  • We fly with a Lancair IVPT (Turboprop) to Winter Haven Florida for brunch. This Lancair IVPT N994PT flies at more than 305 KTAS or 350+ MPH. Fly along with two Lancair IVs as we travel around Florida and get breakfast/lunch at the Winter Haven Airport Restaurant.
    Some Saturdays, along with the other Lancair pilots in the neighborhood, we fly to breakfast. After breakfast and some photo ops, we flew back to Spruce Creek (7FL6). Nailed the landing...

    Beth and I really enjoyed our flight for brunch with you and Laura during our last trip to Spruce Creek from the Great White North.. Recent shoulder surgery, a very busy personal life (finishing Joe's Lancair IVPT and my log home project), and my dealership have kept me from regular trips to Florida this winter. I promise to change that next winter!! We can't wait for another Saturday morning venture like this one!! Tom

    This whole new crop of single engine turboprops is so exciting for GA, at one time I thought everybody wanted Jets, but these machines are gonna fly within the same approximate speed ranges, while maintaining the short field capabilities of a propeller machine, the best of both worlds.

    • @gaFlights
      @gaFlights  2 года назад +2

      Yeah agree with you on the excitement of the turboprops especially with all of the pressure on 100LL. There are some turboprops in the 200hp range as well. This should bring some exciting possibilities to general aviation.

    Looks to be something amiss with the elevator of your plane. I notices in the climb it was slightly down and more down straight and level?

    • @gaFlights
      @gaFlights  2 года назад +1

      Good eye and thanks for the comment. The person that owned this plane before me put a new carbon fiber composite prop on the plane. This prop is significantly lighter than the aluminum prop that it replaced and shifted the CG of this plane back almost 1 inch. That is a lot on a small plane like this. It really turned this plane into a two person plane with limited luggage in the rear seats. Less than 120 pounds in the rear seats. If you put more weight in the back this would load the plane outside of the CG envelope which would not be good in a Lancair or any other plane.

    Does the Columbia 300,350 and 400 share the same fuselage as the IV-P and Mako?

    • @gaFlights
      @gaFlights  2 года назад +1

      I'm sure there are some differences I have been in all 5 aircraft. For example the IV-P has a pressure bulkhead right behind the rear seats so the baggage area isn't pressurized and it isn't accessible from inside the aircraft. But by in large the dimensions are roughly the same.

  • @DanFrederiksen
    @DanFrederiksen 3 года назад +1

    Pretty cool. It's probably smoother and maybe more quiet and it's a bit faster but not much. And I imagine dramatically more expensive.
    We need tiny cost effective turbofan jets for half ton planes. Nothing short of a revolution. Of course pales in comparison to when we get UFO disclosure which seems to be getting closer these days. Even has a clause in the recent stimulus bill requiring agencies to disclose what they have a short time from now. Should we get disclosure, it will be the biggest revolution ever by far. Everything will change. Not least in the speed department. There will be personal craft that can not only reach any place on earth in minutes but go to the moon in seconds and even mars with little effort.

    • @gaFlights
      @gaFlights  3 года назад +2

      I have to admit I have two favorite alien movies - Mars Attacks and The Watch.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 3 года назад +1

      @@gaFlights slightly on the silly side, understandable. I'm more leaning to the awesome side where a seamless craft can be in a quiet forest and step into black space and have earth disappear to a point in a fraction of a second and lean into tens of thousands of times the speed of light without any felt g or sound. You see Roswell actually happened 74 years ago and since then numerous other craft have been retrieved and studied. Way longer than my entire life this world has been a lie and I low key consider that treason and I want the truth. And in recent years, the secrecy has started to crack. The Navy has acknowledged the 2004 USS Nimitz encounters with the socalled tic tac crafts and Hillary Clinton and chief of staff Podesta intended for disclosure had they won. Bill Clinton looked into two things when he first became president, who killed JFK and what is known about UFOs. I can tell you from 3 decades of research that it's real. And they are waiting for us to wake up. It's not a curious hypothetical, not a comic book hobby, it's actually real. And even freakier than you would think. Less silly that Mars Attacks. One cute element is that one of the usual suspect ET races that have a permanent presence here are blonde fit beautiful caucasian humans. Socalled nordics in UFO lore. And all ET species are telepathic, compatible with us, emphasized by eye contact. As a natural ability, not technological. And from what I gather they all share our DNA structure. Strange but true.

    What do you think of the new LX7s?

    • @gaFlights
      @gaFlights  2 года назад +1

      Well now that is a reaching question. From what I’ve seen, and this is just my opinion, there is good and bad.
      Good
      -Stall Characteristics
      -Fuel and Range Capacity
      ?
      -IMHO - It isn’t a Lancair anymore. The wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, control surfaces are completely new. For example a Lancair has all pushrods for the elevator and aileron control. A LX7 has pulleys for aileron control. The original Lancair wings and stabilizer surfaces are discarded and these new components are bonded in. As such the flight envelope is completely different as well. For example the VNE of a Lancair IVP is 274 KIAS. A LX7 220 KIAS.
      ?? - So the Lancair airframe is experimental and the LX7 takes an experimental airframe and cuts it up and makes it into something. Other people will obviously have different opinions.

    Such a great plane until it doesn’t. You need to be an excellent pilot without a ton of experience or you will end up in a roll over stall. Upgrade it to an LX7 by RDD if you have one and you can afford it

    • @gaFlights
      @gaFlights  2 года назад +2

      I completely agree with your comments on a Lancair IVP. They have to be flown within the "numbers" and the are unforgiving. However when they are flown within the "numbers" they are a great flying airplane with impressive capabilities. For the price of an LX7 I'd rather spend that on a Piper Meridian and have a cabin class airplane. Thanks for the question.
