Guys lol the glitch of glitter nails at like 5:14 & 5:18 is not an advertisement! I didn’t try to secretly promote or do a hidden ad or anything like that😂 The picture is actually an old picture from a Nails inc coffee nail polish review that I posted on this channel about a year ago. I edit in iMovie and somehow the picture made an overlay onto my video🤦🏽♀️😭
My problem is 1 letting it dry without smudging 2.making the layers too thick 3.painting with my bad hand 4. And getting good polishes that aren’t all lumpy and have a good brush
I swear to you the more you pain with your bad hand the easier it gets believe me! I couldn't paint my right hand at all but now the more I did it the better I got. I promise you it'll be worth it
I just gave up and painted one hand. But im a dude so... then if anyone bugs me i can show 'em my " straight " non-painted hand and if that doesn't shut 'em up i show 'em painted toes. And while they're getting a load of those i hit em with the dreaded uppercut, indian burn combo attack, no one can defend against these attacks except for the headless horseman and the natives who have a defense against the Indian burn but will never let us know what is . Word up to all Natives and i m not trying to make light out of situation that's is very real and i have always been friends with someone fron the rez or from the city representin. All land in Canada at least is still unceded because king ain't real and if he is then i challemge him to a joust!!!!
I’m a 41 year old man watching this to help my wife. The “do nots” helped a ton! She was standing there literally shaking her hands as you were saying not to😂
Hehehe! You're a good man. My BF is kind of metro, so he ALWAYS gives me input when I do my nails. The color(s), the kind of polish, the various top coats and finishes, etc. He even gets all pissy if I smudge a nail! LMAO! (This is a 52 year old guy, btw! Haha!) Then, when I'm finished, he wants to see how it turned out. He'll always make little suggestions like, "maybe add a little bit of sparkle to your ring finger's nails," or "can you do a French manicure with such and such colors?", etc. It's really endearing and sweet.
I care for a disabled lady and now I'm trying to educate myself because she loves getting her nails done and I'd like to treat her to some spa days. Thank you for the tips!
Using alcohol to dehydrate your nails before your mani makes *SUCH* a big difference! I've been doing it for about 6 months now and my polish stays on much longer than it used to. It's a much-overlooked step that can make all the difference. And for a great cleanup brush - a tiny little concealer brush from E.l.f. makeup brand works awesome. It's only $1 and it's the perfect size to really clean your edges great!
KimShea22 I’ve also used the tiny liner brushes that come with L’Oréal gel liner. I don’t like them for liner, but they’re the perfect size for cleaning up polish.
I do like your idea of the E.l.f. tiny concealer brush, thanks for that tip! Silly question though.... does the brush go hard? Or would it even because of the (I’m not going to say acetone because most people use nail polish remover without acetone which is much better for your nails that’s for sure) nail polish remover.... does that even go hard? I’m kinda answering my own question I think as I type it lol TIA!
I don't get how they get the polish so smooth A year later: Guys I have figured it out I just got a better quality polish😂make sure its liquidy (best way to explain it)
XxQueenxiexX - The polish needs to flow properly in order to get this kind of smooth result. If your polish is even a teeny bit too thick, you need to thin it with pure acetone. My easy way is to first test the polish by shaking it well and then pulling out the brush and seeing its consistency. If too thick, I add a few drops of 100% pure acetone to it. Then I shake it well and try again. To make this easy, I purchased a tall thin 4-6 oz plastic bottle that has a eye dropper in the lid and fill it with the acetone as needed. I have been able to successfully resuscitate polishes that were more than 10 years old. It works on Shellac, Gel, regular polishes, glitter polishes - even the hypo-allergenic polishes.
Another tip: On the table where you are going to do your manicure, put down several layers of paper towels to protect your surface and to also serve to wipe off a brush if need be. I tape them to the table so they lay flat and don't move. I then put a small lid from a water jug or other disposable lid down on the paper towels and put a few drops of acetone in the lid. Then, when I have done my two base coats and apply my first or second coat of color, I check the flow on the nail. If the color coat is too thick or streaking, I dip my polish brush lightly in the acetone and go over the section I don't like. It will immediately smooth the polish and pull off the excess. I then wipe the brush on paper towel and put back in bottle. It works great. Good luck!
