I understand you have to be pretty savvy to not scammed yourself and to hide your identity. If there was a class on how to become an anti-scammer I would certainly take it.
Omg that was too funny! Well played 😂😂😂 There's currently another common scam going about on FB marketplace involving PS5's. The body of the text is something along the lines of "giving away my sons PS5. He sadly passed away and I cannot bare looking at it. Want to give it away to bring someone else joy" Then when you ask where they're from, they're miles from the local area of which it was advertised. They "know" someone who can ship it at a fee etc etc (you know the rest)
Those "passing away of a ....." been on OfferUp, Craig and Marketplace for a while now, but hopefully most are deterred by very bad grammar and hard to understand English, they also use certain keywords that people from US won't use. It involves both the selling and buying side and all I can suggest is whenever it looks to good to be true then just walk away and don't let greed give you a hope that you're getting a deal of a lifetime.
It's really important to read these ads for syntax and grammar as well. I knew this was not a US based ad when the seller used the phrase "aged care". Someone from the US or Canada would use a completely different phrase. It's not just "kindly", that you have to look out for.
A friend's fb page had that same message posted on it, more than once. Both of her parents are deceased & I knew this was off. I messaged her privately to warn her. I also commented about this being a scam multiple times under the post. Many ppl were trying to be helpful to her & asking about items. Thanks for your detective work!
Our local community group gets these all the time from "new" members. Thankfully the moderators seem to get on there fairly quickly and take them down. Scummy scammers. Ugh!

I love messing with scammer with the help of my students. Sometimes we call the scammers during down time in class and they listen to the calls on speakers. I let the scammer think they are about to get a payout when, on cue, the kids yell "Gotch you!" and we hang up on them. My kids love you videos. We watch them during lunch some times.
There are new ones now!! Now it says cousin, relatives, uncle, brother etc with the same "he got moved to age care" on it.. So I took my time and reported every single post that said that 🙂😏 Thanks so much for letting us know! Much appreciated 🙏
I have to say I'm new to your channel. I myself have been wanting to get into cybersecurity. I wanted to get into criminal justice but I saw too many injustices to be a part of that and now I see so many scammers as I myself have been scammed I was never foolish to send money because I'm too broke to do that but I did fall head over heels over somebody that wasn't even real. I really appreciate you making these videos They are very entertaining but they are extremely informative a lot of the other videos out there about people messing with scammers Don't always go into detail how the scam actually works and how they benefit from it but like I said your videos are extremely informative so I thank you very much for making us aware of these people ❤❤❤❤
The Facebook scam I tend to get the most where I am, is where they set up fake accounts of real people, and send out Friend requests to all the real person's friends, hoping to draw them into some get-rich-quick scheme. For this reason, nowadays when I get a Friend request from someone I'm already Friends with, I check up with the real person to see if the request was genuine. If - as is most often the case - it wasn't genuine, I proceed to tell the perpetrator exactly what I think of them, no holds barred. The annoying part is, Facebook had the cheek to reprimand me for telling thieving bar stewards the truth about themselves. I don't get it: I'M being reprimanded for doing exactly what Facebook SHOULD be doing!?!?
Yes,I've gotten a few of those. I knew the person was fake when they were telling me about some government program thing where they got 200 grand they don't have to pay back.
Thanks for doing this. You saved me from a couple of scams that I was going to fall victim to. One was for buying a classic car and the other was on the Facebook marketplace.
Thank you, Pleasant, for this video. It's outstanding & I'll be sharing it. But there should be a way social media platforms could "look" for posts like the one in the video & block them all. Shame on them for allowing scammers to flourish on social media.
I got scammed on Facebook Marketplace recently, and Facebook could not possibly have cared less. They are definitely a huge part of the problem, since they don't make any effort to shut scammers down (or even let you report it when you have definitely been scammed).

When my uncle shared the contact number with me, it turned out to be from Nigeria.

