Oh-My-Gosh!!! Mind blown!! I've been modeling steam locomotives for years (one of while is shown in Donley's new book edition) and I have struggled mightily with rivets, bolts and screw heads. I had no idea you could do this. Whoa, what a huge skill builder. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
So yeah - follow-up: what does "cut opening" do? Couldn't figure it out so far. And: Can you edit the components glue-to properties later on or do I need to destroy the component if I made a mistake?
Thanks - I'm one of those confused by the glue to properties, but no more :) Smart to put the axis origin in the center of the component (could have saved some effort tho if you just done it once on the "prototype") And finally a question: You said the dome was created withe follow me tool, why not just promote the handy "Sketchup Shapes" extension?
Hi Aaron, something related: how do you snap a cylindrical fitting exactly in a round hole where it needs to fit ? It has a surface perpendicular to the cylinder's axis, which needs to snap to a surface of a water heating boiler. Problem is how to put it so centers will be aligned ? Many many thanks !
Aaron.. Many SKUP animations on web. But none seem to show the moving position of RR loco from down the track to closer position.. I've made two scenes in SKUP animation. FAR and NEAR. Cannot play 1 and then the other, What am I missing w/ SKUP Pro? Your thoughts?
Scene animations do not move assets (in web or on desktop). Scene animations move the camera from one scene to another. If you want o animate geometry inside SketchUp, you are most likely to find a solutoin with an extension on desktop.
Is there a way to define a height or level basis. For let's say your building is 3 stories high and you want to place an object on ground level, and copy it to floor # 3? A refference level or something.
ah fantastic stuff. learning something new each time. this video made me think, a checkbox called "multiple" would be good to place an instance of a component with each click in the main view. does this exist anywhere?
Is there any way if I'm resizing a component it would automatically resize an other? Like if I'm designing a cupboard, and resizing the corpus, it would automatically resize shelves, drawers etc along with it?
Just double click to enter the component and change the size of the geometry on the inside. Doing so will cause the change to be applied to all instances of the at component!
What would happen if I glue one to a particular surface of another component and the change an axis of its host. Will it follow or retain its original orientation? Hum, something I’ll have to try. Cool vid Aaron. And Tee shirt
I wish you'd given the tip to lay the component flat in your previous More Components (ruclips.net/video/TDzjrrA26gM/видео.html) as I've had the devil's own job trying to adjust the axes to the back/side/top faces as you demonstrated. Just now tried the laying flat on the floor for all and it works a treat, so no more swearing when it won't align properly on the face. Another great demo!

Thank you very much for this video, you have a way of making things easier to understand.
Another good pro tip video on non obvious sketchup functionality!
This is one of those subjects that maybe should be taught first! I spend a lot of time fiddling with plane placement.
Really like your style of teaching.
And I really like your style of commenting! Thank you!
Very good lesson, i think you are the best in basic Sketchup.

Thanks Aaron, I guess we're all Glued up after that excellent demonstration of this cool component feature. 😜
Thanks Aaron! Yet another video that makes my life easier. Nice one :)

Tremendous knowledge!! Keep up the good work!

Thank you that is very helpful to know.
Thanks, will help a lot!

Very usefull tutorial. Thank you...
Very useful. Thank you.
Aaron: a door should always be vertical
Me thinking depends on the carpenter!
Thanks Aaron...
Ok now I get it: blue things snap to any angle. 😁
thank you very much