This one video gave me the courage to start doing my own nails. At first it was a mess.. But, through my watching this over and over again, I'm getting compliments. I've even, starting to do designs. I've saved enough money, to buy great colors and implements to do a really good job.. I owe it all to you Gabby. Thanks for the tutorials. You're AWESOME!!! Peace
This was helpful for someone like me who is inexperienced/bad at doing my nails. Thank you! Also, I don't know if anyone else mentioned this tip but I read that if you're like me and you get polish on the skin around your nails a lot and you don't want to spend a lot of money on latex nail tape then you can use regular Elmer's white glue instead. Use a very small brush like for eyeliner (ELF makes one for $1) and paint on a thin layer of glue around your fingernails. Let the glue dry, paint your nails and then when your nails are dry you can peel off the glue and the excess nail polish should come off easily.
Great directions!!! My daughter is a nail tech and I’m always looking for new ideas for her. The things are spot on! You gave great advice and didn’t try to keep ‘trade secrets’. Not everyone has the time or money to go to a salon.
honestly i paint my nails rly badly then wait like three-four hours then i take a hot shower and i have an exfoliating hand towel for washing my body, then it easily comes off the skin
As a licensed cosmetologist, I learned that you CAN trim off the cuticle (dead skin) from the nail, but not the eponychium (often confused with the cuticle). Also, one great tip to getting that polish as close as possible to the cuticle area, without flooding or touching it, is to place a small drop of polish and then gently push it with your brush toward the eponychium. Thin coats work best, as they dry more evenly and are not prone to chipping!
Also, when I gentle push my cuticles back once in a while I have excess skin that forms and then I gently use my cuticle cutting tool and clip these little pieces off, easy peasie. But I don't go crazy and only need to do this maybe once a month. If I don't I will be tempted to pick at this excess skin or bite at that skin which is really gross.
@@PaoBersuitera ~ i stopped biting my nails for about half a month, so i was was of course happy too stop , but then out of not really thinking I started biting them again, but im restarting again! Thanks for the vote of confidence!
I wanna thank you for this video. It helped me to be more patient with myself in doing this, especially since painting my nails is one of my top self-care things right now and I'm working with a tremor. And hey, my nails turned out better this time than last! So yeah, A+ advice and I appreciate you sharing it.

As a licensed nail technician, some of these tips are true and some of them are not necessary. As for the cuticles, you can cut your cuticles as long as you actually know the difference between your cuticle and your eponychium. For filing, yes you never want to “saw” your nail, but you want to try to only file from the back towards the tip. As for the alcohol, this step is not 100% necessary as long as you know how to properly apply your polish, the only times you need to dry out your nail plate is for acrylics and gels.
i'm licensed in nails as well as skin and hair and I was taught to file always towards the center of the nail. So to clarify, from each outer edge towards the center always. Is that what you were taught as well? Sawing back and forth is grinding them "against the grain", if you will. Yes?
Peggy Potts yes, filing towards the center of the tip is what I was getting at. At that moment I couldn’t remember how to describe the motion. And I absolutely tell all my friends and clients, never file in a sawing motion because you will damage the nail plate and cause your free edge to weaken.
Every. Single. Time I let a nail tech trim the cuticle, it causes my finger SKIN to peel in ribbons after a few days. Painful! Gross! I don't know what causes that but I've tried keeping moisturized, protected, etc and it never fails. Takes weeks to heal! So as much as I love the clean look, experience tells me to only push back never cut cuticle skin:(
AzerathMetrionZintos Sounds like they’re cutting the eponychium not the cuticle, what she has in the video is her eponychium not her cuticle, cuticles are dead skin on the nail plate.
I only cap with a clear top coat. I do NOT cap with the polish. And I still find my mani's to last 2 at least a perfect 7 days and an "Okay-Ish" 14 days
I know I've heard it said many times: don't shake your nail polish = air bubbles, blah blah blah BUT I've got to be honest I shake the crap outta my polish and I have never once had a problem. And I have a fairly large collection of many brands. Also I was wondering why you said not to ever cut your cuticles? I see all these Russian nail techs do it and was considering trying it but now I'm not so sure. Do you use gel at all Gabby? I'd love to see a video like this on gel polish. There's something about it that I'm just not getting. Thanks.
I have 1000+ nail polishes. They are sitting inside a drawer. If I roll them gently on my hands they will never mix. I'm with you on this one. I shake my polishes reaaaaaally well right before applying them and my mani is always flawless, no air bubbles whatsoever. About cutting the cuticles... well, I'm not in favor of that. I have done it properly in the past and nowadays I don't. The difference I see in my cuticles and in my nails in general is huge. They grow a lot faster now that that I don't cut them, they bend and don't break, they are more even without as many bumps as before. I believe so many nail techs around the world cut their clients cuticles because it's just faster. They go to the salon with their nails in the worst state and want to leave with pretty nails, so there's no cuticle oil that'll save those if you know what I mean...
