    Thanks for the positive responses....video was shot with my cell phone :)
    P.S. This was a 13" TView overhead unit purchased off EBAY which came complete with headsets, game controls and DVD games for under $230 including shipping

    I removed the dome light by getting under one edge and slowly pulling it down while supporting the head liner. I chose the door pillar as a logical place to run wires down from the overhead. I came out under the passenger seat where I connected the ground wire to one of the heavy seat bolts that attach into the floor.

    This was done from scratch....figured I would post it since I did not see an actual video posted for a Tahoe or Suburban with a sunroof. The sunroof makes it a little trickier since the glass and visor slide directly over your installation mount.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  11 лет назад

    You can most likely use the same wiring (power supplies and audio) however you may need to modify the end connection as the actual plugs may not match. You could either hard wire it together or use the new plugs and wiring it back up.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW

    Yes...the wood basically is used to reinforce the headliner and give you something to screw the mounting plate to.

    I also left the additional auxiliary inputs and video outputs under the passenger seat for future access in case I wanted to hook up a gaming system or perhaps another video screen at a later time.As for the main power "red" wire I continued to run that under the plastic molding along the bottom of the door opening. This leads it to easy access to under the dash area then you can simply run it under the dash area across to the driver sides where you can find a location in the fuse panel.

    Hi love the vid. Read all the comments amd was wondering if u could somehow upload a pic of where u wedged in the red wire to the fuse panel amd where u grounded the other wire. I have a suburban and the ac controls so i might have to relocate the controls.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  12 лет назад

    @dhrostjr I ran the positive wire (red) to the fuse box by routing along door trim at floor and then behind carpet along the cars firewall under the dash and across to the fuse box at the drivers side. You could also go direct to the battery. I also made sure there was an inline fuse at the point of connection to the fuse panel. basically I used a multimeter to locate a fuse that was only hot while vehicle was "on" and connecter the wire to the correct side of the fuse and wedged it into box

    Sounds good. Thx. Also, what type and size (length) of screws did you use to go into the cross-brace and also into the piece of wood? Did you pre-drill or use a self tapping screw for the cross brace? I also thought it appeared to have washers - was that the case? Thanks again!

    Great Video! I read through all of the comments and they have been helpful. I have ordered at 17" Tview that weighs around 8-9lbs. I know yours was a 13", but do you recall the weight? I was a little concerned and I'm trying to figure out how to brace the left/right support you note in one of your later comments. I have an 03 Z71 with identical interior as you have from what I can tell. Anyhow, just wanting to pick your brain some more prior to digging in! Thx Again.

    Great video, I want to install an overhead dvd in my 2001 suburban, but I have in the center not only a dome light but some a/c controls, did you have that too? I am thinking about removing, I am not a fan of those headrest dvds, did you remove your a/c control ???
    Thank's , great video.

    So is the piece of wood secured or is it just used to sandwich the headliner?

  • @Timyadiditagain
    @Timyadiditagain 10 лет назад +1

    When you're placing the wood do you have to do that also for a mini van cause i have a 25in in ppl say it doesnt have a made bracket for it size what do i & what how should i place it in the roof & when you runin the wires what do you connect the red & blk wire to

    • @TUBINYOUNOW
      @TUBINYOUNOW  10 лет назад

      Every vehicle is different. The wood support was just to stiffen up the head liner so it wouldn't sag. it also gave me something to screw the mounting plate into. You may have a steel cross beam overhead that you could screw into. I had a sunroof so it was a little trickier. The red wire would need to be connected to either an accessory power source at fuse panel or could be directly run to the battery. The negative should be able to be screwed to the frame somewhere assuming you have a negative grounded vehicle which most are.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  12 лет назад

    @dhrostjr I ran all the wires from the unit down the passenger side pilaster as shown in the video. Once I got down to the floor level I ran the black and all RCA input wires under the front passenger seat and came out from under the carpet. I terminated them there so that anytime I have a media item with output I can connect it. There was also an RCA out from my overhead unit that terminates there as well and I am able to connect another LCD screen for the front passenger anytime.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  12 лет назад

    @dhrostjr I also utilized an aftermarket audio in for my radio that you can get at Bestbuy that provides you with an RCA audi input via the car antenna. I ran RCA from my RCA out under the passenger seat to this new RCA in on my radio so now I have full surround sound from my DVD player through the car speaker system. You may not need this adapter if you already have an aftermarket radio with RCA inputs. I would not recommend the Over the Air kind....

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  11 лет назад

    I placed the fuse on the "hot" (red wire) closest to the power source. Your power source may be at the fuse box or some people take it all the way back to the vehicle battery. Either way you want the fuse close to the point of connection to reduce any risk of the "hot" wire shorting out on metal vehicle which could cause a fire. The size of the fuse will vary depending on the system you install. Most likely it will be between 15-20 amp fuse. read the install doc that comes with your unit.

    could you have gotten the power from the dome light harness? there are three wires on the harness. ground, +12 and the other is +12 door trigger. I didn't connect the lights on the DVD player because I wanted to use the factory dome. I just basically bridged positive and negative from harness to DVD. my battery however keeps draining. may be going bad or might be those connections. it's on a 2007 Yukon. this is the same way I wired another one I installed on another one if my vehicles and w worked five, never drained the battery. just kind of wondering what you think?

