Sig ROMEO2 Hybrid Handgun Red Dot - 3 trick or no trick pony?

  • The Sig Sauer ROMEO2 is the first handgun red dot of its kind in a way, you can run it out of the box, with an open shroud, or with a closed lens shroud. Yup, a 3 in 1 optic that was designed and made in the United States to ride on the slide of a handgun. This red dot from Sig addresses prior issues with other optics and is striving for a place in the pro grade market. Does it deliver or is it a no trick pony?

Great review. Have mine on my P320 Scorpion with several thousand rounds thru it and very happy with it. Price seems to be the biggest deterrent for some but you just have to look. I paid about $570. When you factor in direct mount with no additional plate, priced about the same or less than an Aimpoint P2. Also have to say, I find the glass superior to my Holosun 509 or Trijicon RMR. Also like that it is screwed directly into slide, instead of other ‘true’ enclosed RDS that need to be screwed into the sides. Just seems more secure. Now would just love to see Sig come out with a Romeo 2 micro for the P365 line.

Great video Dave. Looks like a great optic across the board. Definitely expensive, but it's a premium optic and should be - especially if manufactured in the US - which is awesome. I just barely bought a Faxon slide for my Gen 1 M&P9 and am in the market for first pistol GDS.

Good video! I'm an m&p 2.0 guy and have been running RMR's on them. I'm going back and forth with what closed emitter to try...only one in stock is the Steiner MPS...heard a couple things I'm leary about. This optic is interesting. I want to try the EPS.

Also, besides there being some good polish out there to deal with scratches on polycarb lenses, that lens insert looks like it could be something SIG could offer as a replacement part at a decent price.

  • @JimmyJones206

My thoughts about the poly carbonate piece was if it did get marred or Scratched I wonder if it’s an easy replaceable affordable piece if so that would be a good idea for why I would get behind Poly carbonate versus glass

They've dipped down as low as $599 in recent sales for the lowest cost version. That's right in line with an Acro P2.

  • @spookinoff

I dig this optic but I don't see the point in buying a "convertible" style RDS. It's intended for duty use so you're probably just going to put into fully enclosed configuration and leave it that way. I guess if you're really on a budget you could use it as an open emitter for CC and closed for duty and just swap back and forth, but that's a pain.

there's a reason they put $40 in accessories in the box. They're scamming the hell out of you.
I wanna see someone do a review on this optic after carrying it for a month and the acrylic is so scratched you can't even look through it.
Or once the first drop of moisture gets in it, which is GOING to happen eventually.
this is a $200 reflex sight with $40 in accessories that they're selling for $650.

When I made this review, I was using it pretty extensively, Carry, classes, training. I agree I would love to see glass over polymer, but so far it has been holding up. A student in a recent red dot class I was teaching also was using one full-time for duty and has not had any issues with it.

@@GunsandTactics my point is, there's no upside or value to the very measurable downgrade in quality and performance, and it's the most expensive "mailbox" on the market. it makes no sense. this thing should be $300 at most.

I’ve found it on several sites @ sub $600. It’s still expensive, but for me personally, I’m probably going to grab one. I hate adapter plates, and when you consider the cost of a quality AP with a different closed emitter sight, it’s not that much more expensive. To have the sight mounted directly to my slide, I’d say it’s worth the higher cost. (Plus, I’m a Sig fanboy.😅)

    Yeah, definitely not for me!
If they get any bigger, you'll need to get lightening cuts just to offset the added weight. In 10 years, you'll probably need a monopod to hold it up!
But seriously, I just find it's an ugly reddot that doesn't flow with the lines of any gun.
I buy a good looking truck because it makes me happy. Any truck would get me from point A to point B, but I got the one I wanted because it looks nice and has the features I want.
This is like buying an ugly Volvo. I'll never understand people willing to drive around something awful looking just to have a few more safety features. I'm happy that they are happy with them, but i still don't understand it.

This is terrible and everything it says it does is just thr opposite. It holds moisture, and fogs going in and out of AC/Humidity. It isn't sealed and defeats the purpose of closed immmiter. Most may not see if in their climate. The dot and operation itself IMO is irrelevant if it doesn't do what it says it does. I did not like it at all and had two of them.