Beth Magalski the main reason not to cut your cuticles is because it serves as a protective barrier for your nails, along with that cutting them just results in them growing back uneven and rugged which I have personally experienced😭 it’s also one of those things where you if you start to do it regularly you don’t stop I rarely ever use gel so I would be the best to ask about that because I’m definitely a beginner! I would watch nail career education here on RUclips because she is a licensed nail tech 💕
@Floriduh GirlWell, if you like having more space to play with, then cut them. If you're not cutting to the point they bleed and if you're not feeling any pain, just do it. Whatever makes you happy. My long term experience cutting my cuticles was what I mentioned before. And yes, I was doing them properly. Back then I also took a cuticle course (idk how it's called in the USA, I live in Brazil. Here it's called curso de cutilagem). So I was doing it the "proper way". The final results, as I mentioned earlier, were weaker nails, bumps on the nail plate, etc. All that long term. So I stopped. I save time time while doing my own nails, no risks of infection getting inside my body through my cuticles, longer, stronger and more flexible nails.
@Floriduh Girl I use cuticle remover to remove the dead skin. Mainly I use BlueCross and BeNatural. I just apply some, let it sit for 45 secs and use a wood stick to remove the dead skin that builds on the surface of the nail. Then I wash my hands and I'm good to go. Cuticles don't need to be cut because they are that dead transparent skin sitting on top of our nails that we just see when we push them back.
@Floriduh Girl woah! It's okay. I'm not offended. ;-) Yes, it's super confusing. That's why I replied to the girl (Beth), because when we see everybody doing something and someone else comes to us saying that's not the right way to do it, we get confused. I believe that as long as you don't hurt yourself while doing it, if you like the results, if you are really not harming yourself, then just cut that skin. But it's important to keep in mind it's not actually healthy. Cutting live skin is never healthy, but then again.. people have plastic surgeries... If that makes them feel good, they should do it.
Whenever I do more than 2 costs my nails start having indentations on them like when I wake up in the morning there will be random marks on it. How do I avoid this?
Why I’m horrible at painting my nails: 1. I don’t have nails 2. I smudge it everywhere 3. I get so bored waiting an eventually I move and ruin it 4. I cant paint very well with my left hand
One tip: if you're left handed, start with it. So you won't struggle at the end because when you try to apply a nail polish at the right hand using your left, you are gonna struggle at the end, but it still depends on you.
I never realized how much craftsmanship and work goes into these nails, wow! Kinda makes me want to try it. As a dude - any first time recommendations?
This is the very first video I've ever watched on the subject, and I will use what I learned to apply my very first coat in 27 years. I am levitating with excitement.
You have the most beautiful nails Gabby, I have tried to apply polish and it never works for me I don't know how you get it absolutely flawless, I seen how you did it but I can't duplicate it!
Hi Gabby! Could you do a complete video, painting with your non- dominant hand? I have seen some in you-tube, but I really like the way you explain things. Thank you for sharing your secrets with us!
Really, the only way to get better at painting your nails with your bad hand is LOTS OF PRACTICE. The more you do it, the more your muscles will remember, and the less problems you'll have over time. Its definitely not an overnight thing, but the more you practice the easier it will be. Hoped this helped!
move your hand backwards instead of trying to paint with the non dominant hand, its kinda easy. also, i use a small paintbrush instead of the nail polish brush, it actually helps so much with precision lmao
this is absolutely the MOST ACCURATE video of do's and dont's for nails i have seen. EVERYTHING YOU WENT THROUGH I LEARNED IN COSMETOLOGY a lot of ppl either file their nails on both sides, or they use lotion and dont clean their hands before nail polish which prevents it from drying... like EVER. And a lot of ppl shake the bootle which does cause air bubbles we learned to roll the bottle inside of our palms to prevent this from happening. ANOTHER TIP always clean the mouth of the bottle from the nail polish because it gets sticky, tacky and gunky and it is 1- a lot harder to close and 2- it also damages the nail polish and the brush. So what youll do is take a cotton pad or ball and get some acetone and CAREFULLY clean around it so that it doesnt damage the nail polish.
