The CL65 AMG brings back so many memories. I remember foolishly trying to convince my parents to buy one in 2015-2016 when you could find early 08-09 cars for $40k. I thought it would be so cool to have a V-12 car in the house. I imagine they are thankful they didn't listen to me :)
Hoovie, I saw “9500Ci” on the cluster when it started. Someone installed an Escort 9500Ci integrated radar detector and used an aftermarket module to integrate it with the factory screen and steering wheel controls. It looks like a CLEAN install!
@@sesto194, I'll fill you in on a little bit. Mercedes had 2, 6 cylinder banks. Each bank had all 6 coils as a single unit. When 1 coil went bad, you had to replace 6 since they came as 1 piece. You don't wanna know what that 6pc cost 😂😂😂
Your channel has taught me one thing above all. I couldnt afford a spark plug for any car you own. That's okay I'm glad to have learned so much about super cars and the European imports. My favorite of your fleet is the Maybach. Exquisite beauty!
I love the CL65, would definitely keep it over the Bentley. As another owner of a 90% depreciated aughts Mercedes, I'm not terribly objective though haha. You are right about them being on the cutting edge. My '06 W211 doesn't have quite as many features as the CL, but it sure has quite a bit for an '06. Things I wouldn't have dreamed of having in my car around the time it was new!
Tyler…I’ve dipped my toe into your world. I purchased a 2007 S65 (the sedan version of the CL65) with 50k miles, a 1995 Jag XJS 4.0 L (as a Jag expert told me, half the cylinders of the V12…half the issues) with 30k miles and a 2000 456M. Tried to buy a 2006 Maybach from MB of Plano (a HUGE dealer North of Dallas), but they would not sell it to me as it had strut issues ($10k each from MB) and would not pass state inspection without replacement. I assured them I was taking the car to California and knew I could buy rebuilt struts for $2,500. Unfortunately, their GM would not accept the “liability” and insisted on sending it to auction. Back to the S65. Mine was delivered to a Latvian diplomat and sent over to the US, as he was the consulate general at the Latvian consulate in Cincinnati. Who knew there were so many Latvians in Cincinnati? The federalization cost alone was $45,000…I know, I have the invoice from the shop in Baltimore. This was done shortly after delivery of the car, under international diplomatic law. Legal loophole. It has every option (four pages) available…even some unavailable in North America…except the heated steering wheel. And…the European tune with increased speed limiter (like 175 mph)…putting the rwhp at 675+, the 19 inch 2 piece AMG/Cromodora forged wheels, rear video DVD/TV screens and the little refrigerator between the rear, fully reclining, heated, cooled massaging bucket seats. Some stuff you could only get on the Maybach in the USA. MSRP was over $240,000. I will give you some advice. The heater issue could be the valve up by the firewall. Ask Tavarish about this…he did a video on replacing the one in the S600 up in New Jersey in the middle of winter. The other issue on these 63s and 65s is the ABC hydraulic suspension systems. The high pressure pumps are $$$. Ask me how I know. And Wizard will kill you if you bring it to him…take it to the Ninja. There’s a place in Germany that rebuilds the components FOR Mercedes-Benz at a fraction of the price: abcteile24.de/en/produkt-kategorie/abc-system/ Oh…and the brake rotors. Wait until you get the price on those. And they can’t be turned. Keep fresh pads on there; they’re cheap by comparison!
I am considering a low mileage 08 S65 (25k miles) and a low miles 08 s63 (50k miles). Any thought on the recurring maintenance costs and things to look out for?
Depends on the price. I would expect the S65 to be considerably more money than the S63. If I was making the decision, I'd go for the S65. The 6.2 engine had head bolt/gasket issues. The only thing I know of with the M275 V12 was the coil packs. There's an ex-Silicon Valley engineer up in Jamestown, CA that rebuilds these for a lot less than new; last time I checked the dealer wanted about $12k for new coil packs and spark plugs...there's 24 on a S65. But given the only V12 Mercedes still makes is the S680 Mercedes-Maybach at $400+k, you do the math on what's the more exclusive automobile...
My favourite car, the CL65! I’m lucky to get to daily drive a 2004 S600 V12 BiTurbo for the past 3 plus years and counting. The 65’s torque must be simply unreal. Happy motoring Hoovie :)
Wow Hoovie, outstanding score! My vote keep the Benz, they're so much more solid, and parts are usually fairly easy to obtain. Not to even mention the fact that an S Class is better built than the Bentley overall. I just picked up it's step cousin - a 2010 W221 S63 AMG with the 6.3V8. Love the channel, and Happy New Year!