Omg this exact scam happened to my mom a few weeks ago. It was EXACTLY identical to this one. She tried to get a blender from a guy (same scam) and when she asked to pick it up he said “ohh I can’t I’m going to Walmart right now” and tried to get her to pay advance. I warned her it was probably a scammer and luckily she didn’t fall for it
I’ll add to this video; we were looking at an item that was priced realistically, but would have been about an hour’s drive. The seller provided an address, but then wanted a deposit because of so many inquiries. When they provided the link (Venmo) it wasn’t their name, and when asked, said it was their sister. We looked further into the accounts (many Venmo purchases are public) and the seller’s Facebook account was brand new, and the Venmo account had limited transactions. The address provided seemed to be an actual address We passed on the item and reported the Marketplace listing; similar adds with the same photos and information started showing up everywhere. Our guess is there are a lot of people who send a deposit: and had the accounts been set up a little better, we might have been fooled, too. That all said, cash is king in Facebook marketplace if you are going to buy in person-and a deposit should never be necessary.

Also, how do you expect Nigeria to eliminate all scams in their country? It’s like asking the US government to stop all shootings and all theft committed in the country

Awesome videos! My girlfriend is the biggest bargain shopper I know and I have seen these online countless times. I have no faith in humanity no more and I warn her about these things all the time now I can show her. This is the reason I trust nobody on marketplace, etc. etc. Great content been watching for a couple hours now. 😂😂
Ben, you might notsee this, but your videos have taught me a lot about fraud and scamming prevention. I have been able to help my mom avoid a couple different scams that I learned about from you. So thanks.
DUDE, that is next level. You staged a break-in, haha. That's awesome!
But damn, you are absolutely right, you'd think these people could put some effort into learning a real skill and starting a real business for real money.
The production value and acting is better than any recent Netflix series 👏👏🤣🤣 I loved it
And there wasn’t loud repetitive “music” that goes on and on and you can hardly hear what the people are saying.
Your creativity never stops, lol! I love it when you put together an act that confuses the heck out of scammers, like that other time you took that job as a real estate advertising manager and pretended to send money to “yourself”
This is why I’m too skeptical to buy ANYTHING from Facebook, especially since I’ve sadly been scammed myself
@@GabrielaLtc To make long story short, I tried to buy a charm bracelet, I waited almost 2 weeks and never got a response or anything. I wrote to the guy asking what’s the deal, he never gave me an answer to which I later responded I want a refund. He said he’d refund the money….. never happened. Shortly after his lil shop just vanished.
I’ve gotten several things from facebook marketplace, luckily I haven’t encountered any scammers yet, I hope I never do!
I’m sorry that you were scammed!
@@GabrielaLtc To make a long story short, I tried to buy this bracelet from this guy who made a little shop. I waited 2 weeks after purchase but no response so I finally reached and asked what was happening, he just kept making excuses so I demanded a refund. I’ve bought off marketplace, and buy/sell groups a bunch with no issues, but I won’t buy the item if I can’t pay in cash, or e transfer the money AFTER arriving and seeing the item
I'm sorry to hear this. Usually the scam involves money paid prior to verifying the item in person. Did you pay up front? Again, sorry to hear this.
Ben what you do surely slows some of this down and thank you for that. It would be a great hobby for retired people to get involved doing this. I understand you have to be pretty savvy to not scammed yourself and to hide your identity. If there was a class on how to become an anti-scammer I would certainly take it.
Omg that was too funny! Well played 😂😂😂
There's currently another common scam going about on FB marketplace involving PS5's.
Maybe that's the next one!
@@PleasantGreen Do you not realise what you are selling is a scam or just dont care?
Those "passing away of a ....." been on OfferUp, Craig and Marketplace for a while now, but hopefully most are deterred by very bad grammar and hard to understand English, they also use certain keywords that people from US won't use. It involves both the selling and buying side and all I can suggest is whenever it looks to good to be true then just walk away and don't let greed give you a hope that you're getting a deal of a lifetime.