I have FINALLY found a nail tutorial channel that gives clear, concise, easy to follow instructions! Basically, this is how I have been doing my nails for a long time, but there were a couple of little things that were very helpful (and I will adjust in my nail painting routine.) I have used nail drying spray on and off, with mixed results. What are your thoughts on this particular product Gabby? Should I not be using it? Or perhaps I wasn't using it correctly. If you do recommend using it, what is the best way to do so? Anyway, this video was excellent and I will watch your other tutorials. (I just stumbled across your channel! 💜 IT!!!) Thank you so much Gabby, you certainly know what you are doing and are an excellent teacher!! 💅🙂
Maria when I do my nails it literally takes me the whole dam day cause this is what I do, I paint my nails, I realise it’s too thick, I take it off then I reapply nail polish, I touch it too early then reapply, I do a thin coat next, everything ok right now, do the second coat, it becomes too thick and air bubbles appear. Then I cry
I WAIT FUCKING 60 MINUTES HONESTLY AND IT IS STILL WET. i have even tried 30€ nail polishes its the same. i literally put on a timer for 60 min per THIN coat. I can't do it. So i always get mine done lol
Even though I do & play with my nails a lot, almost constantly, I feel like a professional but I still learn new things from other ppl, I shake my bottles, so thank u for setting me straight.
Thank you for doing this video!!! I noticed I have been doing many things wrong, thanks to you I won’t make the same mistakes again!! Love your videos!
Seems like everyone who makes these has "naturally wide nail beds"🙎. 😑 i'm waiting for someone who has hands like mine: nail beds the size of a 10 year-old, and the dexterity to polish *the Non-dominant HAND* to match! 😂😂😂✌💗
darling give me a month or so so my nails grown a bit longer i have been having this problem forever like my 6year old cousin has a bigger pinky than me
@@tamarakolar1051 i remember asking an older coworker why she wore glitter polish. She said: "Because it's easy, dries fast, looks ok, & is goof-proof." i have every shade of glitter under the sun, lol.😂 It's true. i do my toenails in solid colors: *LA COLORS* is the best. It doesn't streak, has the thinnest brush, doesn't clump or chip, & comes off well. Everything else needs 2 coats & nuclear blast😋, (or pure* acetone) to remove. 😉 ("Pure Ice" also has a thin brush.) 💅💗

I have no problem growing my nails out but then they become dirt magnets . There is literally always a thin dark line in my nails and they are sooo hard to clean. does anybody have tips on keeping your nails clean?
@@neha_h When you're growing out your nails for a long time, the skin underneath also grows to support it so dirt also would not be able to get underneath because of the skin growth.
@@neha_h My dad likes to do little projects at home that make his nails dirty. His nails are cut and uses a nail brush. I have long nails that I keep clean by scratching my palm when I wash my hands. It gets the soap under them a little better.
Neha Hemadri same I’m putting tea tree oil under my small nails to try get that dirty line to grow up.. it’s a waiting game .. try sally Hansen maximum growth .. it’s working for me
My mistakes: 1 I do cut my cuticles 2 I do file in both directions 3 I use a cotton ball to remove old polish 4 I don’t use a base coat 5 I do paint the little tip of the nail thing 6 I just do one layer 7 I don’t use a top coat 8 I do shake my nails 9 before I paint my nails I always shake the bottle -so that means that I should just stop doing every single thing I do.
I have done my own nails since I could get my hands on nail polish. This was in the 70's. I learned it all myself and figured out all of this myself. No videos back then. To this day everyone thinks I had them done in a salon and think they are fake because they can get kind of long. Never had to drop a cent in a nail salon.
I’m always polishing my nails. So today when I was going to start I came across this video! I followed your tips and it made such a difference! I need to go get the make up sponges though. Thank you so much!!!!! 💜
I enjoy cutting my cuticles. I use extremely sharp cuticle scissors instead of nippers. I'm very careful when I do this, but I have to say, using cuticle remover is easier, a lot faster, and safer! I keep thinking of buying more remover and I always forget.
You're not cutting your cuticle youre cutting your eponychium which keeps you from getting infections. Cuticle is literally just dead skin on your nail plate.
@@genesisbenitez607 Thanks for mentioning that - I'd heard that word a few weeks ago and wanted to look it up, but couldn't remember what it was. I've just looked it up now - some sources said it's the same as the cuticle, but nail specialists agree with you that the eponychium and cuticle are different. If the link will post, I found this one had a very good explanation: www.myblisskiss.com/blog/cuticle/
1. Cuticle oil and orange stick 2. file in one direction 3. Makeup sponge and wipe 4. Apply base coat 5. Apply thin coat 6. Stay away from cuticle line so it doesn’t flood 7. Don’t shake top coat
Gabby thanks for the technique. I'm a guy who does feet but doesn't paint nails. Since I've learned some tips from you, I can try to practice and get my nail game right to get prospective clients and change careers.