I was looking at one of these before I bought my CL500 with 88k. The issue for me with older CLs in general are simply the maintaince costs. As much as I love the CL65 the cost for a tune up alone is rediculous compared to the v8. Everything is expensive with these and the only saving grace is if you can do at least some of the maintaince yourself. I love mine and only paid $8700 and it was $120,000 new. So still hell of a deal for the car.
It is so coincidental. I was looking into Mercedes and BMWs that I could do a long commute without putting miles on my Denali. I was actually looking for this vehicle as I remember it from old top gear episodes. Now you have one. Its calling to me. I need one.
Great video! Like the new garage. This video is a great demonstration of what I’d been teaching my kids. Back in the late ‘80s, when I was at university, I lusted after the Mercedes 560SL that the owner of the company I worked at had bought. Back in 1989, he spent $80,000 for the car. By the mid-2010’s I saw these for sale on Craiglist and eBay for $5,000 to $10,000. Meanwhile, had I spent that same $80,000 on a house here in Los Angeles, it would now be worth well over $1M.
Same with Kansas or Minnesnowda. Back in the late 80’s had you just spent $80,000 on a house that same house today, would be worth well over $1 Million plus…. 😂🤣
Hoovie's new garage is still under construction (see recent video.) This is a airport hanger that belongs to a friend of his (I think maybe his father.)
Another great video Hoovie, if i was in your shoes, I'd keep the CL65 it just a better car all around. All of the Mercedes parts can be picked up across town. Unlike the Bently parts, which some of them can only be picked up across the pond. Besides, the CL65 AMG is just laid out better, not to mention rare.
Hi Hoovie, The water on the front floorboard, might be due to the drainage holes (right rear) on your car. I had the same problem years ago. The hose that allows the water to drain out, had a big crease in it causing the water to back up. I hope that yours is a simple fix, like mine was. Have a wonderful weekend. 😎
19 grand for that CL65?! I feel like people forget the CL, but that generation specifically has aged extremely well. Since they never made a new one after that, it's still the newest CL you can get
Have you priced 4 struts for the ABC system on these cars? That alone is 9-10 grand in parts. There is reason these cars are worth paperweight compared to their original values after 15 years
@@za4117 Oh I know how stupid owning these types of cars can be. I've got an XLR-V for which parts just don't exist so anything that goes wrong (or even a light fender bender) basically totals it out - the whole endeavor is a bad idea, but I still like them

Watching Tyler go from making awkward car videos to casually showing us $1 million dollars worth of cars is amazing. Our boy hoovie sure came a long way, I got mad respect for this man... 💯
I had no idea the production numbers on the CL are so low!! Wow! I remember seeing a few of them in my town (Denver) black on black, of course, and a beautiful white on tan with black wheels and accents. I've always loved the huge 2 door coupes from Mercedes. I couldn't believe the twin turbo V12s they were shoveling into their cars too. I remember every person I told about the V12s AND twin turbo, they were blown away, they had no idea those were available in luxury cruisers, haha. I remember the top gear episode on this. Just roasting the rear tires!
Also had nearly 740 lbs of torque. I had the previous generation cl65 for a few months before flipping it. I wanted to keep it so bad but would never have been able to afford to. The pillarless cabin is just gorgeous.
If the SLR had been with the Stirling Moss edition design instead, as a quicker gearbox or even a manual version, not a surprise it was a 7 digit car now easily.
Check the rear subframe. Any rust that creates an hole in the frames means free warranty replacement of the frame. they will replace it even if fixed before.
You can buy a continental any day of the week. Having a twin turbo AMG V12 coupe is something of beauty. Keep the CL65 around please! A new set of wheels will change you’re opinion on the car
For 2008 this car was so far ahead of its time and competition. I love my SL55, and I believe the CL shares the same ABC suspension system, except version 2. FAR more reliable as long as these cars are driven.
I remember when Jeremy clarkson reviewed this car, it was an epic episode... Also i think that charlie Harper had one, and is impressive how modern mercedes were influenced by this car
My 2011 E550 is built like an S 4matic, Air suspension, smooth V8 engine, massage seats with perforated leather, rear sunshade, active seat Bolstering, Harden Karden sound system, tons of leg room, beautiful wood with aluminum accents. I love it.
The CL65 always impressed me along with that 6.0 v12. I valeted and we had a member with a 2008 with 189,000 miles on the original motor and rebuilt trans.
