know they are in Arizona, but anything, anything at all to get heat out of those cramped engine bays is a big help.

Why the double headsets vs the single headsets to hear the sounds or others guiding you. Do you just use for highway.. or do you use them on the trails.
I freakin love the paint and overall patina!!! Although here in new england that body would last 5 minutes especially with the new improved liquid salt they pretreat roads with!! PURE CAR CANCER!!!!
