I've never been a big fan of convertibles, yet if I had the bucks, I would go with the 12C spider in a heartbeat!
The McLaren MP4-12C has definitely grown on me. Did not like it so much when it was released. Thought it had no "super car flare", but now I can see it's a more conservative super car that is meant for all uses.
Car reviewers keep saying it has no passion to it, that the MP4-12C/Spyder has no flare. This is nonsense. It's flare is that it is apologetically brilliant. It's unbelievably fast and reliable. And absolutely gorgeous. I'd say it's miles ahead of the competition.

It may not beat the aventador in comes of speed, but THIS is car is the future of supercars.
And the Mazda Miata. I was referring to the GT2 RS when I was talking about a car that has a super high limit that most drivers cannot reach.
Have a friend who has this car, you feel like a bad ass just sitting in it while the car is still in the garage

Top Gear (UK) may be an entertaining car show, but it's also very well-written and very informative. I usually avoid car reviews by American magazines/shows as they aren't nearly as informative or thorough. But this review is an exception in that it offers everything I wanted from a car review.

I have to agree, some reviews in the US are a bit uninformative, but this one is great. I have to say I love the look of the new 12C Spider as it just seems right. Top Gear's become more of an entertainment programme recently than an educational one, but that's how they get viewers. I do hope they do have at least one petrolhead episode next series.

I agree, and I would want one because its a smaller company, and I assume the MP4-12C is more exclusive
yes it is a french word, and i am not denying that technically the correct way to say it is 'koo-pay', but the matter of the fact is that since it has been adopted into the american english language it has changed.
Don't worry :) I used to like 458 more b/c MP4 traction control just doesnt make the car alive. But now it seems like you can turn the traction control off and have fun with it. Just maybe. If I can slide in an MP4, I think it's a better "driver's car" than 458. Usually I will go for Lambo, Porsche, and Bimmer for the fun factor. Just my opinion. Don't yell at me!

The only way to describe this car when driving it is that it's simply brutal. The ride is stiff and the acceleration pins you to the seat and don't even bother with the radio... The engine noise drowns it out completely unless you are blasting it.
I like this host. He is informative and entertaining.
Coming from a person that doesn't like convertible cars, I would probably choose the spider. Not like I have the opportunity to...
The 4.5 V8 had the sound, the 3.8 TT V8 has the power, torque and efficiency when you compare both. And it's not too bad of a sound for a turbocharged production car. Could be a lot worse.
A driver's car is per definition a car that does what the driver wants, in other words a car that is controlled by the driver. You seem to think that when the opposite applies, as in when a car controls the driver and the driver needs to adapt to all its flaws and bad handling makes a "driver's car".
Seems to you don't really understand it.
Ayrton Senna was arguably the greatest driver ever and he developed the Honda NSX, the first truly usable supercar. He loved it himself.

Another examples can be given as the GT2 RS,GT3 RS,Noble M600,any Zonda,or in any case someone finds those atmospheric prices unnecessary,one can even consider a Lotus Elise,Exige or Evora.
Well this review definitely convinced me to be a MP4 Spyder owner over the competition. Now I just have to win the lottery.

yep, I too prefer the MP4 design over the 458.
If you must have a McLaren MP4, buy this spider and seriously drive it EVERY DAY, because that's what it's best at.
Bang for your buck global competition. Since there are more and more track capable out of box cars being produced, they're getting track equipment as well. Unless you're and uber pro, a paddle will always shift quicker (and more accurate) than a handle, and a driver with both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road will always do better than a driver with one.

What century do you live in? Also I don't know if you're realized this or not but most people aren't Formula 1 drivers and don't want cars that are unpredictable and lethal.
A Mig21 is a "pilot's plane". No fancy technological gadgets just a seriously powerful jet engine, high speed and a powerful gun. A F22 has computers which assists the pilot, in fact makes the plane flyable at all. I know which plane most pilots would rather be in.

As good as a 458? Not bad for a small car company's first attempt at a production sports car (you cannot count the F1 as that was just a hyper exotic built in tiny numbers).
It does make you wonder what their next couple of cars will be like.
i called 4 insurance companies for a quote on car insurance for this car and all 4 companies declined. Bright news, I did get 2 personal phone numbers from female reps.
Good ..so it was worth the inquire..The coverage is the first thing to check..Allstate covered my first ferrari

I love the McLaren but being fast doesn't make it a good car. If it drives itself then the car is terrible. The GT-R produces good numbers but it is boring since it drives itself. A car needs oversteer and understeer to be a driver's car. It keeps the driver busy. The limit should be hard to reach so it is more rewarding to reach this limit.
A driver would get bored driving a car that has no flaws. It is far more rewarding to take a car that is a handful to the limit than it is taking a GT-R to the limit. I'm not saying terrible handling. I'm saying that its computers don't step in every second to limit your fun. You sent me 3 comments saying pretty much the same thing. A car that wants to kill you is a fun car. No, I'm not a pro, but I don't want to be my car's bitch and make it limit how much wheel spin there is.
Some people like the 458 Italia but I prefer the McLaren

in all the technological ways yes, but you have to admit it doesn't have the soul and passion of a ferrari.
It really bugs me how americans say "coop" instead of "coupé" jees it's like saying "caff" instead of "café" it's a French word so say it right, you would'nt like a 'foreigner' pronouncing English words incorrectly.
It really bothers me how people come on youtube, an American website, and tell us how to pronounce things. You wouldn't want us coming on your websites and bitching to you.

I am an American I have pronounced it correctly since I learned of the word. It just doesn't sound right the way every other American says it. When I correct other I get shit for it.

Top Gear UK is more than 80% entertaining, is very well written for its purpose, but is is not THAT very informative. All petrolheads know that if we want to really be informed about a car manufacturer and a model, Top Gear is not the best choose. Apart from C&D, Motortrend and Drive, there are some other reviewers...

Try the Ruf CTR "Yellowbird" from 1987. A challenge to drive if there ever was one. Also, a death trap to anybody that isn't a professional.
Are you a professional? I very much doubt it. So go and take you highly subjective opinion somewhere. The only challenging cars you ever drove were in your games.
And if you think bad handling and lousy balance equals a "driver's car" then you're insane. It's all about communication, and if a car enhances the driver's input...