Also on the Bentley Continental, your scuttle drains need to be cleared out which is why your passenger floorboard leaked. This can lead to major problems if you don't fix it like replacing a flooded ECU or kessy system for $$$$. Process is fairly simple and detailed on 6speed forums
There is no debate here. Keep the Mercedes! I've had a CL600 for six years and had no idea how good it is. I had to have a Bentley because they are the best. Bullshit! The Mercedes is better built, quicker, and such a superior car. The Bentley's headliner fell down, the tail lights broke, ($2500 each) air shocks collapsed and a running light couldn't be replaced without pulling the entire front apart, and the little warning tone drove me crazy for 2 years. (Even after I did have the entire front end torn apart to replace the bulb which didn't fix it) . Absolutely non-stop problems with the Bentley and it only had 27K miles when I got it! Mercedes is the absolute best car maker out there.
Great to see you working again! CLS AMG 65 is a perfect purchase. $19,000 is very cheap compared to the price of an S6 or S7. It seems like sports sedans are out and sports SUV's are in. Every time I drive my MDX I wish I was driving my sports sedan. The MDX is purely for cargo capacity (don't get me started with the lack of full-sized station wagons). I think an S6 V8 is in my near future because your CLS65 is just tooooo bespoke for my wife-cost-of-repair-justification wallet.
Excellent video. The S class Mercedes is a great example on why I don’t like people ever referring to Teslas as luxury cars. Nothing from Tesla would ever compared to the quality, manufacturing, engineering, materials, and pedigree in an S class Mercedes.
My friend bomped into Tyler a few years ago in California. He remarked on how down to earth he seemed, and willing to chat. He seems to be a genuine guy
Please please Hoovie. If you ever decide the CL is the one you want to get rid of, give me a call. This is one of the dream cars I’d like to add to my miserly collection.
I remember seeing these when I worked at Mercedes…those cars had such a presence. That back end is so sexy! That v12 is so epic. I drove a w220 s65 with that engine and it pulled so freaking hard!
Whatever happened to Hoovie's Lamborghini tractor resurrection? Ian Tyrell from 'Tyrrell's Classic Workshop' just featured one he rebuilt in a video and it made me remember Tyler's.
I am absolutely LOVING your garage right now. Perfect. My exact style. I have reliable daily’s for the wife and I but all of my others are varying stages of massively depreciated hoopties that I’ve spruced up. Living in your image.
The reason they depreciate so fast is because they turn into giant money pits when they fall apart immediately after the warranty is over. MB used to be a good brand until about the 1990s when they all turned into junk.
The CL of this generation is definitely up there as one of the most beautiful Mercedes cars and idk if its just me but I actually like the CL600 with its totally under the radar look more than the CL65. Nevertheless, good purchase!
My grandmothers brother have a cl65 and it was owned by Zlatan Ibrahimovic which is pretty cool, he have it in his car museum here in Sweden called ”Motala Motormuseum”
I’ve been driving new CL600’s since 2000. When these came out I stopped buying them until 2011. I just couldn’t stomach the pontoon front and rounded front end. When they came out with the 11-14 I starting buying them again. You should have waited and bought an 11-14. Anyway, good luck
You can check the sunroof seal by taking a strip of paper and running it around the rubber gap. A little bit of leakage is normal you can check the sunroof drains by using plastic weed eater line just run it down through whichever drain tubes you can get access to. Then make sure water can flow out of the drains.
FYI Hoovie, that Bentley Kessey module is about to go bad. Once you experience a wet passenger floor board, next comes the failure of the module. Locking the Bentley, completely shutting it into a brick. Sell it now.
I got to drive a handful of these at the dealership fairly short distances but they definitely felt extra. The rock of the chassis with a blip of the throttle and the air bladders in the seat were wild.
You get such good deals! Awesome. You also have Wizard to keep you up and running, and his prices are very reasonable. Neither of these are available here in Alaska......
Great video. I was just looking at some of your old Mercedes videos just having bought one myself 2 days ago. Got myself a 2013 C63 AMG and absolutely love it.
I had a 2008 CL65 here in Scotland in 2016. Just about bankrupted me. I bought it cheap but had to get rid of it after 2 years and over $20k in repairs. Never again a V12. Totally happy with a faultless 2013 E63 and now a 2011 SL63. V8's all the way for me now.
I’m only at the start of the video ( 2:36 ) but I love a CL! I prefer the older one’s though, 1st or 2nd gen! Awesome cars, this though to me looks too much like a sporty 2 door e (or even C) class than a sporty 2 door S class like with 2nd. & 1st. So if I bought one I’d probably go for older, but maybe you’ll change my mind later in the video.
