If guitar solos had a Nobel nomination... there is no doubt that they would already have
I remember back in 2010, there was a massive snowstorm that hit us in Scotland that was christened "the beast from the east". I was on the bus to go see my gf at the time and we were winding through quiet country roads at night while an unrelenting blizzard was happening. Naturally, as all good men should do during a night blizzard, i put on Winter Madness. Never experienced something so damn epic in my life since. It was one of those rare moments in life when the stars align just for you.

I've heard hundreds of bands, but I have not yet found a guitar solo more epic than this song. Some Japanese bands come close, but do not surpass this solo.
Can you list some of those bands? I'm into that classical Japanese sound like When Time Fades Away if they're similar. They don't have to be orchestral, I was leaning more towards the musical style.

Volcano, X-Japan, Gargoyle, Galneryus.
Other "more modern ones": Takamiy, Janne da Arc, Sky Wings, Light Bringer, Area51, DELUHI, Matenrou Opera, Metis Gretel, Versailles, Far East Dizain...
But they are all bands that vary a lot, and none of them are similar to Wintersun.
With the more oriental folk style, When Time Fades Away style, you can try "Ningen Isu" and "Onmyouza", or lighter ones like "Kagrra", "D" and "yagakki band"
This is no doubt one of the best solos of all time, but I still think that Tornado Of Souls has the best solo over
In terms of epicness i would say painkiller solo by priest is really close one
Into the Mouth of Hell We March or Like Like to Flies by Trivium both have solos combating this one imo
The riff before the solo is top 10 best metal riffs of all time IMB… probably top 5
What trully blows my mind is that right after one of the most complex, epic and hard guitar solo, the song naturally transition into an amazing kick-ass riff at 6:37. It's a prime exemple of how good Jari was ( and still is) at structure and composition.

The wintersun band itself, has taken a step in the life of music and consciousness. These works are beautiful, I have been following their work since I was a child. These music are usually soothing, hypnotic, and empowering to solve problems. All respect from Hungary!

This intro...When I heard it first time live in Gimle, Denmark. Damn I was so excited I couldnt believe it was real (Wintersun fan since 2004 and played those songs 50 billion times)

I've owned the album since about 2010 but when I was going through a really dark time figuring myself out, I got to really appreciate and analyse the musical brilliance behind Winter Madness. It's my favourite track on the album now and hearing it even clearer with 2.0 is amazing. I came out the other side and even got a tattoo to commemorate the occasion.

Love the raw Wintersun sound more than anything, too much orchestral stuff drowns out everything else in my opinion, this is why I think the debut album is the best.
I agree with you, but unfortunately I doubt they'll ever return to this style.

@@NoelVillanuevaMadrid Sons of Winter and Stars and Time were both in this style, so are The Way Of The Fire and the other new song Storm with all the fast scaleruns that was first played a year ago or something. They even said that the the production and style of the songs of The Forest Seasons got an album of their own, because they wouldn't fit in with the "main" Wintersun style of the debut, Time I and Time II.
A better saying would be that they never left this style, but released a separate album for the Forest Seasons in another style.
@@Melodeath00 I find it difficult to agree with you, there is very little to no orchestral keyboard kind of stuff on this album, just check this song out as an example, there's just basic background stuff, the drums guitar and bass are the front instruments overall

@@nox4189 true. But I met him after a show and talked with him about those old songs and said he also wouldnt remaster them for the reason that he didnt write them. Oliver did. Jari did write sadness and hate, however.

He was asked this during the last crowdfunding, and said that he doesn't have the individual tracks for the first album, and due to some reason, possibly having something to do with copyright, he is not able to get them either, so it is unlikely they'll ever be released to the public.