I'm Nigerian and I have to say good job. Youre doing the Lord's work. I have to admit that the voice note you sent at the was perfect 😂
It's really important to read these ads for syntax and grammar as well. I knew this was not a US based ad when the seller used the phrase "aged care". Someone from the US or Canada would use a completely different phrase. It's not just "kindly", that you have to look out for.
This was my first red flag as well. However, I didn't listen to my gut😅
Best videos of catching scammers on RUclips. This guy always goes above and beyond
A friend's fb page had that same message posted on it, more than once. Both of her parents are deceased & I knew this was off. I messaged her
privately to warn her. I also commented about this being a scam multiple times under the post. Many ppl were trying to be helpful to her & asking about items. Thanks for your detective work!
Good that you did that - but chances are the scammers stole her FB account and she never saw your message.
@Sashazur yup! Always try to reach out in a different way. Preferably straight to their number.
Our local community group gets these all the time from "new" members. Thankfully the moderators seem to get on there fairly quickly and take them down. Scummy scammers. Ugh!
From an Admin on a FB group: If you are ever concerned about someone being a scammer; get them to send you a video saying your name and showing what you are buying.
This is trolling scammers on a next level.
😂😂😂😂😂 you produced a damn telenovela here, I was really invested 😅👌
I love messing with scammer with the help of my students. Sometimes we call the scammers during down time in class and they listen to the calls on speakers. I let the scammer think they are about to get a payout when, on cue, the kids yell "Gotch you!" and we hang up on them. My kids love you videos. We watch them during lunch some times.
There are new ones now!! Now it says cousin, relatives, uncle, brother etc with the same "he got moved to age care" on it.. So I took my time and reported every single post that said that 🙂😏 Thanks so much for letting us know! Much appreciated 🙏
This was for sure one of the funniest scammer videos I have seen. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing this, I have to tell people who buys things off Facebook. Scammers are evil
This is pure gold trolling! Thanks so much for helping catch these scammers and keeping us entertained in the process!
FB just seems to add so many more layers of complication to people's lives these days. O_o
Pretending you stole the woman's kitchen aid was so good

It’s so funny that after I watched this video I got a RUclips ad for “Send money to bank accounts in Nigeria in a few clicks” 😂
You are my dad now
Ben did a good job convincing a scammer that “Abby” got robbed because of him
It's really gotten bad on Facebook when it comes to these scams. They are doing job offer scams also all over Ireland where I am.
I got scammed on Facebook Marketplace recently, and Facebook could not possibly have cared less. They are definitely a huge part of the problem, since they don't make any effort to shut scammers down (or even let you report it when you have definitely been scammed).

Thanks Ben for all the work you do informing the public on what to watch out for.
That ending was phenomenal
“He wants my kitchen aid” for some reason, was absolutely hilarious.
Anytime you come across a scammer. Make sure you lead them on for as long as possible to waist there time so they make zero money and stay poor.
💯 i love telling these low life’s off!
My mother was just scammed out of $500 by this same scam. She came over to tell me she put a deposit down on an outdoor dog enclosure from Facebook and as soon as she showed me the ad I remembered this video.
That's messed up, I'm literally cleaning out my dad's old house as I watch this. Must be a good excuse for a scam because it's so common.
This video needs millions of views. You had me on the edge of my seat and then just burst out laughing when you stole the kitchen aid 😂😂😂😂

Thank you for your videos, Mike. Last week, I saved my uncle from a scam involving Apple gift cards. My uncle runs a car towing service and the scammer initially asked him to purchase something from a store before sharing their location for the car pick-up. When my uncle shared the contact number with me, it turned out to be from Nigeria.
The skit video with your sister at the end was hilarious 😂

The address provided seemed to be an actual address
We passed on the item and reported the Marketplace listing; similar adds with the same photos and information started showing up everywhere.
Our guess is there are a lot of people who send a deposit: and had the accounts been set up a little better, we might have been fooled, too.
That all said, cash is king in Facebook marketplace if you are going to buy in person-and a deposit should never be necessary.