I love these videos because you can find older luxury sport coupes like this with supercar power for an affordable price and it’s still a good looking car for someone that can’t afford a new AMG way cool
1. Keep the cl dump that Bentley. 2. Compare that cl to the newer cl convertible in the hanger. I’d like to see what the newer version gets you for $$ and if it’s worth it or not. Favorite channel by far.
I can't imagine a worse purchase than a new Mercedes. There's a reason they depreciate so much. And a used one is a poor choice too, you get all their fancy tech that will fail and cost thousands. I guess that's why they're perfect for Hoovie.
even tho the CL-65 AMG depreciated by 90%, i am pretty sure the cost to maintain and repair it has not gone down 90% lol. as beautiful as this car is i would be nervous owning it knowing how expensive it is to maintain
Great buy, Hoovie - I own the W221 cousin to your new ride, an '07 S65 AMG. You'll never get tired of the cold start sounds from that V12 ( I know I don't!)
Lol when you spoke about the badges I just had to laugh. I see so many trim kits on cars here in the UAE. ZL1 kits, Audi RS Kits, Hellcat kits, AMG Kits…even seen some Honda Civic Type R ones. It’s more common to see a car with a kit rather than the real thing.

That Era of Mercedes had some nice models that came out. A lot of change with both mechanics and design which looked good and ran good..
The blower motor is controlled by a SAM unit under the hood. I had mine repaired for a few hundred dollars.
If the SLR had been with the Stirling Moss edition design instead, as a quicker gearbox or even a manual version, not a surprise it was a 7 digit car now easily.
I said it before...a BEAST!! I ran one from Florida to NJ...95 on 95!! 80 to 130 was a quick stap of the throttle. Best sounds of that exhaust!!
My cars total 1 MILLION DOLLARS!!!
In depreciation 😂
I love it
Check the rear subframe. Any rust that creates an hole in the frames means free warranty replacement of the frame. they will replace it even if fixed before.
Damn a center screen that turns into a camera in 2008, and it's night vision. Now that's impressive.
Cadillac had night vision available in 2000.
Plus Distronic System which was "borrowed" by tesla for their autopilot.
I love the ABC in my S55. Incredible comfort and also handling in a large car.

I’ve a 2008 CL600, bought in part because of your S600 videos back in the day. These cars (2007-11 S and CL) spoiled me for much anything else.
I remember when Jeremy clarkson reviewed this car, it was an epic episode... Also i think that charlie Harper had one, and is impressive how modern mercedes were influenced by this car
My 2011 E550 is built like an S
4matic, Air suspension, smooth V8 engine, massage seats with perforated leather, rear sunshade, active seat Bolstering,
Harden Karden sound system, tons of leg room, beautiful wood with aluminum accents.
I love it.
I think Citroen C6 with the hydropneumatic suspension beats it in comfort
The 3rd gen CL is one of the most beautiful Mercedes ever made, great choice
The CL65 always impressed me along with that 6.0 v12. I valeted and we had a member with a 2008 with 189,000 miles on the original motor and rebuilt trans.
Retro Hoovie is back! I love it when Tyler buys an old Mercedes 🫡
CL is still one of the most beautiful cars on the road. Whenever I see one I still have to stare. Remember they had a CL600 too! Absolutely lovely.
That CL63 with the NA V8, hit just right.
Also on the Bentley Continental, your scuttle drains need to be cleared out which is why your passenger floorboard leaked. This can lead to major problems if you don't fix it like replacing a flooded ECU or kessy system for $$$$. Process is fairly simple and detailed on 6speed forums
Keep the Benz after sorting it out! I have an 04 CL600 and have been chasing the 65s for a while just due to its rarity.
You can do better than selling gambling
Multi million dollar car collection and you still be uploading in 1080p in 2024. Come on Hoovie!
That CL is one of the most beautiful Mercedes ever made. Absolutely stunning
Is this the cl65 with the $15.000 one dollar o ring
I just bought a 1999 E430 sport in black. One owner with 110k miles. Just did the motor mounts. It’s really nice for a 25 year old vehicle.
I love this generation of the CL, glad you got one!
Love this for you my man a fellow 216 owner it’s our best kept secret and astonishly practical due to the lack of a b pillar
I actually love that CL65. I’d love to own one.
All these baller cars and I can’t take my eyes off the 72 Blazer. That’s the one you should buy.
That's his car already lol!