My Wonderful Mother taught me to soak my nails after polish in cold water (preferably ice water) in the sink. This dries you nails quicker. Also after painting your nails typing is a good way to let your nails dry as well as driving, both let your nails dry without the miss up on trying to touch things. My nails are like Gabby's and I'm 58 - practice makes perfect!
What I like to do when I want my nails to dry faster is put them in cold water, or ice water. I use a fast dry top coat and then the water, they come out awesome every time.
How do u get ur nails so pretty?! My nails for some reason have thin layers “peeling” on the edges (I don’t pick them) do u have any tips on getting healthier nails? Thx!
KittyClawz_Meow you can buff the parts of your nails that are peeling. To get healthier nails you have to apply cuticle oil or any moisturising oil regularly to your nails. Make sure to put base coat on your nails even when you aren’t painting them, to prevent them from breaking or peeling.
Great tutorial, useful, needed, helpful and has the info most of our mothers never taught us. Many mom’s didn’t use goves to wash dishes or do chores because they just didn’t do their nails. That’s fine if you don’t do your nailsbut don’t be haters of the women who do.NEVER use your nails as tools. Never file your nails into points to make them seem longer or to fix a lopsided broken nail. If you don’t file your nails into the “squareish blocks” you just saw this woman do your nails will not have the stability to grow longer without breaking the next time you sneeze. It’s more than a fashion choice. It’s to create the stability needed to have 10 nails the same length. If I do happen to break a nail I avoid dialing 911 by keeping a box of good faux nails to glue one on to even them up unil the broken nail grows out. Other than that I won’t use faux nails as I will run into a fungus issue or the glue gives out and off they fly into your pasta & it’s like being exposed for wearing dentures. Keep your nails polished at all times and they will grow, most likely, into the beautiful nails on the host of this video. One last tip - never buy nail color because it looks pretty in the bottle. Only buy color that complements your skin tone. And personally, glitter nail polishes are for 4 yr olds, not adults. I would shoot myself in the foot before I put glitter nail polish on my nails, or perhaps if I were going trick or treating..the trend of painting each nail a different color, or painting just one a different color is not attractive, looks ghetto and demonstrates zero sophistication. Same with decals. Don’t do this to yourself. You can give it a go but it will have the same effect as covering your face in tattoos.would you go into a job interview with your nails like this? Why not? Because it looks cheap, unprofessional and psychotic, in my opinion. Would nails like this be the choice of high end diamond or watch sellers? Why not? Don’t appear in public with your polish half worn off. Ever. Do a quick but thorough touch up or get out the acetone & remove every bit of it.this is a dead give-a.way as to your grooming habits - ALL of them. If you can not or will not commit to the work that’s required to keep your nails looking done it’s far better to skip this chore altogether and go with a clean, polish free look. You can pay pros to do this for you but the cost will quickly become incomprehensible.
Excellent Gabby...I learned a lot, this was actually one of the BEST videos created on this subject that I've ever seen (watched alot!!!!!) thank you so much! Will be looking forward to others by y.o.u. ♡ 🤩
You left a black speck of something on the 1st nail you painted with clear polish... But I guess it doesn't matter bc color polish is going over it!!!! Great tips...tyfs! I am horrible at painting my nails.....
Omgosh everything you’ve said not to do, I do. 😭 I’m sitting here with janky painted toe nails. LOL I’ll try your method after this paint chips. You made it looks SO freaking EASY!
I wipe my nails with an alcohol prep pad before painting them, to remove the oils. Instead of throwing it away right after, I save it to use at the end of my paint job. By that point, it's just about dry, and I wipe my brush for my top coat on it before I put it back in the bottle, to prevent my top coat from becoming murky. I've flooded my cuticles so many times, but I clean around each nail after each coat with a tiny brush and some professional strength nail polish remover. It may take longer than doing the cleanup at the end, but I find that it gives a better result.
Whenever I apply a base coat before applying any nail polish color of my choice my nails never seem to dry they stay tacky even if I put on a top coat to seal the nail polish can someone tell me what I am doing wrong to get my nails to not fully dry? When I apply no base coat my nail polish dries 100% like it should
The base coat should be really thin and you should wait until it completely dries before applying your nail polish (a first thin layer) , make sure you paint it quickly and don't go over the same area twice.. Once it dries out you should be able tu put a second layer of your nail polish. It takes time but it works at least for me.
hi! so i know this is a really late response but usually base coats are meant to be a little tacky even tho they dried so that the nail polish sticks to it more!