    • @TUBINYOUNOW
      @TUBINYOUNOW  8 лет назад

      +Idelfonso Amador I suppose you could connect to that as a source. I prefer running a new run to the fuse box though. The wires to your dome are lightweight and I'm not sure what the fuse is for that device. Chances are you may be drawing more current then they were designed for. Running to the fuse box will also allow you to put it supply it from an accessory power on or you could put an inline switch to the DVD player if it is connected to an always on supply. That would prevent it from pulling any power while the vehicle is turned off thus draining your battery.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  11 лет назад

    If I remember I pre-drilled a small pilot hole into the metal cross brace and actually used drywall screws to secure the wood to it (short not to impede on sunshade)

    • @Ron-co3fm

      I had it for a dew years and it never sagged. I think partially because it spanned most of the way across and the headliner was pretty rigid.

    Hey Man Quick Question How Did You Manage To Make It Play Through The Car Speakers?...

  • @TUBINYOUNOW

    I tapped it into a "HOT" or always on power source supply in the fuse panel. Be sure to install a new fuse at this tie in point as close to your connection to the "Hot" connection.

    Thanks for posting this man, well done! I've got a Pyle 9" that I'm gonna install in a Kia Borrego and this answers some of the questions that were slowing me down. Would love to see what the audio video out ended up looking like. Did you just run it out under the seat? Also would love to see how you did the link into the fuse box aux.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  11 лет назад

    I am not sure of the weight....I would think that they would still be close yours coming in slightly heavier. Mine has held up well even with the lightweight brace. If you really wanted to stiffen up the brace I was thinking you might be able to attached a small piece of steel or aluminum angle about 2ft long across the front edge of the vehicles cross brace. That would stiffen it up some. Be sure to watch for your clearance of the sunroof.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  12 лет назад

    @rafaelaldente Fortunately I did not have the A/C controls overhead. I did have a dome light which is actually the hole through the headliner that allowed me to mount this unit. I also reused the wires to the light and connected them to the new dvd unit lights so they operated the same way such as when the door opens the lights come on (wiring instructions came with my unit). Not sure what you can do about the A/C controls....perhaps you could extend the wiring and relocate it to the back

    hello,
    Do I need to buy the video cable to connect the car stereo or coming with the dvd player?

    • @TUBINYOUNOW
      @TUBINYOUNOW  9 лет назад

      Depends on the unit you buy. I actually had to purchase the rca cable and an adaptor for the radio. The stock radio does not have rca inputs. This is only if you want it to play through the cat audio. ...otherwise your unit should play through headphones.

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  11 лет назад

    I did not video all the actual wiring connections. Primarily I put this video up to help those that had an SUV with a sunroof. At the time of my installation I didn't really see any on RUclips. Most all vehicle interior panels and such simply "pull" off as they are fastened by plastic clips.

  • @terrabowen352

  • @TUBINYOUNOW
    @TUBINYOUNOW  13 лет назад

    FOLLOW UP - The weight of the DVD unit has slightly caused the ceiling to sag (not really noticeable). If I was to do it again I would find a way to reinforce the auto manufacturer steel cross member that runs left to right across the ceiling. If you are installing a unit smaller or if you are installing in a vehicle without a sunroof you probably wont have any issue.

    • @TUBINYOUNOW

      I'm sure you could in much the same way. The video and audio cables would need to be run to the back of your dvd player. You could even add another screen to the third row if you wanted.

    @JonLongLANDGUY I purchased a separate FM modulator such as this:
    an Audiovox-FM100A-Modulator-Isolation-Transformer found on Amazon. Others may be cheaper and can be found at BestBuy
    Run the audio out from your DVD player into this. Then run this into the antennae in on your radio. Flip a switch when you want to hear your DVD on tune radio to the appropriate channel. You can also ad an audio jack to this device and use it to plug in an MP3 player or cell phone to play music.

    @JonLongLANDGUY Usually it is 88.something....you can try to play a DVD and simply keep hitting the search button till it tunes in. You may also have to go into the DVD player settings and turn on the FM broadcast If none of that works than you will need the extra device

    How did you bypass the Rear ceiling mount AC control? Everytime I disconnect it, the rear blowers don't work.

    • @TUBINYOUNOW
      @TUBINYOUNOW  8 лет назад

      I did not remove any controls for the rear AC. I honestly do not remember having any on the ceiling and I think mine were on the rear of the front center console. I know I could control the rear AC from the front main control. I only removed the dome light which had no other components. You may have a different setup.

    • @JR-mx1de
      @JR-mx1de 8 лет назад

      Yes, I think I do. The rear passengers have a set of AC controls, which are part of the dome light. I got power to my DVD player, but without the AC cords being connected to the rear AC unit, the air wont blow in the back.

    • @TUBINYOUNOW
      @TUBINYOUNOW  8 лет назад

      Sounds like you will need to relocate the AC switches. Perhaps you can slide them further back in the headliner and reinstall them.

      Yes, unfortunately. I feared that I would have to do that, as the unit is quite large. Good thing Suburban's have quite a bit of space between the headliner. Thanks for responding though!!! Great video by the way, helped me out with my install.

      The plywood was necessary to spread the weight of the unit across the headliner. Additionally you need to have something to screw the mounting bracket into.