He bought it a couple years ago
Whatever happened to Hoovie's Lamborghini tractor resurrection? Ian Tyrell from 'Tyrrell's Classic Workshop' just featured one he rebuilt in a video and it made me remember Tyler's.
Just the thought of the amount of money car insurance alone is for the fleet makes me feel all types of broke haha love you hoovie
He runs a dealer plate on most of them
I am absolutely LOVING your garage right now. Perfect. My exact style. I have reliable daily’s for the wife and I but all of my others are varying stages of massively depreciated hoopties that I’ve spruced up. Living in your image.
Did he sell the SLS?
The reason they depreciate so fast is because they turn into giant money pits when they fall apart immediately after the warranty is over. MB used to be a good brand until about the 1990s when they all turned into junk.
The CL of this generation is definitely up there as one of the most beautiful Mercedes cars and idk if its just me but I actually like the CL600 with its totally under the radar look more than the CL65. Nevertheless, good purchase!
My grandmothers brother have a cl65 and it was owned by Zlatan Ibrahimovic which is pretty cool, he have it in his car museum here in Sweden called ”Motala Motormuseum”
the cl has the best wheels acailable for the model but WOW they look awful in chrome
I’ve been driving new CL600’s since 2000. When these came out I stopped buying them until 2011. I just couldn’t stomach the pontoon front and rounded front end. When they came out with the 11-14 I starting buying them again. You should have waited and bought an 11-14. Anyway, good luck
I noticed that the SLS wasn't included
Because the SLS has not depreciated that much.
You can check the sunroof seal by taking a strip of paper and running it around the rubber gap. A little bit of leakage is normal you can check the sunroof drains by using plastic weed eater line just run it down through whichever drain tubes you can get access to. Then make sure water can flow out of the drains.
Moral of the story? Don't by a new mercedes.
$1M in deprecation simply means your buying them for the right reasons.... Thanks for the cool videos!
FYI Hoovie, that Bentley Kessey module is about to go bad. Once you experience a wet passenger floor board, next comes the failure of the module. Locking the Bentley, completely shutting it into a brick. Sell it now.
90% off MSRP is great until you realize you have to put 2k a month in it to keep it on the road.
I got to drive a handful of these at the dealership fairly short distances but they definitely felt extra. The rock of the chassis with a blip of the throttle and the air bladders in the seat were wild.
V12s are my favorite Mercedes engines, and I rarely see them. The 600-series from the 90s through 2013 have always been my dream cars.
This is the actual car for sale just now...ruclips.net/video/Mmd8QliwMhM/видео.htmlsi=wqH1dvsb51mESsbt
Your collection has got to be my favorite in all of RUclips. I love the older Germans, maybe because I got myself a 93 sl
Just imagine. In about 70 years those Benzes are worth more then new. Hoodie will be roughly 95 or so by then.
I love these videos because you can find older luxury sport coupes like this with supercar power for an affordable price and it’s still a good looking car for someone that can’t afford a new AMG way cool
It's interesting how the SLR depreciated in value but the SLS has generally appreciated in value. Especially the Black series SLS
Nice ride. The pillar delete two dr is perfecto look
1. Keep the cl dump that Bentley.
2. Compare that cl to the newer cl convertible in the hanger. I’d like to see what the newer version gets you for $$ and if it’s worth it or not. Favorite channel by far.
I remember seeing a 90's SL600 take of from a light just ahead of us and couldnt believe how it disappeared with almost no sound!
Beautiful cars. Corrosion of ALL the ABC lines killed mine at 59k miles! Ps. Blower motor disables itself when batteries are low to conserve power.
10:59 christmas trees lights flashing on dashboard (check engine, ABS, TRAC) LOL
I can't imagine a worse purchase than a new Mercedes. There's a reason they depreciate so much. And a used one is a poor choice too, you get all their fancy tech that will fail and cost thousands. I guess that's why they're perfect for Hoovie.
even tho the CL-65 AMG depreciated by 90%, i am pretty sure the cost to maintain and repair it has not gone down 90% lol. as beautiful as this car is i would be nervous owning it knowing how expensive it is to maintain
there is only 1 of these for sale in UK on auto trader. 38k dollars . 100k miles, 2008 plate, no accidents. You got yourself a bargain !
Amazon sells car heaters and ac units for $20 if you need to defrost window.. but you have it parked in a Hanger so should be good for the most part
Please hoovie what would I have to do or who do I contact to purchase that CL 65??? Please I've been looking for one
I think Tyler Is at his absolute best when he's really into the collector metrics.
03:30 gambling is a bad thing.
The HHR in the background of million dollar German heritage , is such a Hoovie move.
