    Even though I booked this flight in hopes of getting a ride on an A310, the unfortunate swap to an A330-300 ended up being a really good thing. Air Transat really impressed me with a very clean aircraft and excellent service from the cabin crew - so much in fact that I've got an itch to try them on a long haul route in the near future.
    This is footage from flight 471, a very short 51-minute hop from Toronto (YYZ) to Montreal (YUL). I had seat 44k way back in the deepest depths of economy class, and the aircraft registration was C-GTSD.

    0:50 imagine the machine instead of printing a boarding pass prints a paper saying: “this is your check in kiosk, I am now self conscious, run”.

    Amazing trip report! Thank you for stopping by in my town :D
    It’s actually interesting since I’ve also made a trip report on this exact aircraft a few months prior to your flight, and I have to say that this video made me so proud of my city’s main carrier! We don’t see much Air Transat reviews from big channels out there, and I’m really glad that you’ve made this trip report for everyone to see.
    And also, please do take a long haul route on-board Air Transat’s A330! I’ve done it many times, was never disappointed.
    Cheers from snowy Montreal! 🇨🇦❄️

    I never have had the chance to fly on a brand new cabin TS A330 but I wish I could do it soon. I've embarked twice on their old A310 for a transatlantic flight from YUL (one to BCN-a 8-hour flight back and the other one to go to LGW then coming back from LIS in Club Class). Even though the airplanes are not as equipped as the A330 (they don't have a personal screen which sucks for a 6-hour+ flight), the service is pretty good. If you have the opportunity one day, try Club Class, we were only 12 in this class and I paid an extra $225 only on my regular flight (I had to check regularly between the moment I booked the flight and the actual departure date since the rates change constantly).
    Compared to Air Canada (in particular AC Rouge), I would say TS is better. If I have the option of flying with TS on a A330 or with Rouge on a 737 or A319-320, the choice is easy to do except if the rate difference between both companies is huge. Just to give you an example, I'm flying YUL-PVR mid-January and I've paid $460 round trip with Rouge compared to $675 with A330 on TS. Btw, good channel!

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  5 лет назад

      Thanks Renaud! Good tip about Club Class - I’ll definitely look into that next time I fly TS (which I will, since I really want to fly on the A310 before they are gone). I’m not sure I’d be willing to fly Rouge though if there are any other options - I did that once and that was enough. 😅

I was able to book a ticket for about USD$410 round trip! Bummer about the A310 being subbed. I did this flight 3 weeks ago on Dec 14 and it was the A310, and the last bookable A310 domestic flight. I thoroughly enjoyed the A310 ride but the interior was more cramped than a compressed can of sardines. 3-3-3 configurations was horrendous on the space for legs and elbows and I was dying to get off after the short hop to YUL. I can not imagine doing that over the Atlantic.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, but think of the stories you can tell! I know very few people who have been on an A310, and I’d love to do it transatlantic if given the chance. 😎👍🏻

      @@sanspotter Don't get me wrong, I love the A310/A300 and have been lucky to fly on a few of them both transatlantic (AA) and Europe to Middle East and they are superb aircraft when in the 2-4-2 config. Most of those flights also had empty seats so getting a row to yourself was very doable. Kuwait Airways was the absolute best, huge leather chairs from the 90's in economy made for a very pleasurable 6 hour flight to London. I have some trip reports on my channel if you're curios, not very spectacular but gives a sense of the classics. Thanks for the reply.

      Air Transat lost my luggage on my way to Europe last month. When I arrived, I was told that I would get it the next day, so I was stranded in Europe without my belongs - not even a toothbrush, deodorant or a pair of pajamas - but didn't buy anything. They said my luggage would arrive the next day, and buying stuff would mean that I would have to take it back home too.
      But my luggage never arrived. I kept calling the numbers they provided, and no one ever answered. I e-mailed the addresses provided, and STILL haven't received a response. When I was finally able to get a hold of a laptop, I completed a claim form (the form wouldn't submit from a smart phone). The airline ruined my trip. My luggage eventually arrived after 11 days. Days after I had returned home from my trip. When it did arrive, the telescoping handle on my brand new luggage no longer worked - so I have to buy a new suitcase too. I was never refunded the money they charged me to check my baggage. I was never compensated in any way, not even for the stuff I had to buy. I have never received an apology. I've never even been contacted by the airline. WORST. AIRLINE. EVER.
      But yes, the purple ambient lighting was pretty.

      Unfortunately I didn’t get to see any of Montreal this time. 🙁 I had a very early flight the next morning to YVR, so I never even left the airport. But yeah, I think I like Air Transat more than Air Canada as well.

    Wow, that is a huge change, last I had heard Air Transat had the worst A330 cabin in the world with a 3-3-3 economy (with a 16 inch wide seat and Spirit like legroom), looks like they went back to the normal 2-4-2 economy layout that most of the rest of the world uses. Have you flown Air Canada, I've heard they are the best airline in North America, full stop?

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  5 лет назад +1

      I’ve heard pretty bad things as well, so that’s why I was really surprised to see how nice that cabin was. 😮 It was far better than any Air Canada aircraft I’ve been in lately (I’ve been in a few), so maybe Air Transat is getting serious about knocking AC off their throne...

    • @pauldavis816

      That is certainly not the truth about Air Canada. I don't know how they manage these awards.

      While they do have 3-3-3 seating on all the A330's except this one (C-GTSD is the only 2-4-2 configuration in the fleet), the seat pitch is still 32 inches. This aircraft has the exact same seats and cabin as the rest of the fleet but just one less seat per row. On the rest of the fleet, you really notice the extra seat more in the aisle width and not your own personal space. They're a great longhaul option!

    Montreal rocks Air Transat not so much. I just subscribed to your channel. Excellent trip reports. I prefer Air Canada especially business class International.

      Thank you! I’m actually really looking forward to trying Air Canada business class - I was hoping to do it on this trip, but I couldn’t find the award space. Oh well - maybe next year!