Hi! I'm not sure what base coat you're using but the CNC base coat that I use on clients fully dries by the time I'm done applying it to all 10 nails. So maybe wait longer for it to dry or try out a new base coat! Don't worry base coat isn't mandatory it just prevents staining on the nails!! Hope that helps :)
Groovy. I usually just throw a layer of paint on my nails, but you are really doing this like a professional. Maybe I will begin to paint my nails again. 💕
Beyonce Knowles ok. Well I use a taco (top coat) I that dries in 30 seconds, but when I didn’t have that top coat, I would wait 5 minutes after applying and layer and then soak my hand in cold water every 2 minutes for 20 seconds. Your layer should be dry enough to apply a new one after 6-7 minutes or a bit more. Then after I applied my final coat, I would wait 5 minutes again, and then soak my hand in water for 5 minutes every 8-10 minutes until I’ve done for 2-25 minutes. After all that, it should be dry but still be careful, it can still smudge
first I gently touch it to see if it leaves any fingerprints, and if it doesn’t then I rub the entire surface with light pressure to ensure the entire area is dry.
No matter how I try, my polish is always streaky. I use 2 coats and you can still see my nails. I've used lots of different brands and it's always streaky.
Any tips on wrapping the nail when your nails are stubs? I’ve tried to put stickers under the nail tip. Maybe I’ll experiment with that more. Any suggestions appreciated!
Needed this. Been going weekly but chips a few days later so I rather do it myself, just get mani/pedi when needed. However I can't polish to save my life and hoping to learn how its done properly and not caked on like I'm known to do.
Hey there! Re: cuticle cutters. I know you mentioned don't cut cuticles, but I have crazy awful cuticles! Long, uneven, multiple layers, and when I push them back there is a long cuticle that sticks up. Plus there are usually multiple little cuticle fly always around the nails that if I dont cut, they pull and bleed. Suggestions???
All of these tips are gold!! I've never been happy with my own work but wow! What a difference some of these tips have made...even waiting for each layer to completely dry made a huge difference in how long my polish lasted. I had one chip in a week and i didn't even use a base or top coat. I bought some this weekend to help with the longevity but, dang I can't believe how simple yet helpful these tips are. Highly recommend doing as she says, thank you so much for this video!!!
I wonder why nail polish begin to chip 2 or 3 days after I applied it? I rub my nails with alcohol before, I put a good base and a good top coat, but my polish never last for more than 3 days😣 Even with expensive polish!!
Don't dehydrate your nails too much, apply base coat and cap the tip with it, cap the tip with only your first coat of color and your top coat (when you cap it you want there to be barely any polish on the brush) make sure your nails dry fully then be careful with your nails! Wash dishes with gloves, don't be too rough with your hands. Maybe if polish isn't your best friend, you could try gel polish! It lasts longer and is harder to chip! Honestly my favourite. If you want tips on gel polish application just reply and I'll give you tips I use when working on clients :) hope that helps
Well I don’t feel like I need to search any other how to videos , although I possibly will, because yours seemed to cover everything and made so much sense. Thank you. Also, short, sweet and to the point. Excellent.
I do this with the colored layer and when I use a top coat I place it closer to the cuticles. This seals in the nail polish and stops it from lifting and getting snagged on things as the nail grows out
Sorry if someone already said this but wanted to drop this as a fun fact; 'high grit' actually means it's less rough, since 'grit' is a rough count of # of stones per area! So a lower grit means fewer, rougher stones on the paper and higher grits mean more stones which gives the appearance of a flatter surface and therefore is less rough
I also suggest buying a “mistake marker” I like to call it. It basically has nail polish remover in it so if u get a bit on ur finger u can rub it on the area and it’ll come off :)
Glad to see this video! Hi from 2022 😂😂 this is going to help me help all of my friends, because everyone of every gender in my groups are starting to paint their nails and well, I used to do it myself or get them done. NOW I can practice a simple and easy method at home and do it with friends. Thank you so much!!
