Your advice about heavy items was incredibly huge for me, easily the biggest thing that’s affected my business. I remember you talking about buying & reselling receivers, and items like that, saying how shipping was only ever $20-30 at most. Often it’s closer to $15. Since then it’s become one of the main things I buy and sell, I regularly find CD players cassette players, boomboxes, subwoofers for a dollar to five dollars each that I sell for 100 to multiple hundreds, and often I find them at sales on later days, people Pass them out of fear of packaging/testing.
Glad to hear you did well. Sales were dismal on my end. I had a Black Friday 4 day weekend sale and only had 4 sales. I have 1400 listings but I am in the record business so maybe people don’t have money for vinyl records right now.
30:54 RE: Cross Listing. In addition to eBay, I have cross listed items on Poshmark, Mercari, Etsy & Depop. After several years of trial and error, I am beginning to have a sense of which items to cross list on which platforms. Etsy is good for $30 & up vintage decor items, especially items that are saturated on eBay. Depop is good for items that appeal to the demographic of Depop users, which has little overlap with eBay users. I understand that Poshmark, because of its shipping policy, is a good platform for hard goods selling for $20 & up that weigh between 2 & 5 lbs. I have also heard that Mercari is a strong platform for plush stuffed animals.
I bought some large presentation cardboard setups from Hobby Lobby on clearnace for $1 each and have been using them to make cardboard boxes for unique items, like big posters that require a long and thin box. Cheaper than buying a large poster tube, but of course it takes some time.
Really good black Friday for me. Year two of selling on eBay so is my second holiday season and I shipped out 26 packages for a total of $1100 after taxes and fees. Love your channel thanks.
The only problem with vintage underwear that is new in a sealed package is that the elastic in the waistband can be brittle/shot from age and no longer stretch. Same can happen with socks, pantyhose, tights, knee highs etc., anything with elastic (lyrca/spandex itself is usually totally fine, but elastic can break down with age.) If you can test stretch the waistband in the package without actually opening it, it is a good idea to do so.
Going back to the box thing. I’ve found that if you’re not super accurate with the size & weight you get hammered in additional shipping costs. I try to pre-pack the weird items that may need a special box or require one to be hand folded by myself including materials needed to prevent damage inside during transit. Things I notice: If you overcompensate by saying dimensions are larger or something weighs more and you reduce those numbers AFTER it sells you save cents on the dollar. On the other hand, if I’m off by a few oz or inches on a package I get hammered in costs. I’m talking dollars added to the shipping costs but when it benefits me I save cents. Sucks and forces me to think about these things when buying…I buy it all btw so it’s not stopping me but slowing me slightly 😂
One-off large items that a seller isn't familiar with should ALWAYS be pre-boxed to get weight and measurements. The consequences of getting the measurements wrong when the box is over a cubic foot can be SEVERE.
Agree. I live in a place without easy access to a store that sells large shipping boxes. I write the drafts on large or unusually shaped items, and wait until I find the box at my town's recycling center to list.
@@fibersflowersandfinds I’ll usually get a large moving box from Walmart. Like $2 and cut to fit my items if I don’t have an amazon sitting around from a random order. Sold out. Mistake not stocking up , but I managed.
Excellent sales Justin! Hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope you will be able to help with my conundrum. I have several large heavy items that I haven't listed because of my fear of burning myself in shipping. They are high $ and take up a lot of space. I saw another RUclips video where they went into their computer after the item had sold and checked which shipping service was cheaper. I didn't know it was possible to change carriers. I have attempted to check shipping with each carrier independently by going to the furthest place from me, but some are cheaper if closer and more further and vice versa with others.
Based on weight only. I use calculated shipping and don't add package dimensions until I ship. Only if a really BIG size does it make a difference (like over 12 inches).
I cross list on Poshmark but depending on the price I list the item since their fees are too high. I also add more to the price on Poshmark due to fees. I see Poshmark as a supplement to selling.
I don't add dimensions and weight to the listing as I do not offer calculated shipping. I do flat or free shipping on everything, so it is unnecessary.
Why frames only on sunglasses? Are you just covering yourself in case ebay mistakes for prescription? I'm sure byers would expect the lenses in sunglasses, correct? Thanks
I’m mostly a amazon seller. Average “1-1.5k a day “eBay has been kinda horrible 2700 month but yet Etsy with cross listing only a fraction of what I have on eBay is doing 3900 month
Also question about flip wise: eBay seems to have a nice amount of information within their site regarding my sales and the breakdown from gross to net sales Etc Plus breakdowns of individual sales with charts, etc. I know you have a good product, but would like elaboration on what more I would receive if I subscribed and paid for flip wise. Plus, How likely and if so how soon would flip wise start having the ability to assist in Cross listing to other sites? Likewise, I don't do much of this but wouldn't mind having the ability in the future. Thank you so very much!
