    We’ve covered now 3 models of the Lancair aircraft. And they are all undeniably fast. We’ll call this 360 model the tie breaker.
    The Lancair 360 is a remake or newer model of the 2 seater Lancair 320. Similar airframe but with more horses on the nose. The Lancair 360 is powered by a Lycoming IO 360 standard, which gives a power output of 180 hp. The model featured in this video is powered by a modified Lycoming engine 375 which puts you at a higher horse power.
    Here are some performance specs of the Lancair 360.
    Capacity: 2
    Engine: Lycoming IO 375
    Range: 900 miles
    Speed: 235 mph
    Useful load: 595 lbs
    Price: $150k - $200k

    Mike - Another fantastic overview. This video make me appreciate all of the time that I spent building this Lancair. 8 years roughly 2,600 hours of building time to get it ready for its first flight. Your videos bring a fresh perspective to aviation and we all enjoy your passion for flight. --- Blue Skies

    Lancairs are the best experimental kits out there. The reputation for speed and the looks second to none. I wish they built a single seater race plane with narrow fuse and take it to Reno powered by an IO-720. Fantasy land but who knows, hope someone is listening!

    Beautiful airplane.
    Shows the builder/owner has great taste and a lot of creativity.
    Don't listen to the haters, you got a lot more right than any minor mistakes. People don't know how hard it is to do a one-take video with real time commentary. (Actually they do, that is why they comment and complain instead of making their own damn videos, because they suck at everything and their technical knowledge is their only area they can feel accomplished).

      Thanks for the feedback. I look for 3 gear down and locked green lights then I give a quick visual double check with the cameras. This gives one more validation that the gear is down and locked. I had a gear down micro switch fail once, and I was able to use the camera to confirm that the gear was indeed down and locked before I landed.

Along the top - Rudder Trim, Elevator and Aileron Trim, Auto Pilot Disconnect, mid way down on the stick the button switch is Com2 Freq. Swap, on the front of the stick the Trigger is Push to talk. There is another switch in the front below the trigger and that is a com1 freq. swap. There are two switches on the throttle lever - left side is the cowl flap position, right side - smoke on/off.

    Nice introduction to a beautiful bird, Mike. Your comments about size and seating position are bang on - their interiors are "small". Many have said you could be 6' and fly a 360 but it's tighter than my preference. You should checkout/fly the big brother ... the Legacy has more room by far, nearly same/better economy, faster speeds, but alas costs more. I happen to know where you can find one to check out ... :)

      Pi In The SKY I AM 6’5” would I fit in the Legacy? I have just over an inch in a RV10 and kind of brush my hair in a Sling TSI. I like the Sling ease of build but didn’t like the aesthetics of the pulled rivets. Also the engine is cool but relatively unknown regarding service and durability. Super capable yet still a bit under speed & powered vs a Lancair. I don’t know but it’s saving grace maybe it’s flight & landing manners vs a Legacy, anyone care to comment?

    • @PiInTheSky
      @PiInTheSky 2 года назад

      @@timduncan8450 6'5" would probably be "tight". I am 6'1" and have had taller passengers (6'2"ish?) with no issues. Best way to know is find an owner and convince him or her to take you up :) The Legacy has no bad habits to speak of flying or landing - see my video on this: ruclips.net/video/SE-V_7lZeXo/видео.html - it just comes in a lot faster. Once I made the transition no issues.

      In this case it's not for creating extra HP, it's just a lever used to close/open a vent for the air intake to help control the dynamic pressure going into the intake so that it'll remain at least a little constant from idle to the 250ish knots (or however fast this thing goes) that this thing is going to see. As for the air-brake/ram-air thing, he just got'em mixed up, it does have air brakes, just a different lever.

The fuel injected continental engine in da20's was so full of problems we had to restrict maneuvers untill diamond fixed it, we had engine failures after spins , and on reduction of power, (Usually on the round out) and for no reason. While Lancairs are ahead of the rest or were, it can be much better still. So much potential for affordable GA. Over 600km/h for less than a new Cub. Light, high, fast, reclined tear drop composite, twin turbofan jets, pressurized. Jet has a reputation for being expensive, that's the crippling lie. But if your 2 seater plane weighs 160kg you don't need 2 15million dollar rolls royce engines, you need 2 10kg jets. And material strength is much greater at smaller scales, meaning you don't need as stringent engineering. Another crippling lie is that jets use a lot of fuel but a turbofan is very different from a turbojet and a completely normal Williams FJ44 turbofan engine took a plane all the way around the world without refueling. Flying 77 hours non stop travelling 41,467 km. Let me see a piston best that. The simple glaring truth is that a tiny jet can be made for pennies. And you can spend all that junk Lycoming or Incontinental weight on fuel instead. Go transatlantic in your twin jet and show just how great a crime a Cub is.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 3 года назад

      @@motionsic not model jet engines but tiny compared to other planes. And turbofans, the sonic uses a turbojet, no bypass, costly in fuel and the sonic is a crude canvas plane and not pressurized. The key to making a jet fuel efficient is high and fast. We are talking FL400+ service ceiling. The body would be teardrop a bit like a glider plane but transonic nuances, very slender rear spine, skinny razor wings, maybe semi long for the size if material allows, carbon fiber because it's stiffer and just the double compound curvature hull will be rigid enough so very light. A jet has a reputation for being expensive but the small size is actually a simple device so could be set up for 'dirt cheap' mass production and then things change.

      Dan Frederiksen I’d like to see how your concept measure up against the new Celera 500L or scaled down version of it, with V12 engine.

    Rediculous engine choice.

    The 360 only seats 2. It's a fat SLSA. It's max gross is only 1600lbs. The Cirrus SR22T flys 20ktas slower but seats 5 @ 3600 lbs. gross. I can put a V8 in a Mazda Miata and beat a Ferrari too...what does it prove? You are once again comparing apples and raisins.

    360 powered up to 375? Never heard that in aviation before.
    Oh, increased displacement you mean to say. Then say so!
    Airplanes have keys to start so no one can steal it. Its simple and works.
    A push to start on the stick? What an utter stupid idea is that? Do you have any idea about safety and aircraft tech?

      I don't understand the big whoop about push-button engine starters - even for automobiles. I flew several Citabrias back in the late 70s'. To engage the engine starter, you pushed a spring-loaded button, not turn a key. The few light aircraft I did fly back then, mostly Cessnas, had keyed starter switches. Push-button or turn-a-key, I don't see the issue as a hill to die on.
      Phraseology? Yeah... If the term "body frame" (instead of 'airframe', or 'fuselage') came up during a pilot's oral exam I was giving, let's just say that what should last a little less than two-hours is gonna go on and on until proper terms are used. Also, I wouldn't accept "hitting" as it pertains to operating any switch.
