A LOT of other games later after year 1 of PS2 went with more simple memory card, un-animated icons and the file sizes were always more like 50 to 100kbs.

What makes this even funnier is the fact that Guy Cihi (or Troy Baker in the HD Collection) is actually speaking Japanese in the scene, not an actual native Japanese voice actor.
Guy Cihi's ex-wife was a Japanese actress and he lived in Japan for quite a long time for business, so he's legitimately fluent. It's less that he sounds "off" and more that it just sounds like Guy Cihi doing voice-acting, period: he delivers lines awkwardly regardless of the language he speaks.
I dunno about anyone else, but James suddenly speaking in Japanese and not English is probably the single most disturbing and cool thing about this scene. It just adds a lot of depth to the madness. This is because he talks to the dog like an old friend, and he just knows the dog would understand Japanese, and not English. By the way, I don't know about anyone else but I had a memory of slowly James screaming "Aaaaaaaaahhhhhgggghhh" as he bends down, and then the dog licking him calms James down. It will only be available after you have either unlocked the three "standard" endings (Leave, In Water, Maria), or after getting the Rebirth ending. Dog ending fits perfectly in the story and greatly supports theory that the Red God is a guardian angel that controls entire town's microuniverse as well as how it takes shape of each individual's inner self, both superego and id. Both Pyramid Head and Valtiel appear to be protagonists' guardian angels, they have the ability to shapeshift surroundings around them and to control other monsters. When James accepts his former deeds, the Red God appears to be his friend and even act somewhat apologetic while taking a form of a pet. Once his soul is freed from the repressed guilt, what he's seen to be monsters are now perceived to be his allies.

This is easily one of the best alternate endings I've ever seen in a video game. We went from the most fucked up shit we've witnessed in a small town, to the entire events being set up by a cute doggo. The credits with the YTPMV-esque dog song, the growling at Eddie(makes sense in context), the random flashes to the cast with a shirtless, muscular James, and at the end with Maria moaning whilst in lingerie felt very surreal yet satisfying and hilarious.
Just to give an idea on this, to even get the chance to see this ending you either have to get all 3 normal endings, or get the rebirth ending (which is hard to get and requires you to get one of the normal endings anyway). Then you have to get a key from a doghouse that normally gives nothing, go through most of the game, then use the key on a door that is normally locked (and gives the same locked message) and you get this. Imagine someone who played this game when it came out, did several playthroughs in an attempt to find all the secrets, then they get this.
If I didn’t have to work today, I’d be for sure live streaming these wild times at 2pm PDT As a fully adulted adult I’m personally looking forward to the impending fear-boner a 4K HD Maria will inevitably cause

Thats the thing. there is no ending. it was unfinished. Ok the only thing that resembles an ending is that Quiet leaves us. but that alone leaves a wide open story to waste as it was never properly explained.

The scariest part is that you can't stay mad at a dog for very long, no matter what it does.
A dog once poisoned my water supply, burned my crops and delivered a plague unto my house. But after a couple minutes, I forgave him.

The Dog Key is found in a doghouse directly West of Jack's Inn after you leave Rosewater Park. It will only be available after you have either unlocked the three "standard" endings (Leave, In Water, Maria), or after getting the Rebirth ending. It is used to unlock the Observation Room in the Lake View Hotel for the Dog Ending.
We didn't get those visuals in remake 😭

The opposite actually.
Dog ending fits perfectly in the story and greatly supports theory that the Red God is a guardian angel that controls entire town's microuniverse as well as how it takes shape of each individual's inner self, both superego and id.
Both Pyramid Head and Valtiel appear to be protagonists' guardian angels, they have the ability to shapeshift surroundings around them and to control other monsters.
When James accepts his former deeds, the Red God appears to be his friend and even act somewhat apologetic while taking a form of a pet. Once his soul is freed from the repressed guilt, what he's seen to be monsters are now perceived to be his allies.

This is easily one of the best alternate endings I've ever seen in a video game. We went from the most fucked up shit we've witnessed in a small town, to the entire events being set up by a cute doggo. The credits with the YTPMV-esque dog song, the growling at Eddie(makes sense in context), the random flashes to the cast with a shirtless, muscular James, and at the end with Maria moaning whilst in lingerie felt very surreal yet satisfying and hilarious.
I just realized the stare the dog does in the credits is used in the remake too

When you realize Silent Hill 2 had had a dank meme 15 years before they became a thing
Just to give an idea on this, to even get the chance to see this ending you either have to get all 3 normal endings, or get the rebirth ending (which is hard to get and requires you to get one of the normal endings anyway). Then you have to get a key from a doghouse that normally gives nothing, go through most of the game, then use the key on a door that is normally locked (and gives the same locked message) and you get this.
Imagine someone who played this game when it came out, did several playthroughs in an attempt to find all the secrets, then they get this.