Justin, I LOVE your channel, But, when someone is on the phone, it is almost impossible to understand what they are saying. Could you add a transcript?
Justin usually restates their questions for clarity but u can also put the ‘cc’ (closed captions) on. I love this channel but Justin just started doing the nodding bobble head when they are asking questions, even tho they can’t see him, which is extremely distracting, so I can’t look at him at that time 🤭🤓.
I know I will get boos from the rest of the comments, but I take issue with your complaint about a church not pricing their items and you feeling self conscious about it. If it was a garage sale, OK I get it, but it's a church and they are probably looking to do something with the money raised (like feed folks). If you don't like how they go about what sounds like a rummage sale, don't go.
Hey Justin, love the channel, its totally changed my reseller life. Question - At the end of year I like to clear out old inventory and bad buys to donate them. How do you recognize these losses in Flipwise, and do you consider them a loss on your taxes?
Once you end the listings on eBay, you can mark them as donated in Flipwise: help.flipwise.app/article/43-can-i-mark-a-product-in-my-inventory-as-donated this keeps track of it for tax purposes so you can write the cost off.
Absolutely bombed on Black Friday!!! I have no clue what went wrong. Maybe 15% wasn't enough! I'm just getting back into reselling so have no clue. And as for shipping boxes, I had a long 21" x 9" framed crossstitch which eventually sold for around $70 incl shipping. I waited and waited but finally decided I would find a box when it sold. I went into a Postal & More type store on a whim and found the exact box. Answer to prayer for sure.

I have attempted to check shipping with each carrier independently by going to the furthest place from me, but some are cheaper if closer and more further and vice versa with others.
How does ebay calculate a delivery charge to the buyer if you don't have the size of the box when you list it ?
I don't use calculated shipping.
Based on weight only. I use calculated shipping and don't add package dimensions until I ship. Only if a really BIG size does it make a difference (like over 12 inches).
It’s pretty easy to figure out what size box you’ll need to use:
I cross list on Poshmark but depending on the price I list the item since their fees are too high. I also add more to the price on Poshmark due to fees. I see Poshmark as a supplement to selling.
If you don't box/bag what you're posting, how do you know dimensions and weight to add to the listing?
I add 2oz for my 2oz larger bags and a pound for boxes around 12” square and 7oz for shoe box. It works out.
I don't add dimensions and weight to the listing as I do not offer calculated shipping. I do flat or free shipping on everything, so it is unnecessary.
I had a couple of different sales going on from early Thanksgiving morning through late Monday night. I only sold 7 items. 😢
I agree with cross listing. I cut all except Mercari. It’s hard to drop when they take no fees.
Does Flipwise also include Amazon as a marketplace? Thanks
It does not integrate with Amazon, but you can record sales manually for any marketplace.
What do you sell on ebay that youre selling upwards of 50k a month?
@ eBay? 2700 is like 30k a year
@@jamespace2567 Sorry.... I meant Amazon
Nice vid Justin!!
You also get more features for effiencies.
P.S.: wonder how it compares to list perfectly or vendoo and other services such as those
Pro tip if you drive behind a five below you’ll find unlimited free boxes already broken down for you! Lol
Anyone else want to hear about all of the underwear Justin sold last weekend?
maybe in Justin Resells: After Dark
I can see the market getting saturated with 100% cotton underwear. There will be underwear everywhere and you’ll never be able to find them.
Below average sales over this weekend actually! Go figure. Glad yours were great though Justin
Do ebay sellers have to report to fincen boi?
Should've kept the beats!!!
I had ONE sale
I know I will get boos from the rest of the comments, but I take issue with your complaint about a church not pricing their items and you feeling self conscious about it. If it was a garage sale, OK I get it, but it's a church and they are probably looking to do something with the money raised (like feed folks). If you don't like how they go about what sounds like a rummage sale, don't go.
Vintage underwear - who would have thought??
Hey Justin, love the channel, its totally changed my reseller life. Question - At the end of year I like to clear out old inventory and bad buys to donate them. How do you recognize these losses in Flipwise, and do you consider them a loss on your taxes?
Once you end the listings on eBay, you can mark them as donated in Flipwise: help.flipwise.app/article/43-can-i-mark-a-product-in-my-inventory-as-donated this keeps track of it for tax purposes so you can write the cost off.
Utah jazz da best
Underwear- unbelievable!!!! Good for you!!
Underwear. Who knew, right?
Absolutely bombed on Black Friday!!! I have no clue what went wrong. Maybe 15% wasn't enough! I'm just getting back into reselling so have no clue.
And as for shipping boxes, I had a long 21" x 9" framed crossstitch which eventually sold for around $70 incl shipping. I waited and waited but finally decided I would find a box when it sold. I went into a Postal & More type store on a whim and found the exact box. Answer to prayer for sure.
Bad post holiday sales for me. Really bad compared to last year
