Got to see flyleaf when I was younger and immediately after my band had a show and I was beyond inspired after seeing them to play my best that night lol
That's awesome! I never got a chance to see them live; I would've loved to, as they're a favorite of mine! Seeing live shows definitely has a way of putting a fire in you to go and do the same!

@@QuincyKane I am extremely obsessed with I'm So Sick at the moment, and I also really enjoyed Fully Alive and Cassie. I've so far only listened to their debut album, but I plan to listen to the rest of Lacey's albums down the road (I'm very picky with bands that have replacement leads and usually only listen to the originals, especially if I grew up with them)
@@HannahsMusicAndNovels Flyleaf's opening album is one of the best, but the second album "Memento Mori" is as good if not better! They are a very consistent band with a lot of great songs to check, so take your time!
@@HannahsMusicAndNovels hi i’m so glad ur becoming a flyleaf lover!!! but please please please if you haven’t already listen to justice and mercy it’s so good and i think it’s heavily underrated

Hey Quincy! Quick word of advice to ask from you: do you believe a cover band could pull off playing this song from start to finish without a bassist to accompany the melody? I am writing a book where the band (the first one, anyhow) lacks a bassist and therefore has been performing with multiple temporary players for 2 years, now playing without as of the first 9 chapters. (So sorry for the randomness of the question and the mouthful of a comment this is 😬)
Well, I think this song "could" be played without a bassist, but there would have to be some modifications, and it might not sound as good.
One possibility, a single guitar could play the intro in place of the bass, and then the rest of the band kicks in as usual; it would probably sound fine, but it would be kinda "thin" without the low end from the bass.
They could counteract this issue by boosting the low end EQ on the guitars and drums, or playing in a lower tuning. They could even use an "Octave" pedal to create an artificial low end that places one octave lower than what the guitar is playing, of course, they'd have to simplify/modify the guitar part to single notes or power chords.
Another possibility would be to play with a backing track (kinda like I do); they could have in-ear monitors with a click-track to keep everyone on time, and then have a pre-record bass track play along with them. The band Periphery doesn't currently have a bassist, and so they play along with a bass track.
Another option, if the band has 2 guitarists, one of them could play bass instead. Especially for a song like "I'm So Sick", the band could pull it off with only 1 guitar and 1 bass. I, personally, would rather have 1 guitar and 1 bass over 2 guitars and no bass. Or, if they had a keyboard player, the keyboardist could play a "synth bass" on the keys.
So, there are definitely a few different solutions the band could attempt; I hope that gives you some ideas for your story! That's so cool that you're writing a book; definitely keep me posted about it, and let me know if you have any more questions or need any more help!
@@QuincyKane Dang, didn't even think of a backing track to take place of the bass! Thanks!
I guess that leads to another question: as a local band playing in a rather small music joint, how would the band go about setting that backing track up? There are 2 lead singers (male & female), one of which is singing while the other waits his turn to sing the next cover.
And how soon after one cover is concluded can the band begin playing the next? Is there a certain amount of time in between songs, or can they all jump straight into the next one?
@@HannahsMusicAndNovels Hey, I replied to you on Discord; I hope it helps!
Must say, nice name (and guitar)

what amplifier do you use?
This video was a while back, but I'm pretty sure I was using the Vox VT40+, although it might have been the Crate GLX65.
Now, I actually just use free amp sims I downloaded from online; here's a video where I talk about that:
ruclips.net/video/oSmM9R8GBAk/видео.html
You messed up the wording of the first riff
What pedal?
For this video, I'm actually using a combo amp (the Vox VT-40+) that has built in effects. You just need a "Chorus" effect combined with some "Delay"; some amps have these effects built in, or you could always buy a pedal (like the H20 Liquid Chorus & Delay pedal by Visual Sound) or possibly use "plugins" from recording software on your computer.

What’s the strumming pattern?
The main riff starts on the "up" beat, so you'll strum up on the "and" before the "1".
Example:
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 "AND" 1...
The next chord in the riff (the open bar chord) is also on the "up" beat, so once again you will strum up, but after that the remaining chords are played on every beat, so you just keep strumming down and up.
If you watch me play the riff at the beginning of the video, you can see that my hand is moving down and up the whole time, so you just have to sync that with the timing of the riff. I hope that helps!
Quincy Kane Morris yess that helps a lot and sorry I had a blonde moment 😂but thank you!
