Lancair IV-P are stupid fast. But these planes also have some of the highest accidents and fatality rates. This is not the plane for a beginner or novice pilot. I flew with Lance Neibauer when he still owned the company in a 320 back in 1990 I think, when I was considering buying one. That airplane was a joy to fly; nimble & responsive. His salesman/chief pilot was not available that day so Lance took me up.

This was the kit plane I originally dreamed of owning the most while I was studying to be an A&P mechanic back in college. Damn the 90's were so long ago.

When you rate an aircraft in the experimental category you can’t really judge the panel, wood trim, wing tips or details by the model year or manufacturer . The finish and details are entirely in the control of the builder. This is an incredible example of the type. Fly it if you get the chance.

Hello Robert Clark Sales Director of Lancair International. Great Video!, Yep Mojo nailed it. One of the literal "Time Machines" provided by Lancair International. The LIV-P and LIV-PT (trubine) are some of the most sought after aircraft in the market for those who A) respect the flight numbers .. (Airspeed, etc) and B) have the need to get from A to B in just about the shortest time!. Lancair Still supports the Lancair fleet to include the LIV-P (as well as all lancairs). However Lancair dose not produce this platform (LIV) in kit form. Hats off MOJO for the attention to the Lancair aircraft and community. Next trip to Texas please come visit us MOJO!.. KUVA (Uvalde Texas)!
The Lancair was the experimental (kit) version ... the Columbia were the certified versions (300/350 normally aspirated, and the 400 turbo). I never flew the Lancair, but I've flown both the 350 and the 400 ..... fantastic airplanes (built like a tank - Utility category, by the way, unlike the Cirrus').

It could be mentioned the pressure recovery. Great invention, decreasing drag, probably first introduced in Lancair 235/320. Nice clips anyway, thank you.
Very nice plane, exquisitely built as well. I briefly considered building a IV after my first Oshkosh visit in 2008 - Sling Aircraft didn’t exist back then! 250 knots is nice, but I’m sure that IO-550 goes through gas pretty quick. I’ll be happy to follow behind this one in my relatively slow Sling :-)
I recognize this plane, it’s in my community! Hopefully you also got a chance to check out the Swearingen SX300’s while you were here! Tons of them are based in SC! They are fast, but only a 2 seater. Would have loved to have shown you the 2 my husband and I own. We just swapped engines in one and the other we are still building.

Yeah, the Lance is a beautiful airplane. Not sure if I'd pay more than a half a mil when I can spend that kind of money buying a twin or SR22 or both. Keep up the great work man! Awesome videos! I'm learning a great deal.
Check out the Panthera. I like the look of it and I like the conventional stick. I have learned to us the side joy stick of my SR22 but I would much rather have it in the middle .
Guys just to give u a BETTER understanding of this aircraft. It can do 335mph, fly at FL290 easily AND set a world speed record of pole to pole plus breaking other speed records as it went along. I think the pilots name was Bill Harrelson. Also a range using the normal fuel tanks “u can install the larger ones if u wish” of 1250 with legal fuel reserves still available. That baggage compartment goes right back as well so u can get 4 ppls luggage in. Th Evolution is the newest version if u want to check it out.

Production planes don't even begin to compare to advanced experimental planes. When you buy one already built, you usually buy for the cost of materials. The 2000 man hours is free. The craftsmanship is better then production because these planes are built by A-Type pilots who have exquisite attention to detail.
I remember this plane from the 1990s. I wonder how many of them actually got built. Not exactly a simple thing to do. There was also a turbo prop version of that aircraft
360 pressurized 4p kits have been completed as of 2011 or the end of their production, a new company out of Oregon has picked them up RDD it is now called the lx7 with revised wings and other bells and whistles, the lx7-20 is the turbine model that is still being produced.
Ryan Thomas ya I’ve got a few hours in one she glides like a rock. Everyone says stalls are deadly in these, but I’ve done a few and once you have pitch reversal you just relax the back pressure and add right rudder as you recover, if you keep the ball in the center it is just a normal stall.

It is a beautiful plane that - if Peter can keep the price anywhere near what he hopes - will outclass nearly every other single-engine airplane in overall performance and value on the market. If you're willing, contact Peter and see if he is ready to be interviewed yet. He is currently testing out of KVLD. Please take a look and see what you think of it.
J J, Peter was very close with the numbers for rotation. We will have to wait and see about the other performance numbers, but it is reasonable to expect that he is in the ballpark with the rest. As for price, even at double the price, is there another piston airplane that can come within 70% of its range and fuel economy?
@@sterlingtardie guys from raptor team can not even quantify the cooling capability and stall of fore-wing. Most of GA aircrafts have less than one third of Raptors issues during development stage. And Raptor have not even made its maiden flight. Minimal speed of Raptor is more than 90kts! Look on the performance of their Audi engine! 350 hp at 11gph it means that efficiency of this engine is more than 68%, which does not make any sense even for diesel engine! They made stupid calculation about area rule, which does not have any sense for this aircraft, they just try to attract our attention from the really crucial things like real engine efficiency. Raptor - is one big scam!
Really great over view. Unfortunately for me, I don't think I would fit. I'm 6'7". Head and leg room are always an issue...I like being tall for just everything in life except when it comes to fitting into some airplanes. But on the positive side, I can usually add fuel on a high wing pretty easy :)

Also no Evolution available now too, the closest is the Mako being made in Texas from the Lancair tooling.

Our friends, a family of 3, were killed in a IV P crash departing the San Diego area in 2010. No margin of safety in these.

The specs are too suspicious and they have a lot of issues right now. I will newer sit in the raptor

Look on the performance of their Audi engine! 350 hp at 11gph it means that efficiency of this engine is more than 68%, which does not make any sense even for diesel engine! They made stupid calculation about area rule, which does not have any sense for this aircraft, they just try to attract our attention from the really crucial things like real engine efficiency. Raptor - is one big scam!

Really great over view. Unfortunately for me, I don't think I would fit. I'm 6'7". Head and leg room are always an issue...I like being tall for just everything in life except when it comes to fitting into some airplanes. But on the positive side, I can usually add fuel on a high wing pretty easy :)