Hi do you have tips for me pls, I consider trying out nail polish for a first time but I had no clue you even needed a base coat on the nails 💀 do the base coat and top coat are the same product or not? I struggle watching ppl getting their cuticula removed or pushed and if I could avoid this step with mines I'd rather be aware ab it 🥲 I don't have any material as a guy and my mom doesn't really use makeup like artists or most young ppl would do, implying there is no tools like sponges or thin brushes to help with removing efficiently alcohol or nail polish, I can just think of paper towel or cotton bud 😕 anyway rn what I think I need is nail polish and these coats (which I assume is 1 product for both steps) I have alcohol at home and I don't feel like it's necessary to touch cuticulas, if you can answer some of my questions I'd be highly delighted 🙇♂️
Um, I saw some glitter nails flashing in this video, did I? Lol I just love your nails OmG. You said they are just hard and I'm over here peeling my splitting nails every hour 🤦🏽♀️ oh how I wish I had long strong nails. Like always, thanks for the nail therapy and knowledge 😊😉
There are a lot of really good nail strengtheners on the market. If you have Sally Beauty close by, they have several good things not expensive. Also, Ulta has good products, and not all of them are going to break the bank.
Hi! I take Biotin and after about a week, I noticed my nails to be stronger (more flexible) and grow faster, and it did the same for my hair. I have very few split ends, months later 😊
There is a product called Nailtiques it comes in different formulas. I have great nails. I use Nailtiques formula 2. I use it as a base coat, use the color polish and then use it as a top coat. My mani last from 10.-14 days. I Do not wear gloves when I clean.
Luv u and this channel 😍 Question thought... U gave a lot of do's and dont's in this video. I thought it was just going to be on painting the nail. U gave a bunch of them. Are u worried about running out of tips so fast for us? Either way i live for this channel 😍 Keep doing u boo🤗
tl;dr- use Hoofer's Choice nail and cuticle cream. a lot of people are complaining about not having a good base to work off of, unhealthy nails that beg to be bitten or picked at. also get TOE NAIL CLIPPERS that are nice and sharp and trim them short until you can train yourself to stop gnawing / until the nail cream helps them grow back in. trim them off straight across. do not file at all and do not buff. you also should try taking vitamin e supplements or a good multivitamin, even if you're getting all your fruits and vegetables. and maybe try switching to a gentler hand soap for every day use, in case your soap is drying your skin. I learned all this as a kid with chronic nail biting problems. i tried giving myself daily mani/pedis to break the habit but it's not a 'habit' it's a compulsion. you want to bite your nails because they feel uncomfortable. that's it. so you have to help them grow in so they won't 'hurt' or bother you all the time anymore. Hoofer's Choice has herbal oils with proven antibiotic properties as well, so when you have some inflammation on your fingers, it clears it up. works on chaffing and paper cuts on other parts of the body, as well.

I like how you use nail file. 😍
My problem is
1 letting it dry without smudging
2.making the layers too thick
3.painting with my bad hand
4. And getting good polishes that aren’t all lumpy and have a good brush
For lumpy polishes you can buy a nail polish thinner to thin the polish, the other problems are fixed with just practice and patience
I love Orly Color Blast. It has an AMAZING brush and dries really fast. Also not too expensive.
I swear to you the more you pain with your bad hand the easier it gets believe me! I couldn't paint my right hand at all but now the more I did it the better I got. I promise you it'll be worth it

That's the same brush I use! I should probably replace mine since it's becoming a little frayed, but I could easily spend another dollar.
It’s not dehydrating your nails. It removes the oils on your nails
KimShea22 I do the same process, and the polish does stay on longer.
I don't get how they get the polish so smooth
A year later: Guys I have figured it out I just got a better quality polish😂make sure its liquidy (best way to explain it)
You do a first layer don’t make it thick let it dry then 2nd coat thin
Good luck!
Thank you everyone 😊
@Speak the Truth - none of my hundreds of polishes that I used it with were destroyed. The were brought back to life and performed perfectly.
I’m a perfectionist so it literally has to be perfect or I just take the polish off my nails and give up

Thanks!

So as much as I love the clean look, experience tells me to only push back never cut cuticle skin:(
I was also taught that you should only really use high grit files on toes, as finger nails are softer and more likely to split. Can anyone confirm?
AzerathMetrionZintos Sounds like they’re cutting the eponychium not the cuticle, what she has in the video is her eponychium not her cuticle, cuticles are dead skin on the nail plate.

Beth Magalski the main reason not to cut your cuticles is because it serves as a protective barrier for your nails, along with that cutting them just results in them growing back uneven and rugged which I have personally experienced😭 it’s also one of those things where you if you start to do it regularly you don’t stop
I rarely ever use gel so I would be the best to ask about that because I’m definitely a beginner!
How do I avoid this?
i've bought ESSI Quick-E finisher and you just put a drop or two on each nail and it wont smudge. Let it dry tho for maybe an hour.
It has a dropper instead of a brush in the bottle.

