I bought a pair of HS4 a few days ago. I'm really impressed so far. Build quality is excellent and the level of detail is the best I've heard for speakers of this size. The bass is tight, natural and not overpowering. They're keepers, for sure :)
@@spellacy29 Are these good for "just listening" near field - with EQ tweaks? Looking at getting HS3's due to space limitations. Love the conservative look of these and the fact that they're not made in china.
Appreciated the comparison and the professional setup, but I thought it was a mistake to not label for the audience which speakers were active at a given time.
Agreed, but from what I can see at 9:40 the first two channels in the mixer are active and the woofer in the HS3 is moving. First two channels are for the hs3, second two for the hs4 and third two for the hs5.
I like the fact that you did not indicate which speakers we were hearing. It forces us not to hear with our eyes. I'm an amateur at best w audiio. This was great. I bought the 4s.
If you are expecting HS3 vs HS4 vs HS5 sound demonstration comparisons, you will need to guess which set of mystery speaker is playing at any given time. But I myself needed to decide between buying HS3 or HS4, so I have reviewed this video extensively & looked for clues on which speaker was playing at any given time, such as movements of the HS3 or HS4 woofers, when Matteo was looking up (when HS5 was playing) & I know he used fingers of both hands to press down hard on the buttons when switching between the 3 speakers. I hope the timestamp listed below will benefit viewers who are facing the same decision of buying HS3 or HS4 like me: 6:24 HS4 6:49 HS3 7:07 HS5 7:24 HS3 7:42 HS4 7:46 HS5 7:53 HS4 7:57 HS3 8:51 HS5 9:00 HS5 9:25 HS4 9:37 HS3 9:50 HS4 9:55 HS3 10:00 HS4 10:03 HS3 10:09 HS4 10:57 HS4 11:12 HS3 11:49 HS3 13:15 HS3 13:38 HS4 14:03 HS5 14:19 HS4 14:22 HS3 15:56 HS3 16:10 HS4 16:26 HS3 16:31 HS5 16:46 HS4 16:48 HS3 16:58 HS4 17:09 HS3 All 3 speakers sounded different and I find that HS4 sounded more spatial, more cavernous while HS3 sounded more upfront with a stronger presence. Matteo himself said that HS3 has more transients at 8:30 while HS4 has better low-end response at 15:17. At 15:21 he said that HS3 seems to have a more interesting mid-range and seems to be more consistent on vocals. In the end, you need to compare the sound from these 2 speakers and determine for yourself which ones you prefer. As for myself, I went for the more lively HS3 and find that it easily trumped both my Edifier R1280DBS and MR4 although the Edifiers have larger 4" woofers.
Thanks for your comment! I'm Just between taking the MR4, 1280db or Yamaha hs4... Didnt find hs3 tô buy here (Brazil)... So, you think i can switch hs4 with no fear? Thanks !!!
@@rodrigocarlini Yes sure, the Yamaha HS4 will sound miles better than Edifier 1280DB or MR4 both in sound resolution & stereo imaging. HS4 will certainly offer you a more authentic & enjoyable listening experience.

The HS4 speakers are absolutely stunning. The bass, mids and highs are absolutely perfectly balanced. I have never owned such good speakers. What I find best is the starkness and purity of how the sound is resolved. You can use the controls to adapt the HS4 perfectly to the space that's a great solution. The HS4 have absolutely no noise, you can completely enjoy the music, especially when recording live, the HS4 always knocks me out of my chair. You can hear every instrument, every little detail, clearly and distinctly and every instrument presents itself wonderfully in the room. I was really overwhelmed by how great the instruments and everything in general sounded. the stereo image is also absolutely perfect. I bought the boxes for €228 on Amazon, super cheap, but I would have paid €350 because they are so good. Yamaha did everything right with the HS4! I really love these boxes. I'm not a producer and need the speakers for gaming and video and multimedia, but they are absolutely oversized and just awesome... It's great fun to listen to songs that came across as boring or bad with other speakers, then listen to them again with the HS4 and Realize, woooow that song is awesome!!! The speakers are a total bomb in terms of quality, sound and price. thank you YAMAHA 😉🤗🤟😎
I just got the HS4s. They are good for a second set of speakers for referencing. You arent gonna hear bass below 60 but you can work around it by learning the speaker and by checking the bass on bigger speakers. I usually start a mix with big speakers to get my bass right then ill go down to smaller speakers like these to work on the mids and highs
Excellent! This is just want I needed in helping me make a decision of what to buy. I'm also glad to learn that they are newly released. I just wished a caption came on screen identifying what was being played, the 3's, 4's or 5's. Perhaps someone can help me out. Thanks a lot.
Is there a 1/4 inch jack for interfaces ? I don’t believe I’ve seen these to work like the hS5s and up Which would be a big bummer for me if they don’t have that connection
I used to use eris3.5 and recently replaced it with hs4. I have a question. When comparing the specifications, the output of hs4 is higher than eris3.5. Why is the volume smaller even when the knobs are set the same?
Hi, I've created a timestamp based on my observation of the speaker woofers, Matteo's double-finger presses to switch speakers and where he's looking when the music is playing, hope it helps you out.
At 10:00 HS4 was playing, based on my observation. Please see timestamps listed in my post. HS4 sounds more distant, HS3 sounds more upfront. It's a matter of preference which one you prefer, but I prefer the tuning on HS3 and bought it.
The listening session part of the video has nothing to do with how the speakers actually sound because the audio firstly has to be recorded by whatever microphone you're using, then it gets processed by whichever programs and filters you're using, then it gets slightly compressed during file export and upload to youtube, then it gets played out through whichever audio output device the viewer is using (in my case my logitech pro x headset) - so that listening session really has absolutely nothing to do with describing how these speakers sound sorry I just had to let out my thoughts, all the love, probably gonna end up buying these speakers if nothing else, it just bothered me so I had to say it haha
iLouds are unmatched, they have some little problems tho. The bluetooth doesn’t always turn off and theres a low frequency rumble that can be annoying but they are the only true high quality PORTABLE studio monitors.
I was expecting these to be like the KRK Goaux 3 and 4. I think marketing these as a portable take with you solution for monitors is not as practical. KRK offers bluetooth, a bag, stands, room correction. The price on the other hand comes too close to a pair in the KRK Rokit line. So if you were interested just on a budget. Its like hmm might as well. Although still interested for the Yamaha sound as I use the HS8. You still may want the perspective of music through a smaller driver.
I think HS4 are like little home studio speakers ..... and KRK AUX 3 and 4 are more for traveling .... no ? (i really dont want bluethoot on my studio speakers lol).
@@ChrisBessy the Goaux 4 sounds decent though good imaging and bass response...and I'm not really a fan of krk that much only because I had Rokit 8s so long and realized how not flat they were for mixing.
