Breaks my heat that a millionaire basketball coach is exhausted!!! It’s a terrible life and so unfair and I’m just so happy he’s able to escape the danger of coaching!!!! Gods speed millionaire!!!!!
It’s about sports not being about sports anymore .. the soul of competition is being stripped away and it is designed for rich to get richer and young kids to believe money is more important than pride and purity
The solution to the NIL/Collective/Portal problem is so simple that there must be a reason The NCAA has resolved it. I firmly believe they’ve decided to let the house burn itself down if they can’t own it outright. This coach and many others are great teachers of the game.
The coaches who rage quit are the ones who just happened to get rich from college sports, yet just don't understand why the players who actually create the wealth want a piece of that pie. The mental disconnect is impressive.
Haven’t been into college sports for a long time so this question may be off base. So, the players don’t sign contracts with terms for service like the pros? I was just thinking about the quarterback at Las Vegas that left midsession because a verbal agreement was not met.
@tiger_spawn4223 Entitled, soft, Gen-Zeros. Don't worry. Wait until collective bargaining is introduced. Pay scales, limited number of times you can enter the portal, requirements to play bowl games, and more! You've entered the deep end of the pool. Good luck.
It’s sort of a double edged sword. For years programs and media had made billions off of college athletes. And at times where the athlete could barely buy something to eat beyond the cafeteria was a reality. So now they are taking advantage of helping themselves and their families, especially if they do make it beyond their college years professionally, can you blame them?!?!
No one is saying the athletes don’t deserve compensation (although the idea that good college athletes were genuinely scraping by is a little disingenuous), but most of the money in NIL is from alumni funds and donations, not the cash flow being generated by the players, and there’s no regulation whatsoever, meaning it’s just a version of the NFL with no salary cap and everyone’s in free agency indefinitely. There’s absolutely a version of his where players that are generating value and cash flow for the school are paid based off that value (or paid by corporations privately who want to use their name, image, and, likeness for advertising and such) and you can’t just willy nilly offer kids as much money as you want to and spend as much as you want to build a good roster.
@@brianpunter8471 Right! I think there should be some sort of cap. But how is that going to work with P4 v G5 schools. Then you then have to consider a high rated athlete v a low rated and so on. Figuring this out seems like not an easy fix. But maybe a cap on certain kind if athletes might work?!?!
@@choide19 Believe me, there was a time when that was happening. Calling parents to see if they can send you something that might hold you for a week. I know…. I use to be one of those athletes back in those days. I’ve seen it…. But it’s amazing how this whole NIL deal has college sports in a frenzy.
Portal&,NIL HAVE DESTROYED college sports. NCAA has made a mistake. Let the high school go to the "G" LEAGUE of the of the NBA and the NFL. College athletes should decide a degree or money-making.
Most of these players cutting deals will not make it to the next level and will probably will be broke with no degree by the time they are in their late thirties.
The NIL deals and play for pay has ruined college sports. Regardless of your position on the topic (because it all comes down to money) everyone knows that but the true essence of good coaching and building teams from the ground up is now forgotten. You buy players in the open market and parade these kids around like trophies themselves and it almost like a meat market or an auction where these kids sell their souls for money because most realize they won’t make it to the NFL. There needs to be a study on those who transfer from one school to another because I would venture to say that in 5 years those who transfer will have a graduation rate of maybe 30% - 40%. They will make some money with NIL but will never see the NFL. Of the 40% - 50% who do graduate only about 3% of those will play in the NFL. Those are all estimates but I will retain this post because in 5 years, I want to see how close I was to this prediction or how far off I was.
He’s right. The player development is gone now. You watch, the NBA and NFL will become watered down due to kids staying in college longer for NIL$ and may eventually just flip off the pros because they don’t need to progress any further. It’s not sustainable though. The worm will turn or other college sports in the red will go away , campus building construction will be put on hold, student enrollment growth will flatten , etc. Waiting on the market correction to ease the chaos.
I see can why he stepped down. Developing players is now unfortunately on the back burner with the portal. There’s no more loyalty and paying your dues. It’s all about making money. I think NIL has made it better for student athletes, but has made it worse for programs. Look at the guy who got a 6 million + deal to play at byu. He only went there for the money and he probably is a one and done. Hard to develop players for the long haul when they are offered millions of dollars to play elsewhere.
That's why the NBA's ratings are in the toilet. Player development in college doesn't happen. These guys will love playing in Croatia and Turkey when they're done. Enjoy.
@BDkingshort Nobody's watching this crap. Jack a three, jack a three, jack a three. Fun! So entertaining. Never seen that play before! And the Knicks are actually good, and the ratings still suck! The All-Star game sucks. What's good about it? LeBron, KD, and Steph are on their last legs, too. Unwatchable.

It's a shame what these kids and collegiate sports are really doing to themselves. Educations are important. Money is not as important.

I've decided to step down before I get fired.!
The players have to be on board. Most guys aren't going to play NBA. Shows the didn't want to win or get an education just make money
It will motivate college programs to offer a more enticing product in terms of player/person development if they have less money to offer.
Capitalism at its best
Basketball will still move fwd.

This era of college sports is a younger man's game now. Gotta have the energy, drive and passion to do this anymore.