There are no trade secrets or methods to this. Only practice.
this is absolutely the MOST ACCURATE video of do's and dont's for nails i have seen.
💜 IT!!!) You're not cutting your cuticle youre cutting your eponychium which keeps you from getting infections. Cuticle is literally just dead skin on your nail plate.

Essie Good to Go is also really nice. Dries very fast.
Not just applying a base coat to help with the staining. But you can also paint a white nail polish to make the color pop more vividly.
Oh my gosh, you called it an orange stick!
I hear all-too-often people calling it a "cuticle pusher".
Yes, queen!

Thank you. I always got air bubbles on my nailpolish and i didnt know why. Thank you😄
Omgosh everything you’ve said not to do, I do. 😭 I’m sitting here with janky painted toe nails. LOL
I’ll try your method after this paint chips.
You made it looks SO freaking EASY!
DO: cap the base coat!!!! This makes it last so much longer!!!!!!
I let my nails grow for 3 months and i BROKE ONE OF THEM.
Im crying 😭
😭😭😭
Me too
buy super glue, there’s a gorilla glue that comes with a brush. every time my nail brakes i just superglue it before it falls off and file it : )
@@dianacarmona3040 What 😀
no please don’t use gorilla glue-
How long should it take each layer to dry typically? And when finished, how long till you can use your hands without fear of smudging?
But how much time do you wait between layers? How do you know this is completely dry?
Beyonce Knowles gently touch it..
@@somegirlfromthetrash9673 even if I touch it might feel dry with fingers but beneath the layer it is not completely dry

I can't believe those are your real nails! They're perfect 😍😍
No matter how I try, my polish is always streaky. I use 2 coats and you can still see my nails. I've used lots of different brands and it's always streaky.
M KC I think you're making your coats too thin! Try having more polish on the brush to make the coat a little bit thicker. Hope that helps!
Holy shit that was the most perfect thing I've ever seen. Your finished product is like, beyond flawless. So jealous
Great video. I envy your nail beds so much! 😭
Any tips on wrapping the nail when your nails are stubs? I’ve tried to put stickers under the nail tip. Maybe I’ll experiment with that more. Any suggestions appreciated!
Please tell me which nail polish did you use?? It's a beautiful colour
Naiisinc London "Anti Social Climber". she shoes it before applying it.
@@TheStudnut thanks
Needed this. Been going weekly but chips a few days later so I rather do it myself, just get mani/pedi when needed. However I can't polish to save my life and hoping to learn how its done properly and not caked on like I'm known to do.
I'm obsessed now! I love that you don't cut off the cuticle's.
Tips on how to dry the nails well? How long to do it/how to know they're really dry enough
How long does it take for nail polish to dry so it doesn’t smudge?
Mine takes about an hour 😩
Dip your nails in cold water for about 30-40 seconds..it will be ready....try this great hack!!!
Nice tip about the make up sponge. I always get cottonball pieces.....thank you!
when you’re a violinist and you would die with painted and long nails -
when you're a guitarist and you can only have one hand long and the other hand short so you just leave both of them short and never have nice nails
when u don’t play an instrument
@emilia sato I’m a violinists but I can still paint my nails. It’s impossible to have long nails though.
@@claracole5787 how do you even have on hand long for me my thumbs are the only ones that can keep on, which hand is long right or left?
This was an awesome tutorial. I’m going to follow this! I hope they turn out well!
Excellent.
they look nice but why are you painting like 50 meters away from the cuticle? they look like they were done over a week ago
Lomi Heart makes the nail polish last longer
bc it simply looks neater
To each their own appearently, I’ve seen ppl paint/attach fake nails like that. But I don’t personally like it either, prefer a full nail.
Lomi Heart it gives space for your cuticles to grow which helps your manicure last longer
How do you keep your nails from breaking?
I also suggest buying a “mistake marker” I like to call it. It basically has nail polish remover in it so if u get a bit on ur finger u can rub it on the area and it’ll come off :)
That is basically an all-in-one alternative to the acetone and angled brush that she mentioned.
I'm a guy trying to figure out how to paint my nails they look so raspy
I saw those flashing glitter nails too!!!
There are a lot of really good nail strengtheners on the market. If you have Sally Beauty close by, they have several good things not expensive. Also, Ulta has good products, and not all of them are going to break the bank.
@@susandeason1356 Ok! I see them often but didn't think they worked. I'll have to try one. Any you recommend?
I am a married guy and paint my nails, thanks for the video. I think all guys should paint their nails
